Reviews:
Not good enough By: Mikey Grigoryan - May 26, 2009 Version: 2.1 Okay first off it doesn't match the translations I've seen on the Internet. So now that I think about it I've sounded like a fool using this, second some of the most simple words don't get translated which is lame what's even lamer no one responsible for this app is doing anything about it I though GOOGLE was responsible but I guess they're lazy bastards. I don't know if my sentences sound right when I say them either they should put a voice pronouncer thing to see if your even saying it right.
Great app to communicate with others By: Tnttrivia - Mar 9, 2009 Version: 1.5 Great app for communicating with people who dont speak your language. I used this at work to communicate with some people who didnt speak my language. I simply typed my message into the app, hit translate and pointed out the translation to the people I was trying to talk with. I speak very limited spanish and this got across my complex message with no problems at all, they understood what I needed to get across. A must have app if you deal with people whose language you dont speak, and not getting your message across is not an option.
Chinese By: ReviewerTrevor - Aug 17, 2009 Version: 2.1 It does not correctly translate some words, such as when I put in hello it puts in the wrong word but when I put in hi it comes up with hello ( no slang in Chinese) it also puts in uneeded characters such as hello is 你好 but it puts 您好 which is hello with heart added to the bottom ( only used when writing to or speaking to elders or officials not in everday talk. It also only puts in characters not pín yîn which is needed to pronounce words if you dont know them such as hello is 你好 or ni how in pin yin.But what can you expect from an Internet app.
Google translate tool- but better By: Matt the red - Nov 30, 2008 Version: 1.2 It gets all it's translations from the online google translate service so it is pretty good. It would be awesome if you could download the dictionaries for offline translation but I guess that would take up a lot of space.
The best feature of this app is the quick switch button that switches the languages your translating between. This makes it quicker to use than the online translator.
One request- add widescreen typing. I do not understand why all apps don't just include it by default. It makes things much quicker.
English/Chinese By: jakeedin - 06-Aug-2009 Version: 2.1 I am not one that likes to write a review and I must make a point of it having bought some gaffes. iTranslate is one app that I would recommend to purchase. Tested on English > Chinese and although grammatically is incorrect it was workable and it the gist of the translation without having to work it out. With it being free, on your mobile and with many other languages. It is a must have. Worked well on 3GS/32GB - no problem whatsoever. Tested app with my mother(62) and even she could use it.
Excellente! By: Splishee - 01-Oct-2009 Version: 3.0 Benissimo! Molto divertente e bella!
Learn the meanings of those words AND MORE with this fantastic app!
Witty remarks aside, this app really sets the standard for free apps around the app store. With a gorgeous, sleek and simple interface and accurate, snappy translations, this blows all its competition out of the water. The ads are a little annoying, however (since I was planning to show this app off to friends to show the capabilities of the iPhone) but I understand why they're needed.
Pretty good By: MsChuLa - Nov 29, 2009 Version: 3.1 It seems to translate correctly, I have had trouble with other translators not getting the words or spelling right. I'm hispanic so I obviously speak Spanish, I tried a whole bunch of words and phrases from english to Spanish and they were all correct. I'm learning French, I wanted this for when I'm reading and I don't understand something so I wanted to see if other translations were right. My only suggestion would be to add audio so we can hear someone saying the word.
Handy little free app By: admiralthrawn_1 - Nov 9, 2009 Version: 3.0 Let's not beat around the bush here people: the dev has merely put a shell on Google's translate function and is making money selling ads on it. Now, it's free, and he did make the shell, so I'm not going to ask for anything else on it. EXCEPT...in the actual Google Translate page, it lists a primary translation, and then a few secondary, or noun/verb/adjective usages too. In this app, it only gives you the primary translation. Come on, Dev...if you're going to just steal Google's work, at least steal it all the way to make your app as useful! :) p.s. To the people that are complaining about not having audio, or not having English transliteration...you write an app that does that, and then release it for free. Yeah. That's what I thought.
i translate By: wrath of kahn - 25-Aug-2009 Version: 2.1 When translating words from English letters to a language with different charachters, there is no accompanying pronunciation guide. So if you can't read the Greek alphabet (for example), you won't be able to pronounce the translated word. The app could be improved if it would also show the pronounciation. For English to French, Italian or other languages which have English letters, it works very well.

Excellent App But There Are Some Caveats By: Tyrannosaurai - 11-Jan-2009 Version: 1.4 This is an excellent app, but only for those with a pretty solid background in the auxillary langauge. Like all translators it is not perfect and you need to be able to catch its mistakes. It will miss words with accents and it will miss words where you miss accents. There are other aspects of language that it like all other translators has. The final verdict: if you know your stuff this is pretty much as good as it gets especially for free, if yo have no idea about the language you're translating into this is more or less useless, especially as a field tool.
Only as good as Google By: Willa Jabir - Dec 28, 2008 Version: 1.3 I used the Google translator often. It is convienient and simple. Now I can carry the same app on the iPhone. No, it's not as good as knowing the language, but it sure helps when you are searching for a particular word(s) to get a meaning across to some who only know a little English. I use it daily for talking with Chinese who know some English. After a word gets you stuck, this gets you unstuck so you can continue.
helpful app usually By: DJanvier - Jul 8, 2009 Version: 2.1 I am fluent in french, Spanish, and english as well as in the learning process of other languages. this app is most useful when translating simple words or phrases, such as "dog" and "brown dog". when doing full sentences it messes up sometimes. I got it to help me with german japanese and the languages I'm still learning so I tested it out with French and Spanish. be sure to test what you're saying by translating it back to English or your main language before trying to sound like you know what you're talking about!
Works well, could be great... By: cbp85 - Oct 26, 2008 Version: 1.0 Great app--does what it's supposed to.
But a few suggestions:
-Needs the iPhone's autocorrect feature built in AT LEAST for English.
-Needs a reverse translate button (makes it easy to swap the translation if you give iPhone to a native speaker in the moment)
-Needs a translation history menu, quick translation list, and remember last used translation at launch.
Otherwise, keep up the good work!
Use with caution By: Jhb-Uk - 28-Jun-2009 Version: 2.1 This app is excellent for direct translations of individual words. However, having tried a few things out on the german and Chinese, some more slightly more complicated grammar points are often poorly translated (clauses for example). Also, the word translations are not always appropriate (leben instead of wohnen in german for example). However, if used cautiously, this could be extremely useful if used like a dictionary.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By: EPiC_x3 - Jun 5, 2009 Version: 2.1 I luv dis app, it's da bomb....
I can translate cencored wordz&&say it to other people xDD
Recommended By: malfarsi - 14-Sep-2009 Version: 3.0 This app. is useful. Don't hesitate, get it for free.
Great By: F.L.E.T.C.H. - 07-Sep-2009 Version: 2.1 I really like it no problems so far much better than flicking through 500 pages in a silly book. Well worth getting this :)
=] By: ReneeKelly - 09-Jul-2009 Version: 2.1 It's good and use it all the time
Armenian Language needed By: StarZon Myknees - Jun 1, 2009 Version: 2.1 Would be great if added armenian language.
