One thing that I've always wanted on the iPhone is a BBM-like feature. I didn't think it could be possible until now. Sure Ping! is like that, but this app simply blows Ping! out of the water. Ping is too simplistic with not enough features that make it BBM like. Now all you blackberry users can come to the iPhone side and be rest assured you'll have a BBM counterpart =) This app detects when your contacts have WhatsApp and automatically adds them. You can also see when your friend is responding because an italic "typing" will show up under your friends name. Not only can you talk to all iPhone and ipod touch users, whatsapp is currently being ported to blackberry devices so now all users can communicate. This will be one massive network of connected smartphone users chatting away at dinner with the sound of clinking forks and knives only.This app is epic so pick it up while it's free =) All those rumors about spam is untrue. That's just the developer of Ping! talking shiet about this app. There's a blog post from the whatsapp developer responding to the malicious remarks by mr fung. Lol. GO GET THIS APP TODAY!!

If you are starting to resent the fact that Blackberry has their own Blackberry Messenger, then this app is for you. Now, even iPhone has their own instant messenger. Works great even though I've got the first released version (21/09/09)! But of course, they will continue to work on improving it.
Cross my fingers and hoping that the development team will be able to link iPhone users to BB users with this app. Now I LOVE my iPhone.

Now instead they are telling me to download ping and use that instead as they don't want to pay for an app that they can get another version of for free :-(
Shame as this is better than ping but looks like we'll be using ping instead. Why can't apple put an app like this in with the next OS update, ipm? like blackberry's bbm......

This application comes to fill a whole in the platform, providing us iPhone users with a wonderful way to communicate with each others, with no hassle, no cost, no mess. This is definitely a killer. What makes it even better, is how clean the interface is: A breeze to setup, and unimaginably easy to use. Guys, you scored a million points.
As I said, this is by far, the very best messaging application for our beloved iPhones, if you're still missing it, you must get it!

Been using this for a few days and also have installed Ping. I have to say people's concerns about phone numbers suprises me - it's exactly the same principle as people having your number to SMS you? As for the notifications not coming through all the time, this is explained on their website only one push per person every 2-3 minutes so not to spam you, they are releasing a new version in a couple of days making this better and landscape mode etc. Be patient, this app is 10 times the app Ping is...

I think user name "Mrwas" hit the nail on the head. Future Enhancement Requests:• BLOCK feature• message received notification feature• ability to send pics• ++ broadcast is nice but group chat is better:-)Put that in there and WOW! Apple's (&BB) calling LOL!Other that which I'm sure is forthcoming?! The app is GREAT! I've had it for a month now and no complaints. I was wondering when all the Pingers would migrate over. DISCLAIMER: I too was once excited about Ping (September).........until my msgs stopped going. Get Whatsapp while it's free! Heck, get it when it's $0.99. Still worth it! What more can I say?!

Good points: Being able to set your status & give it an expiration time then default to another status is pure genius! Syncing status with Facebook is cool. Having all your friends that use the service auto populate in your "Favorites" category makes it easy to chat buddies. Custom Wallpaper. Being able to Email, Chat or Call a contact from the favorites panel is awesome! Last but not least, the ability to email a chat history is very cool!
I wish it had the ability for users to change chat sounds. This is the only negative I have to say about the current version, the text inupt area is just one long horizontal line, it should auto expand vertically just like the native iPhone text app. I heard the next version is going to be sweet, I hope it comes fast. Get it while it is free!!

This is a great app with the most wonderful and most responsive developers. Any questions you have they are easily accessible by e-mail or Twitter (WhatsAppInc). I'm now apart of the Beta group for BBM to iPhone interconnectivity and let me tell you, this app is on it's way to epic greatness. So far in this version, we're able to get push messaging notification, time stamps of sent and received messages, I can see when other people are typing, and I can send messages internationally. There's other great functionalities like Status updates as well. Buy and try this amazing app. I promise you won't be let down!

