Yes, the interface can be a bit clunky. This is however the absolute best option for managing podxast subscriptions. I can do it all from my device and have been freed from iTunes. This one thing would have made the application worth twice the price. In the approximately 2 months I have been using this player I have found 1 circumstance that will crash the app. If you manually add episodes to the qeue and then hit the pause button in the qeue screen then the app will crash. Other than that it has been rock solid. I would love to see more syncing options (There are podcasts I would like to keep all of the episodes of...)

This app is awesome if you listen to a bunch of podcasts. The OTA download of all of your podcasts is lightning fast and destroys having to download and sync to iTunes. Only issue is that version 1.1.2 crashes on MPEG 2 files, MPEG 1 work fine. The author tested an MPEG 2 file for me on version 1.2 and says it works. I can't wait! EDIT: 1.2 is here and it is awesome! So many changes he should have called it 2.0! This app is incredible. I listen to podcasts all day at work- one touch in the morning at home and I am set for the day. Again, awesome!

The new Podcaster App

I have really like this app even back in the old podcaster days, when it was only for JB phones.
This new Rssplayer is very nice podcasting app. You can import your .opml file and have all your favorite podcasts at your fingertips.
I personally use opmlmanager.com to post my .opml that I export from iTunes which makes it a lot easier than doing each feed individually.
Podcaster was the one app that I bought, so I think that it says a lot. RSSPlayer is just as good and I'm sure will be even better as the updates come.
If you really like your podcasts like I do buy this app!

If you are a talk radio junkie and subscribe to a podcast this is a must. I got it when it was $1.99, but I would pay $20 for it. I never have to dock my phone to download my subscription. I just put in the URL with my password and everything is automatic. When I travel I don't have to find a pc. After the update this is the best app put there. Only one suggestion. Add a slider so I can advance to amywhere I want in the podcast. They also helped me by email when I had a question. Thanks again!!!

As a former Podcaster user, I'm very impressed with RSS player so far. Its got some bugs but based on how far the app has come in such a short period of time, I'm quite confident in the authors ability to rectify all outstanding issues. If you want a flexible RSS/podcasting/XML application with more flexibility than iTunes then this is your app. The best feature: It works with Password protected RSS/podcast streams!!

I'm surprised this app has so few reviews, and to be honest I was a little baffled to see it bare such a low rating as well.
This application is fantastic, I use it daily. The interface is slick and the overall application is quite intuitive IMHO. In all the time I have used RSS Player, I personally have not encountered any bugs. Furthermore, the developer is constantly working on this amazing application in efforts to add more great feartures for us, the users.
What makes this an even better application is it has such a great developer. As I mentioned previously, the developer is constantly working to provide fantastic new updates. In addition to that, the beta testing of this application is quite 'open' which may be why RSS Player rarely has any bugs (that an the combination of a skilled developer). Since it's release RSS Player has already been on sale for an even lower price than the current 3 bucks which is literally a steal. I also notice the developer giving up redemption codes rather frequently, but I personally feel he deserves more than he's charging (though it's a good median between users and the developer).
This application is totally worth it even if you watch just one podcast frequently. It's an amazing application with an amazing price and I highly, highly recommend it. I believe the developer released a free app and a cheaper one with limitations (maybe in the US App Store) if you're interested in trying it out first, which I most deffinitely recommend despite it's awesomeness.

A Must Have...

For any podcast lover. Like the other review says it allows you do pass the 10 MB download limited restricted by apple over edge/3g. I live on an acreage and it is impossible to get highspeed out here so when I really need a podcast fix I can just download over the cellular network. Price point is excellent as well. Thank you so much for this app. As to above comments regarding feeds. I have had no problem adding TWIT, CRANKYGEEK (video), DIGGNATION, THE ONION, or NOBODY LIKES ONIONS. I have yet to run into a feed that doesn't work. Maybe write down the feed address first?? It's not rocket science.

Long-awaited Feature

This app allows you to download podcasts greater than 10MB over 3G/Edge -- something not allowed by iTunes. It is limited by Apple's SDK: it has to be running to download or play, and it can't interact with the ipod functions. This also means you need to find and re-enter your feed urls manually, which is a one-time pain.
But other than those limitations, it's excellent. It remembers your pause positions, it allows you to stream or download for later; it pauses and resumes downloads. It plays video and audio well. The UI layout is nice enough, and it doesn't hide functions from you. It takes a few moments to poke around and learn what all the buttons do, but then you're set.
There is room for some little niceties and features to be added, but even as it is right now (1.0), it's worth the $1.99. Especially for anyone who's been stranded without wifi on a trip, and ran out of podcasts to listen to.

