Amazing By: vandeansing - Jun 29, 2009 Version: 1.7.3 I tend to work late nights and weekends when the trains are...inconsistant. I can find out what trains are running at which stops and when they arrive. Also, if I'm somewhere unfamiliar, I can hit a button and it tells me where I am and where I need to go to catch a train and when it will arrive. It's amazing to know if I have 20 minutes to kill or can catch a train immediately. It's never been more than 2 minutes off. That's worth it! It also lists advisories when the trains are screwey.
Great App, use all the time By: Buda36 - May 31, 2009 Version: 1.7 I use this app all the time. Since moving to NY 6 months ago I find myself continually in need of a subway map. OK so the train times are not exact, but they're close enough. The app also downloads the service updates continuously so you'll know if a particular line is out of service etc. This is a must-have app if you're a more recent New Yorker or just coming to visit for a few days. Well worth the money.
Five Star Program By: Squirrelcop - May 3, 2009 Version: 1.7 Just returned from my first trip to NYC in over 20 years. It worked flawlessly. It got me on the correct trains every single time and even the walking directions were perfect. There are so many lines of subways in NYC it would make your head spin. It made me feel sorry for the people i saw on the subways trying to decipher the paper maps of the systems painstakingly trying to figure out transfer points and the express routes. This program does it all and takes into account downed lines and track repairs. The only negative thing and it was not the fault of the program is that you cannot update your route or change routes once underground because there is no cell service with AT&T underground in NYC. You must go topside to gain service then enter a new route. Was not even a problem for my trip as I plotted everything above ground before entering the system. Thank you so much !
My favorite app that I use all the time By: monsieuramour - Apr 15, 2009 Version: 1.7 Honestly, every new yorker that owns an Ipod/iphone should get this app. It's indispensable. The graphics are clear and crisp, it loads fast, never crashes, and works even when there is no connection (i.e in the subway). Avoid looking at those subway maps with all the tourists, and check your route for ease of mind while in the train, check for train times, find close metro stops, etc...it does it all! I'm not sure about the other subway apps but this one really works well, and can't imagine what the other apps could offer that is better (other than the price, but seriously, it's worth it). Get this app...really....you won't be dissapointed.
Great app for NYC visitor By: MS4505 - Apr 14, 2009 Version: 1.7 Highly recommend this to anyone not familiar with the Subway system who will need to be navigating it. I took my family to NYC for vacation as the kids wanted to see the city. This App was worth far more money than $5 for the comfort it provided in knowing what I was doing in unfamiliar territory. By entering where we were and where we wanted to go the App quickly provided step by step directions that worked even when there was no signal underground. Showed what stops were next, how many until we get off (have to count them but hey), what train to switch to, and where to walk after exiting the station. The GPS chip didn't always locate us perfectly which affected the accuracy of the directions to the nearest station, but a quick switch to Google maps (where the location was also wrong but maps more detailed) kept us on track. Learned to just enter the station I could see as my starting point instead of "current location". Also had one station on the map that we could never find but friendly locals directed us to a nearby station where the App took over perfectly.
Incredibly Useful By: Edwin E. - Apr 2, 2009 Version: 1.7 This last version deserves a review. I've had the app since the very beginning and I must say it has improved a lot. Not only is it very useful in the subway, since it does not need 3G to show the train map, but it is very stable and reliable. Of course, it is not 1000% accurate. It can never be! Not even the billionaires at google have come up with such accuracy (sometimes the "find me" option in maps goes nuts). Anyway, the new improvements in this version (1.7) make the app worthy of its price (still looking for the new icon, though!). And, on top of that, all updates are free (at least so far). So, in conclusion, for $4.99 you get a reliable-NYC Subway mapping-app that simply works. It does not crash, freeze, or anything alike. Congrats to the developers and keep up the good work!
