Reviews:
Pissed and then Happy!!! By: SgtFreddyFred - Aug 21, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 I can see why all of the bad write up are written. I felt the same way after the first day that I got it. I tested it out going to work, and 40+ miles out of 67 miles, it was searching for signal. Then I read the support and emailed for a refund. But after the report, I turned my location off for 20 seconds, and I reseted my network settings. Then when I went home from work, it worked perfect. The support staff is GREAT, they responded to my emails the same day. I actually love this app, and would recommend it to EVERYBODY. You just need to make sure that your phone is at window level to get a good sat reception and it will work perfect.
best gps so far By: guitardedhero - Aug 20, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 im giving this 5 stars simply because it is the best by Far of the other gps iphone apps. ive purchased all of them to find the best. sygic was my first purchase followed by navigon, igo, att nav, copilot, and tomtom. i had huge hopes for tomtom after the others after sygic failed to compete. sygic kills tomtom.
all i want from sygic is more street names on display and text to speech for street names during the route. sygic is definitely on top (still) just wanted to wait for tomtom before writing this sygic review...
The verdict is in.... The people have spoken! By: anthony98 - Jul 24, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 I think it would be too easy to make a lot of people happy if you read every complaint as a tool for sucess and complete these tasks quickly and effectively. With gps being so over done,... There is little excuse to put out a product that is essentially not ready enough to be used in real world scenerios. It's great if you have time to play around with it, to go to google maps to get an address to a location, memorize or write down the address and type the info into your app so we can emotionally or intellectually justify what we wanted to believe was a end all be all investment in gps on the iPhone. ($80) give and take. Perhaps app creators would be more inclined to pursue excellence and go the extra mile if the people demanded and was awarded prompt refunds when an app costs so much and has to be updated in order to be justified. Perhaps we are all suckers to have purchased the app so soon when it wasn't up to par,... But I'm an investor and I placed my bets on the idea that this product for the price,... Has To Be The Best!!!! And with the amount of complaints I've read thus far,... The blueprint to making this app the best is clear and the verdict is in. Things require patience (I understand this). We'll have to see what the near future brings for this app! I'm hopeful (unless I can get refunded until the official update(s) are released)!
I pray we all won't have to wait one month or longer.
Great App!!! By: dltang - Jul 19, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 I just downloaded this program last night. This is fantastic!!. It does everything I need it to do in a GPS and even a bit more. I really like that when I take a route different than the suggested route it doesn't contantly nag me to make a U-turn or tell me it is recalculating. It just makes the recalculation and then goes back to giving me the correct directions to get to my destination. I haven't used it for any long trips yet, obviously but it is faster than my Lowrance XOG and appears to be every bit as accurate as my husbands Garmin. I use this when I am out riding on my motorcycle and now I only have to have one gadget for everything, I highly recommend this program. Especially for this price, I don't see how you can go wrong.
Excellent App!! By: Sentalia - Jul 18, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 I bought this app and tried it out for the first time today. Excellent! Great graphics. Fast response and updating of route information. The voice instructions were clear with the option to select from several voices and languages. The GPS signal lock was very fast. Usually only a few seconds with my iPhone 3G. The only downer was the amount of memory needed to install. I needed to free up about 3.5GB of space before the app would download to the phone even though the app consumes about 1.6GB. But, afterwards I reclaimed the space and put my music/videos back. This app is well worth the $79. I travel a lot and usually rent a Garmin from Avis for $15 per day. Now, I can use my iPhone!
Highly recommended! By: Monctonguy - 29-Sep-2009 Version: 7.71.4 Update: Installed 7.71.4 with Text with speech and very impressed so far ..thumbs UP. Very happy I bought this program. I got my Iphone hooked up to my aux on my car deck and play my ipod on my stereo and use my GPS at the same time. The music will fade out when the gps has to make a voice prompt..I love it! Also a trick I never knew about this until Sygic replied back to me , while your listening to your IPOD and you have to change the song on your ipod(while your gps is running), double click your home button really quick and it will bring up the ipod control to forward to the next song and press close to go back to sygic. I really cannot think of another thing to improve except maybe have the voice commands to be a little louder ( I even turned it up while it was speaking and it went loud but every time after , I still have to manually turn it up). Maybe sygic should program it to make sure its defaulted loud all the time so we don't have to manually turn it up all the time. Note to the other users having problems with TTS: Make sure you have it set on "English US (Heather) TTS" or "English US (Ryan) TTS" to get text to speech. It does not do text to speech on Lucien or Simon ..must be something to do with the TTS technology. ********************************************************************************************* I found that sygic is not that bad as what the other reviews are being said like useless? It still announces to turn in so many meters or feet and I find that the graphics are really clear and highlights with the green arrow to turn. The voice is really clear and understandable. Besides that I wish they would improve thier route calculations as cottoneyedjoe said..it will still get you to your destination but there could be a more efficient way to get there. I find there is no perfect gps out there but if sygic keeps on improving and listening to thier customers I believe sygic can be the #1gps for iPhone! And so far by the reviews for tomtom,it does not seem to impress me..I'm glad to use sygic.
