*THIS* is what I've been waiting for.  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: Charlie Griefer - Sep 11, 2009
Version: 1.2.0
In the year that I've owned my iPhone, I've purchased quite a few apps. Never been -so- pleased that I felt compelled to write a review. Until now.
I bought my iphone because I needed both a phone and a GPS system, and thought the iPhone had both out of the box. Of course, it didn't. Waited patiently for the turn-by-turn apps to show up. Almost jumped on the Tom-Tom, but so glad I waited. Ordered MobileNavigator at the $69.99 price (and would have gladly paid more).
It's everything a standalone GPS unit is (especially with the most recent update). Yes, it takes up 1.4GB on my 8GB phone. That's the worst thing I can say. Other than that, the functionality is perfect. Now with text-to-speech for street names. I love the fact that it displays speed limits (don't so much love the fact that it always cautions me that I'm going over the speed limit). iPod integration, automatic switch to night view... click an existing contact and get directions... perfect implementation of a GPS app on the iPhone.
Really... just could not be better.

Great App  rating of MobileNavigator North America

I own a Garmin Nuvi 350 but decided to try this app since I have my iPhone with me everywhere. I installed it yesterday and it is amazing! Works perfectly. I like it better than the Garmin. If I go off route, it recalculate instantly. Very fast response time. I like the speed warnings and the fact that you can specify how much over the speed limit you want to go before being warned. I like the ability to customize the dosplayes POIs.

Beyond my expectations  rating of MobileNavigator North America

Considering the interference I get with the compass app when the phone is mounted at the dashboard, this app amazed me with setting the correct direction quickly.I tested it for a week with local driving here in Vancouver and then took it through a couple days vacation to Seattle. Finding POIs in an unfamiliar area never been that good espicially that I had data roamin turned off so the maps app was useless there. The rerouting feature was instant in over 95% of the cases. Also, lane assist was the cream on the pie. Please Navigon add the speed limits here in Canada.I highly recommend this app.

The good: I just finished a 600-mile trip navigating only with this app and it worked flawlessly. Five stars now that there is an off switch for that horrible voice (am I the only person on the planet who hates talking GPS machines?) and accurate maps. The not-so-good: I had to clear 4GB - yes, 4GB - of space to install the latest update, even though it's only 1.3GB in size; it takes a bloody hour to update. The app is also very, very slow to respond to commands; I frequently play the on-off-on-off game with the settings because I hit the button again thinking it didn't take but it really did, it's just slow to respond and there's no feedback given when the software is busy processing something. I expect a whole lot from an app that costs a large fraction of the cost of the entire device, so please don't stop making improvements. Lastly, PLEASE make the "sound off" setting sticky between launches so I don't need to go in and shut the sound off every time I launch the app, and, once the sound is off, stop sending dead air through the speakers such that it interrupts my music.

Worth every penny. I strongly recommend this app.I went on a 1700 miles road trip from Montreal Canada to North Carolina USA. Was very cool driving with this GPS app. Well done Navigon! Speed limit feature is very cool but unfortunately was only available in USA during my trip (august 09). Please add us in Canada!I want to suggest three features concerning contacts. FAVORITES:This should be a must in your next update. We should be able to add 'favorite' to a contact AND same thing with 'itinerary'. ITINERARY:'Go back' should be added. I mean with the same itinerary (we should be able to choose from 'A' TO 'B' from 'B' TO 'A'). Also it should be possible to add it to a contact.Record GPS position:We should be able when desired to record the GPS position then adding it to a contact.••please fix the signal strengh••Few minor things (few GPS signal drops). Often there is not enought signal strength when standing in a house or a building for by example tracing a route. Navigon will fall in 'simulation mode'. Compare to MAPS (from Google in the Iphone) who can locate you everywhere and even knowing where you are pointing with the Iphone precisely Navigon was not able to locate me in a house here and in NC USA.Secondly:Please allow a short pause of talking to the assistance's voice if the GPS signal drops and comes back. It felt boring when I came back from NC. The voice was reapeating the same thing again and again after a signal drop. Few times Navigon was trying to trace a new route when the signal was coming back (even if I was driving on a 22 miles stretch) and the voice was repeating again. Maybe adding a memory buffer should be good thing (or something that remember the app where you were before a drop).

