Description:
Record your path, save it to the web, and share it with friends! Path Tracker displays the distance you've traveled, elapsed time, average speed, latitude, longitude, and altitude. On PathTracks.com you can view your paths in Google Maps, export your paths as KML or GPX, and view your speed and pace at every GPS point. Perfect for recording your route while walking, running, hiking, biking, skiing, snowboarding, boating or traveling on any kind of trip. Path Tracker turns your iPhone into a speedometer, odometer, stopwatch, altimeter, GPS location tool, and training buddy. Take Path Tracker on your next walk, run, bike, or hike. More Features: + Turn off real-time maps to avoid data usage and extend battery life. + Saves your path automatically, so you can continue after a phone call. + Choose miles or kilometers. + View normal, satellite, or hybrid map. Path Tracker works best on the iPhone 3G with built-in GPS. It will not be very accurate on the original iPhone or iPod touch, which don't have built-in GPS. All updates are free. Usage Notes: * Do not lock your iPhone or turn off the screen by pressing the top button. The iPhone turns off GPS when it is locked. * Turn off auto-lock. In most cases, Path Tracker automatically disables auto-lock while it is running. However, if you receive any kind of alert (calendar alert, SMS alert, battery level warning) and do not dismiss the message, the iPhone will auto-lock and turn off GPS. To avoid this, open the "Settings" app, tap "General", tap "Auto-Lock", and select "Never". * For best battery life: Set screen brightness to lowest setting, turn real-time maps off, turn 3G off, turn WiFi off, and turn data push off. * Reboot your iPhone before starting a path to free up the most memory. After being turned on for too long, the iPhone starts to run low on application memory even if no apps are open. * Click the "Path Tracker Support" link below for more help. Thank you Apple for creating this incredible platform!

Reviews:
Great for running/biking By: iPhoneRunner - Jan 17, 2009 Version: 1.4.2 This is one of those apps that makes the iPhone so brilliant. Things I like: - seems to load quickly (other GPS apps I have seem to take a bit longer getting a GPS signal) - displays my path on a map as I'm running/biking - shows distance/avg speed/avg pace etc (which I'd expect) - one touch send to ship my path to the pathtrack.com website - one path is sent to website it shows altitude changes in graph (makes me feel better about the hills I just run up) - website shows breakdown of path into small 'chunks' so I can see distance/avg speed/avg pace etc at practically any point in my run - can share data easily with my running partner simply by sending the url to the path on the website (or I can download using a cpl of different formats for Google Maps etc....not that I've actually tried that) Only shows last path on the iPhone itself....but viewing stats on the website is easier anyway.
Version 1.1 Review By: dizfanfamily - Dec 29, 2008 Version: 1.4.2 I waited for the updated and was rewarded. The functions of this app are what I have been looking for in app store for a long time. I wanted path tracking with distance info at a reasonable price. This app delivers. I put path tracker multiple tests last night and my results are below, alone with some suggested items for the app. Don’t be suckered by reviews by iPod touch and first gen iPhone users, GPS apps simply do not work well on those devises. If you don’t have GPS don’t buy a GPS intensive app and expect it to magically upgrade your older device to perform tasks that it was never intended to do. Also don’t be fooled by reviewers who down-loaded the first version of the app (the developer advised you to wait). All in all the app is great and at $0.99 it is tough to beat. Small-scale test: Used it to track my path in my back yard. --PASSED First readings were off a bit, but the longer the app was running the more accurate the results. Initially the track was off center on the map (although it accurately represented the path taken), but a few minutes after my walk it placed the path in the correct position. Over all I was impressed for such a small tracking footprint. Driving test: Used to tack driving path to local park. -- PASSED I compared the app’s distance to odometer, and they were very similar (4.7 miles car odometer vs. 4.675 in app). In some places, the track showed me cutting corners on the map. However, I’m not sure if the map is inaccurate or if it is the GPS (Google maps are not perfect, in hybrid view they often show roads running through buildings). Longer walk test: -- PASSED Walked a measured mile and a half, the app was very accurate even tracking some of our off trail explorations. Suggestions: 1) I would like to be able to take pictures will the app is running. Geo-tagging and the like are not necessary (keep it simple). I just want to be able to take a picture for later updating. 2) Battery saving mode. I don’t need to see the map/track, I trust that the app is working; being able turning off the screen could help with battery life. 3) Track saving. I would like to be able to save my track for latter review. I would be happy with either local save or by e-mail. 4) Pause on main screen. If you are worried about accidental pause, make it a two touch or slide function. Can’t wait to see what the updates have in store for users.