Not bad but... By: Gypsy Thor - Nov 30, 2009 Version: 7.71.4 Well after a long dl and even longer install I was ready to give sygic a work out. I live in a tricky neighbor hood and sygic got me there without a hitch. The speed was pretty accurate and so were the voice prompts. The only problem I have is that the app doesn't find any gas stations from work to home along a 53 mile route so where do I stop for gas lol. Will give it another work out over the next couple of days and see what happens with the update, but with gas stations not showing up and me on a motorcycle I might have to pass on this app

Very Convenient and Accurate By: vhalicious - 21-Oct-2009 Version: 7.71.4 I can't believe Colliewood and Zadigre could only give this app 1 star rating! They don't even give justice to this app at all. Ridiculous ratings! They should not be allowed to rate anything at all because they don't seem to know how it works. This app is so easy to use and so cheap you can't go wrong with it. It also has a really fast sattelite signal acquisition unlike stand alone gps. I have tomtom, garmin and magellan gps...well, I only have the garmin now because my dad uses magellan and the tomtom has to be returned today because I find it unattractive. I gotta say that I am very impressed by this app and it's definitely on par with garmin and magellan when it comes to navigation. It even has more options/features compared to standalone gps. And most importantly, it's on my phone so I can take it anywhere with me in my pocket. Very convenient.Note: Be fair and learn how to rate properly!

Great app!!! A must have GPS!!! By: gelynne111903 - Sep 11, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 Only problems are:
1. TTS should have street names
2. POI sometime can't be found
3. Some places can't be found like the Morongo casino here in California which was built here for years
4. Sometimes it makes me exit the wrong one ( driving on the freeway to Las Vegas out in the desert and it wanted me to exit when there's not even an exit street at all... That was funny coz' i wouldn't have exited anyways... )
Other than these everything else is perfect...
The most accurate maps available By: Mr. Rogers1 - Aug 27, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 Besides Sygic, I have purchased Gokivo, AT&T, Navigon, "i go", and TomTom . After many hours of testing each app, I have concluded that Sygic has the most consistent maps available. tomtom comes in second. I typed in the same address and compared Navigon with Sygic. Navigon repeatedly kept asking me to get off the freeway to get to my destination, which was at least 15 miles away. Sygic however, directed me to the fastest route available. Tomtom proved pretty consistent except for a couple of times directing me in the opposite direction. TomTom seemed to open faster than the others, Sygic came in maybe a second later. i go was so long, I disconnected the app and had to choose another. I will be glad when a female voice is added to Sygic (tts also). Also, customer service is great. I have never had better service when sending an email for questions. I sent an email asking a question about how the upcoming update at night around 1:00 a.m. By 9 a.m. I received a response. I then asked another question and got an answer within 2 minutes. I wonder how many other of these companies are as considerate to consumers as Sygic is. I can't give five stars because the update has come out yet, of which I am expecting text to speech.
Functional, it will get you there... By: Tiz59 - Jul 31, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 I ran a test around town today after downloading this app, and it worked great. GPS was up before I left my driveway, and it correctly got me to several POI's. (I have an IPhone 3G) No, it isn't as fluid and feature rich as my stand alone GPS unit, (Navigon 5300max) but more than adequate for finding your way. I travel frequently and I always have my IPhone with me, so convenience is what I'm looking for. US, Canada, and Mexico maps plus POI's, road speed (nice to have if you are unfamiliar with the road), and upcoming highway signs all in one unit are well worth $80 to me... I'll keep packing my stand alone GPS for backup, but will try this app this week as I travel and will re-post how it works. (3 states this week) Update (7/31/2009): I have used this app. this week in: Atlanta, Chicago, and St. Louis, it worked great for me in all locations. After getting off a plane and into a car, Sat. link took less than 1 minute, and navigation got me everywhere I asked it to. (Hint: turn on your phones location service before you try to get a sat link) Overall, I am very pleased with this application!
Pretty Good, but not Quite There By: Warthog97 - Jul 25, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 This is a really good piece of kit and worth the money. HOWEVER, there are bugs that keep it from getting a 5 star rating. First issue: every now and then the map and vioce prompt give different instructions. For instance, there were two times where the voice prompt said "GO STRAIGHT" when the map showed a right turn. In another instance, the voice prompt first instructed me "IN 900 YARDS, TURN LEFT", the next voice prompts correctly told me to "TURN RIGHT". So far, in all cases where the map and the voice prompts differed, the map was correct. Second Issue: The software sometimes will not recalculate a good route and instead insist on turning around or back tracking to the oiginal route. This may be more of a data base error showing lower than legal traffic speeds on 'the back way' and may not be an actual bug. Third Issue: I would like to see the search feature offer a 'freestyle' search like the google map has. I was in the DC area this week and wasn't aware that my hotel and even the airport were actually in Aexandria. I was unable to correctly find my POIs because I used the POI search and thought they were in DC. The google search actually found the POIs much faster and more accurately. So why did I rate this as a 4 Star? The database is insanely detailed. The software has the traffic circle in my neighborhood and it even has a small traffic divider and tells me to 'keep right'. The database is amazingly detiled and accurate. Once they make the search engine easier to use and correct the voice/map disconnect and this is the only turn by turn direction software you'll ever use.
