Description:

Twinkle is the first and most famous social networking application for the iPhone and iPod touch. Hundreds of thousands of people have sent more than 30m messages on the application since it's launch. Friends have been reunited, new friendships have been formed and there have even been relationships started over Twinkle. Available since the first day of the appstore, this app is a must have for your device. Discover interesting people near you and around the world. Connect and send messages and pictures to new and old friends.
Twinkle works as its own social network, but users can also connect to Facebook and Twitter and use Twinkle as a super-location aware client for reading/setting Facebook status/reading and tweeting Twitter status. We think it is the fastest and most efficient way to know what your friends and family are up to and to tell them what you are doing.
Features:
- Chat with people nearby by searching for messages posted in a radius around you (you can search everything from 1 mile to the world)
- Broadcast what you're up to and choose to send your status to Tapulous, Twitter and Facebook networks with one push of a button
- Attach pictures to your tweets or Facebook statuses
- Full-featured Twitter and Facebook support
What the media has been saying about Twinkle:
- "One of my favorites is Twinkle, a Twitter widget that lets you see posts from users in your area, even if you don't subscribe to their feeds. Twinkle reminded me of what a great geoapp can do: take an existing service and make it more practical by adding location data." Wired
- "Twinkle’s best trait is its location awareness. When you post to Twinkle, other Twinkle users can see what city you’re tweeting from. And a tap on the Nearby button lets you see tweets from Twinkle users near you, which is pretty cool." PC City
- "if you're in a Twitter-rich city, drilling down to 1- to 5-mile radius around you will let you know all sorts of things going on in your area as they're happening." CNET
Testimonials:
- "Thanks to Twinkle I met up with a guy for a coffee at LAX last week while waiting for a plane" - JenA
- "The BEST Twitter app for iPhone" - SubJuiced
- "I feel a lot closer to my neighbours, to the pulse of my community" - KyleMac
- "Can't believe it is free. Get it right now!" -Kay11
- "One of the top hits for the iPhone. Rock on Tapulous" - Jammed
- "Keeps gettin' better. Congrats Tapulous." Tyler

Great! Twitter wirks fine nearby pings perfect(whlhen I use everywhere) excpt I can't be located(I live in one of "those" place so when I went on vacation it got that city and it won't change) overall 4/5 tapulous needs to fix the photo glitch but that's all I can complain about so till that's fixed 4/5 but don't hesitate works great. Only one problem but unless your crazy about posting pics is minor. Add:miithewii_hack_ldr

great app...AND location DOES work on iPod....and a suggestion...sort of..  rating of Twinkle

if you're on a wifi connection with iPod touch, you can ping your wifi and it will locate you just like the built in maps app....anyway i would like to see this thing use push (if it isn't already, I haven't gotten a new tweet since install) and put up a new message indicator on the home screen for new tweets and messages....like on the mail app....idk if it's already doing that...if not, I'd love it..if it is, awesome job, near perfect app!!!!
This app is the best one i have found for twitter (and ive tried all three..:D)...it hasnt crashed on me yet (twittelator crashed sometimes and the supposedly "crash-free" twitterific crashed almost every time i tried to use it...) GREAT JOB!!

Messages, Messages, Messages...  rating of Twinkle

Been using this app for a week and I love it. Why? Well, when I use other twitter clients (and twitter itself), I can only send direct messages to people that follow me or who I'm following. Where is the fun in that? This app truly opens the doors to the online social scene. If you are exclusive and want messages only between friends and contacts, use another client. If you like receiving messages from random people, use Twinkle. It's like a mobile chatroom. Good stuff...

This App is really nice. You can update your twitter and facebook status at once, or you can just update your tapulous (ping) status. But it's a little confusing because you have both followers from tapulous along with twitter mixed in together. You'll likely see people you're following on twitter showing up under the people you're following in tapulous (tap tap revenge) that you never knew were TTR users.
Now the thing I don't like is that they put the @replys at the buttom of your twitter timeline. It took me forever to figure out where they were and you have to scroll all the way to the bottom each time to view them. They really should place them in a tab next to messages!

