Better than Photogene

I'm a serious Photoshopper & trawl the App Store trying out the camera & photo apps. I was using photogene on my iPhone before I got this & prefer Perfect Photo hands-down. Bought it for 59p so thought it was well worth trying. It doesn't have the frames & speech bubbles which just make photogene feel gimmicky. It DOES have a good shadows/highlight filter though & this is useful for lower light situations. Also very helpful is the auto zoom & preview when sharpening images. Levels works well too (I'd like to see a midtone slider though) as does denoise. True, some parts take longer to process than others even on my 3GS but it is not an unreasonable amount of time to wait for good results. You can always use a lower resolution if you want to speed things up - there are several options so just pick one that suits how you will use your photo. Would like to see a curves filter option added for the extra image control but other than that, highly recommended.

One thing that I couldn't figure out from the reviews is whether the Perfect Photo could crop to a specific aspect ratio. I am pleased to report it does. There are a few improvements that I would like to see in the next version of Perfect Photo: 1) At least one level of undo/redo! Sometimes you're not sure whether you like an effect until it's done on the full image, or you want to compare an effect with the original image. 2) I'm shocked that there does not seem to be a resize tool. Sometimes I want to make a lower resolution version of an image. 3) The preview of an effect is performed on a lower resolution version of the image for to make it seem speedier. The resolution of the preview is too low, making the image much softer, and making it more difficult to get a sense of how the effect will look. 4) The vignette/frame part of the vintage effect looks quite unnatural and bad. I will be glad to change this review to a 5  review if these are fixed Future enhancement suggestions: - A 2:3 crop ratio (iPhone's vertical display aspect ratio) would be great. It's a bit of a hassle to rotate the clip mask, then rotate the image back - A tone curve adjustment would be great! All in all, a really good app. Update: The 1.4.0 release seems to have greatly improved the speed of many of the operations of Perfect Photo. The developers are listening! 

I've purchased Photoforge, Photogene and Perfect Photo. Of the three, Photogene is the worst. I think Perfect Photo represents the best value, but Photoforge has the most features, most of which are very helpful. If you spend $1, get Perfect Photo. If you spend $3, get Photoforge.
I like that in Perfect Photo, when you edit a photo, you edit it in its full quality. In Photogene and Photoforge, the photo is downscaled while you're editing, so you don't really ever see the true quality of the image.
There are a few improvements that I would like to see in the next version of Perfect Photo:

Great feature set

I like this picture processing app. Love the features include the upload facility, its pretty zippy even on my 3G. The pencil and vintage effects turn out some cool looking pictures. However it has crashed on me a couple times (when saving a processed photo back to the photo album and when selecting to email the photo) hence minus a star. It has replaced my previous photo processing app, and is very well worth the current 99c.
Would like to see the ability to turn off the pop up 'load photo/take photo/options' it shows everytime you start the app. I use a different camera app to take photos so I always want to load a photo, so would like to have the option to go directory to that screen to save time and clicks.

This is a great little app that has some nice features which are actually useful! Performance has improved since previous release. Interface could be better but for this price the available functions more than compensate, particuarly compared to a similar app which is going for over 5GBP!!!

This is an excellent App for fast picture editing directly on the iPhone. Although some functions take up to 10-15 seconds, you can do a lot in several easy steps. Indeed there is nothing more you need for picture editing on a mobile device.

True crop and rotate makes this well worth the price. Slider controls, lots of lighting and sharpness controls - belongs in any iPhotographer's kit!

it's cool that they could fit it on iphone.
Plus I love the possibility to send my photos to facebook from the app. Very handy.