Good enough for me to get rid of my stand-alone GPS unit! By: macgirl.net - Jul 24, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 Overall, I'm very happy with this app. It's not perfect, but it does exactly what I need it to do. I always have my iPhone 3GS with me and this app makes my TomTom Go 720 GPS unit completely unnecessary. I'd like to see a few things in the next version, including contacts integration and some interface tweaks to fully utilize the iPhone's touch interface and standard gestures. Pros: Good smooth graphics Reliable and accurate route guidance Quick re-routing Freeway lane guidance Tells you what side of the street your destination is on, albeit a little late Doesn’t make my iPhone hot Battery usage more reasonable than expected Map browsing doesn’t require data connection Handy extras built-in Cons: Can’t choose destinations from existing contacts Call button in POI detail screen usually grayed out No battery level indicator aside from low battery warning Backing out of POI detail screen takes you back to map, not previous POI list Does not use standard iPhone keyboard Does not use standard iPhone touch gestures Like other iPhone apps, not 100% stable
Much Improved After Update!! By: EvenStephen2000 - Jul 18, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 I'm not sure what the whiners (a couple in particular, it's not hard to find them) are talking about. Unless you're in a steel-padded basement, it gets a signal just fine and it re-routes pretty quickly in my experience. In fact, I purposely took some different turns to test that out and it quickly re-routed me correctly. I haven't tried every POI but the few I've looked for were found, when they weren't there previously. My biggest complaint in my first review was the POI issue and they have improved that. I do hope they continue to monitor that, though They seem very customer-oriented and listen to our feedback so I feel confident that they will keep improving as they can. I agree that $80 is a lot of money, especially in today's economy. But this is a turn-by-turn, voice guided GPS on your phone! It's not an app created in someone's basement! I think it takes some time to get used to it, so if you buy this, or any huge app, plan on it taking a bit to learn. I'm glad I bought it. I also have X-Road and like that app as well. Although, I like the potential that this one has because it feels just like your standard GPS and everything is in one app.
Missing? By: TheOrioles33 - Jul 18, 2009 Version: 7.71.2 So where the heck are restaurants under POI?!!!! Updated review. App works much better after update. POI's are updated with restaurants and gas stations. MUCH better. Someone left a review saying it took 10 minutes to get a GPS signal. News flash, its your phone!!! I get almost a full instant signal from within my car. I will tell you one thing, this is better than my Garmin nuvi 200 by far!
some flaws but overall works good By: wazuri77 - Jul 14, 2009 Version: 7.71 The application worked relatively well when i used it going to Los Angeles from the Bay Area. However, I noticed the route wasn't the easiest and fastest (compare to the google map printout) when I made it to the LA area. I also got lost trying to find my hotel. The voice prompts were several seconds late and I would pass up streets etc and had to backtrack. Also, the rerouting wasn't the quickest. The unit also takes forever to lock on to your location initially. I'm sure this could be due to the GPS chipset in the iPhone 3G. The graphics are real good etc. Really should be able to search for POIs etc. That is sorta annoying and the UI isn't intuitive; too many steps!
Missing one thing for the fifth star By: Raziel1984 - Jul 12, 2009 Version: 7.71 The layout the features and straight-forward are easy to use. However, add the ability to search through my contacts when prompted (e.g. when you select "Navigate to..." have "Contacts" or "Search" on the next screen) and you'll get the fifth star. Trying it real time today and all I have to say is, so far so good. Also, for those of you who aren't aware how GPS software works, apps like these require maps to be downloaded to the phone which has it's up's and down's (pro - maps are there unconditionally; con - takes about 1.5GB). Since I have a 16GB and have yet to fill it, this is no issue for me, but just letting others be aware so they don't wonder where all the free space went LOL
Very Sound So Far By: Waz41 - Jul 6, 2009 Version: 7.71 I have been waiting for this type of App for a while so instead of waiting it out for the reviews I went for it. I was not at all happy with AT&T s $9.99 fee or Tom Tom's never coming out App with an equipment purchase so I figured this was the way to go. After figuring out that the volume in my ipod had to be turned up,the voice was much louder than I anticipated, I find it to run as fast if not faster then telenav on my previous Blackberry phone. So far the accuracy around town is outstanding. A few tweaks (goodies like additional voices etc.) and this will be the standard for GPS Turn by Turn Voice Guided Navigation.
