Totally awesome!!! By: labrat1028 - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 Man this is great. I was just searching the web this morning to find out when this would be released and voila...there it is right on lifehacker. Very happy I can now use my voice account thru the iphone without a third party app. Plus it's free. For all those giving this 1 star becuase it is not compatible with the ipod touch...too bad. If you want a phone you gotta pay something...nothing is free. Quit whining.
Absolutely awesome By: mvstill - Nov 17, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 Thank you Google for finally releasing the official app! I've been dealing with a slow, buggy GV Mobile+ for 2 months and its great to finally have an app that doesn't crash, supports push notifications natively, supports auto correct, and gives me a favorites list. On top of all that it's FREE!Sorry Touch users, but Google Voice isn't currently allowing VOIP do it just won't work for you. Hopefully in the near future. Please stop rating down such an awesome app kist because it doesn't fit YOUR needs. It does everything it was designed to do and does it well!

Finally By: Report a Concern - Version: Google's first native app for Google Voice is not as configurable as GV Mobile+. The Settings menu only allows you to change the forwarding phone number. In the Settings menu for GV Mobile+ allows, you can change the following:- different GV mobile accounts- default area code- how often to sync the data- enable/disable "Do not disturb"- forward calls to multiple phones- call method (direct dial from iphone, call back using mobile or offline dial from the iphone)- enable/disable call screening. Two things the Google Voice app has the GV Mobile+ does not is the ability to add phone numbers to a Quicklist, for phone numbers you dial most often, and Notification.I did find a display bug in Google Voice. In the dialer menu, after entering a phone number, you click on the button to add this phone number to your contact list but if you press cancel, it returns you to the dial menu but bottom part of the dial menu (add to contact, text, call, backspace) is now hidden behind the main menu.
It is exactly what it says it is. By: David L. - Nov 17, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 Sorry to all those iPod touch users that don't understand what Google Voice is about. It isn't about having voip capabilities. If that is what you want, there are plenty of other apps that are better suited to that function. Google Voice is about having one number that can be used to reach you whether at home or the office or on the road. Add in voicemail translation to reduce time listening to messages and other great tools and this app makes it all the easier to access these great tools. I look forward to updated versions expanding it's capabilities. Great job!
iPod Touch support please! By: Dest747 - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 I don't see why this is limited to iPhone users, as the iPod Touch has a built in mic and speaker - perfect for phone calls. You're already able to make Google Voice calls via Gmail.com on any computer, so doing the same for the iPod Touch is a no-brainer. Anyway, I've tested this on an iPhone, and it's perfect. The app itself is awesome, deserving 5 stars. The fact that it doesn't support the iPod is not a contributing factor to how good the app is anyway. So everyone, please don't give it 1 star just because it's iPhone only.

Finally!! Thank you! By: Mickey Fan - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 It's great to finally see the OFFICIAL Google Voice App released on here. 2 things I wish they would have included: 1.) Google Talk connection and 2.) Faster Push Notification. Seemed a bit sluggish to start with. 3.) Also would like to see MMS available. Otherwise, I am extremely happy with google and Apple finally working together here. No reason I should ever have to pay for text messaging when I am already paying $25 a month for data (what is a text message? - DATA!). Thanks Google!
No iPod? No Duh... By: Nori Silverrage - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 Okay, so for all those 1 star reviews that say no iPod support. You do realize that in the description it says compatible with iPhone?!? It says nothing about being able to use it on a iPod. So how can you rate it a 1 when what it is missing is only something that you feel it needs? Maybe apple wouldn't let them make it iPod compatible, or maybe they are working on that... You really shouldn't be reviewing it if you haven't even used it.Anyway, it is a pretty nice application and I might just replace my texting plan with this and save a few bucks. The dialing works well and I like the push notification. Very nice job Google.

