Grocery Gadget - Serious Shopping Simplified
Great Shopping List Tool
By: VirtualPanther - Jul 27, 2009
This is a very well designed shopping list application. It allows creation of many shopping lists (say, one pers store or category) and customization of each. Many standard products are available for selection from existing database, while customization or creation of a totally new entries is a snap. An increadibly valuable feature is ability to sync two shopping lists on two iPhones wirelessly. Whenevr I or my wife remember something we need to buy, as soon as one of use adds it to the list, it is available to both of us - effortlessly! Great job, developers!

I'm so excited about this app that this is my first review I've written! It is exactly what I was looking for. I was impressed with how many items there are to choose from, I haven't had to manually put one in yet. And it's so easy to "check" the items off with just a tap as you shop. this makes shopping with a 3 yr old and 1 yr old so much easier. The only thing that could make it better would be a way to track the cost of items, but I'm not going to complain, it's one of the best, most useful apps I've found so far.

This is quite possibly the most useful program I have ever seen! I am frankly floored by the ingenious way they have facilitated both the preparing and the shopping process. Click off items in the most convenient way they are found in the house, then when you shop, the program even learns the order in which things are found in the store! Online sync and entry, access from multiple users, I am highly impressed!! Zero out purchased items and even create your own lists. Wow.

I first had the free version and it was good enough to make me want to get the full version! This awesome program is built with the budget minded in mind as well as the person who needs to get something from the store quickly but doesn't remember which isle the item is on. This was the best money I ever spent on something so personalized for my iPhone! I can't give it enough stars, so * * * * * * * * * * here are 10 more!
I love this app
By: biblestamps - Jul 21, 2009
Grocery Gadget is user-friendly, practical and without a doubt one of the best apps I have. It makes writing a shopping list and using it at the store SO simple! I don't mind shopping half as much as I used to. I signed up (free) for the online access and it was so easy to make a list of a couple things I needed my husband to run in and get after work. (And it was fun to watch it update on my ipod at home as he checked the items of the list...ok, so I am easily amused...) Adding items to the list is easy, too, even if you have to add it from scratch- though the list it comes with has quite a bit of general things you probably buy already. It is quick and simple to add prices while at the store, too. One thing to note...the tax is defaulted to be "on" on all items on the list and all new items you enter so you have to remember to turn it off on all non-taxed items. That is a bit of a pain if you live in a state that doesn't tax groceries since that makes up the majority of your list. But, you only have to do it one time (to each item) and then it is set for that item...just a small annoyance when you first start using the program, that's all. This app is definitely worth the price. Oh, and I had a question on a feature and emailed support...had a response the same day. Nice app, nice support- doesn't get much better than that. Until you look at their upcoming feature list that is...;)
This app has been worth every penny!

I bought this app after I bought grocery iq because grocery iq did not fit my needs. For me, the best things about this app are the ability to take the photos of the item (this saves my husband!) and the fact that you can type in your own name or generic brand and put it in whatever category you need it to be in. Or you can change the name of one they have listed. This is a wonderful app and I am really glad I bought it! The customer service also seems to care what we think and tried to update & make it better as needed:)
Pretty Darn Great!

I love using this app. I tried an app that builds your shopping list via recipes or your weekly meal plan (which I do use separately) but I prefer building a list of my typical items using the Weekly List. I recommend starting to build your weekly list by selecting items from the app's built in list and clicking add (took a min to realize you could add more than 1 item at a time) then go through & create your custom items. The video tutorial wasn't very helpful but a few minutes of building lists & I was all set. Love adding details a pictures. Would like categories to be collapsable. Price & tax features very useful. I love getting to move items in the list so they match the order I shop at the store. Truely an easy and wonderful app!

