GasBag is a user-driven application that provides the fastest way to find the cheapest gas near you. GasBag allows you to search for any type of gas, log your mileage and gas expenses, and track the efficiency of your car.

Reviews:
the best gasoline app.... By: velodoug - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 2.0.5 To my knowledge, this is the only map-based gas price finder. I've tried Gas Buddy which keeps on getting great reviews on cnet.com, but it PALES in comparison to GasBag. I can't believe people use it without it being map-based. My favorite use of this app is when I have to return a rental car. Of course, you are in an area you aren't familiar with, so I just plug in the zip code of the rental return and I can often save $0.50/gallon compared to the station at or in view of the rental return by just going a block or two out of my way. The logging functionality is great if you need it. I'm using it, but am not sure I really am ever going to review my logs. If I had a car that didn't track my mileage maybe I'd be more vested in it. Customer service has also been responsive to requests to add or remove gas stations from the map. The results aren't immediate, but they always have followed through on my requests. I love this app and wish there were more users.
Best UI in class By: orvalle - Sep 25, 2009 Version: 2.0.5 This app is quick and works the way you want it to, from a map. You can use GPS, zip code AND enter a city and state to start things. Results cover more than one zip code (unlike some others). And, most importantly, you can use this free version to see if it will work for you in your driving.
Its only weakness is that it's database is not as robust as some but in communities where people help out with updates (the only real reason for the negative "app fail" issues) it works really well and will help you save money and monitor gas mileage.
Love It! By: Sue - Australia - Sep 4, 2009 Version: 2.0.5 I love the idea of this app so bought the pro version. Like many other reviewers l am trying to encourage other users to fill in gas prices for their areas so that the community benefits. It only takes a minute to update the 3 or 4 prices so isn't exactly hard! I live in a small country town so I regularly just stop out the front of the gas station as l pass & update the prices. Helps me to know if l should fill up in my town or wait until l get into a larger city.
Too slow keeps crashing needs improvement By: Elvin Arimont - Jul 5, 2009 Version: 2.0.5 First of all the app is way too slow and loading the map is just painful. App interrupts the music I have playing in the background. And what's the point of an app that helps me find gas prices when I have to input the prices myself.
Most of the time the prices are incorrect. Maybe the developers can somehow tie into some of the websites that have up to date gas prices. Also need to change the whole map thing. It just looks generic and again way too slow.
Great app By: Jeff Battles - Jun 3, 2009 Version: 2.0.5 This app is user supported (meaning it relies on people to provide it's data. I seem to be the only one in my area that provides more than just the low grade price for gas.) If you only have one car there is no need to pay for the full version of this app. It keeps track of your overall mileage, which can be done with your standard calculator but this makes it even easier. Couldn't ask for more from a free app. Good job.
One more thing... By: SunsetG - Oct 6, 2008 Version: 1.2.0 When I first used this app, there were NO prices at the gas stations that came up on my map. This is because nobody in my area was using it yet. I went out and updated the prices myself. When you return to the map screen the price you just added is not there yet. This is because the map was loaded with the prices BEFORE you updated them. If there was no price to begin with, there will still be no price when you go back to the map from the update screen. But when you reload the app again from the icon screen, you WILL see your updated prices. Join the revolution!!! This app is user dependant; the more users, the more accurate. -G
Awesome Application! By: Heywood Jablo-mi - Oct 6, 2008 Version: 1.2.0 Of all the free applications I've downloaded, this has to be more beneficial one of all. It's perfect for not having a clue about the price of gas for a station because nobody updates the data. Many of the stations aren't listed -- I love that part the most! I only wish someone would create "Breadbag" and then we could all go around and load the price of a loaf of bread. This would benefit many people attempting to deterimine where the best price for bread was. And "Mouthwashbag" would help, too! Imagine having an army of soldiers inputing the latest mouthwash prices at various stores. What a blessing for humankind that would be. I only pray for that day to occur in my son's lifetime.
Good app By: Lt.GW - Feb 27, 2009 Version: 2.0.3 Compared to iGas, this app has better mapping. But iGas has auto update, which can be behind by a day or two, but is more consistent than depending upon users to feed the latest prices.
