Description:
BEACON Voted best navigational app of 2008 by my mom! Beacon will point you back to wherever you drop a beacon. Made after losing my car in a parking lot for the 800th time. When you park, load up Beacon and hit the giant "DROP BEACON" button. Then, when you want to find your car again, just load Beacon again and follow the arrow straight to your car. Couldn't be any easier! Beacon will automatically adjust to your direction of travel, so the arrow will always point exactly where you need to go. BUT---it will only do so once the GPS accuracy is good. This may take a few minutes! Wait until the accuracy is less than 50 metres. Please note that I have absolutely no control over the accuracy of the GPS receiver. That is handled 100% by the phone itself. If you find the accuracy is poor, leave it be for a minute and it'll get better and better. If you find it's too inaccurate, get a bigger car. It's a cell phone, with like eight antennas! Soon you'll be able to switch between metric and American units. For now, just use the fact that 1 metre = 1 yard (3 feet). What makes Beacon different from other find-my-car apps: • Beacon is free • No need to wait for Google Maps to load, or an animated boot sequence. Designed to be useful when it's -50 out (you're adorable, Canada) • Flashy graphics make you look cool • Valid medical cure for acne(*) (*) Not a valid medical cure for acne

Hilarious By: Moesother - 10-Nov-2008 Version: 1.0 Great description. I'm sure the app is a joke. How would your iphone know which way you are facing? Great for a laugh!Update: I've played with the app some more. It actually works, as long as you know which way north is. Position your iphone so the top (earpiece) is pointing north. Then the arrow will be pointing correctly in the direction of the beacon. Of course, if you are good enough with directions to know which way north is, and you are outside where you can get a valid GPS signal, you probably won't need help finding your car. Still it's a fun app and the price is right. Good work!
Intelligent use of iPhone technology By: Sternhammer - 08-Jan-2009 Version: 3.1 Beacon makes cunning use of iPhone technology. It uses GPS to mark your location and but doesn’t require a data connection and isn’t hampered by map downloading times. Direction is calculated after you’ve moved a short distance—a clever way of getting around the iPhones lack of an electronic compass. Of course accuracy and speed is dependent on the quality of your GPS reception in a given area, just like every other GPS device in the world. Some things could be improved: 1. the interface could give better visual indication of GPS signal strength/accuracy, perhaps a circle overlaid on the radar that gets smaller and greener as the signal improves and larger and more faint as it deteriorates 2. distance could also be given at the centre of the radar display, although that’s less compelling 3. the “Place Beacon” button gives no clue as to when it was last done. A simple date and time stamp would help. 4. the “Place Beacon” button is also too easy to accidentally activate. Perhaps it would be better if it required the user to press and hold for a few seconds, confirming with vibration and audio cues. Alternatively the familiar iPhone slide switch would work well. These points aside, Beacon is a good idea well executed. If you understand its limitations you have little cause for complaint.
Nice little app! By: Beil - 29-Nov-2008 Version: 2.1 Beacon is great and does exactly what it says it will do, in style. Funny description too. It could use some in-app instructions for those unable to figure it out, but that's hardly a reason to knock this app. Nice work Seth!
Cool app! By: Stratten - 23-Nov-2008 Version: 2.0 Simply hilarious. Works for me

So simple but so useful By: Bbmykal - Jan 9, 2009 Version: 3.1 It's great, and does what it says. I can figure out I'm on a street, just give me a direction to go. Perfect.
Love it By: dannyatschool - Jan 7, 2009 Version: 3.1 To be honest I have never gotten it to work right I just keep the app so I can see what the developer says in the updates. They are hilarious. The more updates the better IMHO.
WOW!! By: Moosegerm - Dec 28, 2008 Version: 3.0 I know that this app has been getting a lot of critisism, but if you actually read the instructions and use it for what it was built for, the result is amazing. Plus, this guy has a great sense of humor.GREAT APP!!
Voted best by my mom too!!!! By: flipsheet - Nov 7, 2008 Version: 1.0 One of the greatest apps, sell it for 10 bucks. ;]
Very usefull By: surfer68 - 05-Jul-2009 Version: 3.1 Does exactly what it says. Obviously only any good for iphone users due to need for GPS hardware. Easy clear interface. Only suggestion would be to include a lock so you don't accidently drop another beacon and overwrite the one you need.
