Reviews:
I love this app!! By: PeterM11 - Aug 16, 2008 Version: 1.0 I had been waiting for this app to weeks and I was not dissapointed one bit! They did a great job!!! And as if this wasn't good enough they actually reply to your emails! And they are planning on widening they're compatabilities (wood cant wait RTFs) and add the feature to move files around!! And because everyone wants it so bad they are even considering (down the road if course) to let you edit your documents in it from the iPhone/touch!!!
Keep up the great work guys!!
Kudos!!!!
P.S. Apple doesn't allow developers to access the USB cord so you can't transfer things over that.
And there are walkthrough videos for both windows and mac in their website.
Updates is even better. Upgraded rating to 5. By: sippycup - Sep 18, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 This is one killer app. Just bought it. Fired it up and right on my left column the drive and folders were right there. Drag and drop and it all transfers wirelessly. You can hide your private folders after you transfer files also. So easy to use for taking documents with you that you need, without having to fire up your laptop. I hope adding the ability to email files out can be added one day.
It works By: Dromquinna - Aug 15, 2008 Version: 1.0 Very nice application that does what it claims it will. Setup was very easy and transfers are fast and painless. Of course, the setup wouldn't work at the office since the network is so big and protected. Don't tell ISD, but I turned on my WiFi and set it for sharing. DataCase finds my desktop instantly and iPhone shows up among all of the other PCs that i might connect to. The best part about this is that you just have to launch the app and it works! I haven't tried mp3 files yet--why bother since it is easier through sync. Keep up the good work
Fantastic Application By: John523 - Sep 17, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 I shopped around looking at many different file manager programs before finally settling on this one. The interface is so easy to use (I have a MAC) and transferring files is a breeze. They have also included some great features in their updates. You can now view files in portrait or landscape. There is a page up/down button, and a jump to the end/beginning button. There is also a great new feature where if you click on the screen while reading a document, the title bars disappear giving you maximum reading area on the iphone! They have a popup that shows a page counter. You can add bookmarks to documents, it remembers your last viewed page for every document, and it opens files very quick. Veiosoft has been great with updating this product and they answer support and question emails quickly. I highly recommend this product!
Excellent Pen Drive-Type App By: Alex_Alex - Jun 8, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 Not only can I back up my files but also open and read them on the go! File ransfer is really easy, all that's needed is to open Data Case on the iPhone and voilà - the iPhone icon shows up in the Fider's left sidebar. Click on it and you'll see the Shared Folders file. As you double-click on that file, an "Incoming Connection" notice appears on the iPhone, promptind to "allow" or deny" it. By allowing it, you can easily drag and drop files from computer to iPhone and vice-versa. The app works very well on my iPhone 3G.
Perfect Killer App By: DHinUK - Aug 15, 2008 Version: 1.0 DataCase is the perfect app for carrying files around with excellent AFP support and Finder integration as a result! I couldn't be happier with it! It sure does beat out trying to cache mail attachments in order to do the same thing only to find out that Mail has purged the cache of a particular file I need when I'm not within range of network connectivity. I would love to see iWork support in the future. Keep up the great work Veiosoft!
Wonderful File Solution for your iPhone By: momo8881 - Aug 15, 2008 Version: 1.0 The guys behind this program know what they are doing. This is exactly what you are looking for in a file container/sharing application. Veiosoft is very helpful and immediately responded to my request for password protection to access the program on the iPhone itself. They said that an option for this will be coming in an update next week! A multitude of security options are already available in terms of browsing your files from a computer. Don’t' waste your time with other data programs.
Exceptional Program and Support By: WeissWriter - Aug 15, 2008 Version: 1.0 I'm obviously not the first to praise DataCase, but it's a real treat to see a program that's worth the money, versatile, comprehensive and well-supported. This program lets you take almost any document with you on your iPhone so you can read it on the plane, train, or whenever you've got the time. I had a tech question and received a helpful response within 24 hours. The intro videos on the website are good, but I'd encourage the posting of somewhat more in-depth instructions, especially for FTP and other less-user-friendly options.
DataCase is an iPhone "must have"! By: LEGENDARYMEMBER - Sep 13, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 EDIT: Datacase update is great! Apple won't let it handle files over 1 gb though. Use phoneview or diskaid for putting files over 1 gb on your iPhone. Because of this, I'm not giving datacase a full 5 stars. Sorry.EDIT: I just updated it, and it works great! I'll bump it up to 5 stars! :-)Datacase is great, and does what Apple should have done in the first place. It feels great to have my files on the go! I bought this yesterday, and filled up over 13GB of my iPhone's memory through this app! I wish Apple allowed USB connection for storing files on the iPhone, but this is the next best thing. Great work on this application! Recommendations for future update: Make it possible to password protect volumes for iPhone use, not just computer use. And I have a wireless Mac OS X, but I can't figure out how to use the AFP connection. Please update the guides on the website. FTP didn't work with my Finder either. The computer said it wasn't able to copy files to volume, but CyberDuck was able to work.
