Description:
Tunin.FM iCarRadio is the world’s first and only mobile internet radio receiver for the iPhone which has been specially designed to be used while on the move, reaching a wide audience travelling by car, bus, bike or train. Thanks to Tunin.FM iCarRadio you can now listen to digital stereo audio of excellent quality, anytime and anywhere. Sophisticated compression technology enables this service even at very low bandwidths. Until now, the only way to listen to stable, high-quality radio was by means of wireless internet via Wi-Fi and occasionally 3G/UMTS, limiting reception to the home or the workplace, for example. Outdoor when the 3G signal is not strong, the iPhone automatically switches to GPRS/EDGE networks. The capacitiy of such networks is limited and it is shared with other people in the same area. This causes the iPhone to stop the radio playback frequently. iCarRadio makes it better! Tunin.FM iCarRadio now comes with improved support for diverse cellular networks. As a key feature, the application is designed for use on low capacity networks outdoor, in traffic or at home/work. Sound quality remains very good and in full stereo even in the car, bus, train or bike. This makes iCarRadio your ideal travel companion. Download the Lite application now for FREE, or get the complete version with the possibility to submit a radio station, make a favorite list and check your recently played. If you want more information about this version, check the Tunin.FM Support Web Site or search for iCarRadio in the App Store. The application also works on the iPod Touch if you have a Wi-Fi connection. If you want to know how to get Wi-Fi in the car, checkout these two sites: www.joikuspot.com and www.wmwifirouter.com Let us know what you think and help us to further improve the application. Omg this is good By: Gibman - 07-Feb-2009 Version: 1.2 It kept skipping untill I rebooted my iPhone know it's great. I live in a village with only a GPRS signal which is crap however while out with the dog walking it never skipped or had to buffer once. The quality was great and so many stations to choose from. It would be really good if an update could allow for you to save your fav stations to save searching. Well done thou I think I will use this app a lot
Awesome By: Parker Beach - Mar 31, 2009 Version: 1.3 It works very well when driving on my way to and from school. It does have it's issues such as crashing every now and then but it is rare. It is not all that great if you are in an area where you have to log on to wifi with a password through safari, usually college campus'. Works very well when on public roads, and since I live I a small town in the middle of Nowhereville, Georgia I have had the chance to see the true potential which is that it even works well when on backroads where normal radio stations have trouble coming through clearly.
I do have some suggestions for the developer most of which have already been addressed with the full version of this app so my main suggestion/potential idea is would it be possible to have it run in the background on the phone so that you can continue to listen to music and be able to text message others.
The one main issue with the app for me atleast is that people cannot get in touch with me while running the app because it never shuts the app down for phone calls instead it sends people straight to voicemail.
Overall great product and look forward to purchasing the full version when I get a job and can afford it.
Aussie buyers don't bother with this By: NokiaMATE - 21-Nov-2009 Version: 1.5 If your hoping to get many OZ FM Stations through an internet app u can quit looking. Unlike the US or portable recievers, app designers wishing to include Aussie stations need to pay a licensing fee to each & every station before it can be included, and even if the station producers agree, government permits will also be required. So with that much red tape and hurdles to jump through you tell me who is willing bet on it. Are you willing to pay $99 for such an app, when you can obtain a mini radio reciever for a nominal fee? Ofcourse not! Your probly asking "what's the difference with mobile phones, they have FM stations in it as well?" Well like i said, they actually use a reciever in the phone rather than reproducing it through the internet, that's the diffrence and no licensing fees are required for recievers. I suggest sticking with US stations, they sound heaps better than Aussie one's anyway. Our stations are friggin boring and too politically correct no one dares step outta line.

Best Radio App...and it's free By: chrischap0 - 04-Mar-2009 Version: 1.3 I have tried and paid for a few apps as well as buying a digital radio to connect to my iPhone. All where pretty rubbish when signal drops below 3G which my place of work tends to be. This works brilliant even without edge. Would be 5 star if not for two things. 1 you can't open other apps or move away from the app without it closing down. 2 it sent all my calls straight to answer phone when in use. :( other than that it's top draw.
Works well in London By: Briza Pie - 20-Feb-2009 Version: 1.3 Not prone to reviewing I thought I should with this...finally I can get BBC 6 Music on my iPhone! I'll also be able to get the 5 Live commentary too, what an absolute bonus! great app, works really well in and around London where the various masts are a mix of Edge and 3G with only occasional buffering. Only thing keeping it off 5 stars is the lack of favourites to save me searching for the stations I use most. It also has the other UK digital stations who provide their own iPhone apps, so you can combine all the streams into one app. Nice.
More BBC Stations..Please By: Misteregg - 30-Jan-2009 Version: 1.2 This really is a great app.
Fantastic interface. Streams stations even in 2g areas.
I traveled for one hour in 2g, 3g and edge coverage and never lost the ( low rate) stream once.
Only complaint is the choice of stations. There are apps that stream BBC National networks. I notice with the recent update this is now refered to as Tunin.fm lite, so a paid app on the way. Will be worth paying for if more stations. Well done dev. team.
Excellent interface. Missing an important feature! By: bobolito - Jan 31, 2009 Version: 1.2 The way you navigate this app is how all radio apps should be: Genre and keyword searches are possible. Makes it finding any station a breeze. It appears this app does AAC-HE (also known as AACplus) which is fantastic! A few things are wrong with this app: when you tune to a station you have the stream choice of 29Kbps and 128Kbps. These are just fake speed numbers, not something the software detects from the stream. For instance, Sky.FM doesn't stream at those speeds, yet you have those two speed choices. I know for a fact Sky doesn't have 128kbps streams. They should've instead re-label those buttons to say High or Low bitrate instead of placing misleading information. Another thing this app is missing is the ability to type your own custom stream URLs or save a station to a favorites list. But then again, for a first release, I think this is great. You got the hard work done already, let's now implement the easy features.
Great app By: jameswe333 - 13-Jul-2009 Version: 1.3 This is a great app and really fills a hole in iPhone features. I've used it walking to work in busy areas of London and the stream is uninterrupted. It also seems to have a useful delay function to cope with temporary variations. i found this out when I went on the tube. The stream continued long after I was underground and out of signal range of any type. Improvements would be a favourite stations function and slightly better sound quality, it's sometimes a bit tinny.
Great App By: Jezza-H188300 - 19-Apr-2009 Version: 1.3 This app is brilliant. I downloaded this free version first to see if it works well and now i'm going to get the proper/paid for version. I don't know how this works but it does. i live in the middle of nowhere and don't even get EDGE reception but this app streams the stations perfectly even with 1 or 2 bars of GPRS signal. The favourites and other things requested in other reviews are available on the paid for version so i'm definitely upgrading.
Bloooody amazing By: Manga Man - 10-Apr-2009 Version: 1.3 I was searching for a million years for a radio 1 app but couldn't find 1.
I tried this not knowing anything about it and found not only that this was the only app for radio 1,it was also the best and only proper radio app out there.
GET IT NOW !!!!!!!!!
