Description:
Now serving over 1,000,000 users! Why pay for Wi-Fi when there might be a free Wi-Fi spot near you? The Free Wi-Fi locator helps you find free Wi-Fi hotspots where ever you are. With a simple tap of the icon you can see locations near you. Click on a location and receive the exact driving directions. It's as easy as that. Just tap, get online and save! NOTE: We've done our best to find every free Wi-Fi location in the United States (we've got over 14,000 Wi-Fi locations and counting...) but we're certain that we've missed some. So if you'd like to help make this an even better app, please click on the information button on the main page and send us an email with the location(s) you know of that we missed. We'll do our best to quickly verify and add them to our database. NOTE: This application is valid for US users only. We will be adding locations for other countries in future versions. As well, we've got some cool features that we will be adding shortly. From the developers that created the first application that pays you back. KidsEatFree and the Museum Locator.

Reviews:
Sad Canadian By: 382jkj444332 - 24-Feb-2009 Version: 1.0 If Canadians could READ before talking, they would have seen where the developers mentioned this app was for the U.S. only! They also mentioned more countries will be added soon. Geez, looks like the great Canadian inferiority complex reared its ugly head once again.
And this does belong on the "Canadian" site because some Canadians actually get out once in a while and visit ymghe U.S. Great effort and keep up the good work. And if my fellow Canadians want. Cdn app, make it!!! Stop talking.
Alright, deserves better rating By: Itouch rocks - Feb 19, 2009 Version: 1.0 The map and directions are pretty neat, the only problem with this app is that in order to search for WiFi spots, you do need an Internet connection to begin with. Also, a few locations are missing. With an update, it could be quite useful for people that don't have WiFi all the time.
Rating: 5 stars for a few reasons.
1. Deserves better than 2 stars
2. Has real potential
3. Counteracting the terrible reviews that make this app look bad
4. Its FREE!! Why so harsh?! The developer didnt ask for anything in return for his work, dont hate :D
Worked as intended By: Name60582717858371716378-71737- - Mar 23, 2009 Version: 1.0 Loaded quickly and found several public places for me. I feel most of the people writing reviews don't have a clue what the functionality of this app is. If I understand correctly it will only show places that have been reported... Not every single wifi... So unless you have reported you router it would not find it because it is not in the apps database. I am in a big city which makes sense that it found so many locations for me.
Good App for iPhone By: Sha-Pink - Feb 18, 2009 Version: 1.0 Many of the bad reviews for this app are from Touch users. True, this app is more for iPhones. Touch users probably won't find it very useful.
But I have an iPhone. It's true, I have Internet access on my phone, but I also carry a laptop and do not carry a coffee maker.
This app is great and works exactly as described. I use it when I need more screen real estate than my phone offers. Tap a button and I'm off to find caffeine and free WiFi.
Touch users: it's okay that an app is device centric to the iPhone. It doesn't mean that it's a bad program. The bad reviews here are very much unwarranted.
iPhone users on the go: this is a must have app.
Kudos to the developers!
Review by a computer sci grad By: Socal resident - Feb 17, 2009 Version: 1.0 So I chose to buy an iPod touch because I did not want to have a trumped up monthly AT&T data plan.
At the time that I bought it, I searched for an app like this and could not find one. I did find the iPass app that let's you login to macdonalds, starbucks and some airports for around $7 a month on a yearly plan. Just don't exceed 1200 minutes a month cuz u will be billed 20 cents a minute by iPass.
This app works fantasticly, as long as you have the brains to perform a search prior to going to your destination. I use it at home prior to leaving or I can duck into a mcds or starbucks then search for a close by free place.
The only thing my ipod touch does not do that the iPhone does is be a phone. However new apps are coming out that will remedy that.
How much do u iPhone users pay At&t
I love this app
Works great!! By: Wbrogers - Mar 17, 2009 Version: 1.0 Loaded quickly and found a lot of free WiFi networks.
Since I've seen a lot of reviews that said you needed to be conneted to a WiFi network to use the app I decided to test that claim. I turned off the WiFi option of my IPhone and used the app. It loaded quickly and found local WiFi hotspots just as fast as it did when I was connected to my own WiFi network. I'm not sure why others are having a problem with this app, it works as it should.
Don't listen to the negative reviews By: Soft Shelled Taco - Feb 16, 2009 Version: 1.0 I tried this app because of the controversy and it works great. Showed me all the places around me with free wifi all being around .24-3 miles away. Works like it says, negative reviews are just retards with itouches that are pissed because they can't find their house on the application. The app finds place like dunking donuts and shops, not houses morons.
App does what it says well.
Near misses By: Hookoa - Jul 9, 2009 Version: 2.2 This is a great little app for right here in town, but shows some locations as being 48 miles away when its closer to 60, and when I tap on that location, it shows me the Starbucks here in town instead of the one in San Antonio that I tapped on. For nearby places, it works great and they actually added a couple I wasn't aware of. They have listed one in a hotel, that is for guests only. So... it is free, but only if you are staying there. I contacted the developer, who is VERY proactive, and they responded very quickly. This is a work in progress, and if your location is not shown, or none of the places you know are free wi-fi, just email them the names and addresses of the hotspots, and they get added. Very quickly. Good app, good people on the other end.
Does it's job By: antmag - Feb 16, 2009 Version: 1.0 This app had a low star rating when I checked it out. It also had a fair share of negative reviews. Gave it a chance anyways. It loaded in 20 seconds or less. First time I used it I got five locations with WiFi within 3 miles and it came up with those loations in less than 30 seconds. And I was on a 3G network. I think this app does it's job quite well. People should at least consider trying it out for themselves before judging this app. I just can't understand why people are saying you need WiFi to find WiFi. That's not the case with this app.