Update: the ability to add a station is very cool. The app is slowly improving. Loading time has been improved.
Update 2: now you can email a back up of your data which is nice. The author has done a great job. Now prices can be updated all at once (per station). Once verified by you, the prices are pushed within a minute or two.
The advantage of Gasbag is that you can add a station and update it's prices. This is a wonderful tool that iGas doesn't have, and iGas often misses stations. I use both and have saved about $40 this past month.
Latest version is near perfect. Users need to be more active. By: Heigev - Feb 22, 2009 Version: 2.0.3 The latest version fixes much of the slowness that kept the previous version from being useful on the fly. Keep in mind that the prices are updated by local users, so if your station isn't listed or the prices aren't accurate, then you just need to take the initiative and update the info. It seems to me that there is plenty of incentive to update gas prices. If a local community makes a habit out of doing so, everyone wins and saves money . . . I'm planning on purchasing the Pro version. People who develop apps like this and offer a free full functioning version deserve to be supported.
Amazing App! By: Ivoryplum - Feb 18, 2009 Version: 2.0.3 Update: the recent update is amazing. The map loads instantly after opening, where before there was a 20-30 second lag. And if you're driving by a gas station, that's just way too long to remember all 3 gas prices while driving too. Love the new interface too.
Thank you!!
I don't know what everyone is talking about! This app is simply amazing. And the fact that you are giving it one star is rediculous, especially since YOU GOT IT FOR FREE!! Why even bother complaing. With their new update you can add gas stations to the maps. So all of you complaining that gas stations around you arent even showing up, now you can add them to their database. Honestly, everyone should give this app a try. Plus it relys on other users of the app to add the gas price data in, the more people that use the app, the more reliable the prices are. Also, theres a log book included in this app. It'll track your average price paid for a year, month, week...also your MPG and which gas station you purchased it from. This in it self is worth getting the app. oh, and did I mention ITS FREE!!

Find cheep gas in your area! By: JAinLA - Jan 23, 2009 Version: 2.0.3 This is the best app on my phone. It shows me where I'll find the best gas prices or a particular station and allows me to track my mileage. Great user interface makes it easy to find stations and track mileage. I have even added stations that aren't listed to make the list more complete. It works best in densely populated areas since it relies on users to input gas prices and enter missing locations. Everything is very clean and well thought out. You can use it simply as a station finder or to track mileage. If you only find stations you're not contributing. If you track mileage then the information provided to others will be more accurate.
Need more users! By: DeniBear - Jan 8, 2009 Version: 1.3.4 Pro: very handy app. Makes it very easy to see if it's worth it to drive a couple more blocks before stopping for gas.
Cons: crashes more than I'd like, but that could be because I didn't reboot iPhone after installing. Also, at least in my area, the information is a bit skimpy. The solution to this problem, of course, is MORE USERS! :-)
Warning: if there are a lot of stations close together, you have to zoom in to see them all. I thought some were missing until I figured this out.
Suggestions for improvements: faster loading! Especially when entering prices and the app can't keep up with my slow typing! Also, when entering the prices, my natural instinct is to push the button closest to my active hand (left), which caused me to "go back" instead of "enter" and lost data a couple of times. An option to move that button would be neat. Finally, I see how to add a new station, but I don't see a way to remove a station (there's one on my map that doesn't exist) or change the name of a station in case the company changes (i.e.: Shell becomes Chevron).
Last but not least, I for one would be willing to pay $.99 for this app to get rid of the ads (I think they are part of the slow loading problem, for one thing), but I definitely wouldn't recommend to the developer to get rid of the free version, since there are other free ones out there to compete. Just my $.02 :-)
Very Useful Price & Log! I use it every time, before & after fill-up By: MetaChimp - Dec 9, 2008 Version: 1.3.3 Not only can I check the gas prices across town without having to drive from station to station, I can ALSO keep track of each time I fill up, where I filled up at (in case I ever get bad gasoline), and how much I paid. In addition, it tracks my average miles per gallon, by the week, month & year! Every time I fill up, I enter the local gas price (for everyone else), then I enter my purchase information and vehicle miles for myself, and I have my vehicle expense data for the entire year! My only complaint is that finding stations on the map is PAINFULLY SLOW on Edge network. Other than that, it's wonderful! thank you!
