Thanks for the update! By: JamesMB_ - Jun 27, 2009 Version: 2.6 Still the best Wifi scanner in the app store, and some of the others are 3 bucks. I never realized how much I used this app until I had to do without it for 10 days. Well worth the .99.The new signal strength readings appear to be in decibles of loss or attenuation, with 0 being no signal loss and 100 being total loss, and are actually more meaningful than the arbitrary 1 - 50 scale that was used previously.
Brilliant and Useful! By: haynzee - 01-Jul-2009 Version: 2.6 Had this app a few months and it's been brilliant! I was trying to find a wifi spot in York and put this app on autoscan every 15 seconds when I was walking around. As soon as it found a open wifi spot it alerted me with a sound.
Also have used the app when setting up wireless networks as the app shows the strength of the wireless signal which has helped me locate routers in the most effective place.
Overall a brilliant app for such a cheap price!
Does the job. By: CurtGuven - 30-Jun-2009 Version: 2.6 Had it since last year and stand by my previous statement it's the best wifi app on the app store. Their is no extra stuff you do not need, just the essentials and it does it's job, it gets you online.
Auto scan and connect also make it very usefull, would be good if it ran in the background so that you don't need it open to auto scan but if I'm looking for wifi I can walk around a street with it running until I hear that irs connected to a wifi router, excellent! :D
10/10 - reccomend
Works better than the native app By: rjvb - Nov 5, 2009 Version: 2.6 On my iPod Touch 3G, WifiTrak detects more wifi networks (open and secured) than the native app, provides information about channel. encryption scheme (WEP, WPA, WPA2), signal strength and supports connecting to detected networks. With the native app, I've had difficulties connecting to attwifi at Starbucks and McDonalds. Others have discussed the issue in forums. What works and is remembered by the native app at one attwifi node can confuse the native app at the next attwif node--the gray safari screen with endlessly spinning wheel. I've recovered from this by using WifiTrak to make fresh a connection to attwifi that is not burdened by past settings.
Neg strength numbers not a bug By: mhl_sc - Jun 27, 2009 Version: 2.6 2nd Update: Like many others I am glad v 2.6 has been released. Also I was confused by the negative signal strength numbers. Unlike many others I went to developers support site & learned that os 3 reports wifi strength with neg numbers unlike os 2.x. So once again this app's rating will be depressed by those users who rant/complain in ignorance. 1st Update: I was recently going over the reviews for this app and was struck by the high percentage of truly stupid people who feel motivated to contribute their comments. There are those who can't see and/or use it's added functionality, and others who think it should help them break into secured networks, and even a few who seem to appreciate the app but don't know how to rate it with more than 1 star. Having to put up with these clowns, the developer is earning whatever he makes on this app..Original:This app is well worth price if you want more than the built-in iPhone utility. I have it set up to work with my WPA2 configured router, but useful away from home.
Definately Worth It. By: SaraLynnM - Sep 11, 2009 Version: 2.6 I always have such problems finding wifi considering I use a Linksys connection. This app is the best! It finds every possible wifi around. It picks up my own as well as my neighbors(even though theirs is locked). I have used free wifi finder apps and nothing is ever found, my iPod by itself cannot pick up the connections this nifty little app can. I would honestly say this is the best .99 I ever spent. I have never written a review before but this little hard working app deserves it.
Do u ppl not read!!!???? By: Zoologic - Jun 27, 2009 Version: 2.6 It CLEARLY says that 2.6 has been submited so that it will be compatable for OS 3.0 right In the beginning of the description!!! Wow.... I can't believe you ppl... Giving low ratings for no reason...EDIT: yay 3.0 is finaly out!!!! Are u ppl finaly happy!!!???!!?!?!?! but what's strange to me is that the numbers on connection strength are negative. No idea why, but it seems to keep more connections for me. So it's not hurting me any
Mr By: Stu, Birmingham Uk - 27-Jun-2009 Version: 2.6 I think it's unfair of the last reviewer to say we were letdiwn with the update to make this program work on OS3.0, the update was ready and sent to Apple for them to approve, so the delay was down to Apple. Anyway i seldom write reviews but have to say this has been the best 59p that i've ever spent, i would of priced the app at £5 and been happy to pay it. In my opinion this program does what the built in wifi program shoukd already be doing. Great work and a great app that is now working on my touch thanks to tge update.
