Reviews:
I still can't write reviews? By: Dougyfly - Dec 9, 2008 Version: 1.1.0 I love yelp, but i'd like the option of being able to write reviews on the app itself.
Deserves 5 stars By: Vzhic - Dec 9, 2008 Version: 1.1.0 I use this app all the time and do not get all the negative reviews, I mean it takes time to implement new features I would give a 1 star to a non functional app but come on! Yelp is a 4.5 at least with this new version.
Great app!! By: mophor - Dec 9, 2008 Version: 1.1.0 Use it all the time! Program is simple and has everything you need! Thanks!
Mobile Reviews Still Absent! By: edoeding - Dec 9, 2008 Version: 1.1.0 Two key things missing:1) Ability to rate/review using the iphone2) Integration with google maps for directionsThese are basic. Why are they missing?!?!
Cannot post YELP reviews By: d⋅a⋅v⋅i⋅d - Dec 9, 2008 Version: 1.1.0 Yelp is so much more than just reading reviews. User added reviews are Paramount to a worthy yelp app. I look forward to future updates.
Okay... By: Woobacca the Chookie - Dec 7, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 I would like for this app to give the restaurants closest to me and then be able to sort them by top rated. Maybe this is possible and I am just a little slow. Please make that easier. For now, I don't think it's helpful to say, "Hey, I'm here, what restaurant can I go to?" The only useful thing I use this app for is if I know where I am going, to check out some Yelp reviews.
A good mobile interface that gets the essential parts of the website onto your phone By: Destron - Dec 6, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 Yelp is one of my favorite programs. I have an account on Yelp (it’s free) and enjoy reading and writing reviews for local restaurants and businesses. This app has an excellent interface. Scenario 1. You are on in the Westlake area of L.A. (Around MacArthur Park — Not your usual haunt) and you get a craving for some good grub. Unfortunately, you are in the ghetto and do not no where to go. You could take a chance with a bacon wrapped hotdog or you could bust out your iPhone and Yelp for something better. Let’s see… search for restaurants nearby. I can choose from Kike’s Tacos, Langer’s and Dae Bok. Click reviews and I can see what other people liked about the restaurant. Click Directions to Business and it shows me how to get there from my current locations using Google Maps. Scenario 2. You are in Studio City and you know you want to go to Caioti Pizza for one of their wicked pizza’s and a salad… but you can’t quite remember where it is. Click search, Caioti Pizza, and it is the first hit. Directions to Business and you are on your way. The yelp app is very good at what it does. However, the app does not replicate the complete functionality of the website. You cannot leave ratings, reviews, make friends or give other peoples’ ratings a thumbs up. You can read, get directions, and bookmark places you liked or wanted to try out. I would like the ability to mark other peoples’ reviews as interesting or funny in a future version. I don’t see myself writing a full restaurant review on the iPhone touch pad… but some people might. All in all, a great little app that sits on my front page.
Yelp are extortionists... By: killahoe - Dec 6, 2008 Version: 1.0.2 Yelp are extorionists using Web 2.0. They make small bus pay $300/month or else they will post a 1 star review that appears on google when a search is ran. Also, bus can not get over 3 stars without paying. Yelp needs to be exposed for who they really are, which is a bunch of crooks. Don't believe me? Research it! Search google for "yelp extortion." Save small business. Don't use yelp.
Awesome By: Cageyberserker - Dec 5, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 This app is awesome. It allowed me to find places to eat in pretty rural areas. The only thing is that the listings are not always up to date because I went to a resturant and it was closed. Also it needs to have a google powered search so it can stay up to date locally.
Stable program - lacks feautures By: speener-d - Dec 4, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 No ability rate on the phone or see places you've rated before brings this down a bit. I really like Yelp as a service, and will hold on until they improve this, but for now this app is disappointing.
