Reviews:
Fantastic! By: tkingart - Sep 30, 2008 Version: 1.1 I needed this for common mistakes, and within 5 minutes of purchase I had already used it to check spelling errors and typos within documentation. (you know dumb mistakes like possition instead of position). If this sounds like you, then this app is for you as well.
I honestly have not tried other dictionaries, but the glowing reviews here, and awesome price for what you get convinced me to buy it. I'm glad that I did. Now if I could just work on my grammar.
Tips hat to the developers. Awesome work! 5 well deserved stars.
The once and future king... By: Tboomer - Sep 28, 2008 Version: 1.1 ...of dictionary/thesaurus programs for a mobile market. This is the first app I believe to be a must-have item for the Iphone. Worth the $$$! This program should be the standard bearer among reference programs.
Note to developers: if you want to design a fluid and accessible interface for an Iphone application, then buy this and study it. Thus far I haven't come across a program I enjoy more. Similarly, I have not discovered any words not contained in the program's database. Great job!!
Surprisingly Sufficient By: Brandon Kuzel - Sep 28, 2008 Version: 1.1 There are not many dictionaries of the English language in the app store and that is a tragedy in and of itself but this app almost makes up for it single-handedly. The user interface is really great for the long-time iPhone user because it's all very similar to the way that the native applications are operated making it nothing short of intuitive and natural to use. The complementary attribute to that is the quickness at which the application responds to input. It's just as quick as using the "contacts," and for that I give the developer a huge pat on the back. Those two things, coupled with the reliability of this application (it has never crashed on me) make it worth the money to me. As has been pointed out by other reviewers, the content could be better but it's sufficient and even practical for most non-professional uses. I'd say it's good enough for scholarly work as well as long as it's not post-graduate work. The bottom line is that it's worth the extra money over the free dictionaries available and it is significantly cheaper than the Merriam-Webster currently available for 24.99 that is not as user friendly and certainly not as good of a value.
Famously Great! By: FamoustarzLeague - Apr 13, 2009 Version: 3.2.2 I can't believe I'm actually GLAD that I purchesed a dictionary app, but I am. Even passing by the FREE dictionary.com app a week later didn't make me wince (alright, maybe just a bit, it was FREE) but I am happy with my purchuse, though the whole crossword bit is queit the muddle! I still can't bring myself to understand it queit yet. I do believe that you won't regret a dime spent buying this wonderfully genius app, that is, if you're a true logophilic as I. Oops, might have to "look that one up", but no worries, your buying this app, right?
WOW is all I have to say By: rud3n3ss - Sep 16, 2008 Version: 1.1 This application is not only a comprehensive dictionary and thesaurus, but also a good word finder. It allows you to use wild card characters to find words for cross words and scrabble. By far the most comprehensive dictionary and thesaurus on iTunes. Even the User interface is top notch. What impressed me the most was the cross references contained within the definitions. Competitors with this dictionary do some things well, or maybe one thing well, and that is fine, but Wordbook does everything I want/need VERY well. You can tell there was a massive amount of thought put into this application because it shows. It was well worth the money. I would even hazard to say it is worth more than what they are charging.
Embarassed to mispell By: SuperModifiedA/C - Sep 13, 2008 Version: 1.0 I write a lot of reports and kept a little pocket dictionary in my service truck because I can really trash the English language. I would have to write frequintly refered to words on that blank page in front. Ya it worked but this is way cooler. Gives me another tool and exquse to whip out the ol iPhone. I think the price was fair but hope new words or features will be added. Something like automatically opening to the word you are needing to spell would be sweet. Some times I spell so poorly I have to keep trying different spellings to find the word I'm looking for. Five stars evan with out psycic ability.
Just What I Was Looking For By: ctaie - Sep 11, 2008 Version: 1.0 I love this app. I've been looking for a good dictionary app since I purchased my iPhone. This app is wonderful, and is also one of the most reasonably priced dictionary apps available. It's great as is, but if the publishers listen to some of the feedback given and include it in future updates, this could be the the first and last dictionary app people will need for their iPhone or iPod Touch. Keep up the great work!
