Great App - A+ (could be A++ with some work)

I have purchased 50+ apps and this is the first one I have ever reviewed – why…because this is an important app. First and foremost…great app and well worth the money; so go buy it now. HOWEVER, I do hope Apple continues to upgrade this app. More theme music is a good place to start. Also, when you want to add photos from your camera roll you should be able to click on MORE THAN ONE – AND – you should be able to start at the end (most recent) of your photos. If you have hundreds of photos (or worse, thousands) it takes a L-O-N-G time to scroll down to chose each one. This isn’t a knock…rather just some helpful advice for Apple.
Bottom line, GREAT APP. Well worth the purchase…so stop reading this and go buy it already!

TIP: How to trim a clip.

I noticed many comments complaining that you can not trim a clip in iMovie. Well that's true, but you CAN trim a clip BEFORE you use it in iMovie. All you need to do is the following: 1) open the Photos app 2) find the clip you want to use and open it 3) tap once in the middle of the video then use the trim tool at the top 4) click the trim button, then decided if you wish to overwrite the original or save as a new clip.Using this technique you can trim and split clips into multiple parts in preparation for us in the iMovie app.Hit the YES button if you found this helpful.

Loving this version of iMovie. It's fast, does what it's told and produces some really nice results with the amazingly good camera on the new iPhone. It's clearly a rather basic app at the moment though in terms of deeper editing features - you can create some great looking stuff and do nice quick editing, but hopefully in future Apple will carry on updating it with extra transitions and so on. For £2.99 though it's a fantastic excuse to shoot lots of HD video!

I love what this app CAN do but I hate what it doesn't do and offer to the die hard apple folks who know what this app is capable of... Pics can't have titles, not able to narrate movie, music is either on the whole time or not in movie. And more themes would be nice, I could list more but I truly love what I've been able to do! the hd video & pics help allot but it needs more features and options to be the great imovie app we all paid for and know isn't far away! A couple more updates and I'll throw my hand held cam out for the trash man!! BUY THIS APP!! Five star contender!!!!!

All u ppl moaning leavin 1 Star cos you buy an app for the iPhone 4 when you have a 3GS try reading it right and you won't have this problem ... An as for the rest of you oh it don't have this it don't have that ... Wait for updates im sure there will be more than the one that has just come out!!! stop ya moaning for £ 2.99 it does what I thought it would ... There I said what I gotta say so if you want an app that puts clips together nicely this is for you .... If you want your iPhone to make u a cuppa tea or run u a bath then this is not for you 

I would certainly like to see more features, themes, editing abilities, features, etc. But it's a fantastic start. It's hard not to see how a great app like this could be better when you play with it for a bit. But it's kinda like taking the first car out for spin and wishing it had a cup holder. Don't rate this app anything but a 5 because you want it all right now. Appreciate what it is, anticipate updates.

I have a 4G  & works as advertised. It could use a tutorial but if you play with it you will figure it out. It does need more effects. If you are looking for some super advanced video editing software then use your computer. Remember, this is still just a cell phone. This app is perfect for making a slide show with music right off your phone & emailing it. It also works great at putting a few short movies w/ music as well. If you have a 4G  then don't hesitate to buy this. 

Just a heads up for all you iPhone 4 users, you can actually SMS a 60 second video made with iMovie for iPhone to other iPhone 4 users! Sound quality is slightly degraded though. Unfortunately it doesn't work when you SMS it to iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3GS that have been upgraded to iOS 4. I don't know why exactly but we've tried tried several times and it just says its unable to play file. This is a great program! I went on a trip this weekend & took a lot of pictures & videos with my new iPhone 4 & was able to merge several video clips & pictures together to send them to my Grandmother who was unable to come with us. Best part was since she just got a new iPhone 4 also, I was able to SMS it to her! She has trouble figuring out e-mail...lol.

I wonder why people give this App such harsh reviews. If this was an App from and other developer, it would be rated much higher (and probably cost a LOT more). It's pretty amazing what this app allows one to pull off on the fly. I was able to edit a video of the 4th of July fireworks and have it emailed to extended family before I got in my car after the show was over. It makes the iPhone 4 a whole new beast. I love this app. Apple will upgrade it I'm sure in the future, but it is so far ahead of anything else available right now, I have to give it five stars.

Anyone who has used iMovie on the Mac will know how fantastic it is for even a novice to make great looking movies.How many people have lots of video footage stuck on their camera's or saved to their computer and haven't looked at it since it was originally shot because you've always had plans to edit it? I bet its on that to-do list of things that never gets completed or even started right?I've been involved in tech all my life and even I find it surreal to think that you can now take a bit of footage on your phone and instead of having to download it to your computer and spend hours editing to make something watchable, you can now send a pretty slick movie to others to watch all from the phone itself!Other phone manufacturers are trying to keep up with Apple by offering similar hardware specifications, sometimes even better to try and get an edge, but having the hardware alone is just not good enough. Its the software and the attention to detail that brings everything together that matters.

Updated.... They fixed the issue with the latest update. Therefore, re- rating them 5 stars. It's a great start. Hopefully they will add more functionality. Don't mix video with pictures! It can't handle it! At least, don't make it longer than a minute! I spent a while editing a great family memory ( 5 min video mixing video and pics) and find myself extremely upset since I can't share it or get it out of my phone. No matter what the export resolution I pick it crashes. I am a huge apple fan boy, and criticizing them doesn't come easy, but this is a simple mistake and should of never happened.... Kind of like the bad reception issue the iPhone 4 is having!

