Reviews:
Great app, some bugs that need to be fixed. By: proudpom - Oct 23, 2009 Version: 1.01 Ping! is well worth the 99 cents if you have friends with iPhones. It works basically the same ad texting except you don't use phone numbers, you use the Ping! ID that the person chooses when launching the app for the first time. I'm definitely saving a lot in text messaging charges. I have noticed a few minor bugs, such as my message appearing blank in a conversation even though it was received by the other person just fine. Also, when typing, the text "flickers" a lot which is a bit annoying. Not a big deal but should be fixed for future updates. Also the time stamp for all my messages is seemingly random; for example I'll type something at 10:45pm and send it and it will be timestamped as 7:12am. Very weird. The push notification works great and in my experience the messages actually show up faster than MMS.The developer really needs to fix the bugs FAST if they're going to justify the 99 cent cost. I was lucky enough to get it during the initial period it was offered for free but I'd be a little unhappy paying for something with obvious bugs.
Fantastic By: Mpc1rocks - 13-Oct-2009 Version: 1.01 Free worldwide texting, for $1.20aud? I don't know how you could possibly complain, this app is fantastic, I use it everyday, 100+ texts a day, works a charm. It's true that it does kill you battery, but it's well worth it. I would like an 'are you sure?' notification to pop up when you press clear though, I have deleted multiple conversations because of that, and sometimes there is a 10-20 minute delay on recieving the occasional message, but apart from these minor downsides this app is brilliant.
Very nice app!! By: lilymac - Oct 10, 2009 Version: 1.0 Thanks to developer for coming up with this app. It really is like a blackberry messenger but for iPhone. I can now talk to my sister overseas, no need fir IM app anymore. With ping you are always on, always available.I noticed some portratrait to landscape to portrait issues, so I always type in portrait for now. But I'm sure the developer will address any issues over time and we will have a perfect messaging app. It is pretty great already. Thanks for making it available and keep up the great work!!!
EXACTLY WHAT I NEED!!!!!! By: Terps519 - 19-Oct-2009 Version: 1.01 This app is awesome. Exactly what I need. My iphone works like a blackberry now. I downloaded the app and tried to text gary.fung himself, took a while before he replies, yet, he did (time zone difference reasons perhaps). All I have to do now is to inform my friends from other countries to download the app as well, and enjoy FREE SMS worldwide just like BBM. Downside, you still need WIFI or 3G connections. Nevertheless, GOOD WORK and 5*****STARS for gary.fung.
Fantastic app By: raiden337 - 12-Oct-2009 Version: 1.0 First up, to those complaining about the price! Ping had a limited special offer noted st the top of the page, they did the right thing snd offered their work 4 free just to get known, now we hsve a price of like $1 for an awesome application! Buy it!My whole household now use this app and my friends are joining fast! I highly recommend it, I havnt had any issues however if you do then use the report button at the bottom. That's what it's for after all! Read the FAQ it will give an explination regarding Missing Pings. I'm hanging out for an update tho
People need to learn to write a review By: cmaddeaux - 21-Oct-2009 Version: 1.01 If you're going to write a review, read the description of the product. The product doesn't claim to be able to work for or between anything except iPhones / iPod touch. If your service isn't working, or isn't working correctly, ask yourself, is your iPhone or iPod touch jailbroken? If so, then the product isn't likely to work correctly for you unless you use pushfix or some variant. Personally I find the product quite nice, I haven't had the chance to use it a whole lot as I only know a few people with iPhones but so far I haven't had any failed / missed messages.
By far the best! By: Søren Kiersted - 23-Oct-2009 Version: 1.01 This is by far, hands down the best iPhone to iPhone app out there. We switched from blackberry last year and we finally have a BBmessenger replacement. Running an international business is not easy, and having staff in the UK, Canada and the US makes it even more costly to be in constant contact. We were always sending countless emails or costly text messages that were slow and had a poor interface. Now with the clean dark style of ping! Everyone is connected. I'm happy this dosent look identical to the iPhone interface! Finally someone who clearly has a sense of design and style. $0.99 in just the past 2 weeks alone has saved us over $25.
Great for itouch By: Nexvick - Oct 21, 2009 Version: 1.01 My wife and I both have an itouch and this is handy to have. My wife could be in the other room send a message if she needs something or to tell me dinner is ready. Don't use it much for messaging when away since we both have cell phones. I'm sure iphone users would do that more. I got this app when it was free, but I would have paid the $0.99. Not a lot to ask for this app. There is only one problem with itouch, but it's a firmware issue rather than an app issue. If we know we are going to use it, we have to set sleep to 'never' (since the iPod touch disconnects from wifi upon sleep unless it's plugged in).
. Way up!! By: yaesumofo - Oct 17, 2009 Version: 1.01 This app rocks. If you used to have a blackberry like I did then you will understand immeaditly the utility of this app which is just like the blackberry messenger. It is unit to unit texting at it's best. You can create groups with ease. This is a great app especially at the price. If you are on a texting plan other than the unlimited then this is the app for you if you plan on texting.Git it.YMF
Great App, Works perfectly EVEN IN JAILBROKEN devices.... By: fi2-shift - Nov 9, 2009 Version: 1.01 The app is great, i can send and receive messages, for ppl saying this just get stuck in "connecting" it's cause you are using a jailbroken iDevice, you need a fix for it to work, cause JB devices don't support push notifications, that's why the app won't pass the "connecting please wait"... How to fix? google it, is easy and will also fix your push notification so all your other apps like BeejiveIM will now work with push... try it.. Sorry i can't tell how i did it here :( Find it useful?? ping! me! my Ping is fi2shift

Great App. By: Buzzafett - 05-Dec-2009 Version: 1.2 When it works it is excellent with instant badge notifications.Major bugs should have been ironed out in Beta, not after release though. No timestamp on incoming messages just shows --:-- and the date shows 01/01/70. Why do we have to pay again for picture messaging? The addition of read receipts would be a great feature to be assured that your messages are getting through, such as a tick in the speech bubble.
