Really good application. This might not have all the bells & whistles of some other dictionaries but it is still very solid, very easy to use and its Free and that is a major positive. When compared, It doesn't seem to have the slight lag of WeDict and I have no need for Chinese translations ATM, so I prefer this one. A really good pick up and a gr8 offline reference tool.
With some more word definitions added and an offline Thesaurus to go with it, this would become a killer application and if kept at a low price tag of maybe a dollar or two to make this the best Value for Money & cheapest all round dictionary/thesaurus that everyone should own on their iphone.

A dictionary for the iPod Touch/iPhone. Genius. Me lacking an a physical dictionary (yet a complex Spanish-English one) makes this an easy 'get out and search' app for me. Really helped me with looking up simple definitions for my AP assignments. Only missed like two words. Great App, recommend to anyone who just wants to know a quick definition on the go or are too lazy to buy a large hardback dictionary.

I use this app daily pretty much, when I hear a new and interesting word I just whip out the iTouch and look it up. It never ceases to amaze me how comprehensive this app really is. For example, when I walk the dog, a friend and I leave the dogs to wrestle whilst we have a conversation, in which, a conflict over the definition of a word occaisionally crops up. This dictionary has never let us down and always impresses us with the obscure words, names and slang terms it contains. Congratulations to the developer!!!

Although this does not have the scope of American Heritage or Oxford dictionaries, it does not pretend to. It's name is "The Simple Dictionary." Maybe, people who can't figure out what this application does from its title, need way more than a book can give them. I love this free dictionary, because it exceeds at what it does for its cost.
I highly recommended this for those who plan on getting the AH or Oxford later, but don't want to pay now. Dictionaire surely is better than nothing!!! The choice is clearly yours. It loads fast on my iPhone; The ads are inobtrusive on the top row, and helpful ads at that; Also, it makes an attempt at contemporary relevance in its editing.
I think this may best serve those who read and want quick reference to obscure or unfamiliar words. But if you are working on any serious research, you had best buy a comprehensive dictionary.

I just downloaded this thing becuase my friend had it and I thought I wasnt going to use it but there have come a LOT I mean A LOT of times ive used this thing and its just incredible but i do have a few suggestions for the next time you update this app -make able to pronounce the words -maybe put a sentence with the word in it -synonyms and antonyms (if avalible) and thats all. Other than that this app is awsome and it makes me feel so smart.

I would like to thank you for creating this program which is very useful and handy. Now for all of you haters out there, if you don't like the program then delete it but DO NOT give one or two stars because these people spent lots of time creating a wonderful app for FREE and you wrote nasty reviews. I read some reviews and one person complained about how this program takes up to his 9 MB and it does nothing. One suggestion for you, either delete it or buy 16GB phone, ok.

I F'n LOVE U!!! this is my new fav app!!!!!!!! Just what i always wanted something to help me get the word right for me it's a spell check but better! You know the word but really want to get it right the first time LOL & it's got info on the word 2in1 love it! I'll use the for all my office work i'v used other apps but if u don't know the word then all it's good for is info on it, your app is like AI & on the fly thats a app done right for the iphone! But one more thing Can u add like, NOTHING! & it's FREE cuz u got it right 5 out of 5 let's just call it 10 LOL & hell ya I'd buy this!!!!

this is a brilliant application. i've just started my Law GCSE and im finding hundreds of words that are new me, but this FRE dictionary has every definition that i have happened to need so far, i really love the ease of access. its also very easy to use, so highly recommended.
it saves you carrying a huge dictionary around with you.
it saves you the time consumeing effort of flicking thought hundreds of pages to find the word your looking for, just type the word you want into the search box above the words/definitions
and it also saves you money, as even a paper dictionary you have to pay for

If all you require is an occasional spelling correction or definition this application is ALL you'll ever need. It only stands to reason that the application is made to help sharpen our use of the English language, not teach it. If an app as fundamental and simple as this doesn't meet your standards you may not need an app. Please allow me not to forget to mention "It's the BEST and it's FREE!":-)

I don't know about other people, but I didn't encounter the same issues that they did. For example, a previous post mentioned that words like "peevish" and "scurrilous" has no definitions, but on mine it was okay. Maybe the update fixed these problems. I also didn't experience the slowdown problems that other people had. The dictionary certainly wasn't as fluid as the native apps, but it also didn't freeze. Maybe it's because I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch and it has a faster processor. I think overall, this application is worth a try, but I'm definitely keeping it.

First of all, excellent application. I use it a minimum of 30 times every day because it's so damn useful. Drawbacks: No phonetic pronunciation guidelines Too much colloquial language is included. This would be fine if there were links to more appropriate words or if it specified that the words were informal. The speed of the application is still pretty slow compared to other programs (e.g. Wikipanion). I know the last update greatly improved this issue, but faster is better. Overall, great job. This is an invaluable resource for me, and offered at an invaluable price.

Granted that the keyboard is the laggiest thing since vista on an old laptop, the app really isn't that bad. You can either get the $20 non laggy, probably has a lot more words than this one dictionary app, or the free lethargic one. I haven't really gone through it, but it seems to have most of the words that a normal person would need. With the alternative kept in mind this dictionary is a good choice for any one who can wait fir the keyboard to catch up if they haven't already used a handy suggested word link. It should really get a 3 1/2 but it can't do that right now, so it gets a generous 4.

Hey, I love this app, but recently when I upgraded and was looking at the trivia while the app was building its database... one of the trivia facts was "Pinocchio is Italian for 'pine head'.". That's really close but not accurate. It's Italian for "pine eye." Occhio being the Italian word for eye. Pino (pine) + occhio (eye). Get it right. Nothing worse than inaccurate trivia. I'm not exactly sure of the Italian word for head, but it would have something with a root of cap- in it being as the Latin word is capere.

Dictionare is a great little app that takes up little space. However, it has some very useless definitions. For example, if you search "magnanimous" you'll only see "magnanimously". It's definition is "in a magnanmious manner" Hardly useful. There are many words that aren't in there such as flout and sporadic. I've had this app little over 24 hours and it barely fits my standards(I'm a 15 year old taking an SAT-prep class). Overall it's decent, but if you're going to look for difficult words, I don't advise this app.

Good app. I use it a lot. One suggestion to make it better would be to add a bookmark option or favorites list. This would give the user the ability to select certain words to have listed on a bookmark page. It would be nice to have the definition next to the word in the list, but at minimum have a list of the words you wanted to be able to look up quickly. This function would allow this app to go from good to great.
