Reviews:
Great start By: PegCo - Aug 14, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 I've always liked the work of OliveTree, I used the app on my Palm Treo - I'm so glad to see the BibleReader on the iPhone. I can't wait to get the bundle that has the RSV-CE.
It's finally here! This is one of the best Bible program on the market! By: themacuser123 - Aug 13, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 The wait is over. OliveTree's Biblereader has finally been ported to the iPhone. This is a superb program. OliveTree offers numerous translations and commentaries for your Bible study needs. I do have a few problem with this program: If you already own a large OliveTree library, you cannot transfer them to the iPhone. OliveTree, listen up - If Mantis Bible Study FOR THE IPHONE can add different versions directly from their own store website, why can't you guys? Adding Bibles, commentaries, and books does not break Apple's distribution rules. Mantis is not the only company that is selling add-ons directly from their own website, both Ereader and Stanza are also allowing people to add or buy ebooks directly from their own website, BibleReader should do the same! I shouldn't have to repurchase everything again! I will give this application more stars, if this problem can be solved.Pros:Continuous scrolling with a finger swip.Large selections of Bible translations and commentaries (Coming Soon)Be able to see the actual verse with the reference when doing a search.Fast result when doing search. Cons:Can't use you existing OliveTree library. Can't compare two different translations or see commentaries on split screenNo support for Greek and Hebrew right now.No support for horizontal displayFinal Summary:If you are in the market for a Bible program this is the best program available right now. (I have purchased three other Bible apps for the iPhone and this is the best program right now.) If you are an existing BibleReader user, you might want to wait until they add more features. This program feels half baked. It lacks many of the features in comparison to BibleReader for the Palm and PPC. I have been checking the web store every day hoping OliveTree will release this program, and now it has I must admit I do feel a bit let down. Do get me wrong, this is an awesome Bible app, but it is not polished. Maybe Laridian will do a better job when they release their Bible app for the iPhone. If you are new to BibleReader, this program is awesome. Buy it now!
OliveTree is simply the Best. Period. By: mactunes - Aug 13, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 I just placed BibleReader as one of the 4 apps on my 'dock' area of m Touch, replacing BibleScope. BibleScope has some nice features, though nothing beats BibleReader, esp. getting to verses QUICKLY (3 touches & you're there. Now, they just need to use the accelerometer and 'scroll' through the text when titled back or forward!I pray OliveTree seeks to increment BibleReader to match and excel beyond what the PDA version does.
Let's Stop Picking This Apart! By: Mike B 54 - Aug 12, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 Not a bad app, especially for free. Not a lot of bells & whistles, but a useful app. Why trash it when there is no Portuguese tranlation, when the description clearly states English, and all of the included translations are plainly listed? That is unfair to the developer, who spent time working on this.I had to update my review after reading Grace Church's scathing critique. I guess maybe Olive Tree Bible Software should've charged $29.95 or more for this, so then people would have a legitimate gripe. As it stands, for a free app, it's quite good, shortcomings notwithstanding. This is an INITIAL EFFORT and, from what I've seen, it's darned good. As far as adding books, yep, maybe it'll require an update or, perhaps in a future version, you'll be able to do an over-the-air update or purchase, but there so far isn't any app I've seen here that allows you to add content through iTunes (it's evidently a restriction Apple has placed on developers). I think Apple needs to revisit its review system to prevent the occasional "I hate this app because it doesn't do EXACTLY what I want" review from bringing down the average rating. My take... if you can do better, write your own app, and don't trash those who give you something for free!OK... updating this AGAIN after reading things like "This isn't the Palm Bible reader"! Of course it's not! If you take the time to visit the Olive Tree site, you will see this app on their front page, including what its shortcomings are, both limitations imposed by Apple and those occurring because this is a first release of the software. They also CHARGE for other platforms. This is a developer who seems genunely interested in ultimately proving the ultimate Bible reader for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Rather than slam it here, why not go to the developer site and provide CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. That would do far better than simply digging at it here.
Excellent product By: joshuatcarter - Aug 12, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 Have used olive tree for years and their products are always good. I just wish you could load previously purchased bibles into it, hope they'll work something out with apple to make that happen.
Still...this is by far the best bible program for the iPhone/Touch
Just what I was looking for By: Jon from Bucksport - Aug 12, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 This is the first reader I found that did not need Internet connection.
Pretty good for first version: 1.0 By: Frederick Bauman - Aug 11, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 + Only free app I've found to bundle MKJV, continuous scrolling, full selection of fonts and sizes, remembers last position, offline viewing.- no horizontal viewing, slow & jerky scrolling, feature thin.Given this is the first version, it shows promise, but needs lots of work to be taken seriously compared to the other Bibles available.
Palm BibleReader it is not! By: jfschultz - Aug 11, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 I have enjoyed using Olive Tree's BibleReader on may Palm PDA. It is a great full featured program. This iPhone version offers very little. It comes across as a quick response to Mantis Bible and so was released too soon. But it should be noted that the verse selection screens mirror the PDA version and is much better than the other iPhone Bible apps I have seen.
Great App! By: Drumkey87 - Aug 11, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 This is a great Bible app. Would be great to have the NIV version though.
the best bible on app store By: Jimmy3 - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 i would like like the new international version though because that is what my church uses. please make this available in the next update. click yes if you agree
The best Bible software for iPhone By: mtb_ebey - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 Quick and easy access to verses...I look forward to being able to add additional books.
... By: CivilCamo - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 Very easy to use as an eBible.
Yesss!!! By: RevJeff - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 When I left my Palm for my iPod touch Olive tree was the one thing I missed most. I also had a lot of add ons that I purchased. I am certain Olive Tree will just keep adding to this. They have always been great at listening to customer feedback and upgrading. I want Strongs Greek and Hebrew.
No original KJV???? By: CelticJim - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 Technically a good app but why not include the original KJV in this app...it is still one of the most popular translations ...much more so than the MKJV and it has no copywrite or authors to get permission from. Like I said a good application but not having the AKJV is a definate loss of 2 stars IMHO.
Good so far By: mathom - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 Well on its way to becomming a very nice Bible reader. I'm looking forward to the multi-word search. Nice list of translations. It would be nice to have a larger selection and to be able to choose which ones to include.
it's Free By: LimEka - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 i want bible on my Ipod Touch, but i don't want to pay ...This Apps is the best Choise !! Thx
A Great Publisher By: AtTheCrosss - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 I have used Olive Tree products for years with my PDA. I am confident that the bells and whistles will be coming, Olive tree is a great publisher/software developer.
Great app By: Geuseppe - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 Works well, many options and FREE.
Please delete the FrankMelo review By: PimentoCheese.org - Aug 10, 2008 Version: 4.001.0007 To give an app one star because it doesn't have some obscure language bible is absurd. Thanks for making this free. The features you have on here are nice and quick. @ FrankMelo: If you want a different version, SUGGEST IT, don't go bashing the app.