I tried nearly every free shooping, to do list, and project planner app. that was out there, and by marathon mile this one so much better. It is also one of the cheapest, and I can even mail my husband what to pick up on the way home. This gadget is better than paper. It may take a little longer to compose each list, but the ability to flip up and down a list and reset it for the next trip is worth the extra time it takes to set it up. Seriously, use this one- you won't be dissapointed.
By: Mommobile - Aug 29, 2009
Love it! We just saved 1,000 trees! No more paper lists! And I can add or delete one-time items, customize by defining a specific brand or size--this is great! And my husband uses the Lite version as his lists are usually just for one meal or one trip. I love that you have the ability to remind yourself that you have coupons by using the item's comment section. My purse is now about a pound lighter (I'm carrying much less paper these days!)!
Best iPhone App I Own
By: se1961 - Jul 14, 2009
I have been meaning to write this review for awhile-- this is by far my favorite application for iTouch. As other reviewers say, it is a very feature dense application, which can make the screen a little cluttered, and the learning curve slightly (only slightly) higher than other grocery list apps. But, the pros leave these minor cons in the dust:
1. developer response is extraordinary. I have written multiple times with bug reports, feature requests, and I ALWAYS get a courteous thoughtful reply in less than 2 days. In every case, my issues have been resolved, sometimes by explanations, and often (this is the part that blows me away) by changes in the software itself.
2. the many features mean that you can customize this grocery app to do almost anything you want; once you have figured out what works for you, you can just disregard the features you don't use. For my part, I don't take pictures, I don't enter taxes, and I don't use the "auto sort" feature (good idea, but doesn't work well unless you shop from the same basic list every week). I DO use the application to keep an up to date inventory of my pantry, and my freezer, in addition to making shopping lists (you can save multiple lists, and organize each list differently-- ie, sort by name, by "department", by order purchased).
3. the web portal (free) means that you can share your lists with anybody in your family who has a computer, and/or an iphone. In my house, since we only have one touch, other family members log on to the web portal, add their items and print lists if they are doing the shopping. Items they add will automatically appear on my iTouch when I go shopping. The sync feature has always worked beautifully for me.
4. Import/Export feature: I create shopping lists in BigOven software, which generates automatic shopping lists based on recipe ingredients. Save those shopping lists and import them into grocery gadget. Sync with my iTouch and go shopping. Whole process takes less than fifteen minutes. There are now three import/export formats, including .csv, which means, you could import shopping lists from any recipe/menu generating software that can create a .csv file.
Some of the negative reviews are based on a buggy version of the software which has since been fixed. And some are based on a day when the servers went down and the web portal temporarily disappeared-- the only time it has happened since I started using the software (and I got an immediate response to my email query reassuring me that it was only a temporary outage). Don't let those reviews scare you away. Check out the MacWorld review. This app has streamlined my shopping experience to the point where it's almost fun.
Great over-the-air-syncing, push notifications would make it perfect
By: ahistorian - Jul 12, 2009
This is an excellent app. The over-the-air-syncing is nearly immedate, and is what sets this app apart from the rest. If I'm out and about, my wife just updates the shopping list on her phone, and I can check to see what she updated. What would make this even more ideal would be the incorporation of Push Notifications, so that I don't have to manually check — upon her updating the shopping list, I would know there are things to pick up. Which might, on second thought, prove to be a double-edged sword. :-)
My wife and I, like some others, weren't able to connect to the database on July 11, the day of the update. It seems to have been fixed the same day. However, it did lead my wife to creating a new account. I went online today to erase the old account from the server, but found no way to do this. If stagnant accounts aren't automatically erased, perhaps the dev could enable a way for people to shut down their accounts online?
The ONLY grocery app allowing LIST SYNC with other iphones!!
By: SuperSpumoni - Aug 25, 2009
This is the only grocery app that synchronizes your list with multiple iPhones or ipod touch!!!
My husband and i share grocery shopping duty, and we shop often in our own time separately. Syncing list helps us know what's bought or needed, without us having to check with each other. It synchronizes automatically and instantly, while you're logged in 'group' which is super mega easy to set up. you can even check and manage the list using web browser.
If i was single and didn't share my grocery list with anyone, i'd proabably prefer grocery IQ since it's cheaper app and has almost the same function as grocery gadget. But for those who'd like to share grocery shopping list with others, this is it! totally worth the money!!
Ability to sync & useful for other lists!!
By: Kkorten - Aug 23, 2009
I've researched several other apps and got the lite version to try. After a few minutes, I could tell it was worth buying it!1. My favorite feature is the syncing feature which allows multiple users to add/check items on our lists- I can't believe how fast the list updates!! It's awesome!! When my wife or myself goes to the store, we always check our list and instantly we know what to get2. Picture taking for item is especially useful to pick up a specific item, so now there isn't any miscommunication on what to pick up. My wife especially loves that feature!!3. This app can be used more for than just groceries. We use the list for the our business to continually make sure our inventory is properly ordered for our business!!Excellent app and well worth it!! This was my first app I ever paid for after 6 months of getting an iPhone. That's how much I love this app!!
Wish I could give it 10 stars!

