Rock solid By: samuraic - May 11, 2009 Version: 1.0.0 Very solid app. I particularly like being able to update the articles at home in the morning, and then reading offline during the commute when I have no wi-fi connection. My only small gripe is it seems to take forever to check for updated sections, so I usually hit the "skip" button. I am also a subscriber to the WSJ Online, and this app seems to offer the same subcriber-only content without the need to have a subscription.
Greatest newspaper EVER By: vnk - Nov 10, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 WSJ is an awesome newspaper, with second to none writing and perspective and it definitely worth its price. The app evolves with more features added, sometimes slow to start but still useful. The small glitches need to be fixed. Some complained that they can get news for free elsewhere... Well yes, but of the quality and insight that wsj provides. Smart people are rare, so the smart paper. For myself, WSJ makes a great part of day's pleasure.
Innovative article navigation. A+ By: Aftershave - Sep 3, 2009 Version: 1.1.2 When I downloaded the app I had low expectations for it, given that so many news publications try to create a custom application that behaves like a hastily developed web-app. I was surprised how fast the content loaded over the EDGE network and how easy it was to jump from one article to another. This is much better than the NYT app. Sure, it has less content than NYT but whatever is published makes you consume the media without any hassles or awkward navigation issues. Well done, WSJ. I would easily recommend this to someone who is interested in consuming insightful news stories.
Great app! By: Cybermama - Aug 28, 2009 Version: 1.1.2 I'm a long time subscriber to the print edition of the WSJ. This app is not going to replace my paper version but it's on my Touch for good. A subset of the next day's articles are presented every evening and I can browse through the at my leisure. Hte next day, I can read the op ed pieces and the rest of the paper. Considering that this is a free app, it's great! I intend to use it when we travel and don't have our paper.
WSJ IPhone Reader A Hit IMHO ... By: Lwmaus - Apr 27, 2009 Version: 1.0.0 This app is excellent and what a difference from using a web browser. Its very fast, and the content is organized properly for easy access. What is bothersome is the obtrusive Oracle ad (I guess Oracle sponsored the rollout of this app). Hopefully with a paid subscription the ad(s) will go away. I am impressed and have been waiting for some time for an IPhone WSJ reader app. This is a good one ! I would be interested to see how the reader will handle subscriber logon. Right now the reader app is allowing users to have full access to WSJ, Barrons, etc content without having to 'Log-In'. I 'likey' very much ..
problem fixed By: clabasas - Aug 2, 2009 Version: 1.1.0 I tried the WSJ a few weeks ago and had to delete it because it crashed too much. I saw some recent reviews and gave it another shot and now it works just fine. I am glad that the developers finally fixed the app and I am enjoying every second of it. The content is very well layed out and I haven't seen any ads as stated by some reviewers. I went to every section to see whether or not there was some difficulty switching from one section to another and found out that it was easy and quick. I also tried the videos and was delighted by their content and clarity. Thanks to the developers for fixing the problem.
Excellent Content. Free for Existing WSJ Subscribers. By: ts232 - Nov 2, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 I am mystified by all of the bashing going on here. The app works seamlessly with my existing Print/Online WSJ subscription and does not require any additional fees. If you don't like having to pay for your news then there are plenty of other options out there in the dying free news media echo chamber, however there is no such thing as a free lunch. WSJ provides unique, relevant and insightful content that is not available anywhere else. Millions of WSJ subscribers out there know this already and are happy to pay for their content, most of them however are too successful and busy to spend their time writing reviews on the app store. I think WSJ needs to clean up their marketing for this app to make it more clear how it integrates with existing subscriptions.
Changing my review By: clabasas - Oct 31, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 I recently wrote a bad review for this ap and I am going to change that. I was having problems accessing articles available to subscribers only even when I was one. I called customer service and they fixed the problem right away. If you are a wsj subscriber you should not have any issues at all, articles are great and for my line if business it's great to have the ability to access my news on the go. Already my favorite ap
Cancel My Print Subscription! By: SaniDel - Jul 22, 2009 Version: 1.1.0 CNN offers an iPhone news reader, our local paper does the same and the WSJ offers one for the BlackBerry. Now there is no reason to maintain a print subscription to the Wall Stree Journal as their news reader obviates the need. Of course, they will increase the cost of subscription to the online version, but it's better than all that wasted newsprint. My only complaint is the sponsor banner at the bottom of the screen ... haven't found a way to make it go away and I'm not interested in their product. Otherwise, it's what I've been waiting for and it's about time ... we should get what the 'Berry users have. SaniDel P.S. It works even better in landscape orientation.
Nice to see....but By: MikeMpls - Jul 22, 2009 Version: 1.1.0 Update July 2009 - this app just started crashing today - can't get it to stay open - was working fine and I enjoyed the app. Was pleased to see they finally came out with an iphone application - however, this app seems a lot like the New York Times application in that it has the very large ad pasted on the bottom of the screen which never goes away - it just sits there, staring at you, taking up valuable screen space. I really hope the NYT and WSJ take a cue from the USA Today app and the Bloomberg app - move the darn ad out of the was after about 5 seconds - does it really need to sit there staring at me "ORACLE" in a big red banner. Hopefully these newspaper app figure it out and develop and ad-free version of their product that people can buy and then they can make some money - because I have no desire to click on the ORACLE add. Otherwise than that - seems like an ok app so far.

