As I predicted, someone would come out with a dirt cheap program that does nearly everything the big boys do. Look for the Tom Tom and Navigons to get much cheaper over the year. The only thing it lacks is downloaded maps. So it's great as long as you have cell service to cache the maps and recalculate routes. For me, in atl, it has been as efficient as a standalone. it will serve my purposes 99% of the time. The reception even works in my house. Compass, built in iPod controls, all great. Phone call interrupts, but after call it recalculated your route from wherever you are. Interface doesn't conform to specs, but is efficient to use. Utilizes traffic data to route supposedly. Haven't tested that. For $3 and 30days free Voice/3d road view, you might as well try it. Doesn't speak road names, but geez it's right there on the screen. I set mine right in front of the RPM Gage on my dash. Works great.

I have been patiently and dilligently for a good iPhone GPS app at a good price. AT&T's app is awful. Navigon, TomTom, etc., are decent apps, but way too expensive. For my money, there is no other choice than MotionX. The app is $2.99, and it will do everything that everyone seems to want out of a GPS app except turn-by-turn voice guidance and landscape mode. Pay $25 per year, and you can get the turn-by-turn. Do the math, and you can buy and use this app for 3-4 years for the same price as the others. I'm sure landscape mode is at least being considered, for those who are really stuck on that. On top of the price, MotionX just seems to work better than the others. When I tried AT&T's app, it would frequently lose track of me for minutes at a time. No such trouble with MotionX so far. This is, by a clear margin, the best GPS app out for iPhone.

How can anyone complain about this app at $2.99???? Even if it was more it is well worth it...it integrates to your contact list, has POI's. I tested this app on a known route and it pin pointed it perfectly, voice guidance was spot on. I even went off course and it recalculated...this is the only issue I had, recalculation took about 30 seconds, when you are driving that is a long time, but again, at $2.99 don't complain about this app

It seems some people take pleasure in leaving asinine ratings (eddyzay5211, kassa100)--and others--wrong information (axiom999). You're to be excused Axiom. Probably an honest mistake. You stated that the Live service is $25 monthly. It's not. It's $2.99 monthly, or $24.99 if you purchase an annual subscription. There's no excuse for the other two (and others like them who leave asinine comments, low ratings, and don't bother to give an honest assessment of an outstanding software title that, nine times out of ten, will get you from point A to point B for only THREE DOLLARS! Outstanding software MotionX!

Just installed last night. Used it this morning and it worked excellent even with my iPhone sitting on my passenger seat.Recalc works well too. Quickly makes a recalc of route when you take a different path.Timing for the voice prompts is right on time. Gives you a warning to turn before then tells you when to make the turn.Glad to see a Nav app show Tom Tom and AT&T that you don't need to charge us $200 bucks for a Nav app. Otherwise we'll just stick to our stand alone units for the same price or cheaper.Good job on this app.

I've put this app through the ringer for a few extended business trips. I elected to use my iPhone w/MotionX instead of the nav unit the rental car company tried ripping me off for ($11/day!). Great decision. MotionX routed me all over the place flawlessly -- re-routing works well and maps are current. I like how your recent destinations are archived automatically, and search is tied in naturally, which is something that other nav units tend to struggle with. Very nice all the way around. Look no further if you're looking for a TBT app. Esp for the price you will not find anything that comes close to this type of quality.

MotionX vs TomTom PND

I ran MotionX side by side with my wife's new TomTom ONE 130 (cost $110 after tax) for 3 days of driving around Denver & suburbs. MotionX matched the performance all the way, and in fact a couple times came up with a more efficient route than the TT. I was also able to figure out how to use the MotionX solution somewhat quicker than the TT, although both are fairly easy. Overall I would say the systems are fairly comparable. But when you compare the price, you could have 4+ years of service with MotionX and never have to worry about installing map updates, which is a huge advantage.

I love this app! It does everything I want, is easy to use and understand, and is accurate. My only desire is that it be easier to find destinations...I usually have to find the destination in google maps, copy the address, and paste it into MotionX. Some things are easy (like airports, and general city centers) but others not so much. However, this is minor, and the voice navigation is well worth the price.

This app works remarkably well, especially considering that it could easily replace apps at nearly $100 or hardware that costs several hundreds. I used this app both locally and while traveling on business and directly compared it to my Garmin. It was very difficult to distiquish a noticable difference except when altering the route - then the Garmin typically picked up the change more readily. BUT, GPS did reroute within several seconds of the Garmin and provided accurate redirection. Terrific APP!

I've found this app to be useful and full of cool features. I love the Search Wheel for finding POIs and the directions have all been spot on......... Also the auto switch between night and day color schemes for the 3D and 2D maps is pretty sweet. One thing I would like to see in an update is live traffic updates and alternate back road routing for when I get stuck during my daily commutes and I want to get off the highway.

This is amazing. The app is cheap, and works great even if you dont subscribe, but if you do subscribe, its amazing. the voice directions and rerouting are amazing. You can drive without even looking at the map, just listen to the voice. These guys are great, and at $24 for the year subscription, its $2 a month. That is way better than ATT's Nav for $10.
Thanks again guys. I also love the Original GPS for running and hiking. highly recommend this app with the subscription. Worth every penny.

Awesome App!! Great for driving directions. The best value out there hands down. I'd love spoken street names - this app will take another big leap forward with spoken street names. Also, for the people who can't read the app description: this app comes with 30 days of the voice guidance. If you want more after that, you can buy it anytime. It's not a subscription, you just buy it by the month or year. The app does plenty without it - when my 30 days runs up think I'm just going to use it without the voice guidance then add it if I need it. Great app even without the voice. I guess we don't teach reading in schools anymore :)

After having bought over fifty apps for my iPhone I can honestly say I have never been impressed enough to bother with a review, but this one is worth the time and trouble.I have both the stand alone Tomtom unit and the Garmin on a card for my Windows Mobile phone. This app is comparable to both and better in several ways. I intend to start using it exclusively and sell the others. Great value especially for the price.

