Reviews:
Very Good News App! By: RaulDJ - Oct 10, 2009 Version: 1.0 Yes I am mad that CNN Charged money for this app when they already recieve money threw paid ads. I personally don't agree this app deserves 1 star because of this minor inconvenience. This News app is feature rich and brings you the news on the go almost as well as its Cable news Cast Counter part. I personally like "I report" So you can see news around the world brought to you by regular people just like me. "I Report" even gives you a chance to upload your photos or video if news or something interesting is breaking in your neck of the woods. Don't I wish Fox News Came out with something like this.
Unbelievably good! By: jriga - Oct 17, 2009 Version: 1.0 This is easily one of the best apps in the store, news or not. Video plays flawlessly over wifi or 3g, the 'ads' are not more than a second and are only displayed while the video buffers, and at certain times of the day there is a LIVE video feed from CNN. There is full coverflow support too, a very unique way to browse news stories. All the relevant news sections are there and launching the app every hour or so shows updated news stories CONSTANTLY... This is one of the most impressive apps on the market.
Very impressed.. By: 65rt - Oct 18, 2009 Version: 1.0 I still think an iphone version of, 'The Drudge Report' would be ace but so far CNN has 2 be the top news app. In case you're wondering you do get instant messages on breaking news. These IM are GR8! I've had this app for 3 weeks and I do agree with CNN that they only IM the most imp breaking news. Unlike another app I had that was IM me like 6 times a day with unimportant breaking news. CNN for iphone is a MUST HAVE app. and for 2 bucks you can't beat it. WELL DONE CNN!
I was on the fence, but it delivered! By: martinios - Oct 1, 2009 Version: 1.0 I read almost 100% of my news via iphone, so I'm always looking for new apps. I was totally on the fence for CNN's app because there are so many you can get for free, but after taking a chance I support this app fully. It gives you dozens of stories, it's updated frequently, and has great features. I love that you can "follow" a story, and it will save all stories related for you to read later. I love the video. It works great, no lag, no shut down on the app. And most impressive is the "live" feature. Watchng LIVE CNN news on my iphone is possibly the best feature of any app, ever. :)
CNN mobile By: brooksoes1952 - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.0 Relax about the ads. this is thee coolest news site I have ever reviewed. I subscribe to Stitcher,AP,Newstand,Wallstreet and others and trust me this app is jammed pack with info. I had to put it down after the 20th video on current news items from a Larry King interview with Amadejahn(excuse the spelling on his name) to the Tsunami in the Phillipines. I didnt see any ads because I was too busy absorbing content. Traffic reports and Ireport for all you budding journalist type. I would have paid more for the quality of this site and the streaming is off the hook. drop your cash and sit back and enjoy this news utopia brooksoes
Great News App! Ads Aren't In The Way. By: ack - Oct 3, 2009 Version: 1.0 If you read articles or watch video on CNN daily then this application is definitely worth it. There has been a lot of mention of the application costing money and being ad supported though I personally understand the need for CNN to generate revenue. The ads are easily avoidable so I don't consider them to be an issue. When you consider the effort that goes into creating a really clean and very functional iPhone application then the CNN app is a real bargain. If you read multiple news sources I would suggest the Associated Press application along with this one to get all of your news.
Thanks CNN By: Shitake2K - Oct 4, 2009 Version: 1.0 You did a great job putting together a very friendly interface, one worthy of being an apple app. It's great to carry a connection to what is happening in the world in my pocket. After just a few hours of downloading the CNN app, it has been moved to my home page, I confess to being a 'newsie' and I check the CNN app frequently. I'm glad I was not put off by reviews knocking the ads. I have found the ads to be very unobtrusive, more like a quick screen saver while selected material is loaded.
CNN works for Free By: stteveHERE - Sep 29, 2009 Version: 1.0 I really have mixed feelings when reading the complaints about ads in this paid application. This news app from CNN is really innovative and leads in news delivery. If you follow the industry, media content companies are struggling with how to make money in new media considering people expect it to come free. If we aren't willing to pay for content and/or accept ads, these established companies will fail -- leaving us with Internet blogs and rumos. Media companies can't keep giving away content for free. Additionally, the ads in this application are not obtrusive. I purchased this CNN news app and the People magazine paid app to support quality content providers. I really like this app and highly recommend it. The only complaint I have is the "live" CNN coverage. The anchors/reporters seem small market. I wish you could view live CNN (the main channel). As for paying for the app and still getting ads, when you pay for cable to receive the "free" local channels you still get ads. Someone has to pay the bills.
Best news app out there! By: Mlinca - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.0 The ads are unobtrusive, and two dollars is not a lot of money for this app. To the people who complain- if you want there to keep on being news companies, then get used to paying something. Newspapers are becoming extinct, and the Internet is taking their place. We had to pay a little for newspapers AND see ads, so it shouldn't be a shock to do so here if it is as good as this app! Plus, it is only a one-time payment. STILL a really good deal!
Love this 3g live CNN By: Powersjohnson - Oct 1, 2009 Version: 1.0 Great app and ads are only on when video loads who cars beats a blank screen some people are just whinners as if there two dollars really pays to create an app like this it doesn't crash 3g plays pretty well I am very pleased and if you enjoy live CNN coverage up to the min plus all the bells and whistles " Larry king " etc.. You should get this besides if you are the type of person who needs to know about the world now I don't think two dollars would be a fair trade Powers Johnson everyday citizen republican working man CNN man

Outstanding App! By: cardinalryan - Sep 29, 2009 Version: 1.0 Anybody who tells you any different is not being fair.People, this is America! We are built on advertising and free enterprise...what makes you think that just because CNN charges you a $1.99 that the don't have the right to sell advertising within the app??I'll tell you what, if you object, don't buy the app, it's that simple! However, I can promise you this, they won't miss your business all that much, because anyone who wants a superb news app for their iPhone would gladly give $2 for this one...well done CNN!
