Reviews:
Finally, photos I want from my iPhone By: 24gotham - Sep 5, 2009 Version: 3.51 To the haters of ToyCamera, you are probably right, this app is not for you. It won't let you choose images from your album, it is not simple to adjust filters with each shot, you can't redo an image after it has been processed. You don't get the point of this app, and that is completely OK. Too bad you didn't read about it first. To the lovers of this app... You love the very simple fact that, just like using an authentic toy camera (especially with expired film), you don't quite know what you are going to get, and that is precisely what what makes this app so very wonderful. As a serious amateur photographer, I have never been very happy with the camera on my iPhone.... Finally, I can get photos I actually want from my iPhone with this app. I really like that the result is completely random.... That is the nature of toy cameras anyway... other than color vs b&w, you never really know how your shot will come out in a Holga or Dianna.... Its the element of surprise that makes this app so much fun. I find that I turn to this app more than any other photography app. I was excited when one of my ToyCamera images (along with images from several others) was included in an online article about camera phone photography, in the New York Times in early July, 2009. It was impressive to see the number of featured images that used ToyCamera. Thanks Takayuki for putting this fine application together, and helping to keep the fun in photography.
Like PS in your iPhone By: iPhanatic - Aug 14, 2009 Version: 3.51 I use this app more than the iPhone's native photo application. Why? I grew weary of the commodity, digital images produced by the iPhone and wanted something that would add some "funk and punch" to my images . . . and this app does it. Sure, it's not too complex: a little over-saturation, some vignetting, etc. But the results come quickly and with no work on my part. The results stand out and my friends on Facebook notice. The app is stable with a simple but effective interface. Well worth the money.
incredible! By: iq222 - Aug 2, 2009 Version: 3.51 if you only get one app, this is THE one to get. it has many effects, which you can set individually or all to play out at random on a shot-by-shot basis (my favorite, each shot is a wonderful surprise). i took around 500 shots with this app the first day i had it, including about 30 comparison shots (that is, i'd take a shot with the regular camera, then one or two with toycamera) which i posted on flickr. the difference is dramatic, and the very next day i had admins asking to include shots in their groups. yipee! there's a toycamera group on flickr where you can see what this baby can do. impressive.
a must own camera app By: BKSBK - Jun 30, 2009 Version: 3.05 As far as I am concerned, Photography is the killer app of the iPhone, and Fukatsu Sensei's camera apps (Old Camera, Toy Camera and QuadCam) are the quintessential iPhone Camera apps. They emulate the much loved Lomo and Holga plastic cameras as well as beautiful vintage cameras from the previous centuries. The results are random (with the ability to control how random) and the pictures are stunning. These are apps that scream Apple in their simplicity and elegance. I look forward to more from the author!
Awesome app needs a few changes. By: MegThompson - May 28, 2009 Version: 3.05 I love the images from this app. However, like the iPhone camera you have to press a tiny button to take a picture. Just make the whole screen the button! That would make it much easier to take pictures when you holding the camera over your head or of yourself. Also, once you take a photo and go back to the camera you can't view your photos without exiting the app. It would be nice if there was a photo browser built in if only for the toy camera photos it would be nice.
If there was an option to "auto apply" effects. I can delete the photo if I don't like it, don't ask me to apply the effect.
Just icing on the cake, but if the effects were a little faster that would be fine by me.
These problems are small. Buy this app the photos that come out of it are beautiful.
To those complaining that you can't add effects to old photos or choose your effect are missing the point of the app. This mimics a toy camera, like a holga or any cheap camera you don't know how the picture is going to turn out. You get what you get that's the fun of it. . This is a toy camera simulator not an image editor.
Super fun By: ireviewsometimes - Feb 1, 2009 Version: 3.00 I own my share of actual toy cameras such as the Lomo and Holga and this app coincides with the idea of not knowing your results until you develop them. That is part of the fun! The results give you a nostalgic, warm and somewhat mysterious sense, which is the beauty of it. I use this app more then any camera now simply because of its convenience and awesome results. Features I like: Enable which effects you want simply by turning them on and off If you want only a specific effect turn the rest off Turn all the effects on to get a random surprise result!
