Can't put it down. By: Secret Engineer - Nov 9, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 I, like many others, was hesitant to buy this even though I use the web-based application frequently. However, once I made the decision to go for it I am happy I did. I have been using this app all weekend for various answers to both the practical as well as the incredible. As an engineer, I will use this app constantly in my day to day work. It is actually easier to use the W|A app for certain calculations rather than reaching for my trusty HP49G. Aside from the pure calculation strength of this app, there are huge amounts of information and data it provides as well. For those of you thinking, "Why not just use the web site via the iPhone browser for free?" Yes it's possible, and I did that for awhile, but the application gives you a much better (and faster) user interface experience. It really is a well-designed tool. I can easily recommend this app to anyone who is involved in science, engineering, architecture, design, education, art, sociology, politics, or any field where access to relevant information, historical data, or analysis is required. This is not a search engine. It's a real-time reference library and advanced calculator in the palm of your hand. Well worth the cost. 5 Stars.
Best. App. Ever. By: Skiffy1 - Nov 6, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 After effectively quoting Comic Book Guy, I can't help but stress how valuable this app is. Since downloading it a couple weeks ago, it has quickly become the most used app on my iPhone. The value proves itself whenever any type of data is needed. Google has always been my go-to reference book, but having to sift through the misleading results and non-relevant data is time consuming. Wolfram manage to provide accurate, reliable, and relevant data for almost every topic conceivable.
Where else can you get that information!? By: asslev - Oct 25, 2009 Version: 1.0 I was born in Tel Aviv on January 13th 1978. I wanted to to know what was the weather like and what else happend that day, so I typed: Jan 13th 1978 tel aviv; now I know! The amount and quality of knowledge one can exctract from this app is mind blowing! I will describe it like that: Imagine that you have a proffesional guy looking for stuff for you in different reference, knowledge base, and online sources; now, of course that you can do that yourself with Google (Web, Books, Scholar etc.), Wikipedia and other sources, however how would you know that the data you digged up is any good? In addition you get a graphing calculator; currencies converter (with historic values and different plots); and many other valuebale information tools. Now go and ask: Only 50$ ?!

"Waaaaaaa, it costs $50" By: keithATL - Oct 19, 2009 Version: 1.0 The predictable whining of some iPhone users has already started. "Waaaaaaa, it costs $50." Like the old saying goes... "Some people know the price of everything and the value of nothing." These same pathological cheapskates would be complaining if this app was priced at $1.99... ("I'll wait until Wolfram lowers the price to $.99."). The incredible power the Wolfram Alpha app puts in the palm of my hand is well worth the $50 price to me. Actually it is worth more, so I feel like I got a bargain. Yeah, I know you can also access this info through Safari, but the convenience & integration of the app is what I am willing to pay for... and it does that wonderfully! Lastly, this is not the most expensive iPhone app I have ever purchased. That honor belongs to a fantastic app called ForeFlight Mobile at $74.99 (also worth every penny). Like Wolfram Alpha, it isn't about the price, it's about the value.

Great for the areas it covers By: From93401 - Oct 31, 2009 Version: 1.0 Nice example of a cross between search a calculator and analytics. Yes you could Google most of this and put it together yourself but you have some work to create the same results. Certainly enough functionality for people who search and do analytics on a daily basis. I tried the free website first and found I use it a lot so the iPhone formatting and ease of use makes it that much more accessible and useful. It isn't cheap but for the price if one or two reference books you have the utility of a couple hundred on the iPhone. Ability to campare all kinds of things side by side is great for research. Hoping to see improvements on formatting and more analytics features.
Good By: dudegalea - 06-Nov-2009 Version: 1.0.1 This app provides a very neat interface to the Alpha engine. It generates very clean images, and allows you to copy the Mathematica code for displayed expressions (a feature I have already taken advantage of a couple of times).I'm using it mostly for mathematical queries, though it has also been useful for some economics. (For example, I asked it for the GDP of Earth, and it created a variety of stats that were useful in context, not just the direct answer to the question.)There are many queries that Alpha can't answer yet, as you can see for yourself by trying the web version. They say they're working on improving the engine all the time, so we'll see how this goes in the years ahead.-----The latest update (1.0.1) seems to have fixed the stability issues in the original release.
The more I use it, the better I like it By: pastorAg - Nov 10, 2009 Version: 1.0.1 even an artist/attorney finds this tool exactly what the iPhone was made for. Highly recommended.

Geek Heaven By: SnakeMagnet - Nov 3, 2009 Version: 1.0 Killer app. I am a Mathematica user ( and lover of Mathematica ). It is great to have some Mathematica functionality on my iPhone.
Keep it up, Wolfram! By: mechgyver - Oct 31, 2009 Version: 1.0 Any scientist or engineer will recognize and appreciate the tremendous potential and value of Alpha.
V1.0 By: drlittle - Oct 30, 2009 Version: 1.0 Although I agree with many comments on WA I bought the app as a token of support. It is a very aggressive project and vision. As the data is acculated the AI approach to retrival will mature. Although there is acces to much of the WA data there is presently no public access to the mass of data from one source. I have spent some time learning the WA style of NQL.
Best application ever on the iPhone I hoped it don't require internet connection By: Cfeingold1 - Oct 29, 2009 Version: 1.0 Well seriously people , we all know its available online but its an application anyway and wait till the updates and lets see , cause sometime when u write like mathematic subject like " Function " ull see a message saying wait till next update maybe they are trying to put lessons or something like that in the application anyway Great and pro application for education
Blown Away By: ethman - Oct 28, 2009 Version: 1.0 I can't believe the huge range of questions this can answer. The calculus stuff alone is worth the money. Well done.
Amazing! By: jonrosa - Oct 28, 2009 Version: 1.0 Spendy, but very cool. Where was this in b-school? Love it.
Great By: lorenb - Oct 27, 2009 Version: 1.0 Simple as that.

The Alpha Quadrant By: 3of5sector001 - Oct 20, 2009 Version: 1.0 The Collective finds this technology worthy of assimilation.