Great idea and handy for traveling By: jpadc - Jun 9, 2009 Version: 2.2 This is a great little app that helps you find a place to pick up a free Wi-Fi hot spot to use while traveling. Its nice that as I've found spots not in the the database, a simple email gets them added quickly which make it a more useful app for others. Rather than complain about missing places, ask for them to be added making the app better for all. My only wish is they would offer a version for purchase as I always prefer that over an ad supported app.

Great App By: FredinVirginia - Mar 5, 2009 Version: 1.0 You guys are way too hard. First of all, in the description, the developers state they have an ongoing effort to put together a nationwide list of free wifi hotspots and they're asking for our input. Secondly, it seems like only a minority of reviewers see the value in this service. Some of have more than one device. I'll use my iPhone to locate free wifi for my laptop or my wife's touch and/or laptop.
I appreciate the app and will be submitting the locations not covered. Thanks. It's a good app esp for the price.
U guys misunderstood By: Mosku - Apr 10, 2009 Version: 2.0 Apperantly, many people misunderstood this app. This tells you what places have wifi that u can access without a password. Those people thinking that this app gives you the password should learn that it's a violation to use another guy's wifi without permission. That's why there is the password.
At first, the app didn't start up, so I clicked the home button and accessed it again. After a couple seconds, it showed me the places with free wifi.
Does what it says By: Pickles1978 - Apr 8, 2009 Version: 1.0 I had no problems with this app. Download was superfast and it quickly listed several options based on my location (not just starbucks either). I have a 1st gen iPhone and the app worked fine with both wifi or just edge. As a student I'm always trying to find places with wifi to study. This will be a great help. Some of the one star review seem to be based on misconceptions about how the app works or what it is supposed to do.
This Isn't Really for Touch Users By: Rhendal - Feb 18, 2009 Version: 1.0 Answering some questions from some of these reviews:
- if you have an iPod Touch, this probably won't help you out, but if you have an iPhone, it can. I figured this would be obvious...
- wifi is almost always faster than edge or 3G. This is something else that should be obvious...
- there are more devices than an iPhone that can use free wifi other than the iPhone such as, let's say, a laptop. It's nice to be able to pull out a handheld device and find local businesses that offer free wifi for use by more than just your phone or iPod Touch.
My only gripe about this app is the lack of hotspots, but there is an option to inform them of hotspot locations. It's not like this company can cover the world by itself to find all of these places. If you're sitting at a hotspot and can't find it on here, let them know instead of whining about it.
Works great!! By: Wbrogers - Nov 16, 2009 Version: 2.3 Loaded quickly and found a lot of free WiFi networks.Since I've seen a lot of reviews that said you needed to be conneted to a WiFi network to use the app I decided to test that claim. Good app for finding free WiFi By: someguycalledmarty - Aug 4, 2009 Version: 2.2 If you need WiFi on the go, this is one of several apps you should have on your iPhone. It determines your location, searches a database, and gives you a list of nearby businesses, libraries, cafes, bars, etc. that offer free WiFi. The app had no problems finding my location using EDGE with WiFi turned off. The database is good. They also give you the opportunity to easily notify the developer of new WiFi hotspots -- straight from your iPhone. Developer is responsive and has added 100% of the free WiFi sites I found. The latest version is greatly improved and takes advantage of iPhone's Location Services, as well as allowing you to search by city or Zip Code, which comes in very handy when planning ahead while you travel. This is a good app and the developer is improving it by growing the database. I don't think any single app can provide a comprehensive listing of *all* the free wifi hotspots. I use both this app and the JiWire app to get a better idea of free WiFi hotspots when I travel. =M=
To all haters: By: Rert - Feb 16, 2009 Version: 1.0 You guys do realize this app is meant to show you were wifi is right? YOu aren't supposed to just go middle of nowhere and use it. There is also an invention... I believe it's called iPhone that has Internet wherever you go. Obviously you have to pay an extra $ for the Internet connection you want. Since some people have LIC they USE this app and tell them were free wifi is without no cost and better IC. So dont be all retarded and star complayning because you have an itouch. You people are retarded, makes me sick and yes this app is really good.
It works By: Steven123456?!?!?, - Feb 15, 2009 Version: 1.0 This app woks like it says. People complain that it takes forever to load and it doesnt work unless you use wifi. I downloaded it in 20 seconds, it found wifi in 10 seconds, and it can be used with att internet if you have an iphone. But itouch users should be able to download this app with a huge list of free wifi and type in a location to find wifi. It would take up a lot of memory but how eles are you suposed to find free wifi if you cant conect to wifi. And haveing to be conected to wifi to find wifi defeats the purpose. All in all this app works like it says. (ps. It works better on iPhone).
Works great!! Must have for road warriors, works very well. By: ProPilotDA900 - Mar 1, 2009 Version: 1.0 I normally don't comment but due to the amount of negative reviews by some bozo's I have to set the record straight. The app works great and it does what it was designed to do. It does not need wifi to make a connection as one bozo pointed out in their review. GPS will use your location and the app finds any free wifi. I would add ATT wifi locations to the data base. Anyway, I'm traveling on business staying in a small town of maybe 5000 population and Free WiFi found me several locations, I wasn't expecting that so yes it does work. I'm sitting here with my cup of java writing this comment from a free wifi location.
