Ignore the complainers... it works great! By: Billy-Bob Atlantis - Oct 26, 2009 Version: 1.3 Most of those lemmings who whine about the accuracy of this app fit into one of two categories: those who 1. Don't have their iPhone GPS settings already setup for position locating, and/or 2. Don't understand that a GPS-based altimeter can not be as accurate for altitude (vertical positioning) as it is for horizontal positioning. If you get it that + or - 150 feet (or so) is as pretty darn as good as can be expected for simple GPS (only) altitude, then you certainly won't be disappointed with the accuracy of myAltitude. On accuracy and repeatability, it's as good as all the other GPS-based offerings, and for free, why complain? If you want something with fancier graphics or bells and whistles, then you'll pay for it. Otherwise, what's not to like about the free version of myAltitude ? cool.
Works Flawlessly for Me! By: gyropilot - Oct 18, 2009 Version: 1.3 Just downloaded this app while on a road trip driving through mountain passes. I was just curious what our altitude was at various points on our route. I have a Kensington mount that holds my 3GS on the dash of my vehicle so it has a clear unobstructed view of the sky. This app locked on quickly and continuously displayed my altitude as we drove. Accuracy wad within 100 feet of actual (as posted on freeway mountain pass signs). The display updated every few seconds. Bottom line: No frills, works great (when your device has an unobstructed view of the sky), and the price is right!

Works fine with assistance from maps By: dandba - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.3 I tried this a couple weeks ago and it never worked. Then I read the review that it really needs to be outside for it to work properly because it needs to connect to the gps satellites. So I went outside and it still didn't work. This really meant that the Location Service still hadn't pinned my location. Next, I opened up Maps app and after forcing it to find my gps location, I went back to myAltitude and lo and behold, I got my altitude reading just fine. The app author clearly states that this app is only as good as the reliability of the data on the phone. If your iPhone hasn't locked its gps location, this app will always report 0 feet in elevation. Perhaps this is why the app is free, it relies on a pre-existing gps coordinate instead of locking in gps location itself. Once the gps signal is set, this will work flawlessly. Works on my 3G S 3.1 os. I hope this helps anyone giving this app a try and wondering why it always reports 0 feet.
