PocketBible is brought to you by Laridian. We have been developing Bible software for mobile devices since there was such a thing as a mobile device, and before that we spent ten years defining Bible software for desktop PC's by creating and refining QuickVerse. This is the initial release of PocketBible for the iPhone. More features are in the works!
The wait is finally over!

I have been a long time user of Laridian bible applications in the WM world and after switching to iPhone, it was one of 2 applications that I desparately missed. I must be one of the first to download PocketBible and I'm loving it already, thank you Laridian. Now I can read my bible and my favorite devotional - Streams in the Desert - wherever I am without relying on a connection (many times hard to do on a long train commute into NYC). The developers have delivered a superior experience compared with any other bible software I have tried in the App store and the ability to be able to download all the books I had already purchased in the WM world is so great. This is my first review & I have many, many apps on my iphone so this is high praise indeed. Knowing how the developers continued to improve the WM app, I am confiedent that this is just the beginning!

I have been a long time user of Laridian's Bible software on the Pocket PC and and Window's platform and now I am very excited to have it on my iPhone. Laridian did a great job on the app but what is really great is how they have protected my investment. All the books and Bibles that I have purchased over the years have transfered from platfom to platfom. In the past you purchased the reader for the platform and all the books you have bought in the past are now available. For some reason, I don't know why, they are offering the reader on the iPhone for free, which means that I now have my full library of 45 different Bibles, commentaries, dictionaries and other books that I have downloaded all available to me without paying an extra dime. Thats several hundreds of dollars that I have spent over the years all available on my iPhone. The same books I have on my Window's PC are all on my iPhone.
Thank you Laridian, for all your hard work!! For putting out a product that is amazing and business model that puts it's customer first. I look forward to a long relationship, and adding more Bibles, commentaries and other works to my library.
Seeing what you did for the PocketPC and Window's PC versions I can't wait to see what enhancements you come out with in the future.
Thank you again for all your hard work!!!
Best Bible for your Pocket

Laridian are a company with a long history of creating Bible software for portable devices and they bring to the iPhone all of this expertise. This software is streets ahead of any other Bible reader for iPhone. Fast, versatile, easy to customise and navigate. Above all Laridian offer a selection of Bibles and references that is unrivalled. You can have a number of translations and commentaries open at the same time, all in sync, and very quickly switch between them. Already on the first version this is easily the best iPhone Bible software available. Look forward to seeing where it goes with future updates.
I'd definitely recommend this software to anyone, and if you get it make sure you go to Laridian's website to check out the vast range of Bibles, books, devotionals, commentaries, dictionaries and more that they have available.
Elegant and Intuitive
By: Gary Cantwell - Sep 16, 2009
I've used PocketBible for over ten years on the Palm OS and on the PC. This iPhone version is a tremendous improvement over both of those. The developers have decades of experience in the Bible software industry and know how to make a product that is both in depth and easy to use. I work at a seminary, and use PocketBible each day for work, daily reading, personal study, leading a small group and Sunday School, and preaching preparation.
PocketBible is elegantly designed and intuitive - like any good iPhone app should be. It uses portrait and landscape mode, which allows you to make the best of the maps and charts included in the great multitude of reference books available - some for free and others for a reasonable price. It's very easy to purchase additional books online, and the program allows you to quickly download them to your iPhone wirelessly. Laridian regularly offers their books on sale, making it easy and cost effective to build your library. The daily reading plans are nice to help keep you on track in working your way through the Bible in a year. My favorite add-on book is the ESV Study Bible, which includes a library's worth of helpful commentary. PocketBible uses cross-reference linking more than any other iPhone app I know of - linking Bible verses, Greek and Hebrew definitions, maps, charts, commentaries, etc.
This is a must-have app for any Christian with an iPhone!

