Reviews:
A wonderful app! By: Pluto99 - 26-Jul-2009 Version: 0.9.3 Updating previous comments and giving 5* because I'm so pleased with it. I update my feeds before each journey and can then read them on the tube - perfect! I have none of the crashing problems reported by others.
Good for reading offline but could be easier to categorise feeds and an About page would be very helpful - I could not find how to contact the developer even though other reviewers have found out how to do this. Could be excellent in the future.
Probably my number one app for my iPod Touch. By: //..k_fury - 28-Dec-2008 Version: 0.5.1 Probably my number one app for my iPod Touch. I always switch this on in the morning, it automatically downloads and stores the news and I and can then read the news of all of my favourite sites on the way to work. It supports the different types of RSS (RSS1.0,2.0,Atom) and has images too. Feature Requests: - Ability to choose if images are downloaded or not would be good - Images which are too wide for the screen should be scaled down to fit (option in settings for this?) - Option to change the default font size (I think the current font is very slightly too big) - automatic background syncing of RSS feeds (so could for example ability to set it to sync RSS feeds every morning at 7am)
So good this should ship with the iPhone/iPod Touch By: crushedlizard - 17-Dec-2008 Version: 0.5 The Free RSS reader is one of the best, and most used apps I have on my iPod. The ability to cache images on feeds, along with a few other extras was enough to make me upgrade. It won't cache the whole url, so BBC News etc will just give you a short intro. But that's not the apps fault, it's the feed's fault. Feeds from The Guardian, engadget etc, who give the full article and images within the feed, are ideal for iPod users. Obviously, if within wifi range you can access the whole article using the inbuilt browser, or safari. Basically this is an excellent app for my 3G-less iPod Touch. I now refresh my feeds in the morning, and then have them with me when out of wifi range. Updates are regular and there is a solid support site. This is app clearly made for function and not profit. Something seldom seen in the Apple universe.
Excellent App By: Jon Souter - 19-Nov-2008 Version: 0.3.3 This has become the most used app on my iPhone 3G... no longer do I scour the web with Safari-mobile for my daily fix of music / tech / science news - I simply use Pro RSS Reader's built in browser to surf to the sites I like and snag their news-feeds. Now all my news gets delivered whenever I like - carried with me and read even where I don't have a WiFi / 3G / Edge / GSM signal - thanks to it's ability to cache articles for later / offline reading. There are other NewsReaders out there, but I've not found another that feels this 'at home' on the iPhone. It makes good use of Portrait / Landscape mode switching, offline reading thanks to news item caching (including any images embedded in each article), next / previous article navigation from inside the built-in browser and you can even get it to spawn a Safari session if that's your preference (though I prefer to stick with the Pro RSS in-built browser - for speed and the ability to navigate between articles without having to switch apps). The developer has been very responsive to my questions & suggestions and is bringing on impressive new features at a rapid rate without the app feeling bloated. This is a highly recommended app for anyone who likes to follow news & review sites and blogs - will be watching this developer closely for other innovative apps in the future - as he seems to be in tune with what I want from an iPhone app.
New Version Works Great By: Mitch Sefton - 28-Sep-2009 Version: 0.9.7 As detailed elsewhere, v0.9.6 was a disaster and broke the app for a lot of people. However, the developer was responsive to my emails and released a new version promptly which fixed the problems. I guess like many things in life, the true measure of something is how things are resolved when they go wrong. Full marks to the developer and Pro RSS is again firmly recommended. It's fast, has useful features (not gimmicks) is small in size, oh, and it's now stable!
Fantastic RSS reader! By: Mati81 - 05-Feb-2009 Version: 0.8 Tried a LOT of RSS readers and this is the last man standing! Beautifuly polished but simple & functional interface, adding of feeds on the go, feed search from your favourite websites, 100% caching of feeds inluding the images, archiving, make "all read", feed content preview, landscape mode... need anything more? And with the future features like feed sorting into folders & stuff this app just keeps on getting better & better and all that for a great price!
