This app is crazy bad. I type inBrighton Beach and it gives me Seattle. I type in Williamsburg and it gives me places in Manhattan. Utterly useless. Yelp, I expected more from you.

Better than the equivalents I have tried (WhereTo, Vicinity & AroundMe). And I love the new augmented reality feature (shake the phone 3 times from the "nearby" screen to activate it, and you should get a pop-up and a "monacle" button in the top right - 3GS only). Results are much more extensive than the competition. Great app.

This app is very handy, and seems to be more popular now. I'm surprised there are not more reviews. The list of restaurants and bars, which I use most, has increased vastly. The more people that use this app the better it will become. It was very handy for finding a bar in toronto, while I was standing at a corner, thinking of where I should go, that was nearby.

The very first time I tried using Yelp I searched for local cafes. It claimed that there was one 0.5 miles away, but even the address in the app has it more than 5 miles away! I couldn't immediately see any way of flagging this problem either, so din't expect that it will improve very much over time. The user interface keeps surprising me with its ugliness - I wish developers (or is it designers justifying their existence?) would just stick to standard boring non-eyeball-searing colours layout etc. It's the data we want, you idiots! Oh, and I didn't think much of the compulsory picture during registration. Pointless when done this poorly. Hoping for better in later versions.

for UK users like myself, the only thing to do to make this app great is by logging in online and writing reviews, you can't expect there to be loads of local reviews already on there about your local chippy if knowone knows about. it's user updated...

Search doesnt work

Every time i tried to use the search portion of the app the screen went white and wouldnt load. This stopped me from using the app for months beacuse everything except your favorites are linked to the search part!I never figured out how to fix this, and i havent seen any updates. So i just deleted the app! LAME!

I'm in downtown Vancouver and there are few listings?! Also I read about how businesses can pay Yelp to get their reviews 'cleaned up' so how can I trust the reviews? UrbanSpoon will remain my first choice for food.

I'm new to apps. I got Yelp because Sunday Time list it as 4 in their top 10. If Yelp is 4 out of thousands, then I can't understand the attraction of apps. Yelp does not list a pub 300 yds from my house or a petrol station a little over a mile away, but Yelp does list a petrol station a couple of miles away, which I am certain does not exist. It lists 1 yes 1 restaurant in Chester UK and that is a Fish and Chip shop. Surely, Yelp is for strangers to an area. If it is not accurate there is no point in it. As others have said "a good idea badly executed."

Yelp is seamless, the best commercially available interactive use of a series of "locator" applications I have used. Ask it to find any number of local services or products and it will give you not just a broad set of alternatives but instant information about each including detailed maps with no need to leave the yelp platform. Exceedingly useful and a program well ahead of others.

I don't stay in one place much so it's great that I can jump onto Yelp and look up local businesses and places of interest wherever I am. Love the map/GPS connectivity and think Yelp is really working on building more Canadian content. As of now there's lots to choose from. Be great to do reviews on the run but this isn't a feature just yet. I'm having tons if fun with Yelp regardless.

Very amateurish. You must upload a photo? You can't use a number in a name field? You can only finalise your review on the website??? Please. Grade F. Send the student who wrote this back home and find some experienced developers. There are quite a few out of work right now. They shouldn't be too hard to find. You'll have to pay them this time of course :)

The only issue that I have with this app (not having ever been a Yelp user previous to having this app on my iPhone), is that there are restaurants that I know are near my house, work, etc that don't ever show up when I search for restaurants near my location. Not sure if this is a case of a user not having added these restaurants before, but it just doesn't seem right. Also, am I the only person who wants to see Fast Food places near me? Cause I can't figure out how to show those near my location.... If they are included in the app at all.
