Reviews:
2 Star App By: ybfree - Oct 9, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 This was a 5 star app. But It has been surpassed by:WORDS WITH FRIENDSWords with Friends is Scrabble but it's WAY better. You can play against anybody, anywhere. Across the room or across the world. No need for Wifi. It works over your cell connection. AND IT'S FREE.
Loading takes forever By: 90024 - Oct 9, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 Very buggy, loading takes forever, too many ads, loses wifi connection in mid game.
Where's the wifi? By: alexus309 - Oct 11, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 My partner and I both bought this game so we could play each other wirelessly. But every time we try to connect we get the error "You are not connected to a wirelss network" even though we both ARE connected to the same network. Get this bug fixed and we'll love it!
How many points for "C-R-A-S-H"? By: Deaconblues89 - Jul 13, 2008 Version: 1.0.20 I was surprised to find that this game malfunctions. What I meant by crash in the title is that it will enter into its beautiful loading screen displaying the name Scrabble and then freeze, making it impossible for me to use the phone until I restart it. Sometimes it lets me play for a little while before freezing, so I can honestly say that the interface and gameplay are refined and engaging. However, out of the many paid and free apps I have downloaded, this is the only one to malfunction. Hopefully, this will be sorted out soon. For a $9.99 game, and a Hasbro product no less, it should work properly.
Made for beginner players By: Disappointed Scrabbler - Oct 12, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 Very disappointed. I've been playing the quick game, which is not very challenging compared to the Scrabble games available for Windows or Palm based PDAs. This version seems to only have the "Easy" mode -- I've been soundly beating it (at least by 200 pts). I would have expected this to have an option to change levels to make it more challenging. It looks like more attention was paid to the special effects and sounds instead of the quality of the game.
Fun but ... By: Hikerdad - Oct 13, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 The ads are really annoying. In a purchased game I don't expect ads. The game would be much better if it had a dictionary link that would tell what the more obscure words mean.
Every other game crashes By: FredFern - Oct 13, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 Every other quick play game, after I start with a word the computer player erases it, plays over it, and goes into an infinite loop. It's broken. And, at the EA web site I can't tell them this unless I make an account!
Don't update to 1.2.98! By: Duzzenmatta - Oct 13, 2009 Version: 1.2.34 Like the others say, earlier versions let you play others on your iPod. No pop-up ads either. Then came the update. I'm glad that I back-up and read reviews before updating. Hope you do too.
:( By: Topher C - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 I still like the game. Used to like it a lot more. Update is bad. Wish i hadnt done it. Older version was 4 stars.
Not worth $4.99 By: Welliecooldog - Oct 16, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 It's a good game but not worth $4.99. I would pay a dollar for this game at the most!
Too many ads By: Play! - Oct 17, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 It's a fun game and works reasonably well but there are too many ads and the game menus are not well thought out. The ads make me think twice about buying any EA game.
Has potential By: BriGuy775643 - Oct 18, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 Loved playing the original game with friends and family. Unfortunately the advertised wifi play mode doesn't work so I'm stuck playing against my iPhone. LAME! I've sent several emails to EA, but I've gotten no response. If you like to play with actual human beings, which is the real point of Scrabble, I'd recommend saving your money until EA steps up and supports their product.
Disappointed By: Chillithecat - Oct 19, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 I love Scrabble, but this app needs A Lot of work. First, quit with the ADS ~ very annoying. How about a decent dictionary with definititions? What happened to pass and play? You'd think this would have been a cinch game to develop, but you're either trying too hard or not enough depending on which feature you're trying to improve. Updates please!!!! You'll get more $$ without the ads too. Those wanting to buy based on a review.....my advice says ~ DON't ~ at least this version.
Eh By: itgirl8 - Sep 25, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 With the latest update, now there is a huge ad to buy more EA games and music player freezes everytime I hit the button. The battery, clock display covered the top of the board so I can only see scores, no player names. I find the menu screen busy and multiple times while playing a game it would bring me to the menu page...I love this game and was excited to update due to the ability for push notifications but now I wish I held off
Disappointed by the update By: Emmabrigham - Sep 26, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 I used to play predominantly against the computer/my iphone instead of another person, and am very disappointed that this option has disappeared with the update. Please bring it back...!
Could be/was better By: EricSten - Oct 20, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 Gotta love when you PURCHASE an app and THEN get ads. Must say the older version was better, no ads, pass and play, and the wi-fi connection worked more often not. With the recent "upgrade" things got worse, not better. Still it is fun to play even if the wi-fi drops connection or doesn't even connect half the time.
Also disappointed By: Bryar83 - Oct 20, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 I guess I overstepped myself when I assumed that since I PAYED for this app, I wouldn't be bothered with silly ads after every game of EA trying to hawk their other products. Save it for the free version please. This is a great game. I play it all the time. I only give it two stars because I'd like to be treated like a customer and not a freeware mooch.
why!? By: jc2780 - Sep 30, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 Since when does an upgrade mean removing GOOD features, such as pass & play, and adding NEGATIVE features, such as advertisements?! I'm incredibly disappointed. Bring back pass & play!!!!
EA does not listen to feedback By: Lacra - Sep 25, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 I bought this game immediately when it came out. MAJOR problems:1) Ultra slow start-up: Likely culprit is the über heavy animation sequence. Three different logos (Scrabble, EA tile, Hasbro sequence) 2 of which are animated. A reminder to EA: we ALREADY PAID AND BOUGHT THE GAME!!!! Don't try to sell it to me again!2) Some very common words aren't recognized. This is absurd, especially considering it's a paid game. 3) Considering I paid for it, I do not think it's cool to prominently feature ads within the game every time. It's annoying and makes loading time longer in an already taxing app.4) Facebook "chat" feature: the fact that EA doesn't make use of the existing iPhone OS dictionary API for the chat is just embarrassing. No autocorrection, no auto punctuation. This one is the product of negligence, plain and simple. THE GOOD:Although some people might have a problem with the aesthetics, I think the latest release makes it easier to get to the games, ESP. Facebook ones. I also appreciate the possibility of picking out music.
computer player cheats By: cattbert - Oct 24, 2009 Version: 1.2.98 I read a lot of negative reviews discussing the inclusion of ads for other EA programs. While I do not think a $5 app should have ads, I did not consider that a deal breaker. My big problem is that the computer player uses non-words, such as "jun" and "rho". Maybe it would be worthwhile for multi-player against other humans, but I am not sure I will continue using it as it is too frustrating to watch the computer player make things up.
Crashes By: Kusafugu - Jul 15, 2008 Version: 1.0.20 It just keeps crashing every time I try to use it. Looks great before it crashes and I'm sure is a lot of fun, but it just doesn't work. I feel like ten bucks is just gone.
