Create a message by drawing on your touchpad with your finger -- Zephyr will play the wind as you write.
Draw with your choice of shimmering snowflakes, vibrant red hearts, lucky green clovers or shining stars!
Send your message around the world with a single tap. Where will it land?
If someone likes it, they can forward it on by selecting the heart icon. If they don't like it, well, that's it for your message.
How far will your message go? How many people will see it, touch it, hear it? You know, like a message in a bottle.
You can reply to a message you receive from distant lands. If you want to reveal your identity, you can name your Zephyr. You can also see where your own messages have gone, the world's top messages or your own favorites.
Visit http://www.smule.com/ for a video tutorial and information on Zephyr.
We've discovered an issue with iPhone 3.0 Beta 5 with audio playback and are working on an update to Zephyr to address this.

Super fun and addictive!  rating of Zephyr
By: Jemeriquay - Jan 11, 2009
Version: 1.1
I love this app! It's fun to send your creations around the world and with the new update your able to see where they go!! I've had this a few days now and have already spent quite a bit of time drawing and watching others creations. Though, I do wish there were other tools to draw and write with. It would be cool, since it's the wind, that you could write with blown leaves, dust, grass, or flower petals.

First off let me be the first to review this application and give it 5 stars, I'm a big Smule fan and they have came out with yet another great product. If you take it into consideration it's not easy to program applications for the iphone. I just bought this application just now so I could write a review I just want to give my personal thanks to smule for providing us with such wonderful products and I am sure they are going to have more products to come and I will continue to help them and play with there products. Once again thanks Smule keep up the great work

blowing in the wind == new take on "social"  rating of Zephyr
By: abandon$hip - Dec 29, 2008
Version: 1.0
After Sonic Lighter and Ocarina, I've come to deeply appreciate what Smule is doing - uh whatever that is (I can't put my finger on it, but it's incredibly refreshing). Zephyr is quite different from a lighter, a fire cracker, an ocarina, and yet it is somehow consistent. Zephyr basically captures and sonifies your gestures as you create an image, a greeting, a slogan, an equation, a symbol, and shares it with the world, anonymously. What Smule is demonstrating once again is that you don't need to know "who" in order to be "social" and compelling! In the globe view (a trademark Smule feature by now) I am seeing peace signs, equations, logos, greetings, and drawings as they travel around the world, literally. There is something magical about all this...

Best Smule App  rating of Zephyr
By: Scubasteve36 - Feb 21, 2009
Version: 1.2
This app is great and smules best so far. I would like to know if ppl respond to my drawings or hello's! You can see a reply but is it for you, most likely not! But sending drawings and msgs around the world is a pretty dam cool idea! Hopefully in future updates they will improve a few of the features. There's plenty of ppl chatting when I'm playing around on it, never know who gets my random msgs though!

Smule's new instrument: the wind!  rating of Zephyr
By: Cache County - Feb 14, 2009
Version: 1.2
I've been loving my Ocarina for the past month. I'm actually getting good. I was very curious what Smule would ship next. I was expecting a flute or recorder or maybe even a trumpet, all with the cool world-networking features of the ocarina. But no, instead we get Zephyr, the wind. Never saw that one coming. Awesome.
1.2 update graphics are really nice. And I like the new reply feature (blue comet?).

Sweet  rating of Zephyr
By: the other oracle - Feb 7, 2009
Version: 1.1
I've been testing out Zephyr for the past few days. What a completely novel idea -- a breath of fresh air. I can sit back and watch ribbons of messages literally traverse the globe, hearing and seeing what each person drew on my little iPhone touchscreen. It appears my own messages have already been heard by 200 souls around the planet. Go figure!
I've noticed the other smule applications always pack a lot into the updates. Sonic Lighter gave us that torch flame and phone-to-phone ignitions. Ocarina update let me literally send songs to friends over email. I think Zephyr has potential. I want to be able to literally track my own messages. And if I see something extremely cool, say coming in from France, I want to be able to 'reply'. Five stars once I see this update.
Adding a star given 1.1 update. I can reply and track messages now. The blue comet for replies is awesome.

Not facebook  rating of Zephyr
By: filina fontez - Feb 1, 2009
Version: 1.2
I use facebook a lot to keep up with my friends. This application seems to be the exact opposite. Anonymous messages with random people around the world.
Shouldn't this actually be a game? A contest to see whose message goes the farthest? It would be even better if you could rate the message, versus just loving them or skipping them.
Oh, I finally figured it out. The blue meteor is a reply. Smule, how about a little help on the UI? Took me a day. But now I really like this.