Had issues but fixed and now works great  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: Satiated - Sep 11, 2009
Version: 1.2.0
I had a lot of GPS issues, especially when turning, but did as their FAQ recommend and cleared the phone and did a restore - the GPS has been great since. Street names would be great but the verbal commands are good enough as is and the street sign image is fantastic (and something NOT in TomTom). I'd recommend this over TomTom as of now and the update for this was a big improvement and another update is planned so I'd expect this to grow faster than TomTom as well. Even better while on sale. With latest update it got even better - now a 5 star app :)

Best app ever !!!!  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: Crazynickname - Sep 1, 2009
Version: 1.1.0
Pros: Voice turn-by-turn Quickly recalculates routes Quickly syncs to GPS satellites Great Graphics Easy to use and navigate Speaks the street names Landscape and portrait mode Cons: Drains battery quicker (but that's expected) POIs aren't completely current No traffic integration ( however I was told they are adding it in the fall) This is better than my standalone TomTom GPS !!! Also, I have to give a shout out to my friend Erik who pointed this out !

Update(11-27-2009)  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: Jayveejvut - Nov 27, 2009
Version: 1.3.0
So everything is back up and running perfectly just uninstalled and reinstalled and the live traffic was still there no need to buy it again and the gps lock is alit quicker thank you fir being the best app i have bought for this phone This is a world class app if everything works properly. This is not the case. The reason why I gave this app a 1 star is because as of yesterday I can't get any gps with my iPhone with navigon, google maps works perftly. The whole point of this app is gps and without it this becomes a terrible terrible app. This is like the facebook app not letting you log in. Once they fix the gps ill give it a 5 star rating. Please fix this navigon you were my most trusted and likeable app. Please don't make me delete this app. I am proud that i bought this application there are many times u have bought a app and have regretted it, especially with such a high price for a app(89.99) i was worried if this app would fall under the apps i regretted buying but that was the furthest thing from my mind today as i used navigon's traffic live update to get around the city. This now has everything i have wanted and more. Thank you Navigon for letting me know i have made the best app purchase since i have owned this phone. Small small thing i want still from this app is a option to change the size of the font and two have better iPod controls. Aside from that this is a perfect gps app. (Review was on 9-18-2009)This is a great gps. I have some small flaws I would like fixed1. Add live traffic updates2. Allow us to change size of the font3. Allow us to control iPod playlist4. Update poi'sAside from these and just to say these are very small flaws. The overall app is one of the best apps I have ever bought. I am very glad I decided to buy this app instead of Tom Tom. Please do these updates and I will change my rating to 5 star.

A happy camper here  rating of MobileNavigator North America

I bought this a month ago and I'm quite happy with my purchase. I need a gps unit only on occasion so the features are more than adequate. I live in the GTA and it has been very accurate so far. I've experienced a couple of glitches but they were obvious glitches so no harm done. I read traffic info will be available this month ,I think that will make it a no brainer for folks who can't decide between this and Tomtom. My wife and I both have an iPhone so the price comes out to $45@. Buy it, you won't regret it!

Excellent Application - Best By Far!!!!  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: Shing-man - Nov 27, 2009
Version: 1.3.0
I bought this application when it was first released and it deserved 5 stars then. With the introduction of a much-anticipated traffic feature, it now deserves 6 stars. I have been using the application daily and it stands head and shoulders above the competition. It gives clear announcements of the road names, continues your navigation after a call, automatically factors traffic conditions into the selection of the 'optimal' route, plays your iPod music while it navigates, and provides several other features that make your navigation experience outstanding. Navigon did their homework when they created this app. I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about buying the best navigation app.