Amazing application By: Tri-trainer - Aug 19, 2008 Version: 1.2 The reviews for this app are very inaccurate...from reading through them, all of the bad reviews are from previous versions that didn't work very well. I purchased this application yesterday and immediately went on a 13.3 mile bike ride, then uploaded my path to my account and did a 2.3 mile run. The application worked flawlessly on both workouts and I am incredibly happy with it. I told myself that I wouldn't buy apps from the app store and that I would just stick to the free ones. However, this application was worth the purchase, I'm glad I bought it!!! Keep up the great work.
Beyond my expectations By: DuckTunes - Oct 1, 2008 Version: 1.4.2 As a recent transplant from LA to NY, this is a really exciting app. I work in the West Village and the streets are really confusing. I have found several restaurants and bars and shops I want to go back to, but always have a hard time finding them again. I am using this app to track my journeys and it is really cool. It gets a bit wonky when I get on the subway, but I understand there is no way for the satellites to penetrate through the ground into the tunnels. I love that I can export a kml file from pathtracks.com and import into google maps to put pins on the locations I want to revisit and then send it to my iPhone. This app is an incredible bargain for 0.99USD.
Excellent app, does exactly what it says it does By: shelmart - 21-Sep-2009 Version: 1.4.2 I echo the opinion of reviewers who don't understand why some people are trashing this app -- in my opinion, it does NOT deserve the criticism! I've actually had it for a year, bought it shortly after I got my phone and was in a mad frenzy trying a ton of different apps. I forgot about it until recently, when I was looking for an app that would record details re distance, average speed, and miles/hour of my cycling trips; Path Tracker does precisely that -- and also allows me to upload my paths to its website, where I can add notes and share the paths with other people. I've used it a few times now, including during two car trips in order to see how closely it calibrated to the odometer and speedometer on the car (very closely). I've used it on a couple of bike trips in slightly remote areas in Canada, and it performed perfectly. I highly, highly recommend it. I agree with the reviewer who said it would make more sense to have the Pause/Continue button on the main screen - perhaps the developer will consider this in the next update.
This is one of my favourite applications on the iPhone. By: Stridewinder - 27-Aug-2008 Version: 1.2 With the release of version 1.2, I've upgraded my review to 5 stars. This application is so useful! It maps your path in real-time, and keeps track of your distance, speed etc. Other (more expensive) applications require you to suspend the tracking function before you can view your path on a map. You can zoom in/out and reposition the map, but doing so is slower than using the normal iPhone map - so be patient. This application definitely works Australia, and with a high degree of accuracy on my 3G iPhone. I am also pleased to see that locking the iPhone does not affect the tracking function - and makes for economical battery usage. The new version of this allows you to save your trip details to the Path Tracker website. From your free login you can then view the trip details, share them with friends, or download as a KML or GPX file. This is a great little application for monitoring your hiking, running etc. It lets you see where you've been, how fast you went, and how far you travelled. For an application costing around $1, it's terrific value for money.

My fav nav app By: adyblain - 13-Sep-2008 Version: 1.4.1 After being updated, this app is very good now. A simple interface, a great tracking tool that you can view on the phone with maps, or on the internet. I've tried many of the others, but displays the map and the path I took in the coolest way. I use it to track my pleasure rides on my motorbike. At 0.99, it's very well priced, and the developer is very quick to respond. I just want to use it all the time just for kicks. Nice app!