No need to spend $90 on other apps. Just gave it a 500 mile test drive: "almost perfect." Live, up to date, real time info.Note: keep Google Maps handy for when there's heavy cloud cover. (failed on my while snowing on Rt 81 south in PA; Google Maps was my savior)Needs: an option to hear next TWO directions ahead (not just next direction) for making sure your in the right lane, etc. Use of spoken street names & route #'s would be added bonus.Didn't work: where was the traffic indicator? Was toggled to "on," but while Google Maps was reporting like a champ, this guy was AWOL. (?)You need to pay a subscription (avg $24/yr) to have the voice narration en route. Worth it to some, maybe not others.Overall, incredible.:ceek:

I don't work for these guys, so believe me when I say that this is well worth the small price. I use a TomTom for navigation (have for years) and will continue to do so. However, I don't always have my TomTom with me and that is why my test began. Being in outside sales, I went ahead and used both for a day of driving. My results: Almost exactly the same information as my dedicated navigation system plus it gives an altitude. Obviously the constraints about needing a 3G signal stinks (so if your in an unkown place and you see or hear a banjo and a crazy-eyed kid is playing it, pull that TomTom out!), but you lose signal when you're talking to someone all the time anyway! I'm not sure how the whole 3G and satellite work but just have a nav system as a back up if you decide to travel to the absolute unkown. Get the voice (free for 30 days; 2.99 a month or 20 something fir a year) it's very clear spoken. No complaints, all smiles, 1 issue I had: playing music: It worked (I love how I could pick and customize my song list). However, it was pretty buggy. Regardless, it's awesome. I wasn't going to buy a GPS app because they were stupid expensive, but bought this for fun and ended up getting a sweet addition to my beloved iPhone. Thanks for reading.

This is better than most standalone GPS's, better than any Iphone GPS. It is the perfect blend of harnessing the Iphone's capabilities with a GPS. A perfect marriage. The search feature is sooooo easy and intuitive. It's literally fun to look stuff up. It just makes sense. It makes me think that the others are gonna have to step their game up and/or drop their prices. Cuz they are probably getting bulldozed right now and exposed by MotionX. The others have suckered people with this new niche. But, once they get through the initial wave of suckers, the well will start to dry up as savvy consumers won't go for an overpriced underfeatured app. Yeah it's missing landscape and TTS. I am sure an update will fix that.

This application is absolutely phenomal. Gets you where you want to go with both visual and voice commands. Reroutes when you go a different direction than directed. Utilizes background iPod music which is great. Interuption from a phone call, No problem. Could it use some upgrading, yes, but way ahead of the pack as both an application and with a pricing model. Keep up the good work. You already have a winner.

Replaced my stolen TomTom

I recently had my very expensive TomTom GPS unit stolen from my vehicle. I have literally been lost without it, but can't afford to replace it at this time. I downloaded this APP last week and LOVE it. With the addition of a $5 vent mount for my Mercury Mariner, I have replaced my TomTom for $8.
This APP does everything my TomTom could do - but seems noticeably faster at calculating routes. The added advantage of having this APP use the data connection to find points of interest is a major advantage over TomTom. Points of interest are always up to date. TomTom never updated several businesses in my area that relocated, nor added the coffee shop down the street that opened over a year ago. (And yes, I would regularly connect my TT to the internet to update.) I've tried other GPS APPs - I found the ETA, Time Remaining, Distance remaining and heading scroll of this APP to be very useful. It was something I was used to with TT and missed with the other APPs.
I would like to see a couple of additional features in future updates if possible -
Street Name Announce (like TT and Mapquest Navigator)
Add current Vehicle Speed to the scroll rotation - this is simple math any GPS APP should be able to do
Would like to see an option to set one of the scroll elements to remain on constantly instead of scrolling through all of them

3D maps are as good as any I've seen on standalone units, and search and iPod features are better than competitors. I'm impressed with the quality and responsiveness of the app.
I tried the CoPilot app also but their maps and search are bad compared to MotionX. I also don't like the fact that you have to download a gimongous 1.3 GB app. I could fit a lot of music and pics in that amount of space on my iPhone! Also I emailed Copilot's support with a question 4 days ago and still haven't heard back. So painful... Go w/MotionX it's cheaper and better, trust me.

Fully Functional Navigation at a Reasonable Price

In short, this is a first class navigation system for the iPhone. It does almost everything my in-car GPS does when I am using a rental car! I just used it on a business trip and it got me from the airport to my meeting and back without a hitch. Spoken turn warnings are closer to the turn than with my dedicated GPS - possible inherent limitation of the iPhone GPS - but I quickly got used to it. Besides, the screen display gives you plenty of advanced warning of the next turn so you can prepare. The spoken directions do not pronounce street names and route numbers but the text is displayed on the screen. The screen is clear and uncluttered. The GPS signal seems to be quite accurate. The options for finding Points of Interest, addresses, and intersections are very conveniently layed out and complete. Oddly, searching for Norfolk Airport gave me a long list of related hits instead of the one item I needed, but browsing for Travel & Transport gives a list of airports, and that worked fine. Best of all, this fully functional navigation system only cost $2.95 for the months when you use it. No contracts, no subscriptions, no monthly charges, no obligation. You can stop looking for a navigation solution for the iPhone - this is it!