Nice in a crunch but the online version is better By: cmlee79 - Dec 3, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 So far, the app is not great at finding places nearby, you can't write a review and the listings on the app don't update (I've gone home and written reviews from the web and they don't show up through the app). It's definitely better than vicinity or around me, but that's not saying much
Great App By: Iatola of rock n rolla - Dec 2, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 Very good for trying to find new places to eat and drink. Use it mostly to find food by type so it's beneficial for finding good restaurants in my area that I don't already know about.
Could be much better By: kjcdude - Dec 2, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 The app is a good start, but alot of essential features are left out. When you search it doesn't sort according to distance. What's the point of looking for a restuarant when it shows #1 as a place over 30 miles from you. Also, you're unable to write reviews from the app. I'm really lost as to why you can't do this as Yelp depends on reviews.
Great App By: AnthonyArmy85 - Dec 2, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 What most people dont realize is that all you have to do is click on the "show google map" button and it'll come up on iPhone maps where you can easily find directions. If that option were intergrated this app would have gotten 5 starts. Also, I would have liked the sorting to be a bit more functional. Great App all in all.
Very useful By: macshaggy - Nov 30, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 If you ever needed a friend to suggest something good then this is the App for you. There is a website interface to make reviews and suggestions, this app in you iPhone means that you can always get good advice. The community is sparse in locations other than Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston, but there is a community.I live in Charlotte, NC and slowly I'm seeing the app get better because more people are taking the time to review places. What's really nice is that you can review all businesses in your area not just restaurants. And that is the power of the community because there is a source of information you can choose from.I going out West this Christmas and I can't wait to see what suggestions Yelp makes.
Can't write a review from the phone! By: Coneybeare - Nov 29, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 Huge oversight! The best time to write a review is while you are sitting in the place you are rating... I will change to 5 stars if you do this, or if you want to contract it out, I can do it for you
Missing Stuff By: icantremembershit - Nov 29, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 I do like this app! Better than Around me, because there are reviews of the places I am looking for. It is limited in that I can't write a review from the iPhone while my memory is fresh, and it misses places. I would say for a free app and I'm from out of town it is very useful.
Not In Kansas Anymore Toto By: TaraConklin - Nov 29, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 You wouldnt guess we were in Tampa either from looking at this app. Almost 4/5ths of the restaurants near me are missing, absent, MIA, nowhere to be found. For example they have First Watch listed but the 5 other restaurants that are literally right next door, like Bonsai Sushi, Bonefish Grill and Beef O'Bradys, all major chains are not shown. This has some serious potential if it was more complete. AroundMe and Urbanspoon list almost everything but we can't see or post reviews. So for a simple thing as finding a restaurant I have to use 3 separate apps. :(
Provide the extensive complete searches, the ability to write reviews from the app and this would be all I'd need. Hope an update is coming.
I LOVE YELP! By: SaNdRaHgArCiA - Nov 28, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 I had never used the onlive version of yelp, but I downloaded this app to try it out. I loved it from the get-go.It simply works! I use it on the go 90% of the time. The first time I used it to find the nearest Costco and after reading a couple of reviews I went to the costco who averaged best between distance and reviews and loved it. I clicked on "directions to business" and my iphone's map application loaded up within a second with driving directions to costco. While at costco I wanted to go to a Target nearby and it found it for me. Since then I've been hooked. I use it to get business #'s, addresses, directions, and of course reviews. I only wish I could write reviews from the iphone as I don't utilize the web app. I've found quite a few good (and not so good) restaurants I'd like to review while I'm waiting to be served. I would love to be able to review on the go. Any who, I love yelp! Give it a try. It's free and it just works. By the way, the app has never crashed on me and I've had it for a while now.
Fantastic app for travellers. By: Me in Phoenix - Nov 27, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 This is a fantastic app for travellers.
Absolutely awful By: Fotut - Nov 27, 2008 Version: 1.0.4 This shouldn't have any stars at all and it is far inferior to AroundMe. In my location it shows one restaurant which is a hot dog stand ! AroundMe shows 20+ and it is the same in each and every category. I downloaded Yelp out of curiosity and deleted it 10 minutes later. What on earth are the people at Apple doing to allow such junk ?