A traveler's lifesaver!!! By: Spinnin' Wheeler - Mar 23, 2009 Version: 1.6.2 An incredible timesaver while on our latest trip to NYC. It not only knew the best route from station to station, but, if you were connected to a cell signal, you could also get subway directions by typing in addresses and/or landmarks. The ability to also see a particluar line's stops helped a lot too. We didn't need any folded maps to carry around: only this incredible app on the iPhone!!! Thanks for the great app - well worth the price!!!
best NYC subway map I've tried By: DC in NYC - Sep 19, 2009 Version: 1.7.6 This is probably the ONE subway map application you need on your iPod. There are several subway map apps out there, but this one integrates map and train stop information, and downloads service diversion info from the MTA. All of this (as long as you update the service diversions before you go underground) is available without an internet connection. Online integration with Google Maps, including walking directions, is just icing on the cake. As a New Yorker who uses the subway daily, this is probably the most useful application on my iPod touch. Now the developers just need to tackle the NYCT bus system and we'll be all set!
Really good but needs work By: liquidtodd - Sep 7, 2009 Version: 1.7.5 First I should say iTrans is the best subway app. Period. But I want more! When displaying schedule data for each station it doesn't show you trains that are leaving immediately and it should. Sometimes I'm already in the station and I'm just curious. Also I should be able to scroll thru schedule info to see farther into the past/future. Also I love the screen which displays entire train lines but why can't I tap other stations on that page and jump to them?Thx 4 fixing the directions bug but that part of the app still needs more work. And I'm just spitballing here but how about an option to automatically and periodically load alerts. Sometimes I'm already out of wireless range before I remember to check.Ok that's all 4 now. Kudos to developer 4 quick response to my support question email.
Live in NYC? Use the subway all the time? Buy this. Buy this NOW. By: Tragic.Taco - Jan 18, 2009 Version: 1.5 This app is ridiculously useful. The subway schedules are fairly accurate - you can get current arrival times, or you grab schedules from a certain date (future AND past). Need to get to a particular train station? Submit the stations you intend to travel from and to, and the app will give you the shortest possible route, with an estimate travel time. Best of all (at least, on a personal note), you have the whole NYC subway map on your device - which means, as most will come to appreciate, you can figure out your trip without being subjected to dirty looks from the hairy guy sitting in front of the map in a given car. Now that's awesome.

Worth Every Penny (and then some!) By: AHG123 - Dec 14, 2008 Version: 1.5 I bought this app in advance of a day trip to NYC this past weekend. I was only planning to use the subway to get around (cabs aren't cheap!), and had done some research before the trip so I knew the subway lines and stops. With my 3G, I was able to get exact directions to each of the stations which made my trip more efficient that I had planned. This app is awesome and totally worth more than the $4.99 price. I will never go to NYC again without this app!
ABSOLUTE Tourist Necessity!! By: SartellDad - Aug 9, 2009 Version: 1.7.5 I visited Manhattan this year for the first time. I can say that I don't know how I would have survived without this app. I got a 1 week subway pass after taking the AirTrain from JFK and never looked back. Traveling around the city was easy and cheap on the subway... I never spent a single dime on a cab after 4 days in the city. Ok, maybe I missed out on this quintessential NY experience (cab ride), but at least I had this app to make me look like a local when getting around town. iTrans... I "Heart" You!!!
Become a savvy commuter By: assault_is_eternal - Aug 9, 2009 Version: 1.7.5 Excellent application, and it's cheaper and better than anything I had on my Palm. The last two updates made it better than anything else in the app store (and I own two other programs like it). I use it every day for the train schedule feature; I like the inclusion of the time of the train you "missed", since we've all seen trains held up for a few minutes by the jerk who won't let the doors close.
Perfect for New Yorkers By: zubejob - Aug 7, 2009 Version: 1.7.5 I live in Manhattan and I use this app all the time to figure out where I am going without looking like a tourist. The times are pretty accurate unless the trains are off schedule. Nothing itrans can do about that. This is by far the most useful paid app I have! To those who say you can't use this without Internet, you can use the map and see times underground. What else do you need? Of course it can't do address lookup without Internet, neither can Google maps! Stop complaining! Seems like app reviewers complain more than the average person...