Kept it simple By: Harley Nut - Jun 23, 2009 Version: 2.5 Simply put, IT WORKS! This app finds all the WiFi in your area, let you know what each possible connection's parameters are and then helps you connect to whichever one you choose. No useless bells and whistles just an app that does what it says it will do and does it every time. Can't wait for the OS 3.0 compatable version nto be approved and released. If you want something that adheres to the K.I.S.S. principles of engineering, this is it.
Read this if you liked Wifinder By: 4forpengs - Apr 2, 2009 Version: 2.5 This is so much better than wifinder. it has an auto connect and you can enter a password if you need to. you can "forget" annoying networks like opt online it als has customization levels. form what stegnth networks you want to see and which you dont and also just looks soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better. There is no more error-1/2/6/7/15/16/17 ect with that bs, thats gone and its says if a totally open network, locked but open with password, redirection network (opt online, panera) locked to certain users (only registered i-pod/phones can get on) or totally locked and no way your getting in.

iPod Touch + WifiTrak = Wardrive beast = FREE Wifi By: vrod007 - Aug 29, 2009 Version: 2.6 Seriously, how can anyone rate this less than 5 stars? You turn your ipod/phone into a super sensitive wifi locator for less than a buck! These other numbnuts must be comparing this app to their free sheep launch app. The cheapest wifi locator on ebay from China is easily 20 times the price. For the first time ever, I was able to walk my hood and find open APs. Then I was able to train my homemade parabolic usb wifi antenna on the right signals and get free wifi. And a huge plus was that I also used the ipod wifitrak to fine, fine tune the antenna by taking readings all around the mounted antenna to home in on the precise optimal reception position. You can only do this with a $100 WiSpy device. Thanks WifiTrak! Thanks Apple! Launch another sheep you whining pissants! BTW, 3.0 software updates cannot do what this app can do for wifi. This was my first ever app purchase and am thoroughly impressed!
CCMapper By: CCMapper - Oct 16, 2009 Version: 2.6 This is the best APP EVER MADE for the IPOD TOUCH. PERIOD! I use this on the bike trail and when I park my car in non-local locations. This works like a divining rod. Just keep hitting the refresh if moving slowy in your car. Hunts down all WiFi networks and lists them by strength and access(locked/open). Who needs 3G when you can find free wifi on your trips with this little GEM. IT IS INSANELY GREAT!
Version 2.5 updates? By: Uther_Pendragon - 24-Jun-2009 Version: 2.5 Having got this application just before the Ver 3 iPhone update came out, I was happy using this app, it works really well. However, since the new firmware update on my iPhone was put on, this app no longer works. I can see that an update is on its way, but its been a few days now and still no update on iTunes. Does anyone know how long it will be before Apple put the update on iTunes. The app is used all the time when we are away from university in order to find access to the net, please Apple, get the update put on ASAP!! Thanks for a great application!
Best WiFi App! By: MrMos3s - Oct 12, 2009 Version: 2.6 I love this app and have been using since I bought my iPod.I just wish there was an app that would automatically check to see if I'm connected, and if not, connect me to the next best free wifi spot automatically and quickly, without even asking me to press anything to connect, while constantly running in the background.I do like wifitracks auto connect feature, it's better than apples default wifi, but I want to be constantly connected without having to press the connect button.Yeah, kind of a tall order, I know.Update:I just found a some-what fix for my problem. Load the app and immediately close it as soon as the white background loads up (before the wifi routers even show up on screen) and it still catches the nearest known hotspot. So that makes it a little quicker.
Buy It Now By: phprogrammer - Jun 22, 2009 Version: 2.5 This is a fantastic app. It has never failed me, and I've been able to connect to hundreds of networks that my iTouch never would've found on it's own. It even tests each network for connectivity - gone are the days when I had to manually test each unsecured "linksys" or "hpsetup" just to find that the owner never connected their router to the Blagosphere. Well worth the $.99 that it costs.
As for those of you crying your eyes out over the lack of 3.0 support...yes, I was disappointed too when my app stopped working. But if you were actually LITERATE, you would realize that the awesome author of this app already has a fix ready. The only thig slowing it down is the god-awful Apple review process. So shut up and stop giving one-star reviews to one of the best apps I've seen so far.
