Great start, has a lot of potential

As a former Palm user, I've lamented the shortcomings of the iPhone Contact app. It's good, but not great. Apple's refusal to allow synchronization with the desktop made me thing something better could not be built. This app isn't a power-PIM-user's pipe dream, but it definitely shows that improvements on the built-in Contact app are possible.
The added categorizations, search, and birthday reminders are welcome additions. However, there are a few quirks that actually make it worse than the Contact app.
First, the biggest drawback is that only the mobile number is displayed and given as an option to call. This is a serious shortcoming that really needs to be addressed before this app can fully replace the built-in Contacts app.
Second, what one reviewer already said: putting the mobile phone number and email address on the same line is a good way to conserve real estate, but it's not as useful if you can't just tap the phone number or email address and go straight to calling/emailing from there. Enable that to save one more tap, and that would be much better. Also, my company uses full names for email addresses, so pretty much every address gets cut off for me. I'd like to see a configurable option to separate these out onto their own lines, and maybe include home/work numbers as well.
Third, I would like to see the built-in contact groups utilized better. I would prefer to see the Contacts tab behave more like the original app -- the "top" level is a list of existing Contact Groups plus one for "All Contacts". The app right now only shows All Contacts, all the time. (You have to click on "More, Groups" to view only by contact group.)
And some minor enhancements would be nice. When you first click on Search, the page is prepopulated with results, but I have no idea where these results are coming from, or how they are being ordered. I would display nothing here if no search is active -- it's less confusing. Inclusion of IM fields would be very useful, although this may not be possible given there's no built-in IM client, and I'm not even sure whether you can invoke one even if you did have it installed (e.g.: can the AIM app for iPhone register an aim:// protocol invoked from another app?)
If you're tracking birthdays with reminders, why not Anniversaries, too? Husbands around the world would surely offer tremendous praise for the heads up.
Lastly, you mentioned the ability to add/remove groups is coming. If by that you mean groups in the actual Contacts database, this would be a BIG improvement over the existing contact app, where you can currently only control groups from the sync point (a royal pain).
The biggest enhancement would be to allow for additional fields that sync back to the contact source on the desktop or web service, but that's where the SDK falls short, and I have yet to find anyone come up with a really good solution for that.
Still, this app definitely has some advantages over the Contact app, and with a bit more work, you could easily use it as a replacement.

Love this, it's a great improvement on the basic contacts app that comes with the iPhone. I love the layout and colour schemes. Two minor improvements which could be implemented would be:
1. The ability to copy contact details so that they can be pasted into a messaging app. At the moment you have to go into edit mode just to copy a phone number.
2. In the ringtones section of contact details it only shows basic tones, custom ones are missing. My default ringtone is a custom one but in this it shows as Marimba.
Apart from these minor bugbears this is well worth 59p. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
Update:
Just heard back from the developer, extremely quick reply as well. Point 2 is a restriction limited by Apple and he is going to look into Point 1.

Tried new app & loved it !!! It's way better than the default contact . Everything is in one place . It's nice how you can group friends , business, & family in thier area . Makes making calls so much easier. The birthday reminder is awesome . I almost missed my coworkers special day , but thanks to this new app I didn't . Wow ! Really impressed !!