FANTABULOUS Dictionary & Thesaurus By: silvrtung5 - Mar 28, 2009 Version: 3.2.2 Absolutely the best I've seen, some other dictionaries do show synonyms, and WordBook is no exception, by tapping the little blue arrow brings up the synonyms, hypernyms and hyponyms etc. This is a very good reference, it is being updated quite often, I bought version 2.0 about 10 days ago, it's already up to version 3.3, and the updates are free, simply click the button to buy it, and a message comes up saying you already purchased, do you want to download for free, click yes, then resync. It's a sale price now for 3.99 and very well worth it, but don't just take my word for it, take the words of all the 5 star reviewers. Click yes if this review was helpful to you. Happy Referencing!
Awesome By: Nat O - Mar 28, 2009 Version: 3.2.2 As a writer, I'm always using the dictionary & thesaurus. What makes this app 5 stars is that it has words like tautology, amanuensis, and sibilate. In addition, it links to wikipedia for expanded info on a word. I love that it will also pronounce the word for you. This app is definitely worth the $4. If you want a cheaper app, then look at wiki word (I give that app 4 stars). Not a bad alternative.
Robust Dictionary/Thesaurus App! By: Rule13.1 - Mar 10, 2009 Version: 3.2.2 After using this application quite extensively for about three months now, I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. In fact, it's the best, and the most used application on my iPhone. I read daily - mostly classics - and have always tried to use a good dictionary concurrently while reading. In the past, the problem has always been tiny print or a huge book. This application eliminates both problems. It's awesome! I use it all the time.
This is like a fifty pound (22.68 kg) dictionary / thesaurus in your fingers. It's extremely rare to ever come across a word which is not contained in this app. I was considering a calculator-style, electronic dictionary just a few years back, and now I'm so happy I don't have that $100 paperweight laying around, collecting dust.
I rarely write reviews and I never give idle flattery. I feel I've used this application thoroughly enough to give a fair review and it deserves 5 stars. I have another dictionary application I never use. I only use WordBook besause it's so good.

This is my Go-To Dictionary on my Touch By: BoLaw - Mar 1, 2009 Version: 3.2.2 I own the amazing OED (Oxford English Dictionary multivolume set) and had hoped to get something like it on my Touch for my work as a lawyer/writer/editor. My purchase of one of the Concise Oxford Dictionary Apps was disappointing, as that dictionary fell short: lacking in etymology and less comprehensive than I had expected. It was also $24.99 compared to WordBook's $3.99. WordBook is more like my OED than Oxford's Concise Dictionaries. I love using it. Absolutely love it. I always find what I need to find, and more. And it is immediately intuitive in its processes. Thank you for the great quality and value in this product!
Bang for your buck By: couchpotatoo - 31-Jan-2009 Version: 3.0 For $5(was as low as 2.49 from mem.) it's visual interface, ease of use and features are right up there with the oxford's and other concise dictionaries. I refer to this app almost occasionally to increase my knowledge and help my average spelling capabilities ;) I've bought quite a few apps(understatment with app sniper) and this is one on my main screen. Buy it if you want a highly competent mobile dictionary.
Outstanding for Price By: Tingel - 17-Jan-2009 Version: 3.0 Great for what I want a dictionary for: excellent and comprehensive word definitions, pronunciation using the "International Phonetic Alphabet" (IPA), etymologies (word histories of many words - if I know the word's origin it helps me remember the word, so I like a dictionary to have this feature). Also, you can click on any word in a definition and it will take you to it's own definition. Some words have links to extra information including: synonyms, hypernyms (more generic terms), hyponyms (more specific terms) and "derivationally related" terms. I haven't used the thesaurus yet, but I'm writing this review because the app. is on sale and for my particular needs it's the best cheaper dictionary available and in some ways it even rivals the expensive ones. I bought the app. when it was more expensive and thought it was great value then.
Essential for elucidating potentially discombobulating aspects of the English lexicon. By: haydenmalc - 13-Oct-2008 Version: 1.1 An immediate consequence of the aquisition of this application was an induction of a flummoxed state in laypeople upon citing terms from my now exorbinate vernacular. Seriously though, this is a great dictionary, fast, comprehensive, bug free, and there's no need to have internet access to use it. There are a plethora of terms and I've yet to search for a word that it didn't have a definition for. This is on my iPhone's home page. Worth the money.
