I think it's unfair to give a 1 star rating. Sure it took a few start ups to work properly, but once it got started it offered an elegant interface with multiple services to choose from. Granted I don't use most of them, but buddy beacon and gas buddy are particularly useful. The Starbucks locator is good if you're into that sort of thing.
I'm not saying it's actually a 5 star app, but giving it 1 star because you're too much of a moron to restart your iPhone or try again to start up the app is just immature. Apps have only been out for a few days. Give the developers some time to work out the bugs.

This app is a great and handy app and definitely worth the price tag of free. It has a nice and easy to use interface. GPS reading is right on the money and was only off by a couple of houses. It's great being able to see the weather, closest wifi hotspot, news headlines, and not to mention the money saving cheapest area gas station function. People are complaining about the adds, but this is a FREE app, what would you expect? I have no problems closing out the adds and consider them a minimal inconvenience compared to the usefulness of this app.

I've used several apps while traveling and liked most of them but this one is phenomenal! It locates, hotels, gas stations, restaurants and Costco! But the best part of it is the ability of it to name geographical points around your location! It is data intensive so it takes some time to load up over 3G but amazingly enough it shows silhouettes of the mountains around you and names them as you pan around! You'll love this app.

This app is very useful because it shows you great bits of information that is dynamically updated as you are moving (or driving). It shows you the closest gas station and how much the gas prices are, which is very helpful when you are in an area that you are not familiar with. Also shows you traffic information on nearby roads, closest starbucks and whether it has Wi-fi at that location, local weather, yelp reviews of restaurants nearby, and movie showtimes... It's an overall easy to use comprehensive app that helps you find a lot of information very quickly.

I have no idea why this app is getting bad reviews BASED ON ADDs on the app. That's idiotic, they have to pay for it...it is a free app afterall. This app is awesome! It takes your current location and gets The gas prices,free wifi,movies,stores,traffic,local events within a 10 mile radius. U don't have to worry about finding the lowest gass price or your movie time or traffic it finds it fonyou! Plus it's connected to YELP so u stay connected to everything in your city! It has directions as well so this app is my new fav. Try it out for yourself and be the judge, these reviews in Herr are biased and based on bs. I learned that the hard way!

This is a great, useful app that will probably get even better!

I was surprised to see negative reviews-- until I realized they hadn't been able to open the program. It worked fine for me, so I'm not sure what was going on there.
It's got a bunch of useful location-based things, and some that aren't useful but are cool. Locations of gas stations (although the database seemed incomplete, but I expect that will improve over time), starbucks (whatever, some people go there), restaurants on Yelp (my neighborhood had 8), and a way to tell which mountains you are looking at on the horizon (!!!?). It won me over with the "skymap".... which shows you what the stars look like in each direction and which constellations you're looking at......

WHERE Reviews! Awesome!

WHERE just keeps getting better and better. While I like the improvements to the Weather widget (and I'm going to let it finish), the new WHERE Reviews widget may be the greatest feature of all time! I am absolutely in love with how easy it is to rate my favorite places on WHERE, be it a restaurant or a beach resort or even the home of my favorite sports team. WHERE Reviews is almost as fun and addictive as WHERE Connect!

A lot of the bad reviews were due to initial mass downloading of this app. Over the past couple days I've seen the app work better and better. Hopefully more establishments get online with Where, because the potential is enormous. GasBuddy is wonderful, and will help immensely on my upcoming vacation. I see this app becoming a lot more powerful with each update. Definitely worth the download!

WHERE is a fantastic app for the iPhone. It performs great, is beautifully designed and laid out, and sports tons of useful features and functionality. WHERE makes it a breeze to always know what's around me and where my friends are at. My favorite WHERE functions so far are the built-in Yelp and Eventful capabilities. I also love how the various functions within WHERE all integrate with each other. Great app for the iPhone at a fantastic price: FREE!! Good stuff. I see others had problems getting the app to work ... I can only attribute it to possibly being a result of new release growing pains, because it works beautifully for me.

Don't listen to the others...

When an app is free, everyone downloads it. In-hand, it receives far more reviews from people who don't know what they're talking about. This app is extremely versatile and one of the most useful, especially if you travel often, which is essentially its purpose. All these people saying it's a one time use app obviously never leave their "current location". All the others who say it takes a long time to determine their "current location" must be utilizing a low-speed home wi-fi connection. It's free. Check it out.

This application is one of my must have list! I read about it and immediately had to have it! Everyone should try it! It helps you locate the nearest CHEAPEST gas station, wifi spots, helps you search for the closest anything (type it in the search bar)! Also it shows you local events happenig around you; you never have to miss a beat! The thing I have to say that it needs most work on is locating your exact location, and also add even MORE features!

