Almost there... By: Sundustnet - Mar 4, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 I can't listen to music while I play? Seriously? You're running on a platform that music built.
Good, but... By: HydePryde - Mar 11, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 There needs to be some way to turn off the music that plays every time you start the game (even when your phone is on silent!). Loud music blaring out of my iPhone just isn't appropriate in some situations, which means I can't play the game whenever I want. Fix this problem please!!!!!
Why the startup music? By: Gripman - Mar 25, 2009 Version: 1.1.88 Great game, easy-to-use gameplay. I give it 3 stars instead of 5 because there is no way to turn off the music that plays when the app starts up. It's loud, annoying, and makes every person within ten seats of me on the train give me a dirty look when I start to play. Please, please, please, EA, let us turn the music off!
Liked the original better . . . By: C in CT - Mar 26, 2009 Version: 1.1.88 Great, addictive game, but: 1) Please eliminate the opening sound (I turn my volume all the way down to mute it.); 2) Make it possible to resume a game from the opening screen, rather than having to drill down; 3) I generally play against the computer, and I liked that name better than CPU; 4) Would be great if you could allow the user to customize the top level screen, so that frequently-chosen options are visible and other options can be hidden; 5) A great feature would be to point at a word and have its definition appear. Other than that, well done!
New version crashes! By: kep23 - Mar 31, 2009 Version: 1.1.88 I would give the new version 5 stars if it were not crashing my touch so much. It's not just my iPod, it also crashes my friends iPhone between each turn he takes.
Words By: Newskeptic45 - Apr 15, 2009 Version: 1.1.88 More than half the words the game uses are fake. I looked in the official scrabble dictionary (don't make fun) and every other dictionary I own. The letters "gm" is not a word unlesss your talking about general motors. Other than that................Super
EAMobile website doesn't seem to know the iPhone is out By: clem1724 - Jul 16, 2008 Version: 1.0.20 Not seeing any sign that an update was coming I headed over to EAMobile via the link on this page for the latest word from EA.Whoops - nothing there. Its 5 days since the launch, their app is super popular and super buggy (and expensive), butthe web team is out to lunch (eg, still lists iPhone Scrabble as coming soon). Let's get some communication going EA!Hopefully the engineering team is more engaged ...
Nice game, but bugs are a detraction By: jiva - Jul 17, 2008 Version: 1.0.20 First of all, this is a nice game for the iPhone. But the bugs are painful... I really hope that they are fixed soon, especially for a $9.99 game.- If I turn the phone on silent, the game still plays it's music during start up... this is really annoying- I've had it crash several times on start up. Once it even rebooted the entire phone. Once I accidentally tilted the phone a little so was in landscape mode during the loading, and it crashed.- Please, please, please give me a way to turn off that annoying start up animation!!
Game's okay - but why not compatible with listening to sounds? By: mauimamaw - Oct 13, 2008 Version: 1.0.53 I'm using on iPhone 3G - game's fine, but why can't you play it without shutting off the iPod function. Dumb!
Glad to have Scrabble on the phone, but it could be better By: LindaOB - Nov 16, 2008 Version: 1.0.53 I love Scrabble, and have spent way too many hours playing this on my iPhone. I have a couple minor gripes about the touch interface and how getting letters on and off the board could be improved. I also find the sound and timing of the splash screen totally irritating - if I'm killing time in a meeting, I sure don't want everyone to hear my game starting up. My biggest gripe is that there is no guidance on what dictionary is being used, no option to accept words that aren't in the dictionary or challenge words, and no optional dictionaries. The game has crashed a few times in the opening screen, but overall seems stable.
It's ok By: Maxsiss - Dec 21, 2008 Version: 1.0.53 It's has a really nice interface, runs smoothly, all and all it's a good game except for one thing: it looks like the letters are not shuffled but every time i start a new game all the letters i get are either all vowels or consonants, even later in the game...
Noway, does this game suq? By: Ltjg Durham - Jan 3, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 Well, it's not THAT bad, but with a dictionary that includes "suq" and "noway", this game could still use some polish. It's easy enough to beat every time too, so if your ego needs a boost, download it by all means.
Not as good as the Palm version, but entertaining By: Parchos - Jan 18, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 I was an avid player of the Palm version of Scrabble and find this one lacking. First, words that were admissible in Palm are now not admissible in this version. I am not sure how extensive is the dictionary that is being used to validate the words.Second, if you put down a word that is not in the dictionary, you do not lose a turn (at least when playing against the computer). Therefore, there is no risk to putting down a wrong word. These are not the rules of the real Scabble.I would like to be able to control the level of the difficulty better. I am at the highest difficulty level and am beating the computer more often that I ever could under the Palm version.
Nice By: Linus DaMinus - Jan 20, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 It doesn't have the word "damn"... Seriously??? My official Scrabble dictionary has that word. And the info page for this app says it has the complete Scrabble dictionary. What gives? How many other words have been censored from this app?!?
Great game but the music... By: jessak - Feb 1, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 I don't know about others, but I do use my phone as an iPod. It would be great if the ingame music could be turned off. I love it otherwise. Except the intro. But I read enough reviews complaining about that.
"best word" button By: Scrabbleking - Feb 14, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 The game is great, but when your playing your friend in pass and play mode all you have to do is hit the "best word" button and it will cheat for you by putting in words. That's fine but there should be a way to shut it off.
Needs A Level Between Medium And Hard By: xxx1xxx - Feb 21, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 Medium is too easy, and Hard is unrealisitcally absurd.
Does not recognize common words By: PicStar - Mar 3, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 This game is good with great graphics of the board but could you do something about it recogning words that everyone has heard of? It did not recognize the word "Iran" (huh?)as well as some other common words which changed the outcome of the game. Please fix, otherwise very fun game.
Where's the DICTIONARY???? By: N8Rmom - Mar 7, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 I am a lifelong scrabble fan and I've spent a lot over the years on board games, dictionaries, pc versions, and mobile versions... the one I had for my "ancient" ipaq rocked compared to this one. This one's pretty, but it seems ridiculous not to have included a word lookup function. You have to play a word and see if it's rejected. Especially when you have kids/teens using it, it's beneficial to check a word and get the short definition - making it educational too. I bought this a while ago and hoped it would be added by now. I really hope less time is spent on the sound effects and flashy effects. Scrabble lovers will appreciate good game play over bells and whistles.
In need of at least one major change... By: PureWhispers - Mar 18, 2009 Version: 1.0.53 Please, PLEASE allow us to use our own music! The background music in this game is annoying and it shuts off the iPod music, even if the sound is disabled. Allow the music in the game to be properly disabled, but allow sound effects and iPod music to keep going! I probably would have rated this 5 stars were it not for this one immense, glaring issue. Please fix it!
Words? By: the loc moj - Apr 6, 2009 Version: 1.1.88 Like all Scrabble programs, this one uses "words" from the Scrabble dictionary that you've never heard of and are not in any other English dictionary. These are seemingly random 2- and 3-letter combinations (like "zzz", "suq", or "aa") that are great for getting quick points, getting rid of tiles you can't use, or blocking. Problem is, unless you've memorized the Scrabble Dictionary, you don't know any of these "words", and this makes it frustrating even at the lowest skill setting because the computer uses them as crutches. EA/Hasbro needs to add an option to use a dictionary that contains only recognized English words to keep this game enjoyable.Otherwise, the game plays OK, but maybe needs to give a little more to help you make sure your finger drop the tile where you want to.
