Description:

Groceries allows you to easily maintain a grocery list on iPhone.
List Items can be checked off, grouped by store, or section, sorted, or manually ordered. This lets you maximize the screen real estate on iPhone for the task at hand. It also prevents you from reaching one side of the store only to remember that you forgot an item on the other side of the store.
Common grocery items autofill from a dictionary minimizing typing. The dictionary is also used to auto populate store section, and unit fields. Never type an item twice as the dictionary will remember items you add.
Groceries is the same functionality as the Grocery tab found in the more extensive Listomni application from Ontomni. If you need more than one list, checkout Listomni instead!
KEY FEATURES
-Preloaded dictionary of over 700 common items.
-We group items on your list by section so you don't have to backtrack in the store.
-Hide checked items so they're out of your way.
-Organize the store sections to match your local store.
-Browse the dictionary by section to jog your memory of what you forgot
-Total costs of planned purchases.
-Flag Sale items and Coupon items.
-Remember prices from your last visit to the store.
-Quick data entry.
-Never type an item twice.
-Group and Sort List items the ways you want.
-Switch quickly between different views of your list.
-Email your list for printing, or just email a few list items at a time.
-Reimport items from emails on another device running Groceries
-Fully Illustrated Searchable Help.
-Shows the number of unchecked items in each list and in the app.
-Protect your data offline easily with Backups.
Forget Notepad. Forget Pen and Paper. Now there's Groceries!

Very Functional and Easy to use  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: balding bob - Feb 21, 2009
Version: 2.2.0
I bought and downloaded this on the way to do weekly shopping in place of my sick wife. Creating a new list from her scribbled notes, adding in weekly specials from the store paper, editing prices and per units, and checking items off as I added them to the cart was very easy. Basically soup to nuts (sorry bad pun) for anyone needing a great grocery list app. Lots of backend support and help files, easily explained with a great user interface.

This app is better than the screen shots you see  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: Mtkoren - Jan 29, 2009
Version: 2.0.1
I use two apps to organize all my things to get done -
1) I use "Things" to prioritize all my tasks and love its interface, flexibility, ease of use and dedication to GTD standards
2) I use Groceries Grocery List to do ALL MY SHOPPING - EVEN SHOPPING THAT ISN'T FOR FOOD!
Yes - what the screen shots don't show you is how incredibly easy it is to make this a fully customized overall shopping list. Whether at internet stores, department stores, tire stores - doesn't matter. The app integrates stores into every item and lets you fully customize and add your own, stores, units, departments. And whatever you did last with any item is ** remembered - including which store ** , so you just choose the item again - and entry is unbelievably flexible - you choose text (auto fill) or rolling lists - yet get what I'm saying?
And then - it shows on the screen your lists in order of collapsible store lists. And when you click on the store's title bar in the list, it shows just that store organized by department (or aisle if you prefer). It's a dream. Cause within each item you not only the department and unit desired, but you have item notes stored you can get to right away.
And yes you can even (the developer told me he is working on a more sophisticated version of what I am making the app do) decide to place items in a special department (there are limitations) that you know is just a recipe so if there is a recipe you do a lot and want to remember all the ingredients you just choose items for your list direct from the department and you can then know you have covered your recipe without even going back to it.
Anyhow there is only one issue that causes a crash if more than 3 new items are added to the dictionary without hitting done yet and the developer told me it will be solved in the next release.
If the developer were to add the ability to put in one's own recipes as a dedicated function (without having to duplicate items in the custom dictionary) then this app would get at least 5 stars.
I am very particular, and even though the graphics aren't as pretty as a couple of other apps out there, and the note field that shows up on each item can squish letters too much if the note is too long, the bottom line is this is a truly great app for day to day getting shopping done.
I do not work for this developer nor am I an acquaintance. I have had Palm devices prior to this iPhone going back since Palm started operations and have tried SO MANY different apps over time and have worked my Palms so hard that they had to be replaced every year or two (were they that unreliable?!). This Grocery app is worth more than every penny - it is a bargain. In order to fully use it I STRONGLY RECOMMEND after getting the app that you go thru the built in Help Tutorial one item at a time and you will nearly master the app and probably love it as much as I do.