Solid By: Sambuddha - Mar 3, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 I’ve been putting this through the ringer for about an hour and I must say it's a pretty solid app. One minor complaint is that it won't open .xlsx files. You have to revert back to the old .xls then reload it and it works great. However, it opens all the other file types that I've thrown at it. The only difference (other than price) that I can see between this and the other new program, MobileFinder, is that when you turn your phone horizontally DataCase will flip as well to make text much more readable. Both offer pinch zoom, but the horizontal makes text much more comfortable to read. Both are worth the price of admission!

So easy to use. Works like a charm! By: RyeMAC3 - Aug 14, 2008 Version: 1.0 This app is amazing. The best out of the three that I looked at. (File Magnet, Files). It works great and the price is reasonable. Your iPhone mounts in the finder instantly and all files move over as you'd expect them. Just drag and drop. No third party desktop app to deal with. That app is very easy to use. I especially like the drop shadow shown on the pages. It really gives me the feel that I'm flipping through a paper file. Portrait and landscape modes are supported. Just rotate your iPhone. Large pdfs load too. I tried a 33M owner's manual and it loads OK. Some pdfs that a rich in text and full graphics stall every full pages for a second as it loads. Thats OK I guess. No lock ups or crashes etc. pdfs, excel sheets and word docs are not a problem. Since I don't have a PC, I tried it in Fusion just to see. It works great in Windows too. So I'll have no problem with it at work. (I use a PC there) Just type you IP address in the Explorer window preceded by ftp:// and you're in. Your iPhone IP address is given to you right within the app. If you need files on the go, this is for you.
DataCase adds a key feature that should have been built into the iPhone By: Vic Healey - Aug 14, 2008 Version: 1.0 DataCase is available now on the App Store now for $6.99 and IMHO it is worth far more than that. This is the must have application for serious use of the iPhone or iPod Touch if you want to carry documents or Excel spreadsheets with you. It is extremely simple to use with Windows Vista or a even a Sun VM Virtual Box in Vista running your favorite Linux. Those who complain it does not work with Vista should not be allowed to chew gum while working with Vista. The added task overwhelms them! By extension it should work as well with XP but I seldom turn off this PC to boot XP any more so I haven’ t tried it yet to see if it is as easy. With DataCase you can use the left over space on the iPhone as a portable flash hard drive to move data from one machine with Wi-Fi to another via ‘sneaker net’. Quick Over View (Default Settings) Data-Case Drop Box is exactly that, a write-only location into which others on your network can drop files for you to view. Data-Case Shared Files is a read-and-write volume, so you can either receive or distribute files. You can add up to a total of sixteen volumes in the DataCase volume sub window. File Transfer is VERY FAST not like iTunes Coming from Windows or Linux, you can use an HTTP or FTP connection to transfer files. One the main screen with the Life Saver logo you will see some text at the bottom which you type into Windows Vista File Explorer tool bar or Windows Vista Internet Explorer too bar. Enter the text exactly as listed. You then can use the Vista graphical interface to drag and drop files to DataCase. Look at the iPhone screen immediately after you first start a session for either DataCase location. A pop up balloon will appear on the iPhone inquiring if you want to allow an incoming connection. You must click allow immediately. If you fail to catch it in time Vista will error out and you will not be allowed further access of the Drop Box or Shared Files folder until you close all your browser windows and start over. Tip To avoid this in DataCase go to the Volumes sub page and EDIT the default settings for Drop Box and Shared Files. Once the files are on the iPhone, you can view them natively if they're in MS Office, text, or PDF formats. Wave files and MP3 will play when launched by DataCase. You can view one picture at a time with DataCase if it is in an iPhone format but the native iPhone Photo Album is much easier to use for multiple photos. You can still store other file formats; DataCase just won’t open them for you. But it’s still useful if you need to have certain files with you at all times. I like the Life Saver logo interface which tells you how much relative space is being used and how much is available. The operative word here is relative as when you sync to add or remove content using iTunes the free space will change. When you run DataCase again you will know instantly how much space is still available. From the DataCase Volume Window you can select Edit. Then you can create or delete up to sixteen partitions with DataCase, and, when you do, you have some nice options. You can control how the folder is accessible (permissions, and which transfer protocols). There is an option to have iTunes back up your files. But since an iTunes backup is so butt ugly slow who would choose that option? This is probably more than you want to know about DataCase but it is really a feature Apple should have included with all their portable Internet touch devices.
