In this start-up phase of the game, it's great to be able to create spots and collect pins and items. Becoming the founder of a spot makes you manage your items and make a decision on "vault"ing the item (collection) or swapping/dropping the item. GREAT virtual geocaching type of fame. AND, the trips (multiple spots) just add to it. The developers are very responsive to suggestions/fixes and they continue to improve the app/game. Great, great fun!

I downloaded this app and started playing around with it right away. What great fun. I like that you can add points of interest. I like that you have to actually BE at a spot to check in. I like the 'drop and item to pick up an item'. Really an entertaining way to get to know an unfamiliar City. Things I'd like to see added are the ability to take photos of a location and have them linked to the spot and maybe more choices for categories of new locations. Addicting and fun. Download this app!

What an unbelievable app! I started using Gowalla when it was brand new, with the new updates to the application in addition to the super cool integrated webpage you may find it hard to put down! I have lived in my city for 5 years and with Gowalla I have found some of the best restaurants, historical points of interest and much much more! Thank you for the ridiculously feature-packed upgrade and...GOWALLA!

The iPhone was made for Gowalla...or is it the other way around? This is a fantastic...game...activity...geocache.... I'm kinda speechless as to what to call it. I just know it is fun! I enjoy making new spots and "checking in" at other spots, especially when visiting a new city. A lot of thought has gone into this program and the update made it even better (although personally I liked the old logo, but that's just me!) Highly recommended!

The new version is really nice, very well polished and some of the icons for specific places are incredibly beautiful. It's worth noting that Gowalla is location based but unlike Loopt or Forsquare. Rather than a focus on sharing your location, t's targeted toward getting various achievements and keeping a list of places where you've been. The new version includes more support for friends and little blurbs when you check in, but it's a pretty different concept.

This is essentially just an app for letting your friends know where you are via GPS, but is soo much better than foursquare! With cute 'stamps' for your electronic passport, award 'pins' for achievements, and gorgeous 'items' for checking in at your favourite spots, plus it works anywhere you can get signal... You can make your own spots, drop items to show your appreciation of cool locations, and send messages to facebook or twitter about what you're up to! Not only beautiful, but the most fun I've had in ages... Good for discovering interesting places you didn't know were nearby.

Fantastic app, one of the few I actually use!

Gowalla is a location based game, sort of like a virtual geocaching game I guess, you look for locations or "spots" that are near you and when you get withing range of them you can "check-in" at the spot and record that you've been there, look at the items in the spot and trade them for your own, there's even a chance you might find a completely new item that you can take and add to your collection for free! Topped off by a fantastic design, this game has it all, I look forward to any future upgrades. I'm off to create some spots! :)

Better than Foursquare. Nice fb integration.

I travel a lot due to my job and lifestyle and must say that this is the best geo-social gaming app out. It is better than others because of it's "game play" style, top notch iconography, and they way inwhich it gives context to location. I use it to update facebook and Twitter with not only what I'm doing, but where I'm at. It's fun to compete with friends for things like most pins earned, or just see where people you know have been and unique places you share in common. I use it all the time to find cool places to eat, drink and hangout while traveling.Gowalla is more fun when you have friends who are on it and can compete for items and pins, so invite your iPhone friends to try it out. It's not perfect and it's still relatively new, but I would recommend it for any iPhone user that travels. It makes things like sitting in an airport or exploring a new city far more interesting.

Certainly leading the way in mobile social location awareness apps, Gowalla combines geocaching with location awareness to create a great looking app which uses your phones GPS to check you in to user created and managed places. Far exceeding the capabilities of such competitors as Four Sqaure. This app truely puts the fun in location check ins. And is sure to lead the way in this new emerging social media field. If you have to choose one, nothing is better than Gowalla.

... er, home screen? Gowalla is one of the apps I use all the time on a daily basis ever since I discovered it. It's prominently featured on my home screen. I had been using Brightkite for a year, checking-in everywhere I went, but Gowalla is now my app of choice.
The eye candy is great: nice, bright design; fun, collectible items; great Featured Spot badges.
I really like how the content (spots) is driven by users. Anyone can go out and Gowalla! Not everyone plays the same, but it's sure to be a fun experience for all!

Gowalla has the best user interface and experience of any location based app that I've tried. If you have tried other apps then you know what a pain adding spots can be. Gowalla makes adding locations easy because it's GPS based (no more finding addresses to enter).
Gowalla's support team is awesome and they have a great community of passionate users. I would highly recommend using this service!

This really is a great game/discoverer app/social networking app. It's a bit like FourSqaure, but with a gorgeous UI and the abiity to play it anywhere!
The new update has added the much needed facility to vault an item, as well as spot and item history. It's also far more stable now and I haven't experienced one crash yet, despite some rapid-fire checking in!
With over 300,000 spots worldwide to stamp your virtual passport with, there's really no reason for not downloading this free app!
(and for the user asking how to view items in their vault - go to the website and you'll be able to view all check-ins, items, etc.)

This app, often described as virtual geocaching or virtual treasure hunting had me from the get-go. I get to mark spots that I love to go to and give others the opportunity to see things they might not have seen before. And vice versa, which is perhaps even better! The 1.2 update makes this even easier with being able to see the spots on a map! The devs ate always working on improvements, too, so I forsee it just getting better!

*New update - even more reason to download! UK now has it's own trip and featured icons!* Okay, the basic idea is to create 'spots' at both everyday and interesting places, visit spots created by others - and pick up cool things (a sort of virtual geocaching). You end up hunting out some really great places that you didn't know about - so it's educational too ;-). Trips are being created to reward visiting linked spots as well. Give it a go. It's free, really easy -and the more people give it a go and create/visit spots, the better it'll get!!