Perfect  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: alizarin - Dec 28, 2008
Version: 2.0.1
Everything is customizable and intuitive to use. You can sort the lists all on one screen, by different section or store, you can customize everything about each specific item. It's easy to cross off each item and hide whole store categories while shopping. Although they have a database of suggested foods, you can input anything you want as well as any store you want. I've used it to make lists for non-grocery items at non-grocery stores. The flexibility is just what I need, since I don't buy the massive quantities of name brand junk featured in the other grocery program.

Perfect app for the type A shopper  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: Onehipmama - Dec 23, 2008
Version: 2.0.1
The two best features of this app: the ability to modify the store section names (I use aisle numbers of my favorite store) and customized views (ex: each item's quantity, aisle number, and description at a glance). I do not use the store feature -- haven't figured out how to make it work when you're at Trader Joe's and two items are exclusive to the store while many other items (like milk) are not, but I understand the appeal. Also, excellent customer support -- exceeded my expectations. Terrific app.

Excellent grocery list app at a great price!  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: Toffman - Nov 15, 2008
Version: 1.1.1
Having just got back from a quick trip to King Soopers, I can wholeheartedly say this is a great grocery list app. I love the customizable dictionary and how it organizes the items by the section of the store. Adding food items is a breeze and the built in dictionary does an admirable job. Things I couldn't find were easily added and reusable for later! It's certainly way better than trying to do a grocery list with notes (as some haters have suggested). So to sum up, a great app with a great price. Highly recommended!

Streamline your shopping!!  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: SarahG0529 - Nov 12, 2008
Version: 1.1.1
I used to walk the store five times to get everything I went for and still managed to forget things. LOL! Not anymore. This app is great and it can do so much more than just groceries! I added the hardware store, so I can remember things there to! Great for any shopping list! It even works in landscape! You can add any store, section, and item you need! Very nicely designed app! You need this one! A++!

Great app! Very intuitive & visually slick (+ Bug report)  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: Ross Pruden - Sep 2, 2008
Version: 1.1.1
I can echo all the great comments above—this is one great app for the iPhone. I'll be using it every day now for not just my groceries, but anything I need to buy at Home Depot or Petsmart (or anywhere else, really).
I found one bug: Under the sub-tabs (Dictionaries --> Grocery Stores --> Edit [button] --> The middle green icon (with multiple pages and a pencil) at the top crashes the app.
Otherwise, great app!!! Keep improving on it!!

Very Cool App  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: Gtronics - Sep 30, 2009
Version: 2.3.0
Since I bought this app I have been to several stores multiplt times and I haven't encountered any problems using it. It cut my shopping time significantly. More importantly, by updating the list at home every time I run out of an item, I always have a complete list when I get to the store and no longer forget to buy any items I need. This app is a good value and the latest update enhances it even more. I'm glad I did't buy a more expensive grocery app. Before buying this app, I compared all other grocery-list apps in the app store and thought this one was the best for price, features, and useability. I have not regretted my choice.

My Favorite Grocery App  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: seibu1 - Jul 30, 2008
Version: 1.0.0
This is a great grocery list app. It doesn't try to be more than it needs to be, so it's very easy to use. Graphically, it is really pleasing to look at, with nice understandable icons and good use of color. The interface is really well-thought out and having the built in dictionary of items and measurements is a real time saver. Also, the ability to add items to those dictionaries is also great. I'm really happy with this app, and the price is great. HIGHLY recommended.
Well done!

Works Fantastically  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: turfd - Jul 29, 2008
Version: 1.0.0
This application does exactly what it says. It allows you to quickly and easily set up grocery lists. It comes with a huge dictionary already installed and you can customize any part of it, from adding new items and units to changing them to whatever you would like. Any products you type are automatically added for next time. It looks fantastic, clean, and modern. In fact, it looks and feels like one of the native apps from Apple. It can't be beat for the price. Highly recommended. If any of the developers read this, I have a future update suggestion although I don't know how easy it would be to implement. I would love if the app was able to use your current location in some way. Say I added Target as one of my stores. The app could locate me and then tell me where the closest Target was. This could also work with categories, such as simply knowing the closest grocery store or pharmacy. Going beyond that, what if the app could look up store hours for you or even look up prices or inventory at a store that allows online availability searches. These could help move the app beyond just being incredibly useful to being a killer app.