Update is just what I was looking for  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: ESW007 - Sep 11, 2009
Version: 1.2.0
My first review when I purchased this follows this review. The new update with voice directions only solidifies my decision to purchase this over Tom Tom. Hands down the best GPS for your iPhone. -------------------------------- initial review -------> I was waiting for Tom Tom to come out And then for some reviews to post. I chose this one over Tom Tom becuase of the bad reviews it was getting. I am definitely not disappointed with my decision. The gps picks up quickly for me (usually less than 5 seconds). The graphics are great and the map is accurate. Plus the price is not bad. I use to use Copilot on my tilt and thought it was decent too. However the maps did lag behind in the updates. Another reason why I did not choose them either.

Excellent!  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: tpierce220 - Sep 1, 2009
Version: 1.1.0
I really wanted to get the Tom Tom, but I was leery of spending $100 with mixed reviews. I began to search to see if there was something besides the Tom Tom and found the Navigon AG. The $70 price seemed more reasonable, and the reviews seemed to be much better overall. I was impressed that the GPS system was rated at 4 stars. I downloaded it as I went to bed that night and it was finished and ready to go the next morning. It worked like a charm, and I've been more than impressed with it. I found that punching in an address is pretty straightforward and even begins to help by narrowing down your choices as you begin to type. The POIs seem to be fairly up-to-date, and I really appreciate that this GPS (unlike my car's GPS) has more recent maps such as an extension to a major expressway that has been open for a couple of years.

Best navigation app on the iPhone  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: Rivevrivwiq - 8-Oct-2009
Version: 1.2.0
I have this for two months now, can safely say Navigon works extremely well on my 3GS. When I need to make a turn, the app ALWAYS give me advance notice that I have to make the turn ahead. Re-routing happens almost instantly when I don't follow the original route. I am really amazed by how accurately this app and the iPhone together could pin point my location. Text to speech is a great update that add value to this app. Even at full price, Navigon still offers better value than the other navigation app. I am so glad that I followed my friend's advice and bought Navigon at promotional price instead of waiting for TomTom.

Best App, Buy it Guaranteed  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: Hmagallon - Sep 11, 2009

After TomTom maid their Nav App announcement I was patiently awaiting for their late summer release. Sorry TomTom you took too long and I'm very fortunate that you did. I blindly went ahead and purchased the Navigon after it's release and have been very pleased since. I have a few friends that purchased TomTom that are very dissapoited in comparison to my Navigon, no contest. The lastest update just placed this App in it's own league. Updated last night and have tested it all day today with no issues to report. Load time is much faster, TTS is precise and clear, Ipod functions work very well. Thank you very much Navigon for listening to reviewers request and for making it happen with your free updates in a short period of time, keep them coming. For those of you that are having signal issues, make sure the Iphone is positioned in clear view of the sky. I too was having some signal issues 3gs until I purchased a ProClip with Universal Swivel Tilt Mount (can be used with skins) that's made specifically for my car and cleanly mounts on my front dash.

Longtime TomTom user switches to Navigon  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: kdub3000 - Sep 1, 2009
Version: 1.1.0
I started using TomTom on my windows mobile phone back in 2003 and then got the TomTom One a few years ago. I've been waiting for the app for the iPhone, but was not impressed with what finally came out. Navigon is great! I finally purchased it and so far I am very impressed with it. The amount of information on the map while driving is what sold me. I like being to see the names of roads that are parallel to me without having to switch to 2-D mode. The only changes/ upgrades I would like are: - Make the address parser from contacts a little smarter. If it fails at first, bring all fields into one string and parse again using some reg exp to parse in reverse. (zip, state, town, etc) - add traffic support from google maps. If the road is red (heavy traffic) for 5 miles, put up a countdown timer and change the road color. If I press the countdown timer, offer to make a new route around the traffic. - Make a car mount like TomTom is doing (or be compatible with it)