Better servers + more widgets = happy user

It looks like they weren't ready for the rush of iPhone users. But, it gets faster and comes up more often each day so they seem to be fixing the problem. I had Where on my old phone and liked it a lot even on the tiny screen. It looks even better on the iPhone (what doesn't?). There were TONS more widgets on my old phone. I assume they will be adding more to the iPhone version. Hurry up and finish fixing the servers so I can see my friends in buddy beacon again!

It took a long time, but you guys finally got it right.

I remember back when the App Store first started, this one of the first to show up, and Where made lots of promises... and it failed to even work half of the time. A few updates were released, but it still didn't really work as promised. I can happily say that with this update, Where has finally become what it promised to be, and it works amazingly well. Where really is one the best apps on the store now.

For all the negative reviews on this app that complain that where can't do everything better than other apps dedicated to a single thing, that should be obvious. The real question one should be asking is "will this app allow me to do something I couldn't do before, or will it merge different apps together sufficiently that it becomes more convenient to use versus a combination of other apps?". The answer to both questions obviously depends on what you wish to use it for. In my case, it is yes on both counts. The location based current eventful overlay is truly useful and better than the eventful app itself, and the yelp, starbucks, and Zipcar overlays are excellent as well. So what if it crashes every so often? It's the best currently available, and will only get better.

Deleted this app for almost a year and redownloaded it again when it was featured in the app store. Curious on what the updated version and I was impressed. I did delete some apps since most of them are packed inside this app already. I do miss the night sky star map and still hoping they would revive it. For those whining about the ads, just touch the small x button on the lower right of your screen. I hope the developers would keep on improving this app and add more functionality or add ons. Still glad they offer this app FREE!

I was searching for a dollar store near my location and I tried Google Mobile App, Maps.app, and WHERE. WHERE, by far, gave me the best results. And that is just the Local Search. Although the Zipcar search doesn't work in my area, every other app works amazingly. WHERE even has Yelp built in!
f you use you iPod Touch / iPhone while in a car, WHERE will be one of your most used applications.

Serious potential in need of upgrade

This app has a lot going for it. They seem to have moved beyond the issues causing it to crash all the time and I'm pretty impressed so far. It just needs to be about 75% faster. Suggestions: give me the ability to take out the icons I'll never use (namely Quibbo) and place the others where I want them: essentially, make the interface a more navigable, notch up the graphics, and you may have a terrific app on your hands.

It's great. However, I personally use The Weather Channel as a weather agent. There should be an option where you could choose between different weather agents. Also to add to the weather section more detailed weather information such as Feels Like Temperature, UV Index, Humidity, Heat Index/ Wind Chill Factor, Wind and Visibility. Also an hourly weather menu would also make the weather section a knock out and competitive to other weather apps out there. Just Food For Thought for the makers of Where. As for the wifi section, it could use a makeover. Makeover the only starbucks wifi locations to available public wifi locations such as parks, resturants, cafès, libraries, ECT. Yellowpages.com is a good search engine, but have you considered those who believe the search engine they use is the best? Adding the option to use different search engines such as Google, yahoo and maybe that new Microsoft one, BING! I'm just saying, you would like to service a 5 star, and we, the people would like to use one. This app is well on it's way.

Contrary to most reviews, I found the update to the UI quite nice on most points. As soon as I launch the app, it shows me the gas price, weather, and other recommendations already based on my location. If I click on a category like gas, it shows a list of gas stations close by with prices. If I select one, it shows the map where I can see where they are. Cons: - I found one ad obtrusive when I first tried looking at gas where it covered the screen and a small black x was in the top left corner and was hard to click. It didn't appear again so I'm wondering what triggers that kind of ad. Normally, the ad on the bottom is like any other app with ads on the bottom. A 99 cent version with no ads would be nice. - On the map view, i prefer more info on the place marker and a smaller info balloon. It just shows a plain marker with no info, but shows a giant ballon filled with info when you click on one.

People complain too much. Decent app

People sure do complain a lot. The app works great for me. The ads DO NOT get in the way. They can easily be quit with the little x button on the right side. Having the information you need at your fingertips is also great. People who say they miss the choosing a starbucks and seeing where it's at in relation to where your at... Your stupid. It does that. It even does the work for you. Showing you the nearest starbucks. Why is everyone complaining. It's so much easier than having to look at a map full of starbucks' while driving a car -_- like I said before, people look for reasons to complain. They are probably bored. But all in all, decent app. Could be better but I like it.