This is a great app...its not exactly like BBM, buts its damn close. There are a couple things that the devs should or could do different to make this a better app.1) Change the nam of the app. WhatsApp is not catchy or easy. Change it iPhone Messenger or IPM or something simple & catchy.2) Change how to add contacts. Adding via number is not good for privacy concerns plus u might as well use SMS/MMS. Instead I would suggest a more unique identifier like the last 5 digits of an iPhones serial number or the last 7 digits of the IMEI number. You could even start a service that assigns pin numbers for ppl to share so they dont have to share their phone number. Now that I think about it thats probably the best option.3) Add the abillity to share photos thru the messenger...4) Group chat.Add those things & make those changes and I bet you this will be the #1 downloaded app in the store!!!

WhatsApp I hope you realize this is a dealbreaker for people looking to get rid of their blackberry. What keeps most people hangin onto their berry?! That's right! BBM! I work for a cellular company as salesman the only apprehension consumers have about going from berry to iPhone is the fact they will lose BBM. Join up with Apple and make a WhatsApp blackberry app to enable berry to iPhone an iPhone to berry instant messaging! Make this back to 99c and you guys will be laughing! See you in Hawaii!

This is by far the best app for the iphone. When I switched from the blackberry, I was sad that I no longer had bbm. WhatsApp has solved that problem--plus the fact that they are developing a blackberry version makes it that much better. Whatsapp DOES NOT steal your phone numbers or spam you. I am not sure what those people are talking about, but they are lying. Whatapps has an amazing support team--if you have a question, concern or suggestion they are quick to get back to you. I recommend this app to everyone.

Not just the app, but the people behind it. I'm using this app on my iPhone and also beta-testing the Blackberry application, and chatting between the two platforms is working just fine, so soon enough, you'll be able to cross-chat with Blackberry users.
The guys who developed this app really take the time to support the app. Whenever I've had a question, they get back to me in a very timely manner.
Now comparing to other apps out there. This is the only one of its kind. It's great to be able to just run the app and have everyone in your address book also using the app, appear on your messaging list. No need to add or remember extra ID's or requesting to add or be added. It just works automatically. Unlike a lot of PING! users, who cry about the fact they need to share cell numbers to use Whatsapp, I don't have the need to give out my ID to chat with strangers, so whoever has my cell number is obviously allowed to reach me on it via text, call or however they prefer. Who the hell wants their cell to be going off all day getting messages from random people? Seriously, get a life!
Get it now while it's free and when it's not anymore -- ALSO GET IT. It's worth every cent. More features are coming soon and the ability to cross communicate with Blackberry is here (Beta Testers) and almost there for everyone!

this app does exactly what it does..those who are giving it low ratings arent understanding the concept of this app..it is meant to be the equivalent of blackberry messenger..except this messenger allows you to do communicate solely between blackberry and iphone users
whatsapp looks extremely promising as the developer has said "group chat" will be available in the next update..this will differentiate this app from anything else thats out there right now

WhatsApp is one of the best app's for iPhone, giving iPhone users no reason whatsoever to consider a Blackberry again. Its easy to use and comes in very useful, not to mention cuts your text costs. I would recommend it to anyone with an iPhone, as it is a great way to communicate. The only improvements I could suggest: being able to set a separate notification tone (as currently you don't know whether you are receiving a text or a WhatsApp). But thats a pretty minor negative for such an indredible app. Thanks!

Found this on macrumors.com and now all of my family has it and were texting for free. You saved us at least 20 a month. Don't forget to change your contacts to be Mobile instead of iPhone as it won't pick the contact info up. Landscape keyboard would be nice and if you could move the send button to somewhere else because I hit it by accident too much. 5 stars for me and my fam!!! 

I've been an iphone user ever since 3g, about a year and a half now, downloaded numerous apps, some very awesome and some deleted after few uses. And this is the first time I've decided to write a review for a app.
This app really works in a great way. especially for me cuz I live outside of the states right now, and this app allows me too SMS my friend and family in the U.S who r using iphones, this is so awesome. thanks for creating this app!!

This is the app I've been looking for. My friend and I both have iPhones and text occasionally, but we've been looking for something free that we can text a lot more with. Needless to say this is the best one out there. It has push notifications and is FREE. Although I would not mind paying for this application.
Like others have said, this is BlackBerry Messenger for the iPhone. Ever wish you could text your iPhone buddies for free? Now you can.