More fun and addictive than ever!  rating of Zephyr
By: Cotteyphile - Jan 29, 2009
Version: 1.2
Another great update for Zephyr! I love the new painting designs, and highlighting where the message has been was a great idea!
They even implemented my suggestion of waiting a few seconds before going to the next message, so you have time to 'heart' it.
The replies can be a bit confusing, though, because you can't tell what message people are responding to (or if it was a response to your message at all, instead of a forwarded reply message).
Still, this app is quite addictive, and the sounds are mesmerizing!
Now if only you could combine different paint tools in the same message...

Joy To The World  rating of Zephyr
By: Kihtra - Jan 26, 2009

This little app is something truely unique. It's simple and sweet, and shows the world that we're all connected somehow. I love sending out messages and recieving ones from all over the globe - it's a wonderful feeling.
It's a wonderful app for the price of only a candybar. Connecte with the world around you, and share a smile.
One thing I would like to see is what people are replying too, because when you send out a lot of messages it can be hard to keep track of what.

This app is so cool! I'm glad I got it! What a neat way for people to connect! Big BIG kudos to Smule!!!! And the new update made of even more fun! Now if I could just figure out what it means when the senders name is in blue...... Hahaha! Oh! And I totally LOVE that the messages go out randomly! This is one of the coolest ideas I've seen in a long time! I hope more contries join soon! But I guess that has more to do with the cost of the equipment than the app itself. :) And by the way, I'm not an employee or a child. and I'm deffinately NOT easily amused!!!!! ;)

Better than any game on the iPhone  rating of Zephyr
By: a little slower now - Jan 24, 2009

I've been sitting here watching dozens of messages go by over the past few hours. Some messages are not great. Other messages are extremely creative. I love it. Too much fun. I've clicked on the info box to see how many of my messages have been received/loved. I'm up to 4424 for messages received. I can see the top messages has now circled the globe 63 times. Whoever thought of such an application anyway?

So cool! (plus my suggestions to make it even cooler)  rating of Zephyr
By: papagena1 - Jan 23, 2009
Version: 1.2
I love this app. There is something about the blowing snowflakes and the sound of the wind that makes people all over the world want to send warm, peaceful messages to each other. It's awesome seeing my messages that have gone to other continents! Here are my suggestions to make it even better: 1. Make it clearer whether the button that looks like >> is used to forward a message you like to others, or to skip the message you're viewing. 2. Make it possible to delete your own messages. I have some where I was just practicing, and I don't want to see them any more every time I look through "my messages". 3. I don't understand how my messages have been sent 35 times but only "loved" 5 times. Is there a way that others are re-sending my messages without loving them? It's also confusing because when I look at "my messages" Zephyr shows me a map of their progress through the world, and my messages have made many more than five stops. 4. There should be a way to delete the last stroke without using the two-finger thing, so you can get rid of a mistake without getting rid of other stuff that you want to keep. 5. It would be cool if you could draw with more than one of the tools (snowflakes, clover) in one message. 6. There should be some kind of rating system (other than "top messages") so I can see the really cool ones that people have done without wading through all the ones that say "hi." (Some of the "top messages" which have been circulated widely are really boring. I want to see the awesome ones done by artists.) 7. There should be a clearer distinction between when you are really "clearing" the message and starting over, vs. when it will show more than one screen when you send it. I tried to erase one and start over, but when I sent it, it showed the first draft, the erasing, and the second draft. 8. How do you tell when someone's message is "over"? Sometimes I want to forward them before they end, but I accidentally hit forward too soon, and it stops it in the middle. Those are my suggestions - fantastic app!

Great little app  rating of Zephyr
By: *ozzie* - 13-Jul-2009

I love this app it's very addictive when you are waiting for someone to reply. I've had lots of replies! Needs tweaking though like being able to send reply to specific person. Needs more explanation as to what happens to your messages. I don't understand why some of my messages come back to me with my name highlighted in blue? I thought this was meant to be someone else replying in blue? Great app though and def next generation stuff.