Best Google voice App By: Alpha-Oblique - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 I love the official google voice app. I have been using Gv mobile plus and as of late it has been nothing but a headache with constant crashes. But this app works excellent this is what I have been waiting over a year for. Please don't listen to the users that down ranked this app because it wont work on an iPod touch. Well obviously the iPod touch isn't a phone so there is no way it will ever work because you need a number. So once again thanks Google!
Finally... By: Report a Concern - Version: Glad google came out with this but it seems like its unfinished. No landscape, says you have a text still even after you read it, runs sluggish, longer texts doesn't expand the text box when writing, and no voIP. It will probably be great after a few updates but till then textnow linked to my google voice account is far superior. Was hoping this app would allow me to ditch the textnow but for now it hasn't.
GREAR APP BUT By: Report a Concern - Version: Many if you are wondering why you need to be on the 3G network to make calls with google voice. Google voice is not a VoIP it is a phone enhancement service. The service unites all your numbers into a common number, provides translated to text voicemails and a text plan. It is by no means a way around using your minutes or avoiding a cell plan. That said this app does everything it's supposed to do and it does it well.
Good... But not Great! By: SoulMusiq - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 THANK YOU FINALLY for getting this app back into the app store. I've taken a moment to play around with the app and here's my first impressions:PROS: *Push Notification is great. Now I can get rid of YouMail for keeping track of both my phones. *Good INBOX option, to see all your voicemail, texts, history, etc. at once. *Nice "Pull Down" option to refresh the current page with updated info.CONS:*Very odd SMS function. Unless you know the telephone number you want to text by heart, you can't send an SMS. You must first look up the number, manually dial it, then click the SMS button to get to the page for typing text. Google needs to fix this ASAP and make it like some of the other GV apps that appeared in the store before them. We should be able to type in a name or select from available Contacts. SO CRAZY to have to know the number first.*Having the ability to add a 2nd GV account to the app similar to GV Connect would also be a nice touch. All in all this was a good effort. But since GV has already had an iPhone app before, they should have known better about the SMS problem. But it's free, so you can't really go wrong in downloading it. Get it now!
iPod Touch Users STOP CRYING By: Bike4Work - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 Wow I never write reviews, but I am compelled to do so because of all the huge cry baby touch users out there. Take a deep breath are realize that google voice is for a device that HAS A PHONE NUMBER. Yeah I know there are workarounds, but seriously don't give an app 1 star just because it doesn't work for you. Get yourself an iPhone and don't clutter up the reviews with your babble. AS for the app I think it's a great start. Crashes a bit for me. Wish you had the ability to edit your google voice settings.
Great first version By: RandomMedStudent - Nov 17, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 Great that is has push notifications. You can disable texts being sent to your email in the google voice settings at google.com/voice that way you don't get notified of a text message twice. There is a bug where your contacts' thumbnails are incorrect but that is minor. The interface looks pretty but could be easier to use. An iPhone-like menu of icons such as in the facebook app is intuitive and easy to use. It'd be nice if google went with something like that. Overall, great app. 4 out of 5 stars until they make the GUI nicer.
Good start, needs static outgoing number By: SchaqFu - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 Time will tell whether the texting features and push notifications will stand up to heavy use. The biggest complaint I have compared to GV Connect is that this app calls a rotating list of outgoing numbers, whereas GV Connect (despite their warnings otherwise) always without exception dials the same outgoing number. That is an absolute killer feature combined with AT&T A-List. I think right now I will end up using the official app for texting and GV Connect for calls. Not terrible, especially since phone and text messaging are natively two separate apps on the iPhone and most other phones.
Mostly Insanely Great! By: Bobbywan - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 PUSH Notifications is the big deal here folks. And they work instantly! Only, it's a bit buggy. Sometimes the notification will flash on and disappear in a fraction of a second before you can read it. Sometimes the notification will stay but with no audible sound, just a vibration. The app flows nicely and the UI is surprisingly good for a Google product ;)Phone calls are placed instantly using an assigned number to mask your AT&T number and show your Google Voice number the recipient. Also, as I type this I'm discovering I can't get the app to connect on 3G! I've had three crashes and/or hangs since the beginning of my review. Ok it finally launched successfully on 3G when i received an SMS notification and touched "View". A personal preference: allow me the option to Delete not Archive messages. Google has always been this way about keeping messages forever. But I'd rather delete the "noise" than do so.
Good start By: Zachary West - Nov 16, 2010 Version: 1.0.1.436 A good start. Some bugs:1. Modal "sending" and "sent" dialogs are useless and irritating. Apple got rid of them in iOS: follow their lead. 2. Launching a push notification goes to inbox. It should redirect to the conversation. Especially annoying when the conversation is open and it leaves it. 3. My quick contacts all have incorrect images assigned to them. 4. SMS entry field often disappears against new contacts. 5. Adding number to an existing contact doesn't prompt for type and messes up the existing views.
