The phone features are superb and rock solid. Sound quality is slightly lower than some high-end commercial VOIP systems like Sonexis, but about on par with the Yahoo Messenger-based VOIP. iTouch to iTouch calls work perfect. Calls to Landlines work perfect. I've even used Truphone to join conference calls for work and I could hear everyone fine and they could hear me fine. Also, this is the *only* app that will display offline Yahoo Messages when you log in. Logging into Truphone automatically signs you into YM as a mobile user (and logs you out of whereever else you might have been logged in). If you've been completely offline, any YMs you've received while offline will appear within one minute. The voicemail features are solid too: you can record personal greetings, and if you're offline from Truphone you get an email notification on your iTouch's mail that you missed a call, so you can log onto Truphone and check your voice mail right away. Perfect. Get it. You won't be disappointed.

I have had this app now for about 2 months and i absolutely love it!!! I have a sister that lives in Florence, Italy and i can just sit back and enjoy my conversation with her without worrying about spending A LOT OF MONEY on the call i also call Uruguay in S America and get great rates-i like that i can check calls i've made with date, time, duration of call and charge for call as far as voice quality ocassionally i get told that i sound far away but for the most part no problems and keep in mind the app is FREE!!!! Developer-thank you job well done!!

Not sure what the other reviewers are talking about - the first gen iPod Touch doesn't support a microphone, so how could this work except on the 2nd gen?
It works great on my second gen iPod Touch (the one with the hardware volume controls on the side). I've previously used Truphone on Nokia, and called a friend also with Truphone from my iPod Touch all over wifi and all for free. Truphone, please please add dialling out to normal phone numbers and this would be a 'must have app'!!!

This app almost completely defeats the purpose of the IPhone you can make free calls to other IPod Touches with the earphones with the mic the only thing is if you want to make payments you can't use a mastercard or visa but without question this app is truly unique and best part of it it's free! You can make international calls for a cheap price and you can still call other truphone users for free anywhere in the world - in order to get more credit you will need to add your visa or master card which I only just found out

This has to be the best app ever. it works sooo good. when I called my house and it rang and it worked I was in awe. btw you don't need a headset. I use iPhone headphones for my iPod and they work fine and they were only $20. the only thing that would make it better is if you could use iTunes cards to top up your account and if you could call someone else with the truphone app without them actually having to be on it. other than that BEST APP EVER!!

Truphone works pretty well but I have a few suggestions. First, when you want to listen to voice mail you apparently need a pair of headphones with microphones but since you do not need to talk when you listen to voice mails, the voice mails should be able to just talk out of the gen. 2 iPod touch speaker. Another suggestion is that you can hear the ring of someone wanting to talk to you outside of truphone. Truphone is great and I was also wondering if you can use it with bluetooth head sets. Thank you for making this a great product!

Phone for iPod touch with very good rates. Brilliant! Sure beats an expensive iPhone plan!! (or even a payphone!!) This is the best application I have installed. Fantastic! IM works very efficiently in the upgrade. Some of these reviewers need to learn how to read before posting dimwitted reviews. (I feel sorry for the developers who have made a fine application but get reviewed by boneheads. )

I luv this ap but I hate it when people say stuff like you can't use it out of a wifi zone so I'm gobs wine about it.it's not meant to be a cell phone it's suposed to save u money it won't replace a cellphone and if you think it should then think about this truphone is free and that's the way it should stay if it replaces a cell phone they will start to charge for it and then it didn't save u money. Also ya it won't work out of a wifi zone for a reason how else will it connect to the Internet the iTouch dosn't have a 3G network but if you payed a monthly fee it should be an option

PS: Sound QUALITY is better than all the other apps I tested.
I installed it on my iPod Touch and it worked perfectly, made a free mobile voice call right away and had crystal clear sound. Will take the iPod Touch on my trip during Christmas to call back to the UK

Do not know what people have to complain about. As long as you have read the instructions and have a mic and headphones to work with the 2nd Gen iPod Touch and pretty much any sort of wifi signal you can make crystal clear, low lag calls to any number in the world, landline or mobile, for a low rate. Of course you have to pay for your time, a sip is not for making free calls off of someone else its for making calls at a highly reduced cost than with any mobile and most landline providers. I've made multiple international calls with maybe a second of lag. If everyone read the instructions you'd know how to add money, or that it will not work without the proper mic plug. By far the best Sip that I've encountered.