Awesome  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: DreamcastDC - Sep 30, 2009
Version: 1.2.0
Update: 09/30/2009 Man the new 1.2 update is so cool with the text to voice and iPod intergration, I can wait until the next update with live Traffic, going to buy it the first day it releases. Oh yeah the TomTom app is a ripoff, and the. TomTom dock is even more ripoff. Oh yeah for those people who have GPS reception problems, your iPhone GPS chip is faulty, my first 3gs had trouble getting a signal lock, got my 3GS replaced and now I can get a GPS signal lock everytime quick, so get your unit replace. Old review: I really like Navigon navgation software but it is missing a lot of feature that other standalone gps unit have, like route preview, street text to voice, avoid road, live traffic, hope those will be added in a future update, once it has been added this navgation software will be perfect and it is better than the TomTom iPhone app IMO, and it is way better than my built in 2007 Prius GPS.

Sound's A Little Shakey  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: Blurro - Sep 11, 2009
Version: 1.2.0
Just got back from my first trial run. No doubt Navigon is superior to G-Maps East and the iPhone's own little nav program, but it's a long way short of the Garmin Nuvi that I regularly depend on. Found the Navigon interface to be a bit idiosyncratic; even so, even though I live in the hinterlands of Vermont, GPS signal was strong and quick. My biggest objection so far: the Lady in the Box's voice. It's loud enough, but so distorted as to be almost indeciperable. I'm going to try it out with my plug-in Road Tripper, and also with my little earpiece. But as a pure stand-alone, the voice prompt situation pulls the Navigon program back towards the middle of the pack. OK, one more star. Spent the afternoon tootling about southern Vermont with the iPhone 3G either perched atop my Road Tripper, or plugged into my ear with my little stolen (from Delta) headset. As nasty as the Lady in the Box's voice is played over the iPhone's speakers, that's how nice it is using either of these two methodologies. I can highly recommend both. Additionally, I took the Navigon software to the most obscure parts of the most obscure state, and found it to be unfailingly accurate and prompt. I know that as the days go by I'll find other things to either love or hate, but for now, after only using it for three or four hours, put me in the "Love It" category. OK, now it's several weeks later. Just got back from a 2000 mile roadtrip to Indiana with all five of my iPhone navigators. GMaps East has already hit the dumper; IGo will probably be next. I'll hang onto TomTom at least until the windshield mount appears. Couple of general conclusions. Navigon, even without the latest update, is the pick of the iPhone litter. None of the iPhone nav programs is as competent as my 205 Garmin. And as time has gone by, I am increasingly baffled by Apple's unwillingness --now, and back at the very beginning -- to do their own SERIOUS nav program. With their talent, and command of the sweetest interface on the planet, Apple could throw down a nav system that'd make mincemeat of all the others, sell it for $150, and get even richer even quicker. Here's hoping they still might do it. Until then, consider me a Navigon guy: I just love the way it reproduces Interstate exit signs and gets me into the proper lane. And I think I'm going to like the new voice, not to mention TTS.

Great app just a few quirks  rating of MobileNavigator North America
By: Berbel73 - Sep 30, 2009
Version: 1.2.0
I've never used GPS before so I don't have any point of comparison but I found this app very easy to use. I found that you can use another app to add a destination to your contacts which eliminates having to enter it in. I found GPS reception to be very good and I lost signal only a few times and only for a couple of seconds. I purposefully missed a turn to see just how fast the app would reroute and it took maybe a second! The ipod controls are a really nice touch. My only complaint, and its minor, is with the voice directions. I live in Pennsylvania and the voice instead of saying the state abreviation PA it says "pa". Its kind of annoying but it just makes me wonder if it does the same for all state abreviations. Overall I would recommend this app to anyone looking for GPS just make sure you get a car charger because this app does drain the battery fast.
