Spectacular VoIP solution By: TeenStormDotCom - Dec 31, 2008 Version: 1.0.2.4 Allowed me to enable my iPOD Touch 2G w/VoIP capability very easily once I hacked the SIP credentials off my VoIP solution. Wish there was some way to have program active in background as you did other things on the iPOD. Once you leave Fring you can't accept or make calls. It deserves 5 stars if you could SIP call from the default address book but alas it's backwards...you can do it from Fring not the default address book. I'm willing to live w/that for now.
Fring By: perthtones - 18-Oct-2008 Version: 1.0.1.5 Thanks for the best app yet. I use Skype for a lot of my work and for family & friends - now it's all in the iPhone. I lost the Optus service to my iPhone for 2 days recently but Fring kept me in the loop with my skype in & out numbers. Great to see the update with improved audio - thanks for some really really good work - I'd like to do an interview with someone from Fring for radio & the web - please Skype perthtones when you have time.
Love the email push notification idea! By: chaplinspender - 29-Apr-2009 Version: 1.1.0.7 Very nice app. Saw the update on this and was looking for a replacement for the clunky Truphone app. The Fring IM is better than the Truphone one, although perhaps not quite as good as Skype or Palringo (both of which are great). But I really like the email push notification Always-On idea - this is really clever and works well (only in UK, US and Israel I think at teh moment though). Good bit of lateral thinking to get around the one application running at a time problem that the iPhone has because of its security systems. Keep up the good work guys.
Has push notification, this app is AWESOME! By: him_rx8 - Aug 1, 2009 Version: 1.2.0.8 This is the first app I've ever reviewed. I'm doing it because I think it's AWESOME! I read some other reviews saying bad things about this app, but I went ahead and tried it anyways. It works great! Don't know why people are complaining. I have Google Chat and MSN Messenger working. Haven't tested out anything else yet. The push notification is AWESOME! The notification arrives in under 30 seconds. This app keeps me logged on, so my friends can send me the message. Best thing about this app is that it's FREE! Unlike some other apps that charge $9.99?? Wow. I'm telling all my friends about how wonderful Fring is.
Good Application but still needs a little work By: sbrit - 9-Nov-2008 Version: 1.0.1.5 I am giving it five stars because: Advantages: * This application is free * Robust -- hasn't crashed in my two weeks of usage * Can make free calls to landlines anywhere in the U.S. and Canada if you have Skype credit or North American unlimited * Setup your contacts with a regular number on your computer and see it as a buddy on Fring to make calls Disadvantages: * Call quality is not the greatest * Doesn't refresh your buddy list, so you never see who has just come online * Shows your iphone contacts with your skype contacts which makes it confusing if you have them setup in both places under the same name..... they should be distinguished by colour.
Good and it's free By: Angelkissingdevil - 24-Mar-2009 Version: 1.1.0.7 Well I am really happy with this application as it's turned my itouch into a mini mobile. As long as I'm within a wifi area I can keep in touch with all my online friends be-it via skype or other apps.
I love it that you can send text messages as if you were either sending them an SMS or an IM and I don't have to be tied to my pc.
Only thing is I wish I could access facebook via it too rather than having to have facebook as a different application but that's my only problem with it.
Don't compare to others By: Raisen313 - Dec 9, 2009 Version: 3.0.0.4 For those who compare fring to other apps such as palringo, ebuddy, beejive, etc please don't ! Do they offer real time audio support??? Fring is far away to be the best IM client for iphone but at least it offers one of the best feature missing in the others. Yes we can compare it to nimbuzz. I think nimbuzz is superior to fring in terms of features but 30 minutes maximum time for push notifications against 6-8 hours in fring, come on!
Best free app to date! By: Arjun Raj - 07-Oct-2008 Version: 1.0.1.4 This is an amazing app! I am an international student. When I am lazy to switch on my computer and skype my friends & family back home, I just call them from my mobile and thus huge phone bills. Not anymore. Skype and Gtalk voip calls are a bit crackly but definitely audible over wifi (Havent tried the 3G with this yet). I really like the editable Menu options, like ipod app. No downsides at all. Great job guys! And why is this app free again??? lol
Best app on my iPhone By: Vorlon69 - 09-Oct-2008 Version: 1.0.1.4 Absolutely brilliant!
Just what I have been waiting for & exactly what I needed.
Skype, Yahoo!, GoogleTalk, SIP & AIM all in 1. Plus it supports other messaging protocols.
Only downside, can't figure out how to send file through Skype or integrate Orkut into it. Instructions on website not helpful either. Would also be good if could join iChat chatrooms.
A MUST download app for all iPhone users!!!
Skype, SIP and more By: -avon- - 06-Oct-2008 Version: 1.0.1.4 This app has two features that I needed and wasn't able to find in other apps: Skype client (for chats) and SIP client (for VoIP calls). The SIP client allows you to use any VoIP provider. That's great for me as I don't use Skype for VoIP calls, I use a different VoIP provider with cheaper call rates. This app works great and will definitely become one of my most used apps. Two suggestions for further improvement: 1. Add speakerphone support for the VoIP calls. 2. In the contacts list, have some means to quickly go to a first letter, similar to the normal Contacts list on iPhone.

Too good to be true By: ivanchu23 - Dec 8, 2009 Version: 3.0.0.4 It's really a wonderful app regarding social networking, it can bundle all your IMs. However, there are some subtle flaws that occur occassionally. Furst of all, the login process is lack of visibility, I usually don't know if I had been logged in or not. Second, the dialer panel, the country code is empty, and once I clicked it, there is a +(null) appeared, then I couldn't call anyone. Apart from that, this is the most incredible app I've seen.