My fav most useful paid app!!! By: Ralat - Jun 22, 2009 Version: 2.5 Still waiting for the 3.0 update so I feel lost without this app! Wifi Is not the same without... Anyway my most useful app. The first one I ever paid for and definetly worth the .99 cents. Unlike other "Free" wifi apps, this one actually scans and let's you know if there is a wireless router nearby that you can use for wifi. Tells you if it is open, or needs a password so that is very helpful. The free wifi apps only let's you know about hotspots ( nearby starbucks, library ect. ). Which is not very useful if you are on foot. Also it is remarkable how many MORE networks it picks up that the iPhone wifi does not pick up. WiFi Tracker gives you the signal strenth (ping) in a number scale 1 (weak) thru 20+ (strong) as apposed to the three bars you see on the top left of the phone which does not do justice! You can set it to connect, open and retrieve a web page or URL once it finds the best signal. Or you can let it find the networks and you pick one manually from the list which is in order from strongest to weakest. Another great feature is that it has a refresh icon on the list so that you may check how consistant the signal strength is if you have two or more networks to choose from. Or you can set it to auto-scan anywhere from five seconds to every minute or more if you like. This is helpful if you need to have wifi access and are driving. Just set it to auto and drive around the block and it will notify you with an audible alert as well as vibrate with every scan interval. Hopefully you have found this review useful. Get this app you'll thank me! It's only a buck! C'mon, you gotta have that under the couch cushion or between the car seats in quarters, nickels and dimes if you look! A++
Worth the Buck By: Springlering - Aug 26, 2009 Version: 2.6 Downloaded this prior to going out of the country. Because we don't have an international data plan, we had our 3G, etc, turned off, and were relying on WiFi. App did a better job of seeking out and identifying networks (and more of them) than did the "settings" button on my phone. I found and attached to wifi quicker than my husband, who didn't have the app. I'm fixing to do a serious app housecleaning. This one is definitely a keeper.
Works perfect and remembers your passwords to each network By: Shaktiboi - Mar 28, 2009 Version: 2.5 This is a must-have app for the iTouch. It's super-fast, super-accurate, and best of all, it remembers your passwords to every private network you've ever connected, so the next time you need to get on that network you just cancel the iTouch's built-in wifi dialog, go to WifiTrak, and connect that way. No need to enter the password again. I walked through my neighborhood the other night to test its sensitivity and was blown away. It's perfect.
Stop leaving negitive reviews! By: Sadie'sMommy - Jun 22, 2009 Version: 2.5 This is the best app that I have on my iPhone. I can't believe all the wifi networks it picks up when my phone still hasn't found any. I love that it not only finds connections almost everywhere, but it also tests each one out to make sure it's actually a useable link. It takes out all the guess work of connecting to wifi. I've gotten my $0.99 worth of use outta this app 100 times over.
People who arent smart enough to read either the notice from the devoloper, OR one of the many other reviews left explaining that Apple hasn't yet approved the update that's been submitted to make this app 3,0 compatible, shouldn't be allowed to leave nasty comments and 1 star reviews, causing the rating to fall. Be patient! You're complaining in the wrong place, the devoloper has done all he can to fix the issue. There's nothing to accomplish by leaving a nasty review other than causing potential buyers of this app (after it's updated) to assume it's not any good, making the seller lose money he shouldve made if the rating hadn't been cut down by people being stupid, and eventually causing the developer to have to quit making updates for an unprofitable app, and ruining it for all the other users who really enjoy having the features it provides. So seriously, save the bitching for Apple if u simply can't live without complaining to someone. Maybe Apple would hurry if they were subjected to such annoyance, (keep in mind that there are many positive reviews left by satisfied purchasers of this app, EVEN at a time when the app isnt able to b used! Proof alone of how great this app is!)
As for the idiots who downloaded this app AFTER the 3.0 update, even tho it clearly states that it's out of comission temporarily until the update is approved, and STILL left a bad review-smack yourself repeatedly until you come to your senses.
.
Stop complaining By: spamlord - Jun 26, 2009 Version: 2.5 Okay, to the idiots who are saying that it doesn't work in 3.0: if you read the description, you would know that there is an update coming very soon that will fix that. To the idiots who are complaining about the wait time: first, I would love to see you complete an update like that in a few days. Second, it takes a while for an app to get reviewed by Apple. If you want to complain, complain to Apple. Anyway, this is easily one of the best, if not the best wifi app out there. It has helped more times than I can count.