Honest App Review By: .NewYorker. - Dec 9, 2008 Version: 1.5 Update: The updates to this app made it better so I now give it 5 stars.
This Subway map is good but more could be done to make it great. For now I’m giving this app 4 stars because I think it should have some of the things I mentioned below. The developer should consider these things to make this app the best NYC subway map. 1. Update the app so we could enter home and street addresses when searching for directions. For example if we entered a street address as our destination it would show us the closest subway stop to that address. 2. NYC bus maps. 3. A legends box on the bottom left of the map itself would be useful so we could tell what some of those signs mean. 4. I don’t know if this is possible but if someone made the subway maps complete with high graphical (not flat looking) subway lines, all streets with names and cross streets, and step by step walking and subway direction from any address to another in the NYC area all in one app would be amazing
Very Useful Subway App By: F.C.R. - Nov 7, 2008 Version: 1.3 This is one of the most useful applications I have bought for my iphone. The best feature of this application is the inclusion of the subway schedule. As a New Yorker, I like to be efficient with my time. I like to know when the next train will come. All you have to do is tap on the station, look at the subway line you want and underneath it there is a list of all the next departure times. This has come in handy when I am waiting at a station such as West 4th street. There are two subways I can take home from this station, the A/C or the B/D. Unfortunately they are located on separate upper and lower level platforms, so in the past I would wait on the middle level and try to listen for which train would come first. With this application I was able to figure out which train would come first and wait for it on the correct platform. The departure times listed are surprisingly accurate, especially if you are traveling later at night when trains are less frequent. I've been recommending this application to all my friends, and I recommend it to you too.
Finally! By: unlimitedrider - Nov 1, 2008 Version: 1.3 I'm disappointed it took me so long to find this. iPhones sold in NYC should come bundled with this application. I ride the train a couple times a day, and, unlike the Tube in London, sometimes it's difficult to find a single map on a car in NYC. I wouldn't have paid $15, but at $5 I didn't even think twice. It's dreamy. I can't believe I was considering the other clunky import-tiles-to-iphoto-save-in-album nonsense. iTrans is the only way to go.
Perfect By: Nycguy900 - Oct 27, 2008 Version: 1.3 Perfect!! I am a native New Yorker and this App has it all.The best part is the service changes, it is up to date. So if someone gets sick on the F Train at 1 pm and there is a delay. It gives you the heads up, even zooms in on the actual poster in the station for the weekend and night changes. The times are correct, i mean its New York City, you have to give and take a few Minutes. But you zoom on any station and it works without need of WiFi. Just click for the service change when you have WiFI and it stays on even when you are underground. You can even get times for the next day for any train at any stop. It gives you the uptown and downton times for you station. Buy This App..
A beacon of hope for the directionally impaired!!! By: fablloyd - Sep 29, 2008 Version: 1.3 Love this app. I bought other NYC subway apps and this is the best. Perfect for folks like me who are directionally impaired and visit New York needing massive help to take advantage of the subway. Seriously, I would stand and look at my subway map for half an hour trying to figure out how to get from A to B and feeling like an idiot. This app gives detailed instructions similar to the maps app including train transfers, station transfers and running times. Works in the subway so you don't have to rely on a signal. Really well done app that takes full advantage of what the iphone can offer.
Highly Recommended App for Any Subway Rider By: The Walls Bend - Sep 10, 2008 Version: 1.1 This application is really useful for both the Tourist and the experienced New Yorker. I have lived in the city for awhile and know the lines fairly well, but this application still comes in handy, giving me the exact schedule of the trains at every station in addition to the advisory updates that make me aware of any changes in service. WIthout needing the internet, I have all the information I need to get to the farthest reaches of the city without ever going above ground. I'm glad to see that iTrans is now making a NJ Transit application. Any chance that Metro-North could be next?
