I only had one problem with this app and that reviewing images were distorted but the latest update fixes that. Even before that, you could go into the native camera app and view them normally. Everything else is great. You get so much for 59p I don't know how people can complain. 59p! A chocolate bar is nearly that much and it's a one time use! Think about it for a second, if you bought a real camera and it lacked features you would be screwed because they can't get updated whereas this is different and the developer is making the effort to improve his app. It's not like the iPhone camera is amazing quality anyway, so why complain about an app which tries to correct some of it's flaws to begin with? I don't understand the unfair reviews for such a solid app.

Ok, as the owner of the 'Darkroom' app, I had to come to the conclusion that Apple just shut that app down, very upsetting...but anyway, this app does what it claims. Also the combos that work: 1. Zoom+big button+anti-shake 2. Zoom+big button+timer It is true that the anti-shake+timer doesn't work in combo, hopefully this function will be updated . Considering almost all of some very good camera enhancing apps have been eliminated, this one is very good IMO .

The Best of the iPhography (iPhone Photography) capture tools so far! As the editor for iPhography.com I'm not easily impressed but I definitely have to recomend this one. I will be adding it to my dock! It's fast & responsive, & the user interface is great. Very clean yet tells you all you need to know Not only is the new version compatible with the 3.0 update but they have also added zoom! It would be the ultimate if they added - anti-shake sensitivity adjustment, a multiple capture feature & a selectable ratio/crop feature (1:1, 16:9 etc) like square format or panorama would also be cool

I know how hard creating an app is. This is just amazing. The zoom alone, the sound capture the manuals and big button. There are small problems, but they are minute and I would not hesitate to recommend this app. I didn't have any involvement in making the app but it is amazing. Given time it will be #1 and 100% perfect. There were so many situations where I could have used this. Now I can!!! Get it.

Just what the title says! Just one suggestion, perhaps the zoomed in quality could be improved if possible somewhat? I did a test on camera genius and camera zoom by taking pictures of my parents and comparing side by side, it appeared that camera zoom has a better algorithm and produced more sharper and clearer images than camera genius. So perhaps this can be worked on?
All in all a great app and definetely worth the money I paid for!! :-)

I like this app. Got it mostly for the TIMER function but find myself using the zoom and "anti shake" feature quite often too. The BIG BUTTON is very handy. Couple of minor UI issues (e.g. would like to see the feature menu sense landscape mode and open in the correct "direction") but these don't take away from the performance. Would be nice if the photo preview could be done in the app rather than having to go to the iPhone primary camera app. Big THUMBS UP from us on this one! I have a feeling that many of most negative reviews are being written by competitor app staff. I have found the support folks to be very responsive to all suggestions and comments.

This is just my "pre-review". There are many reviews saying things like the pictures get grainy as you zoom, and it needs tap to auto focus. I'm not going to explain why now, but... THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE/GOING TO HAPPEN on the iPhone 3G. I do feel that the discription needs to tell people this sort of stuff (although I thought it was logic). Oapart from it's users. The app could not get much better. There is not one thing I can think of that I would change/add. (that's rare) Don't worry, the quality is as good as possible. Unlike camera zoom, it has many usefull features. This app should knock camera zoom out of 1st soon. I'm not one to buy apps, but if you take pictures at all, this is a must have.

i like all the extra functions (timing, zoom, sound capture etc)
but it would be good if you could add a flash.
alot of people have been complaining about how long the pictures take to save, and i am usually a very unpatient person so at first i was hesitant towards buying this. i did anyway (obviously) and i dont know what pople are complaining about! it doesn't take that long at all
overall a good app.

And yes it is better than the other one..I had the other and this beats it hands down especially with voice activation on takin photos..mix it with zoom and anti shake and get great results..as for all people hoping for a video recorder for the 3g then forget it..if someone did and was allowed to it would only be 15 fps compared to 30fps on 3gs..I have the 3gs and yes it's great and I would love an app to make a video at 120 fps for slow motion but it ain't going to happen is it..sell your 3g on eBay and sell other stuff and get the 3gs on pay and go and stick your sim in it and carry on your contract..it works out so much cheaper and easier..

This app is sooooooooo much better than camera zoom or whatever. This app has way more features that you will enjoy! Buy this app! It's worth .99, camera zoom is so not worth .99 that app should be free because all u can do is zoom, but it looses quality after half of the line bar. This app even has a timer! Get this app today because it's on sale for a limited time! But remember don waste .99 on camera zoom. If u want to get that app let me tell u this, it tool for ever to get the update for that app when OS 3.0 came out, so buy this app TODAY!

