Onw of the better Apps
By: Stephan Ge - 14-Feb-2009
Version: 1.2
The iRedTouch-application is functioning well in my livingroom for more than four months. The tree remotes for television, dvd-recorder and amplifier are things of the past. Instead I control these devices with my iPhone in conjunction with a small transmitter (2,7 by 1,9 by 0,6 inch). You can connect the transmitter to an AirPort Express. The service of Tinbert software is friendly and to the point. This application and the transmitter are not cheap, but they offer you better control and overview.

A once great app stuck in the past
By: fizzwinkus - Jan 19, 2011
Version: 1.5.1
Update: Back when apps were new, this was an amazing program. Today, there is no support for the retina display, ipad, multitasking, or fixes for bugs reported months and months ago. It is becoming increasingly hard to support this app as the rest of the app world improves. If I were looking for an app today, I would not have picked this. Researching competitors in this area, we have RedEye for $120 ($150 in sept/oct), a crestron or other custom build for massive cash, a dedicated universal remote for 100-200, and this. I went ahead and bought this app along with the IRTrans package which i think was about $160. Total cost just under $200, so in the higher end of the spectrum. Now what you get for your cash is a fully customizable layout in a package that will work anywhere within wifi range of your theater. A huge difference for me is this custom layout. You can use any picture (and design your own if you want to with photoshop or even graph paper) to layout exactly the buttons you want, and remove all the buttons you hate. This is head and shoulders above almost all solutions out there since they are stuck with a hardware system. The closest dedicated remote is a newly launched Philips that uses a touch screen for multi-function buttons and to get rid of the keypad. It retails for $200, is still large and bulky, and completely unnecessary thanks to this iRedTouch/IRTrans combination in a package (iPod Touch) that will blow away any remote out there. If it sounds like I work for the company, it's only because right now, nothing else comes close. There are still areas that can be worked on, for instance, swiping sideways to move between remotes, connecting to the IRTrans module in the background (after app launch) so you can access your remotes faster, enabling the wake on lan command built into the IRTrans module so you can wake sleeping macs on your network... but that would just be icing on the cake.

This app is superb. I can now controll all of my AV; SkyHD, Sony LCD TV, XBox 360, PS3, Sony AV Amp... All from my iPhone. You don't even need to be in it's line if site, which is ideal for me!Yes it's not cheap, and you do need additional hardware, buy this is all stated in the info.If you are want to put all your remotes in the cupboard an leave them there, this is the app for you!I spoke to support at www.irtrans.de first to make sure it would work and they were very helpful.Best iPhone app Ive had yet, and I've had a lot. Couldn't recommend it more.

- klar, keine 0,99€ App - ZURECHT!Ganz herzlichen Dank! Macht weiter so! Mein Techniker-Logikherz schlägt dank euch wiedermal höher :)Grüße aus FreiburgDane aka Benny

Its Easy once You Know How

OK so you need an IR Trans Device, but hey once you have this its very very simple to use, anyone can set this up, you don't need to be an AMX or Crestron programmer, buy it, buy an IR trans get it on your network and be creative with your remote control gui's. Honestly I'm in the Pro AV game and although this lacks macro's at the moment and page flipping and indeed button animation you just know it will come, right now hands down this is the best IR control APP for the IPhone or I Pod Touch. If you can programme a Universal remote then you can do this, infact your mum probably can. Well worth the Money. the IR Trans is also stupidly good as an IR system.

Got the irtans ethernet module? Then this is a must! But it has serious problems on OS3.0 as it constantly kills the wifi connection and renders itself useless.

Come On Don't Be Stupid What do you want??
By: Yawnie M - Oct 30, 2009

My system: Mac mini with iTunes library on NewerTech firewire HD using Apple lossless from CD>Wavelength Audio Crimson DAC > Naim NAC 152 XS Preamp > BeoLab1. Naim preamp, IR controlled, and Mac mini are in my cellar. I don't want to go into my cellar to turn on the preamp and I want to adjust the volume while I am listening. This is expensive but works perfectly for my needs.

The mother of all remote controls
By: nexttoyou - 18-Oct-2008
Version: 1.1
In combination with an IRTrans ethernet module (mandatory!) iRedTouch is without any doubt the perfect remote control. You can use everything you like as background picture, upload it and make any area on it touch sensitive for learning and sending out any imaginable IR command (depending on the capability of your IRTrans hardware.) This software can even control Apple and B&O hardware without seeing a difference, including repeating codes from both worlds, so fast scrolling is no problem at all. I must confess that I’m already forgetting that I initially bought the iPhone for using it as a communication device. This is such a cool program and makes me wish I’d some more time to explore all of its possibilities. I’ve three IR modules in our apartment controlling A/V and light switching equipment from four brands. Unfortunately the IRTrans modules are quite expensive, but besides this I cannot see any real disadvantage.

A great app. Does require the irtrans hardware module that isn't cheap, but overall the package is still better value than the harmony multi remote equivalent. Great to have a real picture of the remote on the iPod. Not aimed at the complete av beginner, but if you have some basic av and network knowledge then it is very good.
