Really useful By: not very satisfied - 10-Aug-2010 Version: 3.3.0.6 Really useful program - particularly fun to use on an iPad. As I travel around Tokyo I'm frequently stopping to look up characters, and trace their origin. It would be nice if I could cut and paste into notes, or flash card programs - so far I don't think there is a way to do this! The drawing tool is great - and fun to use - much nicer than lugging around a big dictionary. Only drawback is that if you have trouble getting the stroke order right for a certain character you might find it hard to pick the right character. I use it in conjunction with another English/Japanese dictionary - and then a flashcard program - it would be neat if a single iPad program could cover all of these bases!
A Brilliant Application, A Superb Version!! By: marathonianbull - 5-Apr-2011 Version: 3.5.1.5 There are only a few very noteworthy Japanese / Kanji dictionaries available for the iPod or iPad in my opinion, and SHINKANJI by Benoît Cerrina certainly ranks among those favourite behemoths of mine; as a long-time fan of the app, I would even dare to assert that this smooth-running version 3.5.1.5 shows the true potential of its innovative interface at last. Apart from the obviously sturdy MULTILINGUAL database or pleasing presentation, what really draws me to boot ShinKanji often is the superb flexibility it actually offers the users towards discovering various INTERCONNECTIONS between radicals, kanji, and compounds: lost a bit at first in its peculiar logic of navigation, I soon became enthralled by the power of such linguistic networking. Speaking of flexibility, fonts for kanji can be set from huge to tiny sizes over a backdrop of any colour of the rainbow, which is pretty cool from an ERGONOMIC standpoint. Lastly, I have found it quite reassuring over the last few months that its developer is always more than willing to do anything in his power in order to fix a glitch swiftly or add some relevant functionalities when deemed necessary. Overall, a fun and useful tool!
Shows what you can do in IOS By: drword - Apr 5, 2011 Version: 3.5.1.5 This is one of my favorite apps. I have an older iPod Touch. Before ShinKanji, in order to look up a Chinese character, I had to go through a laborious process of figuring out what the radical was, then counting the strokes, then going through a fat book. Another app, Kotoba, lets me look up parts of kanji, but only Shinkanji lets me just draw it on the screen. When I'm in Japan, or trying to read Japanese, I can just draw a kanji and find its meaning, pronunciation, and the compounds in which it occurs. There were a couple of hiccups in the last few weeks where it would crash, but Benoit fixed the problem as soon as it was brought to his attention, for which I commend him. This is one of the apps I use to convince people to buy an iPod Touch or an iPhone.
A highly useable reference tool By: Round-up - 23-Oct-2010 Version: 3.4.3.0 This is a kanji reference tool - not a Japanese dictionary.I live in Japan and have intermediate level Japanese, based on good formal study of the basics. I use this app to quickly write unknown kanji with my finger and find readings and meanings. This is usually enough for me fill in gaps in my reading comprehension. For me, intuiting stroke order is not a problem, and the app interprets my scrawls very charitably. Miles better than the iOS Chinese keyboard.I do not want flash cards; I want a reference tool to complement a 和英 dictionary. This is it.(Add in a detailed offline graphology - like on kanjinetworks.com, e.g. - and I'll pay twice and give you 6 stars.)(Using iPod Touch 4G)
Straordinaria. By: Rick970 - 18-feb-2011 Version: 3.4.3.0 Un database infinito, interfaccia complessa ma intuitiva. Davvero utile. Vale 10 volte di piú il suo prezzo. Super!

Excellent By: 新鬼 - 9 avr. 2011 Version: 3.5.1.5 Très pratique pour chercher les kanji.
Back to the original, please By: Why why man - 29-Mar-2011 Version: 3.5.0.16 I think this application,Shinkanji, has been deteriorating step by step as the developer provides new versions. Ihope they shall leave the development to some professional developers. I liked earlier versions of this appli. May God be with you!
Imprescindible si estudias japonés By: Army101 - 26-Sep-2008 Version: 2.0 Herramienta perfecta para todo estudiante de kanjis y perfecta usada en combinación con la app "kanji flip". Con esta aplicación aprendes el orden de escritura y con la otra memorizas "fácilmente". Gracias desarrolladores, gracias a vosotros estoy logrando lo que me parecía imposible con los libros.
all over the place By: nomand - 02-Apr-2009 Version: 3.0.0.15 this application packs five stars worth of functionalities, but unfortunately the user interface is not designed with any thought and fails to deliver a streamlined user experience. it's hard to navigate, the information accessibility is very low.pros:kanji writing recognition superior to iphone's unbuilt one;classifications by topics, grades, radicles, stroke counts;stroke order animations;cons:confusing user interface, hard to navigate;just very badly designed interface in terms of usability and aesthetics.overal, good to have if you're a learner.

Not working suddenly! By: oyaji simon - 25-Mar-2011 Version: 3.5.0.16 Used to love this app, but suddenly it won't open. Can't recommend it until it's fixed or support is a little more responsive.
A good idea, nicely executed By: Australian Kids Doctor - 02-Oct-2008 Version: 2.0 A substantial improvement on what was a good start with Version 1, V 2.0 now has many of the features I want out of a Kanji learning program: organised by theme (animals, anatomy... I expect more will come with updates), ability to flick through cards, great stroke order instruction. Can enter an English or French word, and easily find the relevant kanji and pronunciation. The interface takes some getting used to, but the program is powerful enough to make it worth it
Excellent ! By: xfr - 7 oct. 2009 Version: 3.0.1.27 Une application très bien faite et très complète. Je m'en sers tout le temps lors de mes séjours au Japon.
Best Kanji finding App!!! By: moonbuggy - 24-Feb-2010 Version: 3.2.0.24 Shin-Kanji is the best App and value for finding out and learning Kanji. I have found it very useful alongside Kotoba, JLPT Study Apps for living in Japan. Comparing it to other apps (Japanese Flip etc ) the UI is well designed and very rich in content. Featuring predefined JTPL, Colors, Animals, lists etc, and it`s very easy to make your own.It would be great if there was a quiz feature similar to JLPT Study App in future app dates