Fantastic App By: woman on a Mission - Sep 11, 2008 Version: 1.1 Like Many of you, I too had issues with this app, After the updaet everything seemed to disapear and the App would Crash, I became Angry and talked to a Few people and came up with a Great suggestion Which has seemed to work so far... Knock on wood! 1. Delete the App From your iPhone. You will Delete all the information that you have added to datacase. 2, Update the App from Your COMPUTER. 3. after you update Sync your Phone to your Computer, Then add Data Case back onto your phone or ipod. 4. Test it out. IT should work. Good Luck! Again this is just a Suggestion It may not work for all! Be sure to have a bAckup of all your data!!! To Potential Datacase USers! This is a Fantastic App! Its Reliable Most of the time and I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I do! :)
Easy to use storage and reading By: Lester L - Feb 1, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 I have been waiting a long time for a simple, easy-to-use storage program for my PDF library. As a medical student, there are a variety of resources I can download through my university library in PDF form, including many of the medical texts available on Access Medicine. With Datacase, I can easily organize the files in folders, store them on my iPod, and then read the smoothly-loading/scrolling PDFs! (I previously had used Mail to e-mail myself PDFs, which had a slower loading time.) This app adds a lot of functionality and flexibility to the iPod.
Great product By: Mattelfesso - Sep 11, 2008 Version: 1.1 DataCase allows you to make a WiFi connection to your desktop computer. On the Mac this appears as network volume. Security comes from the fact that the connection must be authorized in dialogue box which pops up on the iPhone. You can also limit the read/write access to individual folders on the iPhone. This application goes a long way to filling a major deficiency with the iPhone compared to its cousin, the iPod Classic... It provides the ability to store files on the iPhone as a remote and portable drive. Amazingly it also provides a way to view many of these files as well. It is also remarkable that, from your desktop computer, you can access your iPhone via a conventional network connection (AFP on the Mac), through an FTP connection (by typing ftp://... into Safari) or as an HTML connection (by typing the URL into your browser). The home screen even provides that little circle graph which shows how much free space you have and how much is dedicated to each file type. A nice touch. I'm on a Mac running Tiger (OS v.10.4) and I ran into the problem with not being able to mount the iPhone volumes a second time without rebooting my desktop computer. The developer's website has a nice FAQ page and videos which explained how to use DataCase and answered my basic questions. Aaron also promptly responded to my support query by email. The updated version of DataCase (v.1.1) fixed the issues about unmounting and remounting iPhone shares when using OS 10.4.
Easy to use and stable By: GovernorBoggs - Jan 1, 2009 Version: 1.1.1 This app is easier to use than other competing apps I have tried because one has simply to browse into the iPhone from a Finder window, the same as one would do with any shared computer. Also, when viewing large PDF files (e.g. 25 MB) at least one other app I tried choked completely, but DataCase robustly allowed me to view the document, including zooming, scrolling, and sideways viewing. I realize that RIAA is no longer bombarding its customers with law suits, but nonetheless, it is comforting to know that DataCase allows folders to be kept private.
Awesome application! By: jhbletsch - Aug 14, 2008 Version: 1.0 Ever since the iPhone came out last year I have wanted a program like this to transfer files to and from my iPhone. I tried other solutions when the app store opened and they are fine programs but either require a special helper program to run on the Mac to send the files to the phone or have stability issues. DataCase delivers! It is supremely easy to use. I opened up a Finder window, turned on my phone and opened the program. My phone showed up as a drive and I was off and running - loading files that I need to have on hand. It allows you to create various subfolders on the phone that have different permissions and also asks for permission before allowing an inbound connection to the phone so security seems to be addressed. All in all this is an essential tool for any iPhone user.
Perfect! A must have! By: turwaith - Aug 13, 2008 Version: 1.0 I LOVE this application! It's exactly what I was looking for and more. It's extremely easy to use, it's quick, responsive and doesn't seem to have any bugs so far. I wanted to use my iPhone to carry around a lot of different files so I wouldn't always need my flash drive and that's exactly what this allows me to do. Even though it says "supported files" on the description it still allows you to store any file type on your phone but you can only view the listed file types. If you're having any problems connecting to the ftp check your firewall first. It's really easy to use so you shouldn't have any problems at all. I love it!
Easy. Useful. I'm happy. By: Derning - Aug 13, 2008 Version: 1.0 Excellent app! I've been waiting for Datacase ever since I saw the first Techcrunch article about it. I've been playing around with it all day, and I couldn't be happier.
It's super easy to use from either Mac or PC. The best part is that there is no client software to install; the regular file browser or web browser does it all.
I am now using my iPhone to store all my portable apps (from http://PortableApps.com). It runs like a charm.
Thanks for the great app, guys!
Amazingly simple and effective By: LittleTortillaBoy - Oct 9, 2008 Version: 1.1.1 I use to carry around a USB thumb drive, but not anymore with this app. While this isn't an every-situation replacement for it (per the requirment of WIFI [come on Apple, open the USB connection]), it works in my most common places and works perfectly. Able to easily transfer files from home to work, and thanks to the built in file viewer I can read my PDFs on the go.
My only gripe.. In a folder full of pictures, when your viewing a picture there's no direct way to advance to the next one in that folder. You have to go back out of viewing and select the next picture. So I'm really happy with my purchase, but I'm really hoping for a pic advance button (it's quite a pain showing vacation photos when you have to do three steps just to go to the next pic).
