Impressive By: Tim Tam Slam - Feb 8, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 I used the vocal input of off my 4's mic and it was able to understand all of what I said, except once. And I have a cold. I had to make a call to a company and the rep had a harder time understanding me (not outsourced rep). Anyhow, impressed with that I've played with, the full screen is nice, easy controls. I don't have anyone near me that speaks any of these languages and couldn't test for accuracy.afscheid. (Dutch for goodbye apparently)
This is an incredible app! By: Njshorecore - Feb 11, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 I hate a translate app before, but when I saw this one, I got excited! Best. App. EVER!!! I speak Spanish, Portuguese, and Gallego. But sometimes I need to make sure I'm saying some words right. Plus, I've been trying to charm this Russian girl and her family recently by trying to learn Russian. Now that they have this audio part, it helps learning what I need to say so much better!! By the way, it's a little tricky at first, but you can copy the text. Just double tap and done. Love this app SO MUCH! Best part is that the Spanish audio actually uses a spaniard accent! That Literally made my day. Thanks google. This is perfect!
Stunning By: Kotatsu Neko - 10-Feb-2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 This is one of those apps which truly gives you a glimpse of the future, and the power of these pocket computers we all carry around. You can quite simply speak into your iPhone, and a few seconds later the app has not only transcribed (usually perfectly) what you said, but also translated it into one of dozens of languages, and prepared an audio clip of the translation! Truly amazing. If this could work offline it would truly be invaluable when abroad, but with data roaming charges still set to silly level, this app, amazing though it is, will remain sadly just a toy.
Voice Translation a clear winner. By: judacris - 09-Feb-2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 I use Google Translation often, and it's nice to see it come in as a native app now. What's more exciting is the voice translation for several languages. It works great, though not entirely flawless. The storing of select phrases is nifty for travellers with no foreign Internet access, as is the vocal reading of some languages. But again, this is Google Translator, a half-human, half-computer service, so don't expect accurate translations 100% of the time. This is not an option for professional translations, but it's the next best thing to spending money to hire a translator follow you wherever you go. Plus, it's free. You can't ask more from that.
Ehh? I dont know?! By: Report a Concern - Version: Before trying this app I was a bit skeptical... such was my surprise when I tried different languages (like japanese to english), it worked really nice. It's good, but as other translators, sentences are not always accurate because they are translated literally. The only downside is that, as others have mentioned, the need for an active internet connection to be able to translate on-the-fly is a bit sad if you are traveling and you want to use this as, well, a translator. Yes, you can keep a history, but it doesn't always go as smooth as that.Still, considering that this is the first version that they release, it deserves five stars. Hopefully there's some sort of workaround for the online requirement that could get implemented in future updates.
Have been waiting a long time for this! By: Berdium Der Ban - 10-Feb-2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 To be honest I'm surprised Apple didn't organise their own App for translation (they may still be doing so, and maybe they don't have the breadth of speach data that Google has!) but this is one of those apps where you just know one day you will be dead happy you downloaded when you find yourself in a touch spot. I wasn't do much amazed by the translation, that's been on Google for years, buts it's the Audio button which reads the Pronunciation to you (or of course the foreign speaking person you're having trouble speaking to!) Great way to learn a language also as when you're in another country you an use this app to get used to the day to day phrases and cut pig all the other bumf. I was also impressed that there were do many available languages, you'll be pushed to find one not available. Download, keep in a folder & one day it may even saw yours or someone elses life!
Fantastic App By: Paul "The Book Guy" Alves - 10-Feb-2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 This app works brilliantly with a few exceptions that Google can fix quite easily!I've tried this thing, speaking In a normal tone and speed and it works almost flawlessly except when I use strange concepts... Otherwise it translates quite well. The only problem right now is the output speaker does not work. This is what would make this app INVALUABLE when overseas... Unfortunately unless my headphones are plugged in the output audio does not play. I can't see myself convincing a stranger to plug my earbuds into their ears. Having the iPhone speaker output the translation is what would make this a marvel of technology. Hopefully google fixes this ASAP. Right now I either get a click as the output or the audio does come out but at an inaudible volume level.Fix this google and I'llGive you another five stars!!!!!!
