like most iphone apps, it is slow to launch but once opened it is great.
By: SaiSuke fan - Feb 4, 2009
Version: 1.0.10
it's still the iphone so it's sluggish compared to the palm, but once you (finally: often 6 seconds or more) get the app opened it is great. i was able to add the davis drug guide and it's complete (unlike the weak version for blackberry) and has a nice interface. i'm just using it for fun so it's fine. if i had to use this for serious work then the slow to respond nature of this app would drive me crazy. not sure how much of that is skyscape's fault vs apple since ALL my apps have at least a 3 second delay.

Davis Drug Guide

This was the only reason I bought the iPhone in the first place, to replace both phone and PDA, bt app dose not work in the hospital I work at. Skyscape says ths is a known issue and are working on it. In the mean time it's worthless and I should have gotten the free phone.

Terrible App!!!!
By: gtjackets09 - Feb 1, 2009

This app is absolutely horrible. It freezes every time I try to update it or download resources; regardless whether I am on EDGE or 3G or wifi. This was a waste of my time. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP!!

Dedication to patients and medical professionals yields excellent apps
By: HarvardDoc - Jan 29, 2009

I've been using Skyscape products since the mid-90's.  Aside from being technically fantastic, I am especially happy that I can rely on this company to always have up-to-date material for my  use.  As a medical professional (I'm an internist), I'm amazed at just how fast the literature changes.  Keeping up w/ this is half the battle.  Knowing that Skyscape always has the latest, most up-to-date information is extremely important to me and my practice.  I've found over the years that Skyscape offers a wide range of medical information, tools, guidelines and alerts under one streamlined, intuitive package. In fact, if you have more than one Skyscape app, they all work together with a cross-index scheme. This makes the combination more valuable than the sum of the individual parts.  I have never had any issue with spending a few extra dollars on quality content.  While there are applications on the iTunes store that usually go for $0.99-9.99, they create a collection of unrelated tools on my device.  Also, I am always wary about free or inexpensive content which might be subtly biased due to sponsorships.  In my experience, Skyscape has more content from respected authors, editors, societies and publishers than any other company in this space.  To kick the tires, get their free products like rxdrugs, Outlines in Clinical Medicine or Archimedes and judge for yourself.  If you like what you see, you may go for other paid products, as I have been doing for many years now. At the end of the day, my patients are better off with the information from trusted sources - information that I trust.  I know that because I'm getting relatively instant information from a quality source that I'm practicing better medicine.  Kudos to Sksycape for maintaining their medical professionalism and providing me with an excellent assortment of titles to use in my practice. Oh, and by the way, the apps work amazingly well on the iPhone/Touch platform.

I have used skyscape for years and found the program indespensable-on a palm. On the iPhone I cannot ADD information to a topic and the programs respond slower.

Very Pleased

This app is very helpful. I bought the Davis Drug Guide and I love it! I'm a nursing student and this app is a lifesaver - literally.

TOTAL RIPOFF!!!
By: PocketPC convert - Jan 23, 2009
Version: 1.0.10
The iPhone subscription policy is insulting in it's blatant attempt to make money. Books that are NOT having annual revisions in hard copy (for e.g. DSM-IV) cannot be transferred over from the original palm purchase, and then a required annual subscription every year without which the original purchase is locked!!! HIGHWAY ROBBERY! How about as a user I get to choose if I'm going to keep using a perfectly OK older version? Skyscape does not realize it is alienating a core subscriber group. For new users I would not even purchase anything until skyscape changes this tactic.

Loving the program as a 4th year med student! Recommended for all students in the health professions!

the subscription is really annoying
By: another med student - Jan 20, 2009
Version: 1.0.10
The free portion of this app is pretty good, but the really good stuff you'll have to pay for. I (reluctantly) purchased the $106/year clinical constellation package from skyscape. I have given the programs a test-drive and I really like it. The 5MCC is definitely worth paying for. I would give it 5 stars except like everyone else, I'm annoyed that I have to purchase a 1-year subscription rather than just purchasing the reference materials to own. On every other platform (Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Palm, Symbian) you purchase the program, not a subscription. The most irritating thing is that the 1-year subscription is not discounted very much beyond the purchase price for the other platforms, so if I want it for 2 years, I'll be paying almost double. This makes no sense to me, and I hope that skyscape changes it ASAP. I'm knocking 2 stars off for the subscription making this a bit of a rip-off.

Total ripoff
By: Riderdoc - Jan 20, 2009
Version: 1.0.10
Annual subscription for iPhone users is a complete and shameless ripoff. I used to have a 2006 version of 5MCC on my Treo 650 and was using it until recently before I moved to iPhone. No mandatory upgrading to '07-'08-'09 versions, no annual fees- and still 99.9% current. Now they will LOCK your 5MCC that you purchased in exactly 1 year- whether you want to use it without upgrading or not. $60/year for minor updates for ONE program? How about if you purchased 3 or 4? Thank you, but no, thank you. I'd like to be able to actually OWN what I have purchased and downloaded onto my iPhone.

Poor Pricing
By: SCHMEGGA - Jan 17, 2009
Version: 1.0.10
I have to jump in with the others. I do Anesthesia and have in the past had to repurchase through Skyscape all of my apps for a seperate device. This could be a perfect medical application for the iPhone if all content would be made off-line available and pricing remained as a 1 time purchase. Until these 2 criteria are met, this is basically an unusable program for me.