Brilliant app duplicates Holga By: hard candy grrl - Jan 18, 2009 Version: 2.01 I'm shooting most of my photos with Toy Camera now. Sometimes it takes a few shots, just like it does on a real Holga. But if I've got the time to re-shoot, I ALWAYS end up with an amazing shot—the kind of pix that make people go wow. And the surprise factor of what you'll end up with once it's done processing your shot is pure delight. Lovers of lomography, this is SO your app. Thank you very much, Takayuki Fukatsu.
As much fun as taking analog photos By: elmofudge - Sep 18, 2009 Version: 3.51 This app is such a pleasure to use. Just like a holga or other actual toy cameras you never quite know what the result will be like. Because of this (and the fact the fact that some pictures don't come out well), it retains the magic of taking real pictures. It is full of little details that extend this magic. From setting what looks you want to include in its randomness to the little chirp you here after it "develops" your film.I've seen some suggestions that toycamera should allow one to import images from the photo library. I feel an addition like that would take away from this apps ethos of being a spontaeuos generator of captured moments. I was so happy with this app that I bought quadcamera and tiltshiftgenerator as well and would recommend them equally. They remain on the top of my iPhones springboard for easy access when I see a moment that calls to be captured. Hands down my favorite three "art" photo apps.
Spice your pictures with Toy Camera By: Toshi A - Oct 23, 2008 Version: 1.1 It's nothing like these modern digicams with tens of presets and tens of meg-pixels. Actually this tiny app offers nothing to configure, and nothing to worry about. It's that simple. You just have to click, and leave everything else to Toy Camera. Not only tasteful images of a good old toy camera, you will get a minimal, simple, and stoic feel of it. If you love to take pictures on iPhone, spice it up with Toy Camera, and you will enjoy your iPhones even further.

Great Photo App By: jcjvm - Jul 2, 2009 Version: 3.05 This app is great. It offers a great look and feel of a Holga - unpredictable, cross processed, vignette, etc.
I would like to see two features added though, then it would be a 5 app to me.
I would like to see the pics saved in high res, and not have the resolution downsized. Some people (me) actually like printing and doing things other than leaving the photos on your phone.
I would like to be able to select a photo from my library to add the effect.
As far as I'm concerned, this app and CameraBag are the only photo apps you'll ever need for your iPhone.
LOTS of Fun By: The Girl from Northern Southern California - Feb 21, 2009 Version: 3.00 This app has some very cool effects that I like better than some of the Camera Bag effects (which are really good, too). The ToyCamera color effects are especially good. The only problem is you can't pick which effect you get -- it seems to cycle randomly throught its selection. If you happen to hit the right combinaton of shot and effect, it's a real jackpot and worth the wait. But I really wish I had some control over what was happening. I'd have given this app five stars instead of four if it only had some controls on it. Nevertheless, I feel I got my money's worth, and I look forward to subsequent versions.
Cool app, has some bugs By: Shelter25 - Oct 25, 2008 Version: 1.1 This app takes really cool pics. Has some bugs though. First, it tells me after every pic taken that I need to reboot my phone due to low memory - it shouldn't do that. Also, the "warning" is misspelled and says "worning." I also wish I could use the toy camera effect on pics already on my phone. Please add this and the bug fixes on a future update. Overall, I enjoy this app and have taken some cool pics.
Really nice effects... By: JackoFyre - 06-Jan-2009 Version: 2.00 The photo effects on the toy camera app are really amazing and cool. My only gripe is that the effects are applied randomly... Although the randomness can be interesting, sometimes you just feel that the photo would turn out better if you had control and can choose which effect were to be applied. All in all, I still feel this is a great app that should satisfy the regular shutterbug and for those who want to get more out of the iphone camera. It's definitely worth it!
Great but not perfect By: Aiiiidan - 01-Jun-2009 Version: 3.05 Really love this a pp, it improves the iPhones camera tenfold. However it is missing some fundamental things such as:
- the abilty to preview different filters instead of random. Having to turn all of them off except for one is counter-intuitive!
- the ability to delete a picture after a
Filter is applied.. If you insist on a random filter you have to include the ability to bin it if it's not what you're after.. You just have to!
- a flickr uploadr would be great.
Brilliant app but please improve it a bit :) thnks
Great app By: Jam Master Jamey - Sep 8, 2009 Version: 3.51 Simple to use and fun to play with. If you're looking for photo editing software go buy Photoshop, if you're looking for a fun app to spice up your pics, this is it for sure.