9.0/10 By: 9875823 - Aug 2, 2009 Version: 0.9.3 So far from all the other rss reader applications that I've tried on the app store all of them leave something to be desired. I myself am a pretty pickey person when it comes to the design of an applications interface. The other apps that i've tried all look messy, lack functionality between them, or don't work as well as this one... I started off using the free version for about a year and decided to move to the pro version. I'm glad I did and the little extra things made it worth it so I'm not complaining, though $2.99 is a bit steep to me seeing as how the jump isn't that dramatic from free to pro version of this application. Anyway... The app as it has progressed has become increasingly more stable and to me is the most complete/functional/aesthetically pleasing RSS reader currently available. The other ones I've tried I deleted almost immediately because some were designed and/or written so poorly that I couldn't keep using them. Some are a lot slower than this one and some others have a really messed up UI that needs to be improved asap. This one with all it's features and overall design both UI and code wise make this currently the best rss reader on the app store which is probably why it is so high up on the listings. Until someone creates a better app than this one. This is going to remain the best rss reader for people to use on the application store. Now don't get me wrong and think this is all praise and no criticism. I've had my share of crashes with this app myself but they happen less and less frequently and I can't remeber the last time I had it happen to me because the current version remains pretty stable. Other little things I have are minor like it should just be called (RSS Reader) and the opening logo icon screen that shows up before the screen with your feeds shouldn't exist and if it had to should just be a cleanly designed rss icon. Perhaps some font size increase and decrease buttons in the feed display... And i'm sure I could go on nit picking this app like other people. But overall from my experience with the other reader applications on the app store this remains the best of them so I'm stayin with it till something better happens to show up.
Amazing RSS Reader By: Jamesmerize - May 2, 2009 Version: 0.9.2 I have purchased other RSS readers and I can tell you that this one is the absolute best. I regret not buying it first. 1. My favorite feature: finally, an image caching button on the front page without having to select individual feeds. No other reader has this. So simple to finally cache all articles AND images with ONE button push. Thank you for implementing this, Simon. Great work 2. Clean, beautiful interface accompanied by great icon and color scheme 3. Easy to read text, landscape mode included. 4. Offline reading is the best, as mentioned above, the image caching button is THE BEST feature of this. 5. Does not crash like other paid apps 6. Worth the extra price compared to the other paid RSS apps. Highly recommend this app. Worth every penny for how functional and appealing it is. I recommend that Simon clearly state that image caching is available on one single button the home screen as this is the most desirable feature.
Finally, one that meets my needs By: JesterMania - 3-Jul-2009 Version: 0.9.2 This RSS app finally does what I need after trying several others. First of all, this app's interface is both simple and visually appealing. Secondly, I am an avid Google Reader user on the desktop and while the native web-based interface works great there, I would like to have an app on my iPhone which enhances the speed over the safari web interface and has a "badge" displaying unread items. To this end, this app does just that. I had no problems loading all 38 feeds by syncing directly with my Google Reader account. Once I marked items as read in the app, it was then reflected in Google Reader as well (once I hit the sync button). There were no perceivable slow-downs at all, and unlike some other apps which forces you to organize feeds by folder and mashes them all together, this one lets me read feed by feed - exactly what I do with Google Reader. The only one enhancement which would make this app even better is the ability to recognize that I have deleted a feed in Google Reader and do so similarily in the app. Currently, I have to do this manually and is not much of an issue at all. Overall, with its stellar speed, nice interface, and ability to sync well with Google Reader, I give it all 5 stars.
Awesome RSS reader By: Moooseman - Mar 14, 2009 Version: 0.9 Great job, please try and put a black or grey background with white text option and you are golden. Also if you can maybe fix the problem that happens when starts you off zoomed in when you choose a post. Not sure if this happens only when there are images, but it is a slight annoyance. Thanks for all your hard work, and it's a great buy!! Highly recommended!!! It's definitely worth it's weight. Great job!!

Better than other rss apps! By: Danny_1981 - 16-Jan-2009 Version: 0.7 To the above reviewer - i see full content + pictures for most feeds (20/25) - developer - fix it!
Very much worth the price for the feature that allows me to enter a regular URL and checks the page for an rss feed. It makes adding feeds very easy.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To the developer- please add these 2 features.
1. Better management of category folders- I can't add more feeds to a category once created! Lame!
2. Export of my list of feeds in some kind of format.
I bought it and recomend it to other users! Thanks!