As a replacement for the built in camera it has the following advantages: 1) tap anywhere shutter vs tiny button on regular app. This allows you to easily flip the camera around and shoot yourself and a friend or stuff behind you with fiddling for a tiny button 2) camera shake sensor. Press the screen to shoot, it waits til the phone is steady. No blur (except if subject moves of course). Just those two alone, used together, make it a good replacement. Saving is a slight issue although you can keep shooting while the last shot is saving. Just remember to wait until the LAST shot is saved before exiting the app. No zoom in any app will ever make the phone have a real zoom so don't buy this app... Or any app, for the zoom feature. Luckily this app has other features that standout from the rest. Btw... 3gs users... It saves in 2048 mode if you have a 3gs... Very nice

....this is a great little app! Saving takes a few seconds, not an eternity. It's no worse for saving times than any other camera app I've installed (and in fact, it's quicker saving than Zipix and Camera Zoom). Added to that, the features are awesome! To be able to have anti-shake, big button (press anywhere to take a pic) AND zoom on all at the same time is much more than any other photo app has offered me so far. And the interface is clear, concise and simple to navigate. This takes terrific pictures, and with anti shake on taking a zoomed photo is almost as clear as an unzoomed pic...very impressive! Seriously, I am well happy with this. You want a simple, does-mostly-all, quality photo app? Get this! Five stars from me. :)

So I currently have Darkroom Premium, Camera Genius, & Snapture on my phone...I did a comparison test with the native camera; holding the camera securely on the table & without moving the camera, I took a photo of the same object. The I went to each picture, zoomed in the maximum amount on the same area & took a picture of each camera sample. Camera Genious clearly had better color saturation, definition, & less digital artifact...& I performed this test twice. I should have added my Photogene in app camera, but did not. After comparing Perfect Photo to Camera Genious earlier, I left it out of the test after I found it to be inferior (& inferior to Photogene). Now you may benefit from my expense!

Ok I use my camera a lot. And until now there was only one app that did zoom and that was Camera Zoom. The problem with that app was you didn't see the result of the pic you zoomed on until after taking it, it would blure the picture so much and one movement it would ruin. But with this app WOW, real zoom, works like any other zoom on any other camera phone. I don't know why apple is taking so long to approve these camera 3.0 updates, but I was using ProCamera, they promised digital zoom with their update and that was 2 months ago, come on apple. Hopefully when that update comes out it will be as good as this or better.

this app takes the camera app and improves it by a factor of 100. zoom feature, grid, stabilization all work exactly as advertised. the only quirk to be aware of is the stabilization mode sometimes takes a second or two to grab the phone, but this is due to to unsteady hands on the part of the photographer (as measured by the onscreen indicator) and not to limitations of the software. overall a steal at $0.99.

As usual, there are going to be tons of people knocking this app, like every other app, that doesn't make their iPhone pics look like they were taken with a Nikon D200. This app does everything it says, no more, no less. I love the big button feature as tapping the shutter on the normal camera was next to impossible when taking self portraits. The timer function with several increments has also come in handy. I thought the zoom took okay shots for a digital zoom, way better and less grainy than the other top selling zoom app I had purchased. I liked the selection of grid layouts and the anti shake as well. Of course the lag between shots can be time consuming, but I'm not taking photos of Nascar or airplanes flying overhead so it just takes getting used to. Stop complaining and go out and purchase a real camera if your looking for DSLR results. A camera phone is just that, a camera phone and this app adds some nice enhancements that weren't built into the iPhone. Worth every penny.. My two cents.!

Very useful (and stable) camera app

Version 1.3 definitely seems stable, I've had no problems with any crashes so far, and it actually seems to launch a bit faster than Apple's camera app! It adds quite a bit of new functionality to the camera: a timer (finally!), anti-shake, gridlines, using the full screen as a camera button... And the sound-activated camera is a really clever idea. Overall, a nice improvement on the iPhone's camera app.

Camera Genius

For starters, disregard any and all reviews in which the user claims the "zoom" quality is horrible. Why? Because these people do not understand the concept of digital vs optical zoom. The iPhone does not have optical zoom (meaning the actual camera lens has the ability to zoom) therefore our only alternative for zooming is digital zoom which essentially zooms and crops.
From Wikipedia: "A zoom lens is a mechanical assembly of lens elements with the ability to vary its focal length (and thus angle of view), as opposed to a fixed focal length (FFL) lens (see prime lens). They are commonly used with still, video, motion picture cameras, projectors, some binoculars, microscopes, telescopes, telescopic sights, and other optical instruments."
As you can see, the iPhone does not have this ability. With that said, this application functions exactly as it's advertised and it functions quite well. I haven't run into any bugs or otherwise sour experiences.
My only gripe, which goes beyond the control of the developer(s), is that the API for deleting images from photo album is a restricted API. This means that until Apple blesses (and makes public) this API and allows developers to use it, we will alway have to use the default photo applications to delete images.

First, anyone that doesn't understand that a zoom feature on a non zoom lens system is nothing but an in camera cropping tool doesn't understand basic camera functions. You will lose some resolution when zooming with this app so get over it. The functions all work like they say and some are more useful than others but overall this is simply a huge improvement over the app included with the phone. Well worth the $.99.