I have used Laridian products for over 5 years. Started with MyBible for my Treo 650, then on to PocketBible for Pocket PC. Loved it. To have numerous Bible translations, commentaries and resources all on one pocket device was incredible. I have not experienced a better Bible program than what they have put together at Laridian. I have waited a long time since switching to the iPhone and now I can say the wait was well worth it! Huge thanks to Laridian.
From Quickverse to Pocketbible
By: Mgrobbo - 18-Sep-2009
I used Quickverse for Windows as built by Craig for years (up to vs. 4). I have used Laridian My Bible on the Palm for a long time as well and also Pocketbible on the PC. All well built and easy to use. Pocketbible for iPhone follows in the great tradition. I love that my wide range of Bibles, commentaries and dictionaries are all available whatever platform I use. I bought myself the Strongs concordance to celebrate! (Would be nice to have the Greek NT in Greek eventually, though.) Thanks Craig and the team - you are a blessing!
Review from a user of MyBible on the Palm
By: TheNevster - 19-Sep-2009
I've been a user of MyBible on the Palm for many years and was eagerly awaiting PocketBible on the iPhone. I'm not disappointed. Coming from the palm this is what stands out :
- All the books I bought for MyBible were available and very quick to download
- The search is awesome - it's fast and gives a large chunk of context, often enough to serve my needs
- You can have a number of books open at once and it's very quick to switch between them - even easier than on the palm
The only thing I would like (which the palm didn't have either) is the ability to use the standard iphone scrolling method of swiping/dragging the text up and down. Perhaps it could be an optional setting and it would load in a single chapter of the book at a time. I'd be willing to forgo other capabilities when it was in this mode if there are any UI issues. And possibly a flowing text mode would be nice ala the iFlow reader. None of this is enough to take any stars away though.
Looking forward to future updates!
Best Bible Software EVER Comes to iPhone
By: JamesKWalker - Sep 16, 2009
Finally, the best Bible software for the small screen comes to the iPhone as a well thought out app with the simplicity and feel you'd expect from an app designed from the ground up to take maximum advantage of the iPhone's brilliant user interface. Powerful yet intuitive. Upgrading from Palm or Windows Mobile? All your previously purchased Bibles and reference books are already in your Laridian account ready to be automatically downloaded. The reader is FREE (including several free books) and there's no "upgrade fee" for books you already purchased. If you love the Bible, this is the app you've been waiting for. Download immediately... You won't be disappointed!
Best Bible reader software
By: Pestbuster - 27-Sep-2009
Been using the Palm and PocketPC versions previously and got the iPhone version as soon as it came out. Still the best bible software for PDA/Smartphones that I have used. Different interface but easy to get used to. Fast opening of bibles/commentaries, large choice of bible translations. Best of all, the Palm version that I got >6yrs ago still allows me to download the iPhone version for free ! No other software developer has allowed that to my knowledge, most would make you re-purchase for a newer version, let alone a new platform.
Worth the Wait!!
By: Vicki from Melb - 30-Sep-2009
I have been a Laridian user since 2002, with my Microsoft WM pda devices. Last Sept 2008 I moved to the iPhone. I immediately went to the App Store to search "PocketBible", "Laridian", "Bible". I was devastated to find my favourite Bible app, and one of the essential and critical apps on my WM pda, had not been ported to the iPhone. I was heartened to see Laridian were in the process of developing the iPhone app of PocketBible. All was not lost.
It has been a very long 12 months, but my patience in waiting for the Laridian product has been absolutely worth it. It is a very high quality app, which has thoughtfully been designed to take advantage of the iPhone interface.
If you are an existing Laridian customer, you automatically get access to your library of previous purchases. If you have never used Laridian’s PocketBible before – do not hesitate to try this. Though the free stuff you have access to mightn’t include the Bible version you prefer, it at least gives you a taste of how PocketBible works. If you like it, then you can buy Bible versions galore, commentaries, Bible dictionaries, devotionals, etc, from Laridian’s website.
Craig and Jeff you have not only brought PocketBible to the iPhone, but you have excelled in the high quality of outcome. “Well done, good and faithful servant(s)!” (Mt 25:21, NIV)
This is by far the best Bible application bar none!
By: tomlawia - Sep 16, 2009
I have had Laridian's applications on my old PDA. I was able to download this app and connect to their web site and download 5 bibles, 3 commentaries, Greek, Hebrew, and Daily Devotional in less than 15 minutes. It then took another 10-15 minutes to customize the app to show my books and bibles in my viewing preference.
This is way easier to use than the old PDA version!!
What can I say I love it!
Totally awesome - atlast a bible app that is iphone worthy!
By: EK13 - Sep 16, 2009
Well worth the wait as this app finally provides a truly iphone centric quality app from people who have long been known for creating greating bible study software. For many years I enjoyed using this app on my Palm, and have always been sad that I did not have it available to me for the iphone....but now I do. Best of all, this company has integrity and clearly cares about their customers - not only was the app free, but they also let me have every bible and reference book I have EVER bought for an older platform, converted for iphone, FREE! Frankly, I'm impressed. Especially when I compare this to my mistaken purchase of BibleXpress (which I long ago wasted $30 on based on the developers unkept promise to spend 80% of this very high app price on royalties for new versions - which have not ever been added). And although I look forward to even more functionality as they upgrade the platform, this is already a far more useable than any of the others I have tried. Great job Laradian!