Best app hands-down on the AppStore  rating of Twinkle

The guys at Tapulous know how to create polished and unique applications! Twinkle takes Twitter and add locational awareness to it. You can check out people nearby and discover people on the other side of the world. People on the network tend to be pretty decent and friendly, not the womanizers that you see on other apps. I have found old friends and even new Twitter followers just by checking for posts within 2 miles of my house. Yesterday a bunch of us were using Twinkle to locationally tweet during a Techcrunch conference. I even got my mum on Twinkle because it doesn't even require a Twitter account to get started. Congratulations and I cant wait until the 1.1 comes out.

Now supports Facebook updates  rating of Twinkle

Hello, I work at the company that builds Twinkle. Here's what's new in 1.5:
- The ability to post and view updates from Twitter, Facebook and Twinkle, all in one place
- A number of bug fixes and UI tweaks
We will be turning on advertising in the coming weeks after an adfree premium version is out. We are also experimenting with ways to keep the conversation in the Nearby tab cleaner without censoring people.

Great Twitter App! ...and so much more.  rating of Twinkle
By: TheMBC14 - Jul 27, 2008
Version: 1.0
There's one reason why other apps are crashing and burning when they're trying to locate friends near you: you have to register to a completely different social network. Why would people do that nowadays? Most people have registered where they want and have stayed there. Done. Well, Twinkly knows that and uses location-based services to show you other Tweets with a 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, and 1000 mile radius! And of course there's an option to show everyone's tweets from Twinkle.
Yes, you do have to "register" on the Tapulous network, but that's how your pictures are stored and that's how some people can use the service without needing to be a Twitter user. If you visit Tapulous.com you'll know they want to add many more wanted features and that what people are requesting they're trying to do...as well with combining more social networks with the app.
Thanks, Twinkle! This is a great app! I've abandoned Twitterlator, Twitterific, and Twittervision because this is such a great app, always has been. Get it, you won't regret it ;)

OMG OMG!!  rating of Twinkle

Wow, after a long hiatus, Tapulous finally decides to update their Twinkle application changing it from one of those niche Twitter applications to a fully dedicated social clusterf-ck! It is amazing to have your Tapulous profile, your Twitter profile, AND your Facebook profile all nice and neat in their separated columns. Also, seeing your Twinkle friends are easy to read and identify in this update. Lastly, the application itself loads and runs faster with no crashes experienced yet. Overall, this is a much needed update for Twinkle from the Tapulous team, GOOD JOB!!

I just downloaded the update today. Not too shabby. Takes a little getting used to the update though. One thing that I like is that you can see how many people are following you, but you cant see who they are. Its also ad supported now, which may irritate some users who are used to the 1.4 no ad system. I personally dont mind it. Also one thing I like about the new update is that you can now turn off the map, which annoyed many users. It also separates the Tapulous network from Facebook, and Twitter, which is really nice. I also saw that profanity is now censored in the nearby tab, which many people will eventually notice. Overall I think this is a much needed update, although there may be a few things that may need to be worked out in the future, as I continue to use the application. Good job Tapulous

Twinkle just more stable.  rating of Twinkle
By: wurdNinja - Feb 2, 2009
Version: 1.4
For their 1.0 release, Twinkle offers amazing app stability. I don't think there has been any other free app that has not crashed once on my phone. Apart from server ridiculousness on both sides at first (now an expectation from Twitter), and slight initial confusion about my new Tapulous account vs. my existing Twitter account (really only confusing due to server-related issues), its interface has allowed me to more easily discover friends on Twitter in my area, as well as being simpler to use. I've replaced Twitteriffic with this app and will likely not go back. It is true both have different features the other lacks, but I have faith that the stability of Twinkle speaks more to tapulous' ability to quickly add new features, whereas Twitteriffic has to overcome both constant crashing issues as well as feature enhancement, which may only be available on their "pay for" version. It's one thing to charge for the ability to change skins (with only one option for change) but on top of it, I have to have ads tweeted in between my friends. Not so with Twinkle, which has a pretty, yet unobtrusive skin. It is easy to view conversations of people in my area, other twinklers will receive my message even if twitter is down (and I just used the same info as I did for Twitter to create a tapulous account, so I'm not really sure of the objection- I don't even need to remember a password). It makes sense to me that they don't want to rely entirely on Twitter all the time for server support; Twitter still is working on supporting its growing user base. Since they're free you xaof course try out both and see which you like more. I bet you 10-to-1 that you'll find yourself turning to Twinkle more and more often.