Effective Shopping manager  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: BananaJr2000 - Jul 29, 2008
Version: 1.0.0
After looking through a number of shopping list managers that have been released since the opening of the app store, none seemed to address my needs. This one looked good and after purchasing it and using it I feel it suits my needs very well.
The app is easy to use, has a multitude of sorting options, and can group items by store, section etc. Data entry is pretty strait forward and the rolling wheels for amounts, sections and stores keep typing to a minimum. You can enter as much or as little as you need. If you need a brand you can use the comment section or title depending on how you want to sort. Modifying the lists on the rolling wheels was pretty easy (cases was missing, as was one of my stores) once you found where to edit the lists under settings. Once I found how to collapse the groups by touching the folder at the far left I was sold. Now I can click on the store I am shopping at expand the section I am in and pick up what I need. The app did close once during data entry but then did not close again and no work was lost when it did close.
A lot of attention was paid to the interface as each of the icons are clear in what they do and when you touch them they perform their action. The scrolling is very effective. If you have a group selected (either a store or section of the store) all the items scroll up under the heading as you move the list down until you get to the next section and then the previous section rolls off the top and the next section takes its place. Very well thought out.
This app does just what is says it will do, organizes your shopping trips and gets you through the store with everything you need in a well thought out and easy to use interface.

Visually well organised, and good mix of simplicity and function.  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: makip - 16-Jan-2009
Version: 2.0.1
I chose this app over other shopping groceries apps, as it looked simple enough to use quickly but with enough function. Have been generally happy, I would rate it a 5-star app for its niche if it improved the following:
1- Metric system unit support
(This is there in principle, as you can add your own units, however adding your own or renaming the existing "lbs" to "kg" does not affect the entire existing library of items. Too many items to edit each manually, and trying to change unit of item also crashes the app!)
2- Splash screen is on too long (1-2sec) when you want to add items quickly it gets annoying over time.
3- GUI improvements for faster & easier usability.
I found some changes to the GUI layout would mean it could be used more rapidly, in particular the things you use most often should be the quickest and easiest to reach. Also toolbar buttons would benefit from being slightly larger targets.
All in all, a nice app to use, thanks Ontomni team.
***** Update: I increased my rating to 5-stars as the team has improved the app. I appreciate how it now:
- loads faster!
- new views and sorting options. Its not hard to get the app to sort things just as you like.
- provides the feature to backup and restore your list - but more importantly to me, backup any unit & item dictionary additions all without syncing. This works via email. I went to the effort to enter metric units and many new items to my dic. and an application update erased all my customisations (an Apple bug). Restore worked just fine by clicking the email attachment backup file.

Love this app!  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: Jljb2007 - 26-Aug-2009
Version: 2.2.1
This program works better than I expected. It handles my grocery lists nicely - even with multiple stores that I shop at. With a little one time configuration, It sorts the items at each store according to the specific layout of each store. Then I realized that I could add any items to the list that I wanted. Office supplies, household items, etc. And I could just add the new store easily which would automatically appear int main list. They should rename this app 'shopping list'. Takes a bit of reading to figure out how to control the views, set the sorting, etc. But once you figure it out, it's an excellent little app. Well thought out.

Most used app  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: TikkaBoo - 14-Jan-2009
Version: 2.0.1
This is the only app I've paid for and it's more than worth it. I love that I can keep items archived in a "checked items" group so that I can go back and quickly uncheck them to bring them to the current list when I need to, without having to add them all over again. I have entered many store lists now (not just grocery stores) where I regularly purchase items and this has become the app that I rely on most for helping to keep my shopping organized and current. Couldn't recommend it more.