This app is way better than the rating By: diehardpoke - Dec 5, 2008 Version: 1.3.3 I originally stayed away from this app due to the rating, but was convinced by a friend to install. I installed this FREE app just for the log book, which works perfectly. Users have to remember that the app is an interface and the data is from the users not the developer. With it being a free app you have to expect advertising (how many of you work for free), but the ads are not over bearing at all. Please read some of the good reviews and compare to the bad reviews. The bad reviews are related to things the developer can not control or have been corrected. Thanks jamcode.
Great app to track spending and mpg By: Aluvendale - Dec 2, 2008 Version: 1.3.3 This app is great. Those giving bad reviews say that you should "wait" to download this later when there is more data. That's ridiculous. . . the data is user created. More people need to download it and use it for it to get better. When I first downloaded this app, there were NO prices reported for stations in my area. But now, more and more people are using it and it improves every day. The interface for inputting gas purchases is easy to use. I can enter a purchase in seconds. I can also see my mile per gallon consumption and average price by week, month, and year. It also calculates your cost efficiency. For example, every mile I currently drive costs about 8 cents. It can even keep track of how much you spend at each station. I really like this app and I hope you will to.
I like it By: nielson98 - Nov 25, 2008 Version: 1.3.1 I do a lot of traveling for my job, so this app is great for me to find the cheapest gas around. The database is still growing (there is now an option to upload a new gas station), so it's getting better all the time. Download it and add the stations in your area. Something I would like to see in future releases is a place in the logbook to log oil changes and tire rotations. No, it doesn't have much to do with the cheapest gas around, but I use this program to track my milage too, so it would be nice to know when I need to change my oil.
Good but needs additional improvement By: jakarr - Nov 24, 2008 Version: 1.3.1 Thankfully the developer seems to be addressing concerns, even if it's not as quickly as some would hope. My top two wishlist items are
1) Improve interaction with the map. Zooming is ridiculously hard.
2) Add a function to flag or delete misplaced stations. I see many duplicates and instances where google misinterperates the address. This makes it tougher to find real stations and less likely that people will update them.
could be better By: Misc brah - 27-Jun-2009 Version: 2.0.5 Would be better if different types of fuels could be entered. EG: I use high octane unleaded which is conciderably dearer than regular unleaded, so when I enter $1:39 per liter for my high octane in the unleaded fuel section when regular unleaded is $1.14, people would get the wrong price details if they happened to see my petrol station on their iPhone. Also, navigating around the app is a bit irrational. It took me a few minutes to find my stored logs. All in all I like this app. I rate it 18/20 and it has potential. I'll continue to use it.
Great app By: moggle_spears - 22-Feb-2009 Version: 2.0.3 Great app. Love how you can add stations yourself. Would love a function to delete petrol stations. I noticed a user has put a station where I know there isn't one.
Also, a button that adds a petrol station to your current gps location would be great. Eg: I'm filling up with fuel, and glance at gasbag and see this petrol station isn't on there. I don't want to find out a street address to add the station for other gasbag users. I want to add it exactly where my gps location is.
Also, when I'm driving, and my little car symbol moves off the screen, it should load the next map.
Other than that, great app and great concept!
(how good would this app be combined with trapster into one app! You could choose whether to see petrol stations or police activity on the same map)
GasBag Is a Great Tool By: Majikal1 - Nov 12, 2008 Version: 1.2.0 I've been using GasBag since I bought my iPod and have to say it's really a wonderful app. I haven't utilized a large amount of stations available to me, but update prices as I find them. My favorite part is allowing you to keep track of all your fuel purchases by entering the amount of money you paid per gallon, your mileage at the time of sale, and it keeps track of your average MPG's. I discovered I actually get much better mileage that originally thought! I find it very useful! Great Job, guys!
