After 3 days of searching I found it. Biggest complaint among all reviewers is searches and links in the App just launch Safari. SOLUTION: There is an Easter egg in the Settings screen which will allow searches and links to open within the app without launching Safari. Also included are color themes and sound options. Go to: Settings and scroll down, allowing the screen to bounce a few times until the new option appears at the bottom " Bells & Whistles". That's it. Best Utility App around.

great recent upgrade

Been using this for a while... and it just got an awesome upgrade. now you can speak your search into the phone and it does a remarkably good job of transcribing. One of my frustrations with the iphone was how long it can take to type in a quick search item - now it takes a few seconds. Google really outdid themselves on this one. Definitely will become a standard app and sits on my permanent bar at the bottom. May be a bug they will fix, but it doesn't search my contacts list with the voice search... I'll update this review when that gets fixed.

This app is awesome! I just tried the voice feature to look for various grocery images to import in my 'Shopper' app and it totally worked! I searched for bottled water, eggo waffles, country crock butter, you name it! It understood and accepted each search and provided results; I didn't even have to type anything in! I'm not sure what all the other complaints are about, because it worked perfectly on my iPhone 3G. Awesome job Google!!!

I have no idea what has happened to my google app!!!! I was on it then I went away and when I came back it wasn't working. I went on a page - and it ovibiously goes to Safrari mode - and it wouldn't load it stayed at about 20% loaded for some reason and it STILL WONT WORK and it is not the following : • no Internet connection. As the Internet for everything else is fine! • it is also not the page I was trying to connect to either anyone had the same problem?!

Searches your contact book faster than your contact book

When Apple made your contacts book searchable in the 2.0 firmware release it seems things got substantially sluggish. Now when you get to the contacts book, you seem to have to wait about 10 seconds before you can even get to a point that you can start typing what you want to search. In comparison the Google Mobile App comes up instantly, the way the Contacts app should have come up. Then you can start typing and it quickly provides matches in the Contacts. So now I prefer using Google Mobile Apps as my Contacts instead of the Contacts application.

Google has been king of the hill when it comes to search for a long time now. But what happens when you’re already the best? You keep getting better by adding new features and products. Google Mobile with Voice Search is Google’s attempt to take mobile searching to the next level and, surprisingly, it has.
Before I get any further into this review, let me disclose that I have always had my doubts about voice based applications. I have played with some in the past and found them aggravating and relatively worthless. By the time they recognized what I was saying I could have typed the same words ten times over. Having said that, I’m quite surprised to find that I really like Google Mobile with Voice Search. It actually worked for me and it worked damn well too.
If you already have Google Mobile on your iPhone 3G then you’ll need to download the update from the iTunes store. I tried to download mine and ran into some kind of error message saying it couldn’t install the update. So I deleted Google Mobile totally from iTunes, synced my phone to get it off there and then downloaded it again. After that I synced it to my iPhone 3G without any problems.

I love this App. It not only searches your contacts, but also searches the web at same time. Has other great features also......and most of all it's free. check it out people. it combines many features your iphone offers into one program . in other words you don't have to flip through different applications such as going to maps on your iphone or the internet or going into your contacts , it just searches all

I downloaded this for curiousity and fun... and found it more and more useful than I thought it would. It has also been incredibly accurate... even when I thought a phrase would trip it up... such as looking up recipes with odd names, it came back with answers (or rather links) without any errors. Only once did I trip it up, and it was my fault... I started to speak before the beep, and it caught the last part of a word... so the search didn't work that one time. When I realized what had happened, I repeated the phrase and it worked like a champ. My girlfriend thinks this is "Star Trek" technology ("Computer... what is...")... and she's basically right. It's very cool... and very practical. Amazing stuff...

