Beautiful simple design and all the basic functionality

First off, I haven't seen any of the crashes or other problems reported here, so apparently this has all been fixed. I tried a few RSS readers, and this one stands out in terms of price (free), and in its minimalistic but highly functional design. Feeds can be added via an integrated browser. All feeds can be updated at once with a refresh button. Unread counts are indicated on the main feeds screen, and on the app icon (nice touch). All articles in a feed can be marked as 'read' with a single press. When reading an article, there are dedicated buttons to go to the next or previous article without using the article list.
A few possible additions:
- I could have used a help screen for adding feeds. It's a bit counterintuitive at first
- I would have liked a searchable feed database to speed up adding feeds
- the blue dots indicating the unread count are great, but I'd like the ones with 'zero unread' to show in gray so it's easy to see which have unread items.
- while reading an article, on the down arrow (next article) perhaps display a number of unread items remaining in that feed, so you 'know where you are'
With or without these changes, this is a great reader!

With the new update that sped things up interface wise I highly recommend this app for those of you who want a simple, no frills rss reader.

I really liked this app when I first found it because it was super simple. It allowed me to aggregate my rss feeds without all the unwanted extra features of most readers. I would add a feed, then read it. No auto deleting feeds I've read, no auto refreshing, only loading the specific story when I wanted it which made it fast.
Then an update came out which added read/unread tracking which, the way it was implemented, worked great.
Then the last update came out. I can't remember what it was supposed to do, but what it did was slow the app down so much that scrolling through the stories was unbearable. This was an amazing app, the kind I had been looking for for a while, and with that last update it went down the tubes.
Highly recommended if it gets fixed but not before.

RSS was designed as a simple way to have your news delivered to you, but so many feed readers try to make it so complex by giving you so many unnecessary options and call them "features". This app stays on the K.I.S.S. principle and is simple and basic. All it does is present your feeds and it handles the rest on its own. If you like complicating something simple like RSS, this is not the reader for you.

Thank you for adding this Application. Now, I can customize the news I like and see what is going on in the rest of the world. Thank you for not evolving this around a specific country. Readers of this comment: You can try to add the BBC World News RSS feed. One thing I love to see added to this application is the ability to categorize your feeds into groups (i.e.: feed 1 & feed 2 in NEWS group / feed 3, 4, 5 in TRAVEL DEALS / and so on....)

New update makes this a hit!

This used to be a bit of a pony but now updated is a stallion of an ap. Add feeds by typing in the web site. The app then loads up the web page and automatically finds the feeds for that site. Just choose from the displayed list and add. Try with timesonline.co.uk to see how well this now works. Well done to the developer for the improvements. This is now a really great app for free. Don't buy a feed app until you try this.

Beats all of the paid RSS readers!

This simply is the best RSS reader on the appstore, and its Free!
I Bought 2 RSS Readers from the appstore some time ago and both of them would crash everytime and use such large font sizes that you could never read more then a few words. This application is different, the first being its Free of course and secondly it has a lovely interface and the text is nice and smooth.. you can actually read the news from it!
Really impressed with it. thank you to the developers, you did a great job with this app.

This is the best RSS reader of the lot under free regime. I can't imagine anything better than this. The best part is you don't have to run safari separately to read the full news. Instead, the page opens within the rss reader only so that after reading you simply go back to the reader by just pressing the "Feed" button at the top.
Only one suggestion though for the next upgrade, it would be good to have an option to edit the RSS source header. Otherwise not every source name is appropriate enough to identify from the main page. For example, the BBC News Front Page and BBC News Technology has the same source name as "BBC News". So, it is difficult to identify unless the news page is opened.

Free and simple

It isn't complicated, it's fairly easy to use; when you wish to view the whole article from a site, you have the option of viewing through the RSS app itself or Safari. One previous reviewer did mention that in portrait mode most headers for each article is a bit too long to read fully in portrait mode, and he suggested word-wrapping the titles. One more vote for that, too, from me. But all in all, this app is incredibly handy and my phone just wouldn't be the same without it. Thanks for making a nice free version with NO ads! :)

this is a very easy to use rss reader- the caching of the feeds has been a boon for working in a signal dead area. I really want to get the pro version to cache the images, but sadly its not available right now. I plan to wait to buy this pro version as I have had no crashing with the app, (i really think the 1 star reviews are sad competitors) and am holding off on buying another rss that will save images because this app does no more than what i want- keeping this rss simple and quick- and i want to support that.

