I've a tomtom 930 and the iPhone 3gs both working side by side here in France and both are working perfect , in fact the option to rotate the iPhone is great , you can see further up the road and the screen resolution really adds to a better visual experience . As yet no option to put the gps cordinates if you have them. Other wise very easy to use and very acurate as the stand alone version.I really like this and think you could relie on it , it needs external power . And looks so much cooler than the other gps system out there , go iPhone Tomtom .

.... For apps like this! Works great and it's on my phone!! What's not to like? when its sitting in my speedo area, gps picks up fine and I can hear the voice commands perfectly! Will be even better when I get a proper holder but until then I'm happier than a pig in s@#t !!! Some people are just angry and want to whinge!! PS - go to Clinton cards and buy the 2x£15 iTunes cards for £20. Cheaper!!!!

I have been waiting for this application since I got my first iPhone over 2 years ago and it's finally come, the UI is great and works brilliant on the iPhone. After demoing tomtoms for my old job and also having a tomtom on a PDA I expected this app to be the same, but it is so much better, the quick redirect the great search options and more. You just can't go wrong. People will say that this app is dear but for the whole of europe and hopefully regular updates of roads it will be worth it in the long run. Just one more thing, the gps is very quick and I see no need the buy the tomtom car unit, it is as if the iPhone is now complete. Thank you tomtom you have made my day, week, year with this application.

Installed yesterday and been playing with it ever since. Works flawlessly. Loads of POIs. After using google maps for the last year, takes a little while to get used to the user interface, but it's pretty intuitive. Told me about all the speed cameras on the way to work. Although charger was plugged in for drive to work, battery was half run down by the time I arrived (40 min drive). Screen was on for whole time and so was wifi, so that won't have helped. Voice commands still work when screen in standby which is v useful. Car mount looks good, alhough I hope it has an option for vent mounting as well as suction.

Routes from the UK through France, Belgium and into Germany in a flash.

Downloaded this app yesterday, no issues what so ever, GPS works beautifully in my BMW car phone cradle (gets a boost from the car areal?) Routes me from home to the Nurburgring much much faster than the family tomtom Go and with the iphone screen graphics are much clearer. A fully working Western European GPS guidance system in my pocket all the time - you would be mad not to consider this app! Many of times ive struggled with the Maps app while driving or while directing friends (touching the screen every min or so etc) this will save me so much stress and the safety of other road users!
Im sure Tomtom will update this app with all the little things we take for granted in the stand alones but till then its money well spent!

1st time I have written a review but felt this deserved it. Of course it's not cheap but once you've loaded it up and used it, you'll have no regrets. Looks very clear and is simple to use, gps lock seems 2 be pretty quick and stable too (though car kit will boost this if you have extra £120). Overall Its the best nav system available by a long way. No doubt over time they will build in the traffic alerts and other bolt ons which will only make it better.

This app works perfectly and seems to get a good gps fix even without the optional tom tom car kit. It has full postcode search and is as good as the basic tom toms. I have a garmin aswell but this seems much easier to follow. It loads very quickly. The only current issue is that it can't run whilst taking a phone call. However I think this is a limit of the iPhone at the moment. Buy it! You won't be dissapointed!!!

Having bought the cheep and cheerful Co-Pilot a week ago and been disappointed, I was hoping for more from the long awaited TomTom Navigation App. I'm really pleased to say that this is exactly what I got!.
While it has a few shortcomings, namely the lack of Live services and generally a lower feature list than the stand alone unit's, the software boots up quickly, seems to get a great lock on it's location and generally navigates in exactly the way you would expect any modern TomTom device to work.
While the price may seem steep, I guess that it is a classic case of you get what you pay for!!. If this is the launch product, imagine where it will be in a few months time after a couple of updates and the new In-Car kit...
I wholly recommend that you purchase this item if you are looking for a navigation app, that works as you would like it too!.

Beautifully implemented and true to their original standalone GPS satnav devices. Considering it's on a phone, it's disappointing that they haven't implemented live traffic info. I was also surprised that they don't have the street name read-aloud functionality available. Nevertheless, what is available can't be faulted. Hopefully Apple will also update the iPhone OS so that an incoming call doesn't necessarily interrupt the Tomtom software from navigating you.

Finally, it's here. I've spend the day driving around and testing it out. All in all, I'm very happy with it. Sometimes it takes a while to grab hold of a decent GPS signal but when it does, it works absolutely fine with no lags/difficulties. It's true that sometimes it can't recognise the addresses in my address book but when you agree to do it manually, most of the information to be completed is already in the fields so it's just a case of progressing through each stage. If you're like me and like the 2D view with the arrow always pointing north, you'll have to turn the "2D Map North Up" to OFF (not ON). Guess TomTom got that backwards. All in all, I'm pleased with it. I still need to buy a windscreen mount so with the amount I'll be spending on this app + mount, I COULD have bought a TomTom One instead ... but where's the fun in that? :•)

At last the iphone is finally beginning to join the dots between the internet, your own address book, and now your sat nav too! We can at last do a google search for a hotel (or pluck the data from an email), create a contact from it and then ask Tomtom to guide us there!
If the map data is as comprehensive at their standalone unit data then we really are on to a winner..... Hurry up with the cradle please!
Only one thing. Every time you exit the app it forgets where you were going. That means if you answer the phone, or a text message, you have to relaunch the app again and then it needs to be reprogrammed. Not much use if you are trying to drive! Tomtom needs to be able to automatically go back to being a sat nav unit after a call... or better still, answer the call in the background and remain as a sat nav during the call.