Truly a great app-- don't pay attention to the people who rated it down because they can't read or follow very simple instructions. To use this you need either an iPhone or 2nd gen iPod Touch. NOT a first gen Touch. You will also need an earphone/mic. I use the one you can get for the iPhone-- it works great. TruPhone to TruPhone is free. TruPhone to mobile/landline is as low as 6 cents a minute. When you set up your account they give you a 50 cent credit. Again, this is a great app. And it's free!

I used this app on my 2nd gen iPod Touch without problems. Allowed me to sign into TruPhone and Skype account, basically giving me voicemail for Skype. Now, I have updated to iPhone OS 3.0 and this app doesn't work anymore. It also doesn't work on my 3rd gen iPod Touch running iPhone OS 3.1.Know I know there is the other TruPhone app that works with OS 3.x, but it doesn't include the same integration with Skype (Skype IM only, no call receiving). Please fix this or at least announce whether you plan to add the Skype integration again.

This app works great on iPod touch 2g but it needs an update. 1. When someone calls me via Skype I can answer the call but I can't hear the person who called me. When I make the call, however, everything works great. 2. For MSN messenger, it needs an update that places the persons' emails instead or under the nickname. Sometimes I don't know who it is because of their weird and constantly changing nickname. Will give 5 stars when this update is available!

For all those complaining, the Ipod touch CAN do VOIP but it isn't really designed to beyond having a microphone capability and so my guess is Apple didn't spend much time refining call quality for the Ipod touch. ALL VOIP apps I have used have the same exact issues with static, call quality, and dropped calls. This includes Fring, Nimbuzz, Skype app, and Truphone. I have used all of them. They vary in appearance and somewhat in functionality but they are all handicapped by the limits of the ipod's hardware and the limits of the SDK apple provides. In fact almost all the VOIP programs look pretty similar in layout. Truphone has clearly taken pains to improve the user interface compared to its rivals and it shows. Google talk voice functionality? Genius!!!! I don't think the other apps offer that to date. You need a FAST internet connection (faster than 3g) to make VOIP work on the touch in any semi-reliable form. I WISH my verizon cell phone had as easy a setup of voicemail settings as Truphone. A big flaw with Truphone is the lack of native SkypeOut dialing that other apps HAVE. You cannot dial skypeout from the main menu. For skype functionality, the skype app pwns Truphone. Hopefully with O.S. 3.0 Truphone will get better. Its a great start for an App though; VOIP just has a long way to go in general on the Ipod touch because Apple is not going to support it for obvious reasons with its own hardware unless it can profit from it.

Truephone Vers 1.2 comes with .50cents free, so you can load the app and test it without paying a dime. If you have an 1/8"male to male RCA video cord(red/white/yellow), an 1/8 " headset/mic (mono cell phone style), and an RCA female stereo(red&white) to female 1/8" jack adapter from Radio Shack($5) you can make a iPhone/iPodTouch headset. Just plug 1/8" video cord into the iTouch, Plug the Red and Yellow RCA's into the adapter( do nothing with the white RCA) and regular 1/8" MonoSpeaker/Mic(headset) into it. You may have to turn it off then on so the itouch recognizes it but it will work. You can also test this with the Midomi and VoiceNotes apps as well . I called my own cell phone and a land line and it works great. I'm sure High Speed WiFI is best. For the USA probably not worth it, but on vacation calling from Europe back to the USA at .05cents a minute or $5.00 bucks for 100 minutes totally worth it. Great app. The only thing they need to explain is how to input country codes.