Essential for any podcast listener

If you regularly listen to podcasts then this app is an essential purchase. Building on the developer's original "Podcaster" app, this new app is far more stable and offers a convenient and easy way to keep up to date with your favourite podcasts without either (a) having to regularly sync with iTunes, or to (b) manually "check for new podcasts" on your device, which is a laborious process in itself, and which you don't even get the option to do if you don't have a previous podcast on your iPod! (nice one Apple). The only downside is you have to manually enter the podcast feeds, but the developer is already working on improvements in that area, so I'm not marking it down for that. For me this app gets 5 stars for making managing my podcast subscriptions so much simpler. Get it quick while it is on offer, you won't regret it. (review based on version 1.0)

The one thing I gave up when I moved from Windows Mobile to iPhone was the ability to automatically check all my podcast feeds and download new shows to my phone. iTunes downloads podcasts, but not automatically.
This app returns all I lost and allows me a measure of independence from the desktop and iTunes I thought I could only dream of.
The initial release was great but controls and features have improved with each iteration that has come along. Looking forward to what can be done with the 3.0 software release!

Top stuff - and getting better too

This is a must buy if you want to subscribe to podcast feeds and download them via non wifi connection. Two things that (at v2.2 software) Apple's built in software doesn't do. The initial release was a stripped down almost beta version, but at v1.2 all glitches have been ironed out and great new functionality (search, ffwd, agenda list, auto syncing) had been added. Try the free version if you want to see how good it is - but if you want to subscribe to more than two feeds this is a must have! Top marks to the developer who is keen to keep developing this into a fully polished app. Roll on more updates!

Stable and very usable podcast player

This is a nice app which allows you to download and play podcasts, both video and audio. It remembers where you got to with audio podcasts. It is reliable (so far) and is better than using the itunes app to download podcasts because there are no file size limits and it plays and downloads the files in one app.
Thanks to the developer for a great bargain app that helps with listening to the latest podcasts.
Now the dev has updated this with the facility to fast forward and rewind downloaded podcasts this is fantastic. It also now has a built in browser which is cool for reading podcast notes and general web browsing. 5 stars and an amazing app that beats the apple podcast download facility.... i have now stopped syncing podcasts from itunes, because this app does it better and is able to handle long podcasts, and lots and lots of feeds, eg 44, with no problems.
I can't wait for the next update!!!

I already have purchased Podcaster which us great app and well worth paying for! So at the price of free there was no harm in getting this app. And am I glad I didn't buy it. I can live with out the ability to search for more podcast but the lack of playback features?!? What gives? No settings to auto downoad? It's almost unbeliavble that these guys even made this in comparison to Podcaster. I still have hopes for these guys. Maybe further updates will address these issues and more. Till then ... 2 stars. It works but below the par of development skills that they could of done.

I bought this app solely to listen to my Coast to Coast AM podcast since I hate syncing it every day from iTunes. It's password-protected and at first I couldn't figure it out but I emailed Alex and he emailed me back with easy instructions within just a few minutes.
For not having to sync, and being able to listen to files larger than 10 MB when I'm not on wifi, I'd give this app 10 stars if I could! A spectacular app if you listen to a lot of podcasts, especially large files, and like to download them directly to your phone instead of syncing them. Highly recommended!

Superb RSS Player

I am very satisified with this program. My favorite feature is to be able to skip forward during a podcast in a very controlled way. If you tap once it progresses 10 seconds, two tap 30 seconds forward, three taps 1 minute forward and so on. I listen to some podcasts that have the same commercials every day and I cant stand to listen to them anymore. So this makes it very easy to jump forward and backward.
I believe this program deserves a 5, however I do have to agree with some other posters that some of the buttons are very hard to press (some you use every day). For example the SYNC button on the queue page. My one critisism i the interface could be greatly simplified.
Even so, its still a great piece of software and at 99 cents its a no-brainer.

This is the first review i've ever been compelled to write. Right now I have 214 apps, both paid and free (I keep a modest 2 extra screens of apps and games, though) This podcasting app should be native from Apple. Requiring syncing to iTunes for video podcast downloads is too much. I sync my phone every couple days, tops. Sidenote: If anyone has the iPod attachment for the Kenwood DDX-512, Video is supported for this application, too. Awesome mobile setup.

I use this app to handle all my podcasting on my hour drive each way to and from work. This gives me the power i need to switch between streaming and downloaded podcasts as I am going between 3G and Edge coverage areas in central NY.I'm glad Apple finally got the working version approved after rejecting an update due to one of the podcast logos having an iPhone picture in it. The delay on approvals is pretty bad... Thankfully the latest version here installs without any problems.

I've owned every version of this app and it predecessor. Alex has put it all together with this release of the RSS Player (1.2). I consider myself to be a podcast poweruser. Before work everyday I used to sync with itunes to schedule my podcast lineup for the day. Most of my programming was a day old by the time I could access it. iTunes podcast sync does not work well because of late updates and size limits. Now with Rss Player I sync on the fly and listen to the news on the same day without fail. For a serious podcast this is _the_ app to get.
1.3 looks even better.

This is an awesome app!!! It will download Podcasts that are larger than the 10 megabyte limit iTunes has set for Edge and 3G downloads. This is great for those of us that are on the go for many days at a time and can't always have access to a wifi connection. I'm a Old Time Radio/ Radio Drama junkie and had to look for wifi connections so I could download a few episodes at a time to take with me, that was a pain. Now i've been freed!!! Mr. A, the author, was very helpful with a small problem I had finding one of my favorite shows. He was curteous and prompt with the solution. Thank you Mr A, for the Best App on the iTunes store, I use it all day, every day.