A beautiful relaxing experience worth having around for the price  rating of Zephyr
By: asrh - Sep 4, 2009
Version: 1.2.1
Personal experience and uses:
I really enjoy zephyr. It is a fun app to play with when you have some free time and is a great thing to pull out and show people who have never seen it. Its what I usually bring up for people who do not have iphones when they ask to play with mine. My boyfriend also has it and uses it late at night when he's lying in bed and can't sleep because its something to do that is relaxing and it gives him something to do that he won't get so engrossed in that he will have a hard time sleeping.
About the game: The game is sort of like finger painting on a global scale. The user draws an image on the screen and it is displayed using particles of a specific shape( stars, snowflakes, hearts, and clovers). The user's gestures are accompanied by musical sounds associated with the position on the screen that you touch so each drawing has its own auditory accompaniment. This is my favorite smule app because finger painting is something any one can do and is more approachable to non musically inclined people than some of their other apps. However I have seen people treat it less like a drawing app and more like an instrument putting dots on the screen to replicate a song. One of the most interesting element about the game is that once you draw something you can send it off to a random person on the globe and they can respond with their own drawing. You can also choose just to view what other people are drawing. People often create interesting and unique drawings, however you do see several repeating images such as hearts, faces, rabbits and writing. People also often write messages. It i interesting to connect with a random person on a global scale though these visuals.
visual experience: The app has very simplistic but good visuals to it. I would like to have seen more options for what you use to draw with. The dark global back ground and the music do effectively create a sense of connecting on a cosmic scale with other points of light on the glob and gives you that warm fuzzy feeling.
Difficulty: This app is easy to use but there is an experience scale to it. The more one uses the app the more accustomed they become to creating intricate detailed drawings. In fact I was surprised how fine of detail the app captures when you get used to moving very subtlety. I was also surprised to find that there is pressure/ speed sensitivity allowing the user to create very thin and very thick lines.
Interface: simple to use, well displayed
Repay value/ frequency: In the short term i got a few hours of enjoyment out of it before i moved on. However, this is an app i see my self using a couple times a month late at night when I'm bored. Users who want to encourage the development of interesting higher quality apps on the i phone should support this product and buy it.
Other apps users who like this might enjoy: zen bound, ocarina

Send pics across the globe  rating of Zephyr
By: Aquillyne - 29-Dec-2008

Great app. Lovely user interface and graphic/sound effects. Some features missing such as being able to preview a message before you send it, and being able to see the paths of your own messages across the earth, but hopefully this will be added in a future update (I particularly want to know the fate of my own messages!). Despite this, the app works beautifully and connects you to the world via cute picture messages.

Zbest Fun  rating of Zephyr
By: TonyInDallas - Jan 28, 2009
Version: 1.2
I have returned to this app plenty of times and enjoyed it. The new features they recently rolled out breath new life into the app. I especially like being able to see how many times my own drawings have been viewed and "loved" as well as being able to filter the types of drawings it "plays" for me.
Things I'd like to see in future updates:
- shake the iPhone to skip to the next drawing (instead of having to press the skip "button" on the right)
- be able to repeat the drawing you just saw a moment ago
- be able to send a reply to the artist of the drawing you're watching (or just watched)
- be able to mix brush types in the same drawing
- be able to send the drawing animation via email to non-Zephyr users as some sort of flash file.
- be able to view drawing animations on the web with a larger viewing area
- ban users who submit obscene drawings from submitting new ones and purge all of their past submissions as a precaution
- ability to mute the sound. Even when I turn off the ringer, I still hear the music. Even when I turn off the screen, there's still music because the app keeps running. =(
Overall, a very amusing and sometimes touchingly beautiful app. The free expression element and global sharing are novel and conducive to encouraging connectedness. Keep apps like this coming! Thanks for all the work you poured into it!

Send your message to the wind...  rating of Zephyr
By: Feynix7 - Jan 27, 2009
Version: 1.2
Zephyr is a neat little app. Basically, you draw a little picture (with the update, you can draw in Stars, Hearts, and Clovers, along with the original Snow) and hit "Send," and from there, it gets sent off to another iPhone/iTouch around the globe. Upon recieving a wind message using the Globe view, you can Heart it, whereas it will continue on it's journey, leave it alone, or reply to its creator. This app has a lot of potential. There are only a few minor quirks I've found using this app. First, some of the messages I've recieved take a while to draw out, but I guess that's up to whoever drew it. Secondly, direct messages (blue messages you recieve when someone comments on one of your creations) don't show what drawing they came from. Lastly, I wish there was more room to draw, but that's obviously just a physical limitation. Gameplay: 9/10 Graphics: 8/10 Music: N/A Overall: 8/10
