On Demand NPR

I listen to NPR news both in the morning and afternoon but there are times when things get in the way I am miss an hour or more of the program. I love being able to browse by story and listen to what I want to hear. The layout is nice and the audio quality sounds great. I use it to catch up when I am driving around mid afternoon and want to hear some NPR or if I sleep in on sunday and really want to hear Will Short and the puzzle piece. Worth the download.

great app that streams npr pretty well. my majorly needed requests please:
1. allow "search" to search for programming titles outside of your locale. (for example i live in CA, but i really want to be able to type "this american life" and actually have it show up in results).
2. let us bookmark our favorite shows! i dont want to have to hunt for Car Talk in the Diversions catagory, wait wait don't tell me in another catagory, this american life by having to search for "chicago, il" then finding the show under WBEZ, etc etc. please let us bookmark podcasts and shows@

If you like NPR this is a wonderful app. You have NPR at your fingertips anytime you want it. Every program that NPR produces. The only problem - and others have already pointed this out - there is no play all feature. Each show is broken down into its respective parts so if you want to listen to the entire program you have to keep hitting play. For example Morining Edition may have seven stories - each story is sectioned off and you have to listen to each separately - there is no continuous play. This has got to be fixed. Other than that though this is a great app.

I had two best men at my wedding. Their tandem toast revolved around my relationship to BPR. Addiction may be the word they used. So, as I was browsing the iPhone app store on my iPod Touch, I could not resist testing out NPR Mobile when I ran across it. NPR Mobile is an unofficial app, put together by a volunteer and released gratis. From the web site:
NPR Mobile 1.0 is an easy-to-use application that will help you find your favorite NPR programs and segments. I’ve found that with it, I am able to expose myself to additional NPR programming that my local station doesn’t carry. Often times, when I wake up in the morning, I half-hear a story on Morning Edition, and want to come back to it later in the day. With NPR Mobile, I’ve been able to do this, and hear the full story on my time.
It does exactly what it is supposed to do and it does it with a simple elegance. But how does it look from a low vision perspective?
Since I was curious about the accessibility of the app, I look a look at their sotry, Some Technology Leaves The Blind Behind. How ironic.
There are two main accessibility features I look for in an iPhone app. Others, like high contrast color schemes, are secondary. First, though, I look for swivel. Second, I look for multitouch zoom or an adjustable font. I had no luck with the NPR app. No swivel. No zoom. No adjustable font.
The only saving grace for accessibility is that NPR is radio, so all their stories have an audio portion. The listen link sends the iPhone into QuickTime so you can easily listen to the stories that interest you.
I look forward to seeing future iterations of NPR Mobile. It does what it is supposed to do ans does it well. In the future, I hope Pass Time adds some zoom and swivel for those of us with reading glasses.

great for archived content

This application offers a fast way to find and listen to archived stories from any of NPR's shows, which is a great addition since I haven't found any other way to access that content on the iPhone (NPR's mobile site offers almost no links to audio content, and their "full" site locks it away behind a Flash-based player). The only way I could see this app improved is the ability to listen to live NPR streams, although I can understand why that hasn't been added or may even be intentionally left out. For that I will continue to rely on FStream.

5-stars because I don't believe anything is perfect. But this, I can see, will be one of my favorite applications. I love listening to NPR while driving to and from work and having the ability to listen to this at work, the gym, in an airport...oh my god! Do you understand? You can listen to ANY NPR program!! Anytime!! Anywhere! No more crapy local programing! No more pleage drives (yea, I know that's bad). Get this.

I realize that many/most of the articles that you get with NPR Mobile can be found through iTunes as podcasts, but this app makes finding and listening to them more convenient and efficient. I would like to see more shows (Car Talk, Speaking of Faith, etc.) available, but so far, I am very pleased with the app. I would also like some way to "save" articles, even if they are just saved to a flagged list of favorites for fast recall. Thanks, Pass Time Software, I appreciate this nice app.

This is one extremely useful app - especially for people (like me) who've become so used to getting news instantly off the web that I often just don't have the time (or patience) to listen to an entire NPR broadcast. With this app you can listen to just the stories you want - especially useful if you're in a rush or if you're trying to monitor a particular issue. You can also pull up stories by individual reporters, or from a long list of subject areas. Very nicely done!

I love how I can quickly see all the latest segments from morning edition, all things considered, talk of the nation, etc., read the description, and play the items that interest me. I've ended up using this app more than the public radio player b/c of the ability to choose specific segments whenever I want.Have had no technical problems.

This loads/runs much faster than the Public Radio app. If having trouble with it crashing on launch after upgrading delete it and reinstall. It fixed all problems.

I have OS 3.0 and have had no probs at all. My only gripe is that you have to go hunting for This American Life. It should be in the All Programs list instead of searching for the podcast under WBEZ Chicago. 5 stars.