Ontomni make THE best shopping list on the App Store  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: LouiseC - 30-Apr-2009
Version: 2.2.1
I have purchased many shopping list apps, looking for the one that works for me and this is it.
It is simple to use and allows you to customise to make it perfect for your needs.
You can arrange the list to be displayed in the layout of your store – so, for example, dairy follows the produce section.
You can add prices to each product if you wish, so you can see the value of the all the items on your list or just those in your basket. It also is really helpful to keep an eye on the supermarket prices – because you know exactly what you paid for that item the last time you purchased it.
You can set a budget – and modify the list to ensure you stay within it either before you get to the store or while you are there.
Unlike other shopping lists you have the option of leaving checked items visible. If you wish they can disappear from view after they have been checked but I find this helpful when I am checking my receipt after I have left the store.
There are also certain items that I can only get from certain stores, Groceries takes this into account as well.
I have been immensely happy with this app.
I have found Ontomni customer services very helpful and prompt.
The high quality of this application has led me to purchase some of their other applications and I am equally pleased with them.
Very highly recommended.

Love This App!!!  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: ITmom - Mar 12, 2009
Version: 2.2.1
The app is SO in tune with how we shop as moms. I say moms because we're USUALLY the only ones who'll visit several supermarkets in one day to catch a deal. I can hit 3 markets,Target and the pet store in one day. So I really appreciate being able to create separate lists for each store. Sort by departments. THAN I can even REARRANGE the store departments based on THAT store and how I shop there. I have a set routine of the path I travel in each store. Since I can rearrange departments, the areas I visit first are at the top of my list from the time I come in that store. The option to JUST view the items in that isle if I want, helps me stay focused so I don't leave that isle until everything cked off. Than I collapse it than view items in the next isle. You can also EASILY move an item to another store if you change your mind....for example I was going to buy Peaches from Market 1...but their peaches looked SOOO bad... I decided to get them elsewhere, I simply tapped that item and changed it to Market 2. Now when I go to Market 2 its on THAT list instead.
The more I use it the more I LOVE it. The Budget feature is also AWESOME, It tracks how much I'm spending, which I need to keep me from impulsive shopping. When I make my list at home I estimate the cost of each item. When I'm at the store & ck it off my list, I can opt to enter the actual price, than it recalculates the total. These are ALL extra features, you don't HAVE to turn them on...But I use it. The program just makes SO MUCH sense. If you are a person who takes making grocery lists seriously like me than this is the app for you. If your someone who only buys 5 items at a time than you may not appreciate this app it as much. But its very easy to use. The GUI is great! Easy for the eyes to follow when your shopping.

still enjoying it  rating of Groceries Grocery List

I have looked at other lists, both before and after purchasing and this seems to be the best still. I'm loving the new features, and the only thing more that I could ask for is a list of staples that we could us to pre-populate items (Bread, Milk, Butter etc.) that I forget to put on my list weekly. Other than that I love how much time and money this app has saved me from running to the store again and from printing the list weekly!

Really Good App  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: d. w. hawk - Jan 11, 2009
Version: 2.0.1
One of the reasons I got the iPhone was to consolidate the number of things I had to carry with me to be efficient. And with three guys in the house, I'm running to the store quite a bit -- needing a grocery list every time. This little gem does the trick quite well.
I STRONGLY agree with the suggestions that adding an adjustable price calculator/monitor that would immediately add the cost of my list and/or keep a running total while I'm shopping would be a welcome update. I don't have to have everything down to the penny when I check out, but it'd be nice to at least have a ballpark figure.
If you're planning on buying this app, be prepared to spend a little time at first entering items into the database to customize your list.

Almost perfect  rating of Groceries Grocery List
By: Gr8bbalive - Dec 5, 2008
Version: 1.1.1
This app is fantastic. The only little bug I see is that the order of the items to sort are not saved when change is made. Also, it would be nice if there was a toggle button on the screen to take away all sorts so you can search for something and then go back to the default search. Lastly it would be nice if you could but the alphabet on the side so you can quickly go to the first letter just like the contacts has. These are tweaks but I have it set so that each item knows the isle it is on so when I go to the food store i know exactly what to get in each isle. It makes shopping a breeze! Thanks!