This is a really fantastic app. The fact that you can do all this stuff on a phone is remarkable. But there are some things that are needed.1. There is problems with the app crashing. Seems to happen when i scroll thru the video/project to get to a certain part. When makeing a 15 min video of my kids birthday party. I have a video some pics and then 3 more videos. it seems the app doesnt like scrolling forever to get to certain parts. Seems like it's a memory issue. I would suggest a better way to skip to the next video or pic on the project. thus this would make the whole thing alot easier. and i am sure it would eliminate the crashing.2. There needs to be a way to add a 2nd audio track. And if there is a way someone needs to show me. The songs i add show it for the whole durration. Yet the song lastest 3 mins and the video was 15 mins long. This is a major prohlem for me.3. Better themes or just more of them. Some of themes are just boring. How about like birthday themes and holiday themes. This just makes sense. I aplaud apple for making the app so good. And am thankfull for the cheap price. But we all need and want more. The stuff i am asking for isnt to much to ask for. And it would make this app alot more popular.

Please to all having troubles, read the iMovie support page. Outstanding info, and will have you editing like a mad-dog toot sweet! Read the requirements, and watch the promo video, iPhone 4 only peeps! Read! I was having troubles editing as well, till I read the FAQ and then bam! The videos are flying out. This is outstanding, and I hope they figure a way to drop plugins for this bad boy! Great job again! Also, the ability to split clips, drop multiple sound tracks, and use a basic or blank/plain theme. And more themes! And to adjust clip audio level would be awesome too, sometimes the ducking isn't enough. But still, WOW!

Love this app...but could use some simple things

This app is great.. however...some issues with trimming and not being able to change the music or add to it once it ends... bother me a bit.I had long clip and it was very difficult to trim the clip down. I found it easier to do it with the iphone movie trimmer then put it into imovie. Also.. I was unable to tag a spot to reference. This goes hand in hand with the trimming. two things that are a must for this app. Other than that...I made a quick video of the line for the iphone and showed it off to the people there. everyone was very impressed.

Ok, so a lot of people are not content with this App and giving it 1 star. They say it needs this and it needs that. First of all you know you're trying to edit a movie on your PHONE, right?If you want the full blown version of iMovie, go to your computer and edit there. This is a fun app to pass the time doing simple edits with the movies you shot with your PHONE. So if you want to have some fun editing your HD video on your phone get this app.BUT! Remember it is only a PHONE, not a professional editing system.

This is an exceptional app for the iPhone 4. The level of detail they went to for this first time iPhone app is remarkable. I have played with it quite a bit and before using it I had no prior knowledge of movie editing or transitions or application of music. This program is so simple to use but provides a very professional level of detail. I didn't even think twice about purchasing this app. My only complaint is that when I select to export my finished product the app tends to crash even on the medium setting (lowest of the 3 available export options. But I have complete faith that there will be an update to remedy this problem.

While it might be light on features compared to its big brother on the Mac, iMovie for the iPhone 4 is still stunning. The ability to import your high definition video previously recorded or record straight into the program as well as edit and add transitions and themes makes this the hands-down best movie creation tool on a smart phone...possibly the only one!Being able to take your creations and share them to the web with a frw taps of your finger makes this a tool that will see usage grow exponentially in the coming weeks. No iPhone should be without it and at $5 it is a steal. Here's hoping we will see more features from the larger iMovie ported over in time.Get it now!

This app is great. Very easy to use and in 10-20 minutes I had a very well made video with music and subtitles.A couple suggestions that I ran into while making my movie:1. Photos: There is no way to create a photo slideshow with subtitles without creating the photo slideshow, then exporting as a video, starting a new project importing the slideshow video, and then adding the titles and re-exporting. This would be a great addition in the next update.2. The ability to time the captions for entering and exiting the film. The video is small on the screen and some of the themes subtitles cover almost half the video. Timing for entry and exit of captions would be another great addition.Other than those two items, this app is well worth the $5. I will be using it to create great videos for sharing with family and friends!!

So I recieved my iphone on Tuesday. Drove down to Key West, FL on Wednesday with a couple of friendsjust to have fun before we embark in our europe trip tomorrow.I recorded video using my iphone 4 to test it out since I plan on strictly using the phone on my journey to leviateextra weight (cameras etc)I just edited the video using imovie for the iphone and exported in 720p. WHOA! I am amazed and excited thatmy new gadget will complement me well on my trip tomorrow. The quality is superb. Transitions, text, intros you name it you have it.Well worth the price for a mobile video editing software.If you have an iphone 4 and your recording @ 720p there is no reason why this app is not in your list.the video recorded on my iphone played in a 55" samsung led tv was spectacular.

It took me a few hours to make my first iMovie, but now I can do it faster. I read a quick "how to" page on Apple's support page for iMovie that really helped. My friends were impressed with the final cut. They couldn't believe I did it all on my phone, and in HD on my big screen. It wouldn't export if I adjusted pictures on anyway though, length of play or panning. I'm sure they'll fix that. Great product for a first version and definitely worth the price.