Amazing app is made even better like this: 1. Go to the settings screen whilst in the app 2. Scroll down until you see the "about" button. 3. Scroll past the about button over and over until a new button appears (after about ten swipes) called "bells and whistles". Through this pane in the settings you can enable an in-app browser which saves you from having to switch to safari to view the search results 

I was blown away by the voice capability! I spent about an hour testing different searches. Addresses, business names, street corners and I estimated accuracy to be around 85-90% good! Once it found what I needed, I select the map and it asks if I want use the map app. Less time spent on keyboard! HIDDEN SECRET: open app, go to settings. From this screen, scroll down to "about", but don't select it... Just keep swiping the screen up about 3 or 4 times. It will unlock a new setting to allow you to change color schemes and sounds!

Can great become amazing?!

Now listen here. This is by far the best ap to come for the grand total of $0.00! It is great! Google team you have done it again... But could you make it amazing?? I have heard some people want landscape mode. That is an easy update to achieve. My idea is while running the app to say "contacts" then the name of the person or nickname in your contacts then have it go right into a phone call! With the voice recognition being great! I could see this little update making it amazing!

I didn't download this app before because I thought all it did was provide a quick link to a google search which safari already does. When I heard they integrated voice search I decided to give it a try and boy do I wish I started using this app a while ago! The integration with Google Apps (gmail, calender docs, etc) is great and I love how I can use the same features with my company's domain (we use google apps to host our email and other functions). The best part is that I have easy access to both my personal google account and my work google account all from the same app which is great because I prefer using gmail's iPhone web interface over the default iPhone mail app, but thats just me.
Ironically enough, the voice search is in my mind the weakest part of the app, even though its what prompted me to download it in the first place. I do like the search suggestions alot though. I've only been using this app for a few days, but already its becoming one of my most used. Even though the voice search feature could be a little better, I'm giving the app 5 stars because I think it does what every iPhone app should try to do.... provide a clean and simple interface for accessing information.

It could be so much more!

While the voice recognition is really cool, it's usefulness is limited: if you're in a situation where you can't type (e.g. driving), then you shouldn't be searching the web anyway. And besides, typing a couple of words into Safari is (IMHO) simply easier. The real utility could come from the links in the "Apps" tab which, instead of launching Safari when tapped, should access content via a built-in interface, making the lives of google office users much easier. Right now, this app is merely a collection of links, or bookmarks. Let's hope that Google will improve this gadget soon and bring us something really useful. Click YES if you agree.

Bravo Google!!! Voice recognition works great. Options under settings well done. App button is icing on the cake. Thank you for bringing it to the iPhone! You're truly raising the bar in all avenues of developement. Looking forward to everything you guys are bringing. If you often search for specific information and hate the time it takes to type in your search criteria, this is the app for you. Just say what you're looking for and it will pop up. The voice recognition is excellent. You can say very specific information (even numbers) and it will find it. Like all voice systems you need to have quiet surroundings and speak clearly for best performance. Don't know what I'd do without it.

Had to write a positive review about the new update, I love the new voice search feature, it works like a dream, I've watched so many American movies to a point where I've developed their accent and this app recognizes my accent, wooho!!!!!!! There is one feature I would really love to see in the future. The Wikipedia section I hate because it has to reach out to the Safari web browser, why not integrate it into the app like other apps, Wikipanion or Wikiamo. It would be the ultimate app if this gets built in.

I'm not one to write many reviews, but I was more than compelled after downloading and trying it out. What's great is it also accesses your Google Apps account if you allow it. I feel like I can safely delete many of my location finding apps like Where and iWant and just keep this one. It’s extremely useful, quick and easy.

Love, love, love this app!! This is a MUST have! Very easy to use. So far every artist and song I've looked for has been available. You can bookmark songs and artists for later enjoyment. Don't like the song that comes on? No worries you can skip up to six songs per station or just create your own new station. No commercials. Small ads you can close. All I can say is pure genius! Can't think of one negative thing to report. Download this app and I know you will definitely agree!

I love this app! I am out of town on business and it has been a great tool. I got really sick while here so I held it up to my ear and just said "CVS". This app gave me directions straight there! Then the weather turned colder than I expected and I needed a sweater. I simply said "mall" & my location, and boom! I have a map to lead me there! Love it. I use it constantly. The "voice" reader works great.