I must have downloaded and used all the bible apps from the iTunes store. This is simply the best. The only software that is a distant second is Mantis but it not free and books on Mantis are exorbitantly priced. PocketBible is just superior to anything out there and it is free. Laridian has been in the mobile bible software business for years and they have loads of books and bibles. I highly recommend it. Download this software and you will not need any other bible software. It is that simply.
PocketBible is Amazing
By: Marty's Gem - Sep 16, 2009
PocketBible is the most amazing application! It is the most powerful and convenient bible application that I have used on the iPhone and I have used a number of them. Not only is it a great app, it also lets me use all of the bibles and references that I have purchased over the years for the Windows Mobile version. It has certainly been worth the wait. While the iPhone version doesn't have all of the features of its Widows Mobile counterpart yet, it is a much better app. Keep up the great work! I am looking forward to the plannned updates which will provide feature parity in the near future.
Best Bible program out there for the iPhone
By: 77Jam - Sep 16, 2009
I have tried every Bible program on the iPhone. I am a Bible teacher at a University and up till now have not been able to truly use my iPhone for much other than just reading the Bible. Now, I can access a great breadth of resources with far more ease than any of the competitors out there. The greatest thing of all is that they allow you to use anything you purchase with them across any of their platforms. I had some books with them back from when I used their software on my Palm Pilot and was surprised to find that the 4 books I bought back then were immediately transferred to my iPhone. No other company does that! The program is quite solid and they are actively working on updates. The list of applications that come free with is as well is quite extensive. They could easily charge more than their competitors and instead are offering it for free. I'm quite impressed!

I've used Laridian software since my Handspring Visor days. The PocketBible for the iPod Touch/iPhone continues to demonstrate their attention to detail and desire to develop quality products. I sent them a quick email after getting going with PocketBible suggesting one possible enhancement ( a minor preference issue, nothing of any major significance) - I was sent a reply quickly that was personal and mentioned that my feedback was part of their plans down the road. Not only is the product well done, it uses resources already purchased for other platforms (got to love that!), and they have the support to back up their product. Looking forward to watching where this product develop over the coming months as they add features and improve an already fantastic product. What a great beginning for Laridian on their app!
Best Bible Software On ANY PLATFORM !
By: Richcwood - Sep 16, 2009
This newest software from Laridian Simply is the best Bible software on any platform. I have had Pocket Bible for at least 10 years and severall versions and this is far superior to them all ! And it's FREE !!! The only other app I would give 5 stars to is iBird Pro. iBird Pro sells for $29.95 and is worth every penny. This is worth at least twice that price . The developer of this software deserves 5 stars from everyone who downloads it. He put his heart and soul into this and it shows he is a true Christian. With him it's not about the money It's about spreading the word of God. But we all know it took alot of time and money to develop such a wonderful app. The app is very user friendly and just far superior to anything else out there.I know with this app I will be able to spend alot more time reading God's word now. Wow! how wonderfu it is to have the word of god with me no matter where I go !! You owe it to yourself to download this app if you are a Christian or not.And you should also by more books and stuff to support this man who gave us so much for FREE !!
By: pjanz - 16-Sep-2009
Having been an avid palm user for the last 5 years until recently (with the recent purchase of an iPhone), I was very happy to see this important program ported over. I was able to download all me existing translations that I've purchased over the last 4 years right onto my iPhone, with no glitches! This is indeed a very good "version 1" start for Laridian's "PocketBible" for the iPhone. I'm looking forward to the update that will allow me to import my verse "highlights" from my palm (many years worth of highlighting). Perhaps there could also be the option to draw in the coloured highlights (as on the palm), to include only the words I really want accentuated (not just verse by verse highlighting). Thanks Laridian for bringing the app free to the store!

If I may be so bold...this is the app we've all been waiting for! Many of us are already familiar with the developers, Laridian, and have thoroughly appreciated the software they've created for multiple mobile platforms. They do a masterful job, across the board--wonderful user interface assists, Help files, individual options and settings, available to suit your personal preferences, expansive availability of additional purchases, including a broad range of Bibles, commentaries, devotionals, dictionaries, etc. They are all here. After only a brief period of time, I've already downloaded my existing purchases, and added additional books, each task executed with ease.
These developers care about their users' experience. They respond to the inquiries and needs of their users. They've already promised additional features will be added, and they will make them available in a timely manner. Now that PocketBible is on my iPhone, all is well.
Finally, my appreciation to the developers for making the basic app available to users FREE! This allows us, in challenging economic times, to spend our money, populating our PocketBible with our choice of wonderful titles. Lord bless the folks @ Laridian, for their efforts and consideration, in having made available to us, this wonderful application.
Worth the wait
By: Rh1972 - 16-Sep-2009
I have been waiting a long time for this! I have used Pocket Bible on both the windows and palm platforms, and it's finally here for iPhone. Although the available features are still a little limited, Laridian has always improved the software on every platform they have, and at no cost to the user. Plus I'm able to download all my previous book purchases from the other platforms onto this new one at no cost. I look forward to see what get added in with each update.