Great! By: leveled - Oct 19, 2008 Version: 1.0.1.5 I am surprised this is free. It works wonderfully! I mainly use this to make skypeout calls from my iPod touch 2nd gen and it is so clear. The only problem I have is that if my music starts playing in the middle of a call I can't get back to the call even though it stays connected- so if possible, add remote capabilities since my mic has a button on it that works as a remote.
***For those having trouble with calls getting disconnected immediately, try using 001 instead of just 1 (for USA calls) in front of the number. That is the only way it works for me.
Needs work but its awsome By: Hdhdhdbdjfjjskdjchxh - Dec 20, 2008 Version: 1.0.2.4 Zomg i have free calling recieveing and outgoing on my ipod touch 1g cant wait for my external mic. Ok so a few things to update: make it so fring stays connected to the internet and alerts when u r playing a game or using an app that way u dnt have to stay in the application to recieve calls. If u cant do that cuz of apples restrictions then at least make it like the mail app. Like u know when u recieve mail a bubble pops up next to the icon saying how much mail u just recieved, make it so when soneone calls it makes noise and has a bubble saying call next to the app.
HELLO VO IPhone!! The best SIP app for Iphone. Needs Update By: Ampmaestro - Dec 20, 2008 Version: 1.0.2.4 I love this app and when configured right you will love too. If you are not aware of SIP technology you should read up it will make it easier to solve some issues others are posting about here. Some people wrote that your number does not show up, the dialing procedure, etc... I have been using SIP for some time now with my MagicJack and Skype that I , myself did not know that Skype and Most VOIP companies are and have phased into SIP technology. I do have the fring account to show my number and have figured out why the sound quality may be poor at times. Poor audio may be caused by a weak WI-FI signal, another app running in the background, incoming messages from other accounts you can have on fring or a call coming into you ATT acct. Bugs that need to be addressed: not able to check Voicemail the Keys do not function while on call, No bluetooth, No call Waiting, Noises that makes you FRINGE when you are on phone and you get an IM, Better grouping for contacts, ability to run in background without killing your battery due to WIFI use, a ringtone selection, having to press dial in 4-5 different screens to dial out. After all that great app if you have an SIP provider. Know you can recieve calls on the Iphone as well. Hope they fix bugs then this will have a home in my Iphone. If not some other company will even if i have to pay for it!!
I think this is an awesome app By: fussner6 - Dec 19, 2008 Version: 1.0.2.4 Hey guys I think this is an awesome app and I would reccomend it to anyone if you want to call people first register with voip buster and the when that's done log in on fring the to connect you have to put in 001 then the area code 123 then the phone number 4567890 so it will look like this 0011234567890 and the hit the sip button , but I you are on the iPhone then you can hit cellular thanks I hope you enjoy tho app cuz I LOVE IT!!!!!!! Alot
Great APP Long awaited By: straighttalk84 - Oct 17, 2008 Version: 1.0.1.5 If you've been waiting for skype on your iphone without workarounds or special methods of getting a connection: Fring is the app you have been waiting for. Only issue I've encountered is actually a Skype one in the sense that it sends a fresh copy of all messages had in a previous chat conversation on another computer, to your phone. That can result in an almost endless stream of vibration and connection issues as teh phone tries to download hundreds of messages. It would be nice if vibrate could be toggled on and off in fring, or the message preferences could be changed. Otherwise, this app is an absolute MUST HAVE!
why not on 3G.?>? By: nkajal - 30-Aug-2009 Version: 1.2.0.8 hi i am using skype from the last 3 years now.... and fring for 1.5 years... My question is why i cant use fring through 3G.. whats the purpose of buying skype and data plan on iphone if it only works on Wifi... come on do something... i recommend... IM+ skype.... this is much better software guys... u can get free calls through skype. Although you have to pay in the beginning but its worth.. way better than fring... Thanks a lot Nav
Very Cool App For Free By: djnicksilva - Feb 8, 2009 Version: 1.0.2.4 As far as an app, it is actually a four star app. There is no tie into voicemail, no diferential as to wot contacts are AIM, Yahoo, MSN, etc. Other little things are missing I am sure, but these were the most noticeable. However, the app is great for the concept and the fact that you can tap into Skype for VoIP calls is amazing!!!
I was in a hospital for my fiancée because she was getting surgery. In the recovery section post surgery, there was no at&t signal, but there was tons of Wi-Fi! So, I loaded up Fring and we were able to let her family and friends speak to her while she was recovering! Really cool!!! I love the fact that it came into working at a clinch time. That's why it deserved the 5th star!!! For offering the service of VoIP in an app for free is the extra push it needed!!!
Good job!
Nice By: Ivo1 - 8-Oct-2008 Version: 1.0.1.4 Would ppl, please, stop whining about having to dial "+country code" in front of the number? This is how it should be, anything less would be useless. Crawl out of your holes, you got a mobile, learn to use it properly.
Finally an application that supports SIP, too bad that Apple doesn't allow using it over 3G, but for stores outside the US it should be allowed.
Voice quality is not the best but at par with Truphone. SIP and Skype Out, both work without a problem.
For ppl complaining about Skype Out dialing, you need to have your number in International format in your iPhone phonebook, e.g. +1 area code number etc. Just 'cause you never get out of North America, it doesn't mean that it is Fring's fault. This formatting of numbers, +country code, is the std that any network uses. Yes, even Rogers and Fido use it.
DYNOMITE By: WilliamsFamily - Oct 16, 2008 Version: 1.0.1.5 I just bought $10 worth of credit from Skype, and inputted my info into Fring. Dialed my wife and child in the Philippines, and it worked perfectly. I used to use yahoo, but was confined to my computer, now I can call them WHEREVER I may roam as long as I have a wifi signal. Works as advertised. my only complaint is that it imports my contact from my iphone into fring and does not allow me to delete. if anyone knows how to delete these contact, please inform me