This app is in my dock. It needs google reader support (at least in the pro version, but it would be nice in the free), and needs to let you view full text feeds. It should have the blue gradient when you select things to fit in on the iPhone. Also, the developer really should make a desktop client with google reader integration that can sync with the iPhone version. The interface is gorgeous, but more could be done to make it fit in. Also, when there is an image in an article, it should show up in the gray area on the left that splits the unread icons and the same should happen with the website favicons for the feeds. Also, you should be able to let it automatically update feeds every few minutes when in the app, and it will be perfect!

I've tried many RSS readers and this is by far my favorite, free or paid. I've used it since it was first released and haven't looked back, and it keeps getting better with every update. There is still room for some improvement, but the updates come quite regularly. I especially like viewing the feeds in landscape mode. This reader may not have a ton of features, but for me, on a mobile platform like the iPhone i just want something streamlined and efficient, which this is. This reader is simple, but SOLID. Well done.

Free RSS Reader is terrific. I've tried other free rss readers and this is the best so far.
It's great that feeds from the web can be located and added through the app itself,
and yes feed titles can be renamed and landscape mode can be turned off via
the settings app. There are only 2 reasons I've not scored this app 5 stars.
Firstly, I would like to see some recognition onscreen when touching selections
(eg: change of button color) and secondly, I would prefer resume where left off after restarting the app.

great rss reader

nice interface uplift! would be useful if the 'read graphics' was more distinguishable from the 'unread graphics' (grayed out or different colour all together). This change would help with both item count (number of unread articles from a feed) as well as with each item in the feed (fully filled circe vs half filed circe do resemble each other somewhat as opposed to different colours). Right now only one colour (blue) is used. Other than that, it's a great rss reader app.

I tried a previous version of this reader and deleted it soon after as it was just too awkward to enter a feed URL. This new version (0.3.2) is excellent in how this is now handled with the ability to browse to a page and select the feed from the urls the reader finds for you automatically on the page. Well done for such an excellent implementation. One feature request I have is to mark all articles in all feeds as read instead of doing this in each individual feed. This could be added to the more menu. One bug to report is the frequent crashes which are frustrating but not enough to stop me using this. It starts up quickly and I just resume from where I was. 5 stars if crashing bug is fixed and the mark all as read would be the icing on the cake.

This is exactly what I want. Thanks! Enhancement requests: 1. Please wrap the titles when in portrait mode. Most of my headlines can only be read in landscape. 2. When browsing the web to add a feed, the UI is confusing at the last step. I thought I was adding the feed when tapping the plus button, but had to tap another less obvious button after. I'd love it if the plus button just added the feed. 3. There's a point during data entry when adding the feed where I had to tap 2 done buttons. One on the keyboard and one above. Would be nice to only tap once.

BEST FREE READER. It seems like update 0.9.4 has fixed most of the crashing problems others complained about.
The good: This is a great RSS reader. It is very capable - does multiple formats and supports wide (landscape) and tall views for easier reading. Even if you don't know the exact RSS feed address, you can visit the HTML page and it will AUTO DETECT the feeds present on the page!
The bad: No folder structure for organizing feeds into categories. I wouldn't use the feature if it had it, but I've seen other RSS readers with this.
Comments: It only updates the feeds if it is running. RSS readers need to update in the background and notify you when feeds have been updated. I haven't heard of any other readers (free or pay) doing this either, so maybe it just isn't possible, but it'd be a nice feature to add.

I love this app bcuz it allows me to follow all of the news that I want. It's super easy to use & for a free app it performs better than many paid rss readers. Still a little buggy @ times but not too bad. Only feature I would like added is the back button going back only 1 page at a time. So, when i go read an article and there r other links I'd like to be able to go back to that link instead of all the way back to the list of articles. Again, an awesome app that I use more than any other... Thanks!

I use to hate this app because It was a pain in the butt adding new feeds, especially in the none CCP days. Now it's DRASTICALLY easier. I don't even have to copy and paste ! Just go to add a feed, type the website in, browse it and the app automatically find the feed(s). 100% GENIUS. All they need to add is a " all unred " as well or a undo feature to "all read"