Translations in it's finest hour!!! MUST HAVE FOR ANY INTERNATIONAL TRAVELER By: Coke Bottle Model - Feb 9, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 This is a great app. I would have paid a few bucks for this. By: JoSE rAUl_96 - Feb 9, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 I am so happy that google is making their great apps available on the app store, I got them all and is just something that google is good at because I like them all, keep going google please don't stop we need some of you on the os devises. Please make mobile call available on the iPod touch 4g on the google voice app and please make an app for google talk and Picasa, include google goggles for iPod 4g please.
5 stars. But one little problem.. By: ReviewPreview - Feb 10, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 I love the app. Except for the and slight occasional erroneous translation where very elementary grammar and sentence structure rules are flip flopped or flat out wrong ( sometimes ). That's not what has frustrated me, the lack of a simply COPY AND PASTE ( I don't mean to scream, just want this simple request to stand out ) option would have been ridiculously welcomed and seems it could have been easily implemented. Please, please make this happen, it would be really appreciated.

Wow! By: Report a Concern - Version: I'm a junior and I use this in my Japanese level 3 class and it works great. I don't have to always ask my teacher for help. Instead when I'm trying to figure out how to say something I just use my app and it's audio voice along with the English characters of how it's written to translate. I was able to write a Japanese essay that would normally take about an hour in roughly 10 minutes with this app. It is absolutely great!!
Kompfrkingl By: Report a Concern - Version: This is by far the best translation device I've ever come across! I'm learning Japanese and noticed that a lot of free online translators are not only somewhat inaccurate, but only provide me with the word in Kanji (the most famous written type of Japanese). This app not only gives me kanji and hiragana, but also romanji (English transliteration of Japanese) so that I can know exactly how to say it! Plus, it's accurate in sentence structure in everything I've translated so far.
Best translator By: Edwin-Schemer - Feb 9, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 I tested it in several languages (English, German, French, Romanian, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, Hebrew, and Yiddish). It got almost all typed-in translations right, except into Yiddish (where it occasionally substituted English words, and made syntactic errors). It almost seems that instead of academic Yiddish, as codified by YIVO, Google used street-Yiddish from religious neighborhoods in Brooklyn. As for translation of spoken words (from those languages which have this feature) voice-recognition was only about 70% correct (maybe because I have a bit of an accent in all the languages I speak). Let's hope that future releases will include a "learning mode" independent of the localization setting of the iPhone.
Thx Google By: Report a Concern - Version: All around the most comprehensive and efficient translation app I've ever used. Incredible translation app. Allows text or voice input and gives fast, practical translation. Major languages offer speech output- a VERY convenient feature- for no extra cost! It's fully functional straight from download and 100% free. What a no brainer!*Not all translations I tested in Spanish/Chinese were perfect (sometimes too "textbook", not conversational) but still conveyed basic meaning and sentiment.
Great! By: invenio - 09-Feb-2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 Well done, Google! Simple, straight-forward, intuitive, useful. Only the translation and voice recognition engine need improvements, e.g. translating the spoken "how are you" from English to Chinese translates to "你如何", rather than the correct "你好吗". Typing a "?" after "how are you" resolves that, but the engine should be able to figure that out. I've also come across inaccurate voice recognition, but I guess that that'll improve over time. All in all, a good app. When is OCR coming?
nice By: CxxC - Feb 9, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 I've been using another translation app the past couple years, but since it seems all these other apps have been piggybacking off Google Translate anyway, I decided to get the official Google app and go straight to the source. Very nice app. Simple, functional and fast. I love the full-screen option (you can even pinch to zoom the text), which allows for easy reading should you ever need to show your translated text to, let's say, a shopkeeper across the counter. And the history and favorites functions are real timesavers, allowing you to keep track of phrases you may need on more than one occasion. Very well thought out. Now it's only a matter of time before Google incorporates the iPhone's camera and OCR software into the app--at least I hope they will.
Fantastic By: drago the mano - Feb 10, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 And you can't go wrong with free.
好用! By: 横行人道 - Feb 9, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 加油,期待更好的版本!这软件,让百度情何以堪?
nice app By: sjdfkls - 10-Feb-2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 Such an useful and easy to use.
Magnificent! By: IPhonedYou - Feb 10, 2011 Version: 1.0.0.926 The future is NOW. Very fast voice recognition. Please make a version with that feature for computers. Please add ability to copy resulting translated text to clipboard. Maybe that's already possible, but I could not find any instructions for that. Bravo Google!!!!