This is my favorite app on the iPhone. I'm always on it, and it's usually the cause of me finding myself having to charge my phone.. I enjoy it, and always have. It may take a little time to figure out at first, but so do all apps! There's some people that are just STUPID on it, but that's why there's a wonderful, useful BLOCK button! A few bugs lately, but I'm sure that'll be fixed soon.. Right?! 

My favourite Twitter app  rating of Twinkle
By: SamiPZR - 23-Apr-2009
Version: 1.4
Even though Twitter is only half of Twinkle, I still find this better than most of the other apps. The vast majority of the time it works flawlessly, and the interface is beautiful. The ability to view pictures and links within the app is great, as is the button to open in Safari if preferred.
Twinkle's own network is a nice feature, it's just a shame about some of the people posting on it! Having said that I've had a few nice replies from people responding to my Tweets (which also get posted as Twinkle Pings) and it's good to see who's talking about what in your surrounding area.
Is there anything I don't like? Well, personally I find it a little confusing as to what extent the networks overlap. If I post a tweet/ping, and a fellow Twinkler and Twitter friend replies, which network is that from? And also I'd like the option to disable the world map which activates in landscape mode. It's a nice feature but I don't use it.
Overall, highly recommended, especially if you've got some intelligent conversation to add to the Twinkle world!

UPDATE: It WAS a great Twitter app, now it's a Tap app... AND it's back!  rating of Twinkle
By: Joshua James - Jul 22, 2008
Version: 1.0
UPDATE: The devs posted on their GetSatisfaction page that they will be changing it so the Twitter ID / Avatar show up instead of the custom Tapulous profiles. It's back to being an excellent Twitter app :]
---
When I first started using this it was a great application for updating Twitter. The interface was great, the nearby feature was very cool, and it was just a bit nicer to use than Twitteriffic. However, I found it odd you had to use a Tapulous ID to start the program up. No problem I thought, however recently instead of showing my updates with my Twitter ID / photo it now shows them with the Tapulous ID and photo.
Essentially they are layering their own social service over the Twitter service in hopes of expanding out to other messaging systems. This is great and all but the whole reason I downloaded this Twitter app was to interface with my Twitter account. Now it's become an app to interface with my Tapulous account which in turn interfaces with Twitter...
I hope they decide to rectify this at some point because this could be a fantastic Twitter application.

Bug will get fixed (not their fault)  rating of Twinkle
By: Shriekmaw - Jul 21, 2008
Version: 1.0
If anyone has been to the dev site they would know that this crashing problem is actually due to some "smart" person (smart being used loosely here) has gone out and made some kind of avatar that is causing this app to crash! Anyone who has this avatar and has posted on the board where you can see it will cause your app to crash. Taptulous is working on a fix and actually already has one but Apple takes a week to post any updates. The only people to blame for this is Apple (for taking too long for updates) and ourselves!

Reason why it is buggy  rating of Twinkle
By: Zeroe - Aug 14, 2009
Version: 1.5
This app is great. Good way to meet new people. And to answer everyones question as to why it's so buggy is because how it's designed. This of course is all assumption and how I tested it. I'm going to assume twinkle was beta tested to work on nearby users, set to 5 to 25 miles. But everyone sets it to everywhere. The whole point is to meet people in your area and watnot. Try a setting closer to your area like 25 miles and you'll notice a great improvement in the stability of the app. No more crashes n stuff. Mainly cuz it has to load a lot lessMessages rather than a huge amount when it's set to everywhere. Let's hope twinkes next update fixes the stability for when it's set to everywhere. In the mean time I suggest setting it to 50 or try and test 100 miles. Enjoy ^_^