can be improved By: dw 'bout it - Oct 15, 2009 Version: 1.01 in order for this app/messenger to be successful is it needs to be almost identical to BBM and its functions and capabilities. people love the simplicity of BBM. definitely should be FREE and needs a contact list. a little marketing advice: The success of this app depends on how fast the creator can fix the bugs and if its free it will be much more popular. if Ping is ≥ BBM then life is good. and Ping users if you like the concept rate it higher so more people will buy it --> the app. improves
The Messaging Solution you've been looking for By: Shamrocker85 - Nov 27, 2009 Version: 1.01 "Ping!" blows any other messaging app out of the water. This is a five star app easy, especially at this price point with no monthly fees. Most so called "Free Text Messaging" apps are confusing for the people receiving them because they come in as some random number, not to mention they charge you monthly fees if you send anywhere near a normal amount of texts per month. This is by far the simplest way to message all of your friends with an iPhone; using User ID's. My wife and I have got most of our coworkers using Ping now, and we've been able to save $20/month on our TXT service. Needless to say the killer feature is Push notifications. With push enabled, you know the instant someone is messaging you, and with the 1.2 update, Ping! just got even better. The address book was the last thing this app needed to be king of the heap. The truth is that this really has become my most used messaging app.
Nearly flawless By: chweed - Sep 28, 2009 Version: 1.0 Ping! is simple, but provides to many iPhone users the ability to communicate with one another without worry about being offline (beejive, IM+, etc) or needing a data connection (SMS) because wifi works. The app just works, and it works wonderfully. The interface is user-friendly, and everything performs smoothly and quickly. There was an issue where I would get duplicate messages when I would get push notifications; however, that issue has been resolved server side, I believe. Being able to customize the interface in terms of themes would be nice in the future. I was able to get this app while it was free. I wish I could have paid for it to help the developers support this wonderful app. Thank you for this wonderful addition to the app store.
Good update, Never Crashed By: Elitegamer360 - 20-Oct-2009 Version: 1.01 Works very well, latest update has the unregister ID... Did not try itDO NOT KNOW WHAT PEOPLE IS MOANING AT, THIS APP NEVER CRASHED ON ME... WHAT ARE THEY DOINGTYING TO RUN THE APP ON BLACKBERRYAny ways for next update looking forward for friends address book. Also I would like to request different push sounds to choose from in future update & that would be really nice Not sure why others complain, we have the same iPhones how can it work on mine and not for others. Peps you are doing something wrongAll people with problems are clearly not running a legit apple software and/or phone is unlocked simple. We all have same iPhones, we should have the same experince unless you jailbreak or unlock blame your self not the developer
Exceptional App! By: iTunesfool - Nov 7, 2009 Version: 1.01 I have been using this app for several weeks, and have become dependent of it operating. Yesterday it stopped working. I only use it to communicate with my wife, and we were cut off for several hours. I "pinged" Gary Fung the dev and he instantly responded (great support!! Thanks, Gary) He said that the server had been down that morning, and everything was back up and working. Highly recommended, five stars. (And a sixth star for customer support!)
Great! (When It Works) By: Buzzafett - 13-Oct-2009 Version: 1.01 I want to prevail with this app as a direct wi-fi replacement to texting. When it works it is excellent with instant badge notifications. Now crashes when I start the app on my iPhone 3G after sending around 10 messages. I then have to re-install and re-boot. Message time stamp is 5 hours in front of UK time. Major bugs should have been ironed out in Beta, NOT after release. Please fix the stability issues before any more features are added. Let's hope an update is available soon. Ammendment: Waited a long time for Apple to approve the 1.01 update. Still crashes and the timestamp is still wrong. Minus another star.
Does what it says! By: Blackfish 95 - 11-Nov-2009 Version: 1.01 I've found this quite useful. Gave my ping! name to some people on Twitter before an event. Good way to connect before meet up without giving them your phone#. To those who gave 1 star review 'cause it didn't connect, try it again. You likely tried it just as it was spiking in new users and the system was overloaded. To those who say it's not exactly like BBM, well, don't blame Ping! for that. To be just like BBM it would have to be integrated by Apple. Also to the Blackberry Messenger system uses a data plan just like Ping! Contrary to what one recent reviewer claimed.
Excellent Potential By: elite-e - 30-Sep-2009 Version: 1.0 This could be the app the iPhone needs! Should have status updates and other features the competition has!! There is several faults at this stage many have been mentioned, one major one is I added a contact and made a mistake the 1st time now I can't get past the screen because it autosuggest the name with the mistake in it everytime! I had to get him to add me! Please fix! Otherwise a really good start!
Excellent By: G Smith - Dec 3, 2009 Version: 1.2 I have the 3G and my wife has the 3GS. We both love the app and use it to communicate with each other all the time. It's very fast (almost instantaneous) and works everytime.I appreciate the fact that it tells me when it has had trouble sending a message (almost always due to a bad network connection) and that it gives me the option to resend it. I also like the fact that it links to my address book.My only qualm, which is trivial at best, is that I can't choose a different notification sound and that the alert goes off a second time once I open the app to respond. That aside, it still deserves 5 stars.