My initial impressions are very favourable. I have owned a number of TomTom stand alone units and used TomTom on Windows mobile devices. This application, together with the amazing iPhone user interface beats them all. Quite simply, it's the best TomTom I have ever used. Route calculation is quicker than my TomTom XL and it has all the features you would expect.
I know a lot of people have been frustrated because of the delay in releasing this application. Well the wait is now over and it's here! If you want the best Sat Nav application, don't wait any longer, just go and buy it.

.I WOULD RECCOMEND A CAR LIGHTER CHARGER AND CONNECTION U CAN GET FROM PC WORLD OR OTHER STORES TO KEEP THE BATERY ON YOUR I PHONE ALIVE AS IT EATS UP JUICE...

I MUST start this review by saying that the people who have said this application only deserves 1 star, possibly have unrealistic expectations. I have used a TomTom before & found that the lane guidance is really useful. I used it yesterday in a new town I have never visited before & to be fair if you read the signs and do not rely solely on an application – you can figure it out!!
In terms of battery life, yes – I cannot wait for the “Dock” to come to market. However I discovered, by accident, if you push the button on the top of the phone (to lock it) that the visuals turn off & the voice continues. This seemed to extend the battery life.
I drove for 2 hours, with the screen on, and still had sufficient power to complete everything I needed to do.
I have tried the application on roads I know (Yes, I bought it & went out for a drive!!) and roads I didn’t. I was really impressed that the maps were updated enough to route me the correct way through a new, in progress, road layout a few miles away.
This application, in my view, can only get better.
The things I would like to see are;
The dock being released soon!
Lane guidance
User updatable maps
It’s pretty good, solid, reasonable first effort. Well done!

Like most I have been after this app for a long time, and it's as good as I expected, iv have the same tomtom go500 for 4 years, I ran them side by side for a 2hr trip and they were spot on, As for the price, yes I would have liked it to be a little less but when you think it costs £50 to update the maps on my go500 it's not all that bad, Battery life has been said to be very poor. Well iv never had a satnav running from it's battery so I wouldn't run the iPhone in the car without a charger. Added bonus- when paired to a parrot 9200 hands free kit you get the voice instructions through the car speakers * after using this app since it came out (now 12thsept09) I'm very pleased, I travel about 1000 miles a week and use this app for every trip, i think the only bad point is the wait for the holder*

Am astonished how good this app is. Living in London, I've just used it to drive to two weddings, at opposite ends of England, and without it I would never have "made it to the church on time"! I'm using a year-old 3G iPhone, perching it on the dashboard near the clock until a car kit becomes available. Almost no GPS reception issues, just one occasion when stuck in traffic under an avenue of trees but that was automatically rectified the moment I was in the open. Similarly driving through tunnels was not an issue, the GPS locked back on the instant I emerged at the other end. The GPS lock was very accurate, the on-screen map always accurately reflecting my position along the road, and the position of (most) speed cameras along the way, along with always showing you the current maximum speed limit. If I decided to take a different route, the software was very quick to notice and recalculate the journey based on where I was - that ability alone makes the software infinitely more useful than struggling along with Google Maps, as I used to do.
Powering your iPhone through the car's cigarette/charging socket is essential, particularly for the long (5+hours) journeys I've just done, as keeping both the screen and the GPS on for long periods seriously drains the battery. I use a simple Belkin iPhone charging cable. One thing I found was that the phone would not charge if the car's aircon was also running - switching that off provided instant power to the phone. And cycling the phone off & on before setting off helps keep things snappy.

Outstanding, simply the best. I am using iphone 3GS 16GB, have purchased the application yesterday, was using today from 4 o’clock in the morning. GPRS locked fast. I live in Sutton, was travelling to London. Calculate and recalculate the roads very fast. Most of the speed cameras was spotted. Was using it in very heavy rain, I have had no problem what so ever. I have got no idea why others making complain. My suggestion will be to all, download the application to your PC or Mac to your iTunes library and then synchronies with your iphone. After you have install application to your devise simply restart the iphone.

Fantastic buy and worth the money. However, it does need the Tomtom cradle (coming soon) to fully benefit from it's potential. Also, when the Tomtom App is navigating a journey, the battery will unfortunately discharge itself slightly, even if you plug it into the car charger at the start of the trip. This glitch can be solved by turning the brightness of the iPhone down in the settings to around 20-30%, it is still very clear. Also, the other glitch of the iPhone going into sleep mode while navigating can be solved by pressing the iPhone home button and reopening the Tomtom App and selecting your trip once again from the 'recent' list. It's a bit of hasttle and something that Tomtom should really sort with an update. It is still worth the money and I love it! Accurate 'live traffic updates' with intellegent re-navigation would leave all competion for Tomtom way behind.

Contacts don't work. But pretty good otherwise

Ok: now tried this over a period of days in Spain. Upped the rating by one star to 4. Still getting poor gps and loss of signal fustratingly near important junctions, but cardle should sort. The biggest downfall are the maps. There must have missed a number of updates as I have found that some roads are not built yet and some roads are missing. POI's are irregular in their accuracy so far. Live really needs adding at this price. Previous listing. Good once you are going. The gps is mostly ok, but the cradle will help this when released. Contacts don't seem to work. Sure this will be sorted soon (better be at this price). May be a UK thing? Will test in Europe tomorrow