Best News App Period. By: The Geb - Sep 29, 2009 Version: 1.0 This is a great news app. You can't go wrong for a buck 99. People irritated about the ads need to calm down. The 1.99 you spent pays for the app development -- the ads will offset the costs associated with all the streaming content. Online you have to sit through commercials before the stories, here the ads are unobtrusive banners -- and there is never a commercial before the video - only a still image while the video buffers. If you are that torn up over the ads stick with AP Mobile -- which is free but has ads too. If you do though, you will be missing a superior experience. This app streams live CNN and other canned content and it does it better than any app I have on my phone. There is no lag at all on Wi-Fi. The layout of this app is superior to all of the other news apps. I love the large picture at the top of each category. This app has local news, weather AND traffic and allows you to follow topics that interest you. You can also file iReports with it. This is everything I hoped the CNN app would be! Buy this app with confidence and ignore the haters :)
Why all the moaning? By: Stewart20Fan - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.0 Not sure why people are moaning about paying $2 and still have ads. How in the world do you expect CNN to continue to make money? You spend more every day at Starbucks? Most people spend much more on cable TV and still watch ads. Most people spend tons of money per month for Internet access and still see ads. People that complain about advertising don't realize how free this app truely is considering how robust the experience is with live video, interactivity etc.Simply put CNN is a business. Can't wait to see the backlash when their beloved Twitter starts to have ads.
I don't have a problem with the ads By: Cclub - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.0 If having ads allows CNN to keep this app current with continuous info flowing, I don't have a problem with the small ads here and there. I pay for cable but I still get ads on the cable channels... how is this different than paying for cable to get cnn TV but then you get commercials? The CNN app is the only app so far that's given me reasonable video via 3G rather than just with a wireless connection.
Love It! By: TheBry - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.0 I've been wondering why CNN didn't have an app for iPhone... now I know why -- they wanted it to be as close to perfect as possible before releasing it. It's great to be able to watch their live news feed right on my phone; and the ability to track stories of interest in the "My CNN" area is cool too. I've only had the app for one day, and it's already my new "go-to" app for news. Also, I had no problem paying $1.99 for the app even though it features subtle advertising. I don't understand why people are complaining about that. Many people (myself included) pay to subscribe to newspapers and magazines and they're ALL laced with advertising. How's the CNN app any different?
Excellent, even with ads By: rlaracuente - Oct 1, 2009 Version: 1.0 I don't see what's the problem with the ads in the program. Why is everyone so jumpy at these ads? They're not even very distracting. Oh my god! I'm scrolling down and all of a sudden there is a two line wide banner that I can perfectly skip without problems! What shall I dooooo?! Get a life, people. Does anyone even knows the constant effort that's put into any of these programs both to make them and to maintain them? You pay 1.99 for a very well made program and you complain about a banner or two? Heck, you don't even get the obnoxious video clips you get on the web before viewing a news video on CNN.But what can you expect from a public that gets quality entertainment for free and still complains. I'd like to see one of you actually oversee (and fund) the development of any iPhone app just to see if you are willing to give it out for free. Sometimes the best liberators make for the best dictators.
very nice for news junkies! By: rick4him - Sep 29, 2009 Version: 1.0 I'm a huge news fan, and having this app is great! The app says you get live news when breaking events occur, but I've had live streaming news all day long. I"m not sure if this is just for the 1st day, or if they will always be streaming like this. If so, this is really going to be an amazing app. IT'll be neat to have this when a "breaking" news story happens, and I don't have to look for a tv, or internet connection - instead I can just pull out my iphone! By the way - the video quality is REALLY great on wifi AND 3g! (at least here in Dallas!)
Best News App, Period. By: ElmerHK - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.0 I almost didn't buy this because of all the uproar over ads. Don't worry about it, spend the $2 and have the best news feed available on the iPhone. Much more complete and up to date than USAToday and NY Times, and a nice compliment to the free msnbc app. You pay for satelite or cable that has ads, so go ahead and get this if you're serious about news. I pay $14/month for Sirius Radio and those ads are much more anoying. Bottom line is ads help pay for content.
Fantastic App By: krg106 - Oct 2, 2009 Version: 1.0 No problems at all so far. The quality of the video over 3G is very good. Switching to coverflow mode when I turn the phone to landscape mode is a nice touch. The banner type ad in the middle of the story headlines isn't a problem. The ads at the beginning of the videos are very, very short and seem to take the place of staring at a blank screen while the video loads. So I don't mind looking at a picture of a lexus for about 2 seconds. Keep in mind that people will buy (or used to) a newspaper every day that is filled with ads. The 2 spots where I have seen ads in the cnn app are a non-issue for me. Good content laid out very well and for a reasonable price. I'm very happy with this purchase.
Incredible! By: Crisco81 - Oct 4, 2009 Version: 1.0 I've tried other news apps and they were all slow, buggy and twitchy, even the one a previous reviewer mentioned. Ugh. This works perfectly and fast and we all know CNN is one of the few if not the best news. Oh I love the high contrast white letters on black background. It's easier to read and easier on the eyes. The local traffic is great. Weather convenient. And yes, sexy :) oh good local news too.