Very good app By: cben - Dec 14, 2008 Version: 0.5 I think this is a great RSS reader. I have not had problems with stability. It is much more cut down and elegant than newsstand, which - while it has cool features - is actually a little ugly and bloated interface-wise. One thing that would be great (but I don't know how feasible) would be to request pre-loading of images in specific feeds from the main interface (rather than having to go into separate feeds and do it).... i.e. so it would be possible to hit a single button and preload all relevant feeds before your train enters the subway :) Thanks very much for this great and reasonably priced app.
Worthwhile By: revdrslem - Dec 5, 2008 Version: 0.4.1 I've tried most of the RSS readers so far, and have always come back to Free RSS. I considered whether it was even necessary to move to Pro RSS because of being happy with the free version, but after looking at the ability to import OPML and categorize the feeds, I bought Pro. It's worth every penny. This is clean and customizable, and thank you-thank you-thank you for including the ability to mark all feeds as read from the home screen.
Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater By: Marek Z - 22-Sep-2009 Version: 0.9.6 I've been using Pro RSS for several months and think it one of the best apps I have on my iPhone. True that the current release is flawed but the authors seem to be on it. If you are new to the app just keep using the free version for now and move to the pro version once the bug is fixed. The previous releases were very well designed and I encourage the authors to keep maintaining the app - it is a gem!
$4?? By: A.J. F. - Nov 15, 2009 Version: 0.9.8 i like this app, and it does what its supposed to, and i use it about a hundred times a day and it hasnt crashed, so im not having those problems, but $4 for just a month of push when its not even that fast!??? wow...went from a 5 star app to 2-3 star app. i already paid $2 for the app, now i have to pay $48 a year to get push when all other apps give it for free as a "thank you" for buying their app. and $1 for just 3 days???? thats worse, thats $121 a year. now i know that this would be a heavy app for push on their servers and it probably shouldnt be free...i understand that, but it should be more like $.99 for a month, and $4.99 for 6 months, and so people know what their getting, make push free for just one feed for 1 month. that would make sooooo much more sense.
I like it and use it a lot... By: Doogs38 - 02-Oct-2009 Version: 0.9.7 ...The good: It is the best app I've found for keeping up-to-date on news from a variety of dispersed sources. The app is intuitive (and hence simple) to use and is responsive (particularly with WIFI :-). The UI layout is logical and editing options are good. The ability to preload images, mark 'all stories as read' and use the app in landscape mode are also useful options. ...The bad. I would be a lot happier if the app wasn't prone to crashing. In particular, the built in browser seems to crash often. Other times, it just crashes while reading a story synopsis.
Improved! But needs more! By: Q-topia - May 3, 2009 Version: 0.9.2 I bought this App a while back. However, it was not good at all at that time. I started using the latest version lately. And it is much better. The google reader sync is great. But it is inly synced if I press refresh. Hope it can be synced periodically automatically, or when I press, all read. Also, there should be more sharing options. Share using twitter would be essential function! Please add these functions!
Good but not perfect. By: Gcapital - 4-Aug-2009 Version: 0.9.4 Very good reader!! But it doesn't load my folders from google reader. I've got at least 30 folders with at least 10 or more feeds in each. There's noway I'm gonna spend all that time remaking all those folders and re-organizing each feed. That's my biggest gripe. Also since all the feeds are sorted alphabetically, I have to spend a good minute or two to get to the last feeds. Also when returning from reading a feed it resets the view to the top meaning you have to rescroll to every new feed. Even if it's the next feed from the last one you just read. Time consuming.
Great rss reader By: steve_x - Dec 10, 2008 Version: 0.4.1 I really like this RSS Reader Pro, it is almost perfect, easy to use and has good features.
However I have a small wish list, which could make a bigger different betweeen the pro and free version:
- different color to indicate new feeds
(grey if no new one, blue with number for new feeds)
- a UPDATE ALL & INCLUDING PIC button, then I could use it for instance before go on the plane or before leave the office. Even it would take 5 minutes is no problem.
Push is cool By: Newsoholic - Dec 1, 2009 Version: 0.9.81 Notication system works well but is really expensive. I think 2$ / month would be the right price for a such service (it is actually 4$).