Easy install, great application, even better portfolio of products
By: nancy wong - Jan 12, 2009
Version: 1.0.8
Got a new iphone as a present. Just love it - especialy the touch interface. A friend emailed skyscape's promo mail. I went through itunes store and I downloaded it - took a little less than 10 seconds to download the app. Download of the content was also less than 2 minutes. Very impressive that it included full drug information, clinical texbook and calculator tool. I was amazed how smooth the entire experience was. Initial impression is very positive. I had previously played with a windows mobile phone (HTC, I think) but could not stand the basic phone features so never got around to doing anything clinical on it. Apple has got their act right. And skyscape perfected it for physicians like me. Jan 11/09After nearly 3 months of use, I am happy to say that I am "very satisfied" user. As I bought few more products directly from my app, I have to say that some of the negative comments don't make any sense to me (they are talking about not having 5MCC- I have been using it and it has really served well with a couple of pts). Medalert is also great.

Keep the Palm Pilot
By: dajhorn - Jan 11, 2009
Version: 1.0.10
This package is more expensive than the Palm Pilot version, with the additional defect that the program expires.

Subscription Plan = Fail
By: Canisreevus - Jan 7, 2009
Version: 1.0.10
The subscription plans are way overpriced. You must pay nearly full price each year for the programs. In addition to this, there is no way to currently demo the programs.

Finally!
By: apakhlev - Dec 29, 2008
Version: 1.0.10
Pros: it's on iPhone; you can get rid of your Palm pilot; functions flawlessly with beautiful interface and a menu screen; you don't need Sync manager or any other cluttering programs to get updates from Skyscape; no more annoying MdAlerts (unless you're into it) you go to a STAT tab to see them.Cons: You need to purchase all your Palm programs for iPhone and most are more expensive on iPhone than on Palm; most programs expire in one year and you can't run them unless you update again, compared to apps on Palm that you can run even after their annual subscription expires; you still need to go on skyscape.com on your computer to purchase new programs and punch the very long serial number in your iPhone to activate it.

Not as reliable as my windows mobile version was
By: EvilJRN - Dec 28, 2008
Version: 1.0.10
I have owned many different Windows Mobile devices and run Skyscape software flawlessly. I installed this app on my iPhone, paid over $100 for the software I use, and now, with almost a year left on my license when I went to update my apps.... it tells me that they are registered to a different platform and that I cannot transfer the registration anymore. This is frustrating and disappointing. I have always trusted Skyscape as a mobile assistant... Now I am app-less after paying a good chunk of change to get them....

Fixing Download Problems to iPod Touch
By: JjanetPplanet - Dec 28, 2008
Version: 1.0.10
Like some of you, I had downloaded the Skyscape Reader to my iPod Touch, but found I was unable to install the free resources to it listed in the Ap. Store. Whenever I would try to, an error message inevitably resulted, saying "The Skyscape Server was unable to be contacted", and to check my internet connection. My internet was fine, and no matter what time of day I tried, the same error resulted. After several tries to the Skycape tech support dept., I finally reached someone who was helpful. The steps to correct this problem are as follows:1. Delete the Skyscape icon off your iPod Touch by holding your finger on it til all the icons start wiggling, then touching the X in the corner of the Skyscape icon.2. Go to the Skyscape website on your Mac and create an account, if you haven't already.3. Open iTunes on your Mac (if you're on a windows machine then I don't know - but I feel for you - ha!) Go to the Ap. Store in iTunes, search for Skyscape, and download the Reader to iTunes.4. Sync your iPod with iTunes5. Open the Skyscape Reader on your iPod. The free resources should now download to it without problems.Merry Christmas!

Great Resource For Nursing Students
By: jannalouise - Dec 20, 2008
Version: 1.0.10
When I first started clinical I seriously felt as though I needed to bring everybook I own with me. Now all I grab is my cell phone. Skysape is an amazing resource for when I need information in the clinical setting fast. For example, I used to carry my bulky drug book with me and would fret when I came in and found I had a new patient with a ton of drugs I didn't know. I now am never running behind, at least not because of that anyway :) because it takes only a few minutes to look up my new meds, look over any procedures I am not familar with, and review my labs. I bought one of the larger nursing constellation packages which included a drug reference, medical calculator, a disease reference, a lab reference, and RN notes. All of which I use heavily. I also bought a more comprehensive nursing procedures application. All of this was pretty pricyas you can imagine. It was well over $150 for it all and here is why I gave only four stars... It's only a one year subscription!! Yeah, I know many people say that's a deal breaker, but as a student I am hoping I wont need the resources as much in a year. If I do I will either switch devices or will find a provider other than skyscape, because let's face it nursing is a great career choice, but I don't think i'll be made of money by then. On a final note, I wish some more applications were available for the iPhone or the ones they have would be more interactive. For instance the the nursing procedure app I have was advertised to have hundreds of pictures and graphs and whatnot, but I haven't seen one yet. Although I'm glad I made the purchase as a student, I feel that skyscape has been really letting IPhone users down in comparison to other device users.