Instantly shares your grocery list with your computer, other family members' iPhones and updates constantly! That's what makes this app shine!
Ok, right off the bat let me explain something. Everyone shops differently. For some, this app might not be as good as Grocery IQ. That is what I had before this app. But let me tell you why this is my new Grocery App now.
I do the cooking. So I tend to hit the store after work several days a week and grab some things for the next couple of nights dinner. Every time I go, I call or text my wife and have her text or e-mail me a list of stuff we need. Kleenex, baby wipes, laundry detergent, etc... Then I would use my grocery app to get the stuff I had saved and go to text to find the stuff she needed.
NO MORE! Now she can get on the computer (fastest) and enter everything she needs and it automatically (and virtually instantly) appears in my shopping list. Anything that is added to our group on her iPhone, my iPhone or the computer appears instantly in all three places! Plus she has it on her phone too and if she is out she can check the list and grab anything that is handy. That makes this the killer Grocery Store app. Sharing lists seamlessly and easily is the single most important thing to me. I don't care about prices, pictures are kind of neat and this app does that and we are adding pics as we go, it learns grocery order (or you can arrange aisles if you like) but sharing lists easily is the number one most important thing to me.
The weak point of this app is the built-in list is modest. But we are finding it very easy to add our items on the fly and build a database of what WE buy.
I cannot recommend this app enough. And there is a free "Lite" version that restricts you to 20 items and one list if you want to try it free or if you think that you only need small lists.

I purchased a competing Shopping list creator when I first got my iPhone. It was ok, but having to put together a list on the phone was tedious and I only used it once. The web interface on this is brilliant. It is so easy, I love the fact that I can create my list anywhere, at work or at home. Used it for the first time today and it worked perfectly, changing the price of the items was easy, adding items when I forgot them was great. It works perfectly. But the web interface was by far the best feature of this app. Create your list, it syncs and then all you have to do is tick it off as you go. Highly recommend this app.
Knocks the Skin Off the Ball!
By: stestardi - Aug 13, 2009
For multiple iPhone households, this is hands down the best grocery app out there. The key is the ability to sync shopping lists across multiple iPhones, iPod Touches, and PCs. Need your spouse to pick something up at the store tonight? Add it to your iPhone, and it shows up on theirs almost instantly no matter where they are as long as they are in a WiFi or cellular coverage area -- you can even add items to the list while they shop! Two of you shopping at the same time? Split up and watch each other pick up items in real time so you don't get duplicates. Great UI, outstanding support (I get answers to emails in less than 6 hours), and sync make this a real killer app.
Grocery Gadget is Fantastic (update)
By: Thunderbirdsarego - 25-Nov-2008
I got this app recently and think it is excellent. I think the fact you can put photos on, and the ability to put them in the order you shop in, are both brilliant ideas. I have bought some apps that are shopping lists and I think this is the best so far and it is for free. Thanks heaps.
I would like too add to my review as it has now been updated and is even more awesome.
I think the writers of this App are brilliant and I WOULD HIGHLY recommend this program. This app just gets better and better.
Favorite Shopping App.
By: Favorite Shopping App. - Aug 9, 2009
I was hesitant to pay for this until I had tried the free version and then I had no problem paying for it! This is the most handy app I have on my phone, easy to access, customize for different stores and even categories. I love that you can edit your list online after creating and joining a group. Instructions are explained, illustrated, and demonstrated, examples given. I love know what we have in stock at home when I'm out shopping. It has really helped cut down on over-buying and over-stocking. The only thing I wish was a place to keep track of cupons I have to use for the shopping trip for that day and the amount of the coupon. I think they've done a fabulous job making my job of shopping and budgeting much simplier! Thank you!

My wife used to make grocery lists on paper once a week before going shopping. I put this on both iPhones. We add to the list when we say "don't let me forget, we need -----" and it doesn't matter what phone we add it from. When I'm shaving and realize I need razors, I add it to the list and it shows up on her phone instantly. Great design. As we use it more I'll find more things I love. Great job on this app. Twitter (runDAGrun).
Great app!! Easily customized also.
By: Wannabeorganized - Aug 9, 2009
Thanks for such a great app. It met my expectations. I love the group option and the ability to access it from your home computer. Anyone can add items at home even if my phone isn't there. And I don't have to repeat a list for my husband, just ask him to look on the app. This app paid for it's self the first time I used it. Because I input the prices, I was able to identify that the store overcharged me for several items. I received a refund for more $ than I even paid for the app because they have a policy to give you the item free if their shelf tag states a lower price than the item rings up.We have a horse and goats so I was very happy to have the ability to add a feed and supply list with various catagories. Just a few requests:Could you add a buy one get one free selection?I could not find a make up catagory, (maybe I missed it)Is there any way to get rid of the baby items that come up first in the alphabetical list? This is my first review of any app. I have raved about this app to many people also.