Works perfectly for me By: Robphoto - Jul 2, 2009 Version: 1.4.2 Not sure why others had problems except that they may have outdated versions of this App as well as outdated iPhone software. I ran it today for the first time to track my trip home from work and it worked perfectly and showed the map and elevation on the web site. I also made a quicklink on my phone so I can directly see the maps on my phone after the route is done. I think people also need to follow the directions. It is important that the phone not go into shutoff sleep mode, so you need to disable that in settings to the "never" setting and then turn the brightness of the display as low as possible to preserve battery.

This program works great! By: BluePatrol - Sep 16, 2008 Version: 1.4.1 This is one great program. I have used this program a couple times now and I compared it to my friend's portable Garmin GPS unit (the one you wear on your wrist). It was pretty much dead on with correct mileage, time, and pace. I cannot tell you how happy I get when the bike ride is over and I get see my route on a map. It’s really cool to see how I ride through a forest preserve cutting back and forth through the little trails. You can also post you path on their site for others to see. This is totally worth 99 cents.
This is the BEST navigations app! By: byron92806 - Sep 8, 2008 Version: 1.4 I am a iphone apps junkie. I have tried the other navigation apps and this has been the app. It has given me the most consistent and usable results. Plus the fact that you can view your tracks on pathtracks.com make it a complete navigation app for the iphone. I held off making a review because the earlier versions were a work in progress. Now the latest version 1.4 and the added features when viewing the posted maps make this a great tool and should be on your iphone.
Path Tracker is the way to go By: charliec61 - Sep 8, 2008 Version: 1.4 After trying several different navigation apps, and buying the GPS kit, my assessment is that Path Tracker, works the best of the lot for simple tracking. It seems to take a bit of power, so don't expect many hours of operation, but other than that it's great. The tracked paths are easy to upload, and you know when it has worked, and view them is a snap. This software is a bargain compared to other nav apps.
Excellent for $.99 By: skiphunt - Sep 6, 2008 Version: 1.4 Took awhile to get used to pausing and continue, etc. But after I started turning the brightness all the way down... the app didn't use nearly as much battery juice. Like the latest upgrades... and still very much looking for "Maximum Speed". How hard could that be? I would guess the app has to use the top speed anyway to calculate "average speed". Why not just report top speed so that I can see the fastest I went on my bike or run? Bottom line is... the app is solid and very much worth $.99. Recommended.
This is a Great App By: Bobby1208 - Sep 6, 2008 Version: 1.4 I use this app every day and love it. The last two updates have made it even better. It is the only gps app that tracks you and actually shows the track on a map, not just a big line in space. This app is worth way more than what they are charging. Bonus: You can make Geo Art and submit it. I have tried most of the GPS apps and this is my favorite. All bad reviews are from the first release. This is now a 5 star app! P.S. I made a huge Anarchy sign using this app and uploaded it to Apptracker.com. Coolest thing I have ever done.
this is my favorite app By: jasontobias - Oct 26, 2009 Version: 1.4.2 I'm pretty sure people who give this a low rating aren't using it correctly. I was out at Joshua Tree national park and I kept the path tracker on the entire time. Even though I had no internet, when I came back and reconnected, all the places I had been synced up perfectly with the map of the area. I had gone very far of the main trail, and was able to locate specific rock formations I had visited on the sattelite map- so cool. In the end i was able to apply my map data to the map I had been following and now I have a very clear view of the area I was exploring. I plan to use this on all my hikes from now on. Very cool app- makes the iphone extremely useful.
Works perfectly for me By: Robphoto - Jul 2, 2009 Version: 1.4.2 Not sure why others had problems except that they may have outdated versions of this App as well as outdated iPhone software. Pretty useful By: Twitcho8 - Aug 29, 2008 Version: 1.2 I find this app to be pretty useful. I am sorry for all those other people that seem to be having problems. Everytime I use this app it works exactly as described. It has always saved my entire path. I use it mostly while running in the woods so it Is not perfectly acurate but that Is the signal quality not the app. The distance is usally very close to what it actually is. The only thing I wish it did was take points more often. This app is way better than the $3 app that tells you your pace and distance because it makes a map and let's you pause it which Is very nice.