Amazing! By: Jake the amazed - Feb 20, 2009 Version: 3.2 Note: I did not use the dictionary to right this so overlook spelling errors please.
Omg! This dictionary rox! I am a iep (individual edgucation plan) high school student. My iep is for spelling trouble mostly so I use the phonetic searching a lot! So I can put the word I want in the way I think it should sound and it gives me a list including sounds like! I also love vocabulary and learning new words so the words of the day are super fun. The thousoris has greatly improved scors on several of my papers. Also, finally, the dictionary. It has grate definions and I love the ability to get definitions of words in the definitions by just taping the word. It is a lot faster for parts of speech then a paper dictionary and has amazing explanations as to origin of words. Honestly, this dictionary is worth a lot to me and is worth every penny I payed.
P. S. If you read this whole thing, I applod you. Thank you.
P. P. S. I never have writen a review about anithing b4 because I never have had strong enough feelings eather for or aginst anything to deam it worthy of my time to write a review. Just so you know.
Great dictionary! By: TNSam - Feb 18, 2009 Version: 2.0 Wow, I just had time to download all latest software updates and WordBook rocks! All my wishes came true. I didn’t expect much from a dictionary with a price tag of $7.99 but it did really surprise me with a good quality and value. My compliment to the developer who made it blend very well with iPhone interface (the best iPhone dictionary interface I’ve seen so far). One of the features I like most is word search (that BTW support ?, * wildcards). It also has anagram finder but I haven’t tried yet. Word definitions are standard from Princeton university’s WordNet project. I find the format very easy to read with synonyms at the end of every definition. There is no pronunciation guide/audio with this app. I am very happy with this download, worth every penny!
Full featured and beautiful application! By: Song Ah - Oct 17, 2009 Version: 3.6 The latest update (version 3.6) made me love your application even more. The new layout is more attractive, professional with iPhone standard interface. I can edit all features in the application and add Note. The real voice of Ms. Sue is so lovely. Keep up great job! Version 2.0: I am impressed with your creative ability in this version. What I and my classmates love the most is the features to open 5 web-based dictionaries in your product. That's mean we have 6 dictionaries in total including your offline dictionary. We set Answer, Wiki, Google, Oxford and Meriam Webster online dictionaries. Some strange word we searched on wiki have picture included. It's very informative for students like us. The look up feature by tapping on any text, even in the thesaurus and in etymology is very excellent too. We never tried any dictionary with more feature than this. Yours is the best. To anyone who need a dictionary, if you don't mind "non-brand name" dictionary, save money and buy this app. You will be surprised with its powerful features. Version 1.1: It's not a normal dictionary. It's a "modern & multi-function” dictionary. I really like this app and use this very often to look up definitions, jump from words to words with word links and solve a lot of word games to relax. This app is really helpful. It's super fast and save a lot of time. I will definitely keep this app on my iPhone.
Excellent Application! Loving it. By: Aurora C. - Sep 24, 2009 Version: 3.6 With audio, this is a solid 5 star app. I come back to thank the developer for the recent update (word finder), it's a great feature for puzzle lover like me. I changed from 4 stars to 5 stars. At first I bought Wordbook because its unique search feature, it's absolutely amazing, incredible fast. Wordbook is a very nice package with much improved interface (thanks to the great OS). It has an very mpressive word coverage of more than a language dictionary. I often find myself using it as a compact encyclopedia to look up unfamiliar names or terms.
Sample Sentences By: Jamac1234 - Sep 24, 2009 Version: 3.6 I love this app, I definitely use it more than once a day. Whether it's people that need saving in a crossword puzzle or some huge word during school, this app seems to prevail. One suggestion though, maybe add some sample, or example sentences along with the definition and origin. Or maybe examples of the word, the reason im saying this is because I needed the definition of "euphanism" and it was rather confusing without an example. But still an incredible app!
Best Dictionary Ever By: Ferro_Kid - 28-May-2009 Version: 3.5 As a translator, I have met a lot of dictionaries in my time, and few beat this little gem. Not only does Wordbook contain even the most obscure entries, it offers extensive etymological information. In fact, Wordbook is so complete it almost qualifies as an encyclopedia. So whatever its technical faults may be (slow loading and such), Wordbook is the best dictionary out there period! Anyone who's serious about the English language should get this app.