I love this app!!! By: ddcvitty - Apr 19, 2009 Version: 1.0.0 I love the WSJ, and I love this app!
To all reviewers who have complained about the size of the ads: get over it. You're getting the WSJ (well, most of it, anyway) for FREE. I will now save $12.95 per month by killing my paid online subscription (sad to say, but I probably would've kept the online version if they hadn't increased the price... There was just something about passing the $10 mark).
Remember, it's the WSJ for FREE!!!!
The Wall Street Journal in the palm of your hand By: the_vermonter - Jul 14, 2009 Version: 1.1.0 To all of the crybabies who complain about one little ad at the bottom of the screen, well you got the app free didn't you? To anyone else with some emotional maturity reading this, the app works great and gives you all the features of a great newspaper in a tiny space thats convenient to read. I thank the people who created this app for all their hard work and all the things you got right. This app gets five stars from a dedicated WSJ reader.
Excellent App - but... By: Im in charge - Apr 17, 2009 Version: 1.0.0 I downloaded the App today and when I clicked on the All Things Digital areticle about the Pirate Bay trial, the app quit and displayed my normal front page on my iPod Touch. Second time through it was OK. I agree the ads are a bit large, but they are way less than 20% of the screen, possibly 15% (splitting hairs) given their height (in portrait mode) is much less than the icon for each article, and there are 4 icons displayed. The rich presentation level - audio+video, and the varied content available makes this a winner.
Great update By: stollcri - Jun 27, 2009 Version: 1.1.0 v1.1
Much has improved in this update. It loads fast, the time from opening the app to actually reading an article has greatly decreased. On par with the USA Today app and much better than both AP and NYT apps.
v1.0
The app is buggy. If you go to open a story that won't be showed when the news gets updated, then it crashes. It always says it's updating sections, but doesn't seem to do anything, so I hit skip. Once the app and new articles are properly loaded it seems to work, but you have to wait.
I'm assuming that they will be charging for content in the near future, and though the content is great, I'm not sure I'd pay to access it through this app (especially with the ad in my face all the time).
Complete news experience By: Iphoneappy - Oct 1, 2009 Version: 1.2.0 Love the app, finally here. Love the finger flip on article pages, has what's news, pod casts, and videos. Finger flip let me read so many stories fast without having to download. I spent 15 minutes and had a complete news experience, performance is great. Amazing that it has all the news sections when you click more on the tab bar. I really like the option to save and email stories. Great for news snacking. Best option is the save option, I saved about 10 stories for reading offline before I got on the plane this morning.
Nice job.
Proven value By: Iselltoys - Oct 26, 2009 Version: 2.0.1 It's true this app was previously free. It's also true that I read the news on this app multiple times a day during that time. So now they want to charge $1.50 a week--far less than you would pay for the daily paper version and far less cumbersome. But, like all newspapers and other business, there are expenses to pay even if you are not printing on paper: journalists, overhead, etc. This is a quality paper that cannot exist on the fees generated by advertisements alone (seriously, how often do you click on those annoying ads?). I like this model. It showed its worth before it asked me to commit.
Gotta Love the WSJ By: WelshDragon2 - Jun 14, 2009 Version: 1.0.0 I had to cancell my WSJ subscription this year due to budget cutbacks. I was so pleased to find this iPod app. I haven't had the problems others have had... All I can say, is WOW! I love being able to read the WSJ again. I'm up early before work - have a cup of coffee & download the news sections I want to read & I'm good to go for the day. WSJ is the only news I read, and to be able to access for free - what a gift!
Been waiting for this By: NineToez - Apr 16, 2009 Version: 1.0.0 I got the tweet that this app was available & downloaded it right away. As a small investor and day trader, I flip through a few apps during market time on my phone and news on speculation or anything happening in the world can affect the markets thus affecting profits. Having all the WSJ resources available in one place vs. several individual RSS feeds, Twitter follows, and podcasts makes this an extremelly valuable & resourceful app indeed.
It's the Journal on your iphone By: loanflyer - May 18, 2009 Version: 1.0.0 I travel a lot, and this keeps me from having to search out a place to buy my Journal, or to have to read a stack when I get home. You get over the Oracle logo at the bottom after a day or two. It's very slick, and it's free. It cost .75 to buy the journal on my Kindle. Every now and then, it fails to update. When it does that, I have to reset my iphone, which takes about 3 minutes. Skype does the same thing. Inconvenient, but not a major issue.
At last it's here By: Skip Savage - 15-Apr-2009 Version: 1.0.0 I've been waiting for the WSJ to create an iphone app and now it's here. First impressions are good. It's similar to the NY Times app, if not a kissing cousin. The interface is clean, with a couple of exceptions. I don't know if the three buttons at the top (Articles, Video, Audio) are really necessary. They aren't for me. And the Oracle ad at the bottom could not be more intrusive. I know ads are key to the business model so that's not my complaint. It's the implementation. But an excellent app all round.
